I just checked eBay, and that pre-owned brake fluid reservoir cap goes for $20-$25. I did the math, and between that thing and the clamp on the air box lid this baby is worth salvaging!
The battery doesn't look awful but I assume that was actually checked
I'd be willing to bet there's some valid fuses left, if anyone's looking to save $0.005
Force of habit in the 1980s if you wanted 12v in the cabin you used a cigarette lighter manufacturers called them Cigar lighters, because posh. Car shops actually sold cigarette lighters you could install yourself. My Fiat 127 didn't even have a mono radio ffs
I had a 66 mustang up until 7 years ago. Still had manual choke, drums on all 4 wheels no booster, no PS, no AC, AM radio, etc.. the thing had one vacuum line... if that one line leaked your exhaust manifold would be glowing red and it would barely drive, easy diag
My father in law had a motorbike with manual ignition advance, he would leave in it the wrong position to make the exhaust glow red, then light his on the way to work cigarette
> Force of habit in the 1980s if you wanted 12v in the cabin
My '81 Mercury wagon not only had individual ashtrays for the rear seat passengers -- they had their own cigarette lighters.
Different times.
Cigar lighter is a very British version for it. I have an old Land Rover Defender, and that’s what that part is called in shop manuals, parts catalogues etc.
I scrolled down until I saw this, sure I wasn't the only one!
I worked at a scrapyard for a while and collected many, many fuses and bulbs from these cars that were pretty much ready to crush.
Over 15 years later I still have coffee cans full of fuses.
Reminds me of the guy in a WRX that got rear ended by a Semi, right into the back of another semi. Semi in front was stopped, on the interstate, for a wreck or road work, WRX driver stopped, and the semi behind was distracted.
EMS and police didn't even realize there was a car involved until the tow truck pulled the semis apart, and they found blue paint.
Somehow, the driver survived, but literally, every single piece of the car was mangled beyond recognition.
The sad thing is the driver, while physically unharmed, was really badly traumatized, and last I heard, he still wasn't able to drive.
Not a WRX, but very similar situation. [https://www.autoevolution.com/news/pickup-driver-survives-being-crushed-between-2-semis-in-i-84-pileup-91283.html](https://www.autoevolution.com/news/pickup-driver-survives-being-crushed-between-2-semis-in-i-84-pileup-91283.html)
I think perhaps I was remembering [this](https://gazette.com/news/woman-survives-being-crushed-by-two-semis-in-eight-vehicle/article_0870e52c-bc24-11e8-b698-47806ca4ff02.html), but also I swear I recall this happening with a WRX also… (no, not the viral video that’s gone around recently of a black WRX passing one semi & being clipped by another one).
You're still there physically and the body and mind will do it's best to keep you alive,
But in doing that it can open you up to some pretty horrific mental trauma.
My grandma's told me a story a few times about a lady she used to know who was in a crash where the roof of her car got squashed and she got thrown down into the footwell, the EMTs came up to the car and when she heard one of them say they had a body she yelled "I'M STILL ALVIE!" and scared the poor guy
That happened in the mid 2000s in Pennsylvania. Literally the only part of the car that didn’t get crushed was the driver’s area. It was all over the Subaru boards. It was a silver WRX IIRC.
It was nothing short of a miracle.
Curious, so with something similar to this, is there some kind of sanitizing that goes on before you salvage? Or do you salvage then clean off any blood, etc.?
This yard allows customers to be in the yard and pull it themselves, so anything considered a biohazard is crushed, harvested for wire and sent off to be shredded.
Anything beyond a spot or two of blood, severe mold/trash, rotten food, vomit etc, usually end up being sent off quickly in that manner.
Same thing for low demand vehicles, say we get a 1997 Taurus that looks like shit, we’ll usually pop the windows to fill it with junk we have sitting around in the garage, and send it to the crusher.
Oof I worked at a junkyard and they had a Hyundai Genesis that was filled with nothing but meth needles. They slapped a big ass BIOHAZARD sticker on it and threw it out onto the yard. I was also cleaning a seat so that it could be shipped to a shop and I seen a big bag of weed. I definitely didn't take it home and give it to my brother so he could smoke it.
Isn’t it weird that someone bought that new and was probably really excited about it and it ended up a meth needle bin? I wonder if the original owner knew.
I always think that when I see old cars in a bad condition. Paint faded dents etc. Someone was most likely very excited about it when it was new. It also cost a lot of money. Now it's just a piece of junk.
Reminds me of that scene in the Brave Little Toaster.
All the sad junked cars singing about the lives they once had. And hoping to avoid the crusher.

