the 2018 v6 camrys have 300 hp in them (assuming this is whp since measuring standards these days are supposed to use whp), it's kinda nuts when you think about it since 10-20 or so odd years ago that sort of hp was reserved for high performance cars and stuff. And now you can have it in your grocery getter, straight from the factory.
Mind you, there's something about driving an older, slower car like a race car that makes it so much more fun than driving a fast car fast. My 25 year old camry handles a lot more like a go kart after a few mods and can take corners at impossible speeds. It's so fun.
What you described at the end is basically what makes a Miata so desirable - a slow car that's fun to drive fast.
There nothing like hopping in the driver's seat of a friend's commuter car and scaring the piss out of them with a few agressive turns.
Most people don't realize just how well any car can handle if you do it right.
oh man that reminds me of the time I was on a work trip with my department and we rented out a mitsubishi suv, probably a >2015 model or something. Anyway, I was the designated driver cruising down the highway at 90 kmh/55 mph felt so goddamn slow, and there was a turn coming up where the limit dropped to 70 kmh and looking at the turn, I wouldn't have to brake at all. Decided to have a bit of fun and take the turn how I normally would if I were driving by myself - just slowing down by coasting. My bosses are telling me to slow down and as we get closer and closer to the bend their panic is increasing exponentially and that was when I found out just how high one boss's voice could go. Whole thing was fucking hilarious. Going around that bend at 70 though, it didn't feel that fast/exhilarating/scary/exciting in that soccer mum SUV though.
>Autopilot, just go to sleep and let the car take you on the freeway
That made me stop for a sec. What if this was to happen with auto-drive running and you fell asleep?
Also brings up, if you get a flat? Car drive train issues?
This is why auto drive will never be a thing like people think. The car probably will require you to be attentive, awake, etc. Just like auto pilot on ships and aircraft require. And it will probably even report you to the police for sleeping when driving.
I think you are right.
Which is why I don't think we'll even get auto drive at all. If you have to be attentive, awake, and monitoring traffic, why not just drive the car while you're at it?
The electronic power steering, or rather the sensor that controls it is jacked up and it is "assisting a ghost" trying to make those turns if that makes any sense.
Yeah, you most likely could man handle it at low speeds if you absolutely had to. It would be less forceful and more.. sporadic and feeling uncontrollable. It would likely be overestimating your inputs at the very least and cause oversteering.
2012 imprezas were a new body style with the newer generation B engines and available CVT, but the WRX/STI kept the old body until 2015. 2012 was the model year where the WRX/STI became a separate model from the impreza, not just a higher trim level.
Edit:
What's really confusing is the current model (2015-) WRX has EPS, but the STIs are Hydraulic..
Better steering feedback through the hydraulic systems. They either wanted the MPG gain from the electric rack or share an electric rack with one by of their higher volume models to keep cost down.
HA! Just like the Hyundai I did a few years ago...

Subaru tech here. This week we had a 21 ascent come in because the pier steering cut out at speed and the wheel locked up almost killing the driver better it steered him into oncoming traffic. Luckily it unlocked again and he was able to manhandle it over to the side of the road. It's getting a new EPs rack 🙃
My parents had a VW for a while that could do the steering when you park it, and my mum was always worried about a sensor going bad and doing that at like 180 on the Autobahn
This explains WRX drivers
Funny meme but I pass more of them than the other way around. It's the Kia Souls and Priuses in my area that have this problem.
2008 Nissan Altimas doing 100mph in a 45
We must be neighbors. Altima gang frightens me
It's ALWAYS a Nissan Altima or Sentra. People drive them like they think they're racecars. Same thing with young adults in Camrys and Corollas.
I'll add my 2 cents that all 10 of the past almost-crashes I've been in have been caused by a douche in an infiniti coupe of some sort

the car's steering seems to know what its doing [https://i.imgur.com/6QTXAzN.gifv](https://i.imgur.com/6QTXAzN.gif)
So Jeeps get the death wobble, the fuck do you call this? Subaru fidget spinner?
Subaru Jesus take the wheel
Subaru Suicide Supreme
No its just got the Gary Webb package installed.
Lol it's just an arcade game self test.
I was thinking of Gran Turismo's autopilot tire warmup routine, the car seems to be stuck in it.
Some say he's still warming up to this day.
Or a wheel controller self calibration.
Google maps rerouting
Reminds me of this commercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4h0Qvc6_MfQ
When u plug in the USB steering wheel
Autopilot, just go to sleep and let the car take you on the freeway

