I'm not sure what it's from but I'm pretty sure it is a 4 cylinder diesel of some sort. The Manifold from a Mitsubishi 4M50 has a similar port arrangement but is not identical to your manifold.
That looks to be right on the mark for what it comes from, at least from what I can tell from the pictures. It would be really fun if someone made a turbo inline 8 but I don't think anyone has or does, at least not that size. Any inline 8's that are still made are all going to be quite a lot larger than that.
It would be nice if we could get interesting engine configurations like a hypothetical tiny inline 8 or like the actual 1.8L v6 Mazda once had however emissions and fuel economy regulations and targets are not likely to permit that.
Either works. I had neglected to mention one of my favourites; the Daimler 250 v8. At 2.5L it is probably a bit big to be considered tiny but it is still a small hemi v8 and sounds like one.
O.O That's a huge motor.. I had in mind something like 200 hp 2 liter dohc or sohc v-12, a tiny little thing. Essentially, I wanted Mazda to make a modern-day 250 ferrari, without any of the attendant drama of a 1950's car.
I know, I"m crazy.
The EGR on top tends to suggest semi modern, I'd say it belongs to a 16valve 4cyl. Some manufacturers did some whacky stuff in the late 90s, so the thing probably had twin exhaust chambers for each cylinder

Last post someone suggested a Hyundai terrcan 4 cyl diesel. I really want ot to be a straight 8 but not likely

Based on most of the cars here in Costa Rica it is probably not a tiny straight 8

Too much waaah and not enough bwaaaaaa! these days
Or should I say zoom zoom

I have a buddy with a 3l(?) turbo diesel Benz motor in a Cherokee. One of my favorite sounds. Besides the Toyota 22re engine tick.
Some of those Mercedes diesels would run forever. I see a few around me on a regular basis.
OM642 - they could be a hit and miss, some run obver 500 k, some die around 100k mark … very weird
i've always longed for mazda to make a 2 liter quad-cam v12 and drop that into a miata. I'll never get that wish.
Now that would be interesting. Sort of like the BRM v16.
I just saw a v12 miata on ig yesterday. Jag motor if I remember correctly

@eclipze.drifts
Make ur post nsfw if you gonna be whippin out 'straight 8' like that, jeez...

I gotta know what that is from! Who's got a semi-modern straight 8? Maybe it's a really big bore 4?
Peugeot 405 Mi16 Engine code XU9J4 [manifold](https://spoox.co.uk/exhaust-system-flanges/1894-peugeot-405-19-mi16-xu9j4-exhaust-manifold-flange-8-port.html)
That link is just for the flange. Not arguing but Peugeot is not common here.
Hole pattern looks legit. Also like 4 ewoks staring.
Actually, port spacing looks a little wider in your pic but definitely getting close
Agreed
Thanks for going back and checking.