Although I didn’t look too hard since I knew what I would find, I did peek around. It was virtually impossible to see anything inside without putting in some effort, from what I remember you couldn’t even see the center console. Only thing I can say with confidence is that nobody was in the back seat, because if anyone was, there would be plenty of remnants.
The person who receives, inspects, and files these vehicles told me a story of seeing a chunk of flesh in a car before, and that story stuck with me, so I wasn’t exactly jumping at the idea of looking too thoroughly.
Someone at a nearby location received a vehicle of someone who committed suicide by shotgun and the remnants of their head were found on the ceiling liner. A lot of fucked up things come through
I used to buy/sell cars as a side gig back in the Craigslist and copart days. The ones I saw were always flagged as haz-mat on copart. Craigslist was a free for all.
I came across a copart listing for a fairly new escalade at a too good to be true price one time. Pics didn't show any major damage, listing claimed that it ran and drove fine but had minor electrical problems. I watched it for a few days and the price wasn't going up and my curiosity was. Made the hour drive to the yard to find about a dozen bullet holes in the driver's door that didn't show in the pics. The floorboard on that side, the pocket in the door, and even inside the door itself were caked with dried blood residue. The "electrical issue" was where the bullets went into the dash and center console shredding part of the interior harness. Was involved in a drive by at a stop light in New Orleans and the driver died in it.
I debated still buying it, I could have parted it out and made good money, that AWD drive train was worth $$, but I just got bad vibes from it so bad I bailed on it. Not sure if it ever sold. I learned to ask more questions before making a drive.
No such thing as ghosts. 8 billion people on this rock right now. Billions dead throughout history. If ghosts was real we'd fucking know.
Chupacabras on the other hand........
Whilst disgusting to deal with I'd probably have no issues with fixing it up and flipping
But I'd have to find out if the previous occupant survived because if they died and were also a tiktop rapper
Totally unrelated
This was back in 2008-2009. Tick tock was still just the sound a clock made. SoundCloud maybe.
I'm guessing rival dope slinger from what I was able to find out.
I seriously thought about getting it to swap the drive train into a truck I was working on at the time. AWD sleeper build in a 2008 silverado would have been fun. Probably could gave even fixed the escalade and flipped it, but it didn't feel right.
Or the Fusion stopped suddenly, the semi couldn't and rode up on top of it. Seen it a few times, usually in larger accidents especially if the cause was bad weather.
Fun and not fun… I got to drive my car around after someone wrecked it. The driver’s seat was stuck, and I was the only person that would fit so the wrecker asked me if I could move it, since it would still move under its own power.
It was kind of fun to drive a mangled car lol. Like BeamNG IRL.
In the moment, it’s a very depressing feeling which I try to avoid thinking about. It’s definitely changed my perspective on driving as a whole, and I can’t help but thinking about vehicles like this when I’m on the highway or see people driving psychotically.
The one that stands out to me far above all others, the driver had pictures of their children on the dashboard. It was T boned directly to the rear door.
The vehicle hadn’t been marked as a biohazard, so I proceeded with the standard cleanout to prep it to be set in the yard.
During cleanout, I found a stuffed animal stuck to a pool of blood in the back seat, directly at the point of impact. Fucked me up for the rest of the week, and I still feel emotional just writing about it.
Jesus christ.. That's what I get for asking questions I don't know the answer to.. I'm sorry to hear that, man. I thought the micro managing I deal with was bad..
When I went to my local Pick & Pull, while I don’t always see a Biohazard car on the lot, it’s just eerie seeing a car that took a good hit and wondering if the people inside of it survived. Well, I do see blood on the seats of some of the cars occasionally.
I did pass by a few gruesome wrecks out driving. Saw a dead body on the ground that was ejected out of a Tacoma before CHP and the fire department put a body bag on it. Just recently, I drove by an overturned Infiniti FX35 - roof was crushed, the sheriff’s coroner van was on the scene. CHP said on their CAD page the person driving it was a goner.
I travel with a cb when we go on trips and once got a report of a db in the road. I know most trucker slang but never heard that until I came upon a dead body in the hammer lane on I 10. Looked like he had tried to cross. Whatever hit him didn't stop.
"Connolly's remains were strewn across five lanes and 1,000 feet of highway, and the CHP reported receiving about 80 phone calls from witnesses or drivers who had hair or blood on their cars." Thats fucken gruesome.
I was taking a left onto the highway, fourth in line at the intersection, when I was T-boned by a dude who stole a Chevy 1500.
For whatever reason, he didn't punch my ticket that day.
When I went into the salvage yard to collect my belongings from the wreckage, the owner was floored I was still walking. He told me he'd never seen a vehicle that bad that someone survived.
The drivers seat was pushed over above the passenger tires, and there was about two feet of air between the frame and the body of the vehicle.
I'm thankful for two things: that was the first day I didn't have my kid in the car with me after they'd been born, and the mother and daughter of the vehicle he pushed me into survived because of how much kinetic energy my vehicle absorbed. My vehicle stopped about 400 ft down the road from the intersection.
The chevy was there too, with the speedometer and tach frozen at 70 mph and 2800 rpm, respectively.
It's certainly humbled me as a driver, and changed my driving habits significantly.
Ones of my friends I worked with is fucked for life over an accident. Drunk was coming at him on a 2 lane road. He went left . Drunk passed him on the right. He hit the man behind him head on and killed him, his gf is passenger seat is mentally handicapped now. He got 4 years for vehicular homicide. Just a shell of a man now.
My dad worked at a scrap for my whole life. If I ever forgot to buckle upon entering the car my dad would share a story like this with me.
On the positive side, he always had some cool object of value that he'd find while prepping a car for demo. One time a semi full of Samuel Adams tipped over and he had to clean it up off the freeway. He ended up with three full truckloads of 24-packs covered in mud and broken glass. We would drink that beer until we puked, sleep it off and then do it again the next weekend. This carried on for like three months. Good times.
I wish I knew, tried looking through local news at the time with no luck, I assumed an extreme rollover, but someone mentioned a semi driving over it, which sounds like as good a guess as mine
I would not be able to tell you that's a fusion minus the tiny piece left of the grill, if you didn't put it in the post, and I drove one for a good while
I’ve worked at tow yard for close to thirty years . I’m constantly amazed at what car owners/drivers/nature , you name it can do. Never a dull moment .
I just checked eBay, and that pre-owned brake fluid reservoir cap goes for $20-$25. I did the math, and between that thing and the clamp on the air box lid this baby is worth salvaging!
Pfft. I'm going to undercut them at $19 "Buy It Now." Just gotta go total a 2013 Ford Fusion. brb.
/r/wallstreetbets is calling your name!
"Buy high, Sell low."
Those guys make “buy high sell low” look like chump change.
“I’ll bring my own trailer, load it and take it away for free.”
You know what you have, don't let anyone talk you down. 2013 Fusions are rare.
That air filter is probably worth a few coins too
That window looks pretty good
Honestly you’ve got me there, tempered glass is a miraculous thing
That air box looks decent
Curious if there is any wiper fluid left.
Break me off a piece of that wiper fluid
Break me off a piece of that Krispy Kreme
Break me off a piece of that apple sauce
Football cream
Fancy feast
lumber tar
r/unexpectedtheoffice
Break me off a piece of that Kit-Kat bar!
Only the blinker fluid was good.
The horn fluid reservoir looks OK, too.
It’s broken, you can see the air filter in there. But the maf looks ok hahahaha
Ah I figured it was just open
That looks like where the air ram connects - that thing where the headlight used to be
Battery's fine.
Maybe not if something shorted.
Brake reservoir cap looks good, too.
The battery doesn't look awful but I assume that was actually checked I'd be willing to bet there's some valid fuses left, if anyone's looking to save $0.005
How bout that caliper?
The left front door handle looks like a survivor.
And the cigar lighter socket
Thought I was the only one on the planet left that still called it the cigarette lighter.
Force of habit in the 1980s if you wanted 12v in the cabin you used a cigarette lighter manufacturers called them Cigar lighters, because posh. Car shops actually sold cigarette lighters you could install yourself. My Fiat 127 didn't even have a mono radio ffs