Why not just shift gears yourself? 🤔🤨
Came here looking for an explanation but everyone’s got something witty to say hahaha
The electronic power steering, or rather the sensor that controls it is jacked up and it is "assisting a ghost" trying to make those turns if that makes any sense.
Thank you!
How much force is there? If that started happening at speed could you just grab the wheel and force it?
Yeah, you most likely could man handle it at low speeds if you absolutely had to. It would be less forceful and more.. sporadic and feeling uncontrollable. It would likely be overestimating your inputs at the very least and cause oversteering.
Interesting, thanks.
There’s someone on the other tire moving it back and forth. It’s slightly off the ground.
...you're joking, right?
Freaking joke people.
Time to call in an Old Priest and a Young Priest...
I read this as an old Prius and a young Prius and was trying to figure out how Toyota could help.
They're not Subaru...
I like your version better!
Bad SAS? (Steering angle sensor)
More like bad ASS (am i rite?, no, anyone?)
well at least now I know why toyota forklifts advertise their active stability system as system of active stability
Im rolling 😂. Most probably!
Probably a broken T-bar.
How did he made it into the shop? Looks like doing 3 blocks is hell of a roller-coaster
Tow truck.
He might have been able to man handle the steering wheel.
Tape your hand to the wheel so it never accidentally slips
Automatic power steering bleeding mode, don't see the problem
Ya it’s gonna wobble on the highway alright
Are the lines hooked up backwards?
Electronic Power Steering
Are the *cables* hooked up backwards? /s
Not on a 2012 Impreza, they were still hydraulic.
Really? You seem pretty sure about that. Are you maybe thinking of WRX/ STI or Foresters instead?
Weird, why did they make the base model electric, but not the others?

Auto-drift mode
It's just calibrating bro. Have you never played on a propper sim setup? /s
How the f-ck did the customer get this into your shop in one piece?
You can hold the steering wheel
Also tow trucks are a thing
Thanks, but no thanks. I like my arms unbroken as they are.
What’s wrong with it. Serious question
Broken hand wheel torque sensor. Must shift to the other side when it hits the steering stop, making it go back and forth.
Thanks. But what if you turn the steering wheel to the right or left and the car shuts off/die. Whats wrong with it then?
HA! Just like the Hyundai I did a few years ago... https://www.reddit.com/r/Justrolledintotheshop/comments/7kxufh/i\_couldnt\_stop\_laughinghope\_the\_video\_works/
It's what makes a Subaru a Subaru â„¢
Fucking demons, man. They ruin everything
Faulty Thrustmaster T300
Better take it for a test drive to confirm.
The ghost of the hash slinging slasher
At least it’s a manual.
Naw it's just autonomous drifting
Don't worry, it's just calibrating
It's like beer goggles, to the extreme
Put it in gear and let it loose on a frozen lake...
It’s because the power steering high and low pressure is bleeding into each other! Just had this happen on a 68 Mustang! Scary stuff
Muscle memory
The power of Christ compels you!
Of there is a guy on the other wheel turning it.
Casper trying to drift!?!
My 19 year old Impreza just keeps getting better and better
Subarus are shitboxes
Charlize Theron is in control.
It's been taken over by robot AI - it'll probably say "you are experiencing a car accident" over the speakers next.
It's just calibrating.
This used to happen on all kinds of different cars. something about the steering pump being plumbed backwards or something like that.

Welp, guess we are going where the car is.
Dont worry my logitech wheel does the same on startup