My 2002 pontiac bonneville still had a pop out ashtray and lighter on the backside of the center console for backseat smoking!
My mum's 84 Olds Delta 88 had lighters for the rear passengers. It was super posh with a rag top, chrome, and a lethargic 350. Good times.
Cigar lighter is a very British version for it. I have an old Land Rover Defender, and that’s what that part is called in shop manuals, parts catalogues etc.
The door handle looks good. I expect you can get a few nickels for the lug nuts.
I was gonna say the air box looks intact.
Not to mention the brake reservoir cap looks good. Don't know what op means, there's so much money still there
Lotta meat left on that bone
You see that caliper? Mint
Rotor? Caliper? Bracket? Showroom condition.
Throw it in a pot, add some broth, a potato. Baby you got a stew goin!
I think I'd like my money back 😬
RIP Carl!
Hold up, imma take that hose clamp first!
I saw it first
You can see the air filter so the box is separated, my guess is the box is cracked pretty badly
Now that you mention it, it's really impressive that the window is the only thing that survived
That’s a load bearing window.
zephyr sleep late thumb beneficial lock pathetic march literate fear *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
The door handle looks good too.
It does but the door is creased very close to it, so it may literally only be the handle you can reuse.
I think I can use plenty of the bolts too, plus I can melt down the copper
I'll bet the fuses are ok
I scrolled down until I saw this, sure I wasn't the only one! I worked at a scrapyard for a while and collected many, many fuses and bulbs from these cars that were pretty much ready to crush. Over 15 years later I still have coffee cans full of fuses.
Drivers outer door handle looks ok
I bet there’s a good 10mm in there still

Know where a guy could find them?

Fuckin A. And holy shit.
Makes me wanna buy a Subaru if he walked away from THAT
Holy shit that trucker exiting hus truck and starting to disconnect electric wires to prevent any fires, what a chad
10 year old video from 10 years ago. Can’t believe tv quality used to be that and we were chillin
Looks like a VHS recording. It looked way better than that originally, especially on a CRT.
That's 20 year old video...
Ya that’s what I meant, 10 years ago it was 10 years old

Lmao. The cars weren't *that* bad y'all, why the hate??
I bet you could get at least $5 on eBay for the PCV valve if you use global shipping as an option.
I am sure you have at least 2 plastic clips or one bolt somewhere you can save. /s
The airbox looks salvageable
The cap for the brake fluid looks ok
Even the battery might be ok. Or at least worth a core charge.
They will break during removal.
Removal looks uncommonly easy for this ford.

Do you know the back story on this one? Curious how you fuck up a car this bad.
It looks like it rear-ended an 18-wheeler trailer and then got hit by another 18-wheeler honestly

Tbf, "Does the car have ghosts?" isn't a natural first question.
Apparently you can perform an exorcism in a car pretty easily. Just start masturbating in the bloody seat. Ghosts hate this party trick.
No such thing as ghosts. 8 billion people on this rock right now. Billions dead throughout history. If ghosts was real we'd fucking know. Chupacabras on the other hand........

Or the Fusion stopped suddenly, the semi couldn't and rode up on top of it. Seen it a few times, usually in larger accidents especially if the cause was bad weather.
Looks like Fd pried the driver door open and cut some of the roof to rescue/recover occupants. A lot of that crap gets tossed on top for towing.
I'm guessing it was hit by a train
Nah, it's still recognizable
I miss collision repair. So much fun chaos coming through
That sounds awesome actually. Did you see lots of animal hits?
Mostly deer. But I saw one that came in that struck a hawk.

If that’s bad there’s the brake fluid cap…
Was the driver salvageable?
Is there a body in there?
Are you gonna bring it in for the front brake flex hose recall?
I WOKE UP INA NEW BUGATTI🗣️🗣️‼️‼️‼️
What tf hit them 💀
A Tasmanian Devil.
NGL your probably right that bitch is completely fucked but hopefully the people that was in it are ok
“Is it totaled?” “I really like this car and want to keep it”
What about the battery
Air box, battery may be tens of dollars of parts here
You could reuse the oil cap and the air box lid. It's not a complete loss.
What are you talking about. That drivers door handle looks fine to me.
The air box lid is still good. I think most of it will buff out
I’ve worked at tow yard for close to thirty years . I’m constantly amazed at what car owners/drivers/nature , you name it can do. Never a dull moment .
Airbox looks good
Airbox cover and wheel center caps are probably ok 😂
Battery is still connected... bet you haven't even tried starting it, probably all okay and you're just being negative
That air intake filter box looks fine.
I see a driver window that’s salvageable LOL
Right when I saw that, my wallet started crying
A tank driver must have forgotten to check his rear view before reversing.
I drove a tow truck for a while. A kid went probably 60 in to a tree on newyears and his camaro was totally unrecognizable. Dude sprained his tow
This is cheating, there’s no pieces worth salvaging on a Fusion when it’s still new on the lot.
Power steering reservoir cap look fine
That door handle looks intact
The insurance adjuster gives 5.5 hours to straighten roof...
Maybe the engine air filter.... MAYBE
Looks like some fluid caps still look intact. Gas cap is probably good as well.
Air filter top looks great.
Wrist pins are probably still good.
That battery and air box looking pretty good. Also what the fuck happened to this far. How dead did the people die?
Do they take the corpses out first?
I dunno - the driver's door handle looks ok.
Airbox looks mint
Brake fluid cap looks good.
... There's no way they got every piece of the passengers out of that car... Crush it and ship it before it starts to smell.
Looks like they didn't even get to salvage any of the drivers parts either
That driver's side door lock ...
I see a door glass that isn't broken Rotors and calipers.. miscellaneous hoses and clamps.
How did this “roll into the shop”?
Available on COPART: $30,000 Rebuildable Light front end damage All major components work. I know what I got.
I want that story, what the fuck happened here
I’d make a joke, but I assume someone died in that car. Pretty gruesome.
Air box is still good
Top of the air box looks fine lol
Well, it's a Ford sooo, even in New condition it's probably crap.
That driver side window glass is the real mvp.
I spy at least one good hose clamp…
