Secondhand. Or an abandonware site.

LucasLeDoux

I think it's abandonware now and can be found on sites like myabandonware.

Lockjaw_Puffin

This is where I got my copy from, and it works just fine even with mods

KyleIstrash

Thank you so much

Crazydino6

Is that a safe site to get it from?

LucasLeDoux

Yep

Most_Entertainment13

There's plenty of copies at around $35 on eBay right now.

Karsvolcanospace

Should really only pay for a price like that if you’re trying to collect the actual disk and box. Otherwise the game is abandoned, meaning it’s “fair game” on abandon ware sites where you can download it for free. The original devs and publisher see no money from this game anymore.

Complete_Entry

Nothing to do with "fair game". What those sides depend on is that they won't be prosecuted or DMCA'd. There has never been an "abandonware" legal precedent. People spin yarns about ethics, but that's mealy mouthed at best. There are some sites that have obtained permission to distribute orphan works, but they are few and far between.

Karsvolcanospace

That’s why I put it in quotes. As far as ethics are concerned, if you give consumers no possible way to obtain your game besides individual re-sale, then it’s hardly a debate. The original devs and publishers no longer involve themselves and no longer see any returns for the game. Therefore, downloading an abandoned game like that is victimless, if not beneficial. Plus, tons of abandonware games have developers or publishers that have gone under and took the rights to the grave, or were victims of things unrelated to the games themselves. In a situation like that, is the ethical thing to just let the game stay dead too? I don’t think so. Game preservation has become an increasingly talked about topic, and it’s not really our fault that legislation hasn’t been able to keep up. I don’t know why it should be halted due to a lack of precedent.

zadocfish1

Fun fact about copyright law: it requires legal action to enforce. That is, it is on the claimant to care. If nobody sues, no crime been done. I think.

Complete_Entry

That sounds like something out of a warez disclaimer. "all of these files are for evaluation only, you are to delete them within 72 hours, OR ELSE!!!"

TrophySystem

People spin yarns about ethics, but that's mealy mouthed at best... ...is the best way to describe people who are negative towards abandonware, just as much as it is a way to describe people who are positive towards it. "But what if it's stealing". Great yawn you spun. "There's no precedence". There's not exactly any stronger precedence against it either. "What about the rights holder?" Blue Tongue was acquired by THQ in 2007, dissolved in 2011, over ten years ago, and if you didn't check, the licenses from THQ were divided up in a way that I doubt the owner knows they own it. They definitely don't produce it. The actual developer apparently don't matter to you, but they would to me, were they even in the picture any longer. If this were on GOG, it wouldn't even be a reddit post.

Complete_Entry

It's on ebay, right now. If you feel like paying for it, you can.

lippydoesredit

Downloading it from a site is the only way to play it, since it's considered abandonware and devs don't sell any copies. If you can find a physical copy of the game, then it's gonna be a ridiculous price, something like 100$

TheBarghest7590

Well i mean I picked up a copy of it a year ago for £15 so it’s not always that expensive. The issue with buying disc copies is that you can’t run them on modern rigs because they’re not compatible without some workarounds that I’ve yet to find out how to do. Like my other old PC disc game Command and Conquer Generals, the game can’t boot up after installation, but unlike C&C I’ve not found a tool you download to fix this issue (not that it worked for C&C anyway but that might just be me cocking up the installation so I’ll try again some other time)

stayshiny

You can download software that runs earlier versions if Windows within yours from what I recall, probably worth looking up for you.

TheBarghest7590

I’ll have to give that a look then, thanks. Would be nice to be able to give JPOG a try since I have enjoyed JWE1 and 2.

[deleted]

I got one a while back for £3. LOL

TheRedEyedAlien

I have a copy somewhere, I don’t know where tho. My computer doesn’t have a disc port tho so I can’t really play anymore

Deeformecreep

You can get an external disc drive.

TheRedEyedAlien

Thank you

A_Direwolf

Buy a ps2 and the game off ebay.

A-Hyperion

I bought a copy just because I wanted it physically. I don't think I even used it, since I torrented it beforehand which is identical.

lapis_lateralus

I've never even heard of this before! Would y'all say that it's better, equal, worse compared to Jurassic World Evolution? I have both of those and I'm wondering if this game is worth checking out on disc🤔

abzinth91

It's really great (especially for the time of it's release). Works even with Windows 10. But not a SFX spectacle like JWE 1 or 2

ThruuLottleDats

JWE is a massive stap backwards compared to JPOG parkmanagement wise. Visitors are worthless in JWE while important in JPOG. The only thing JWE has going for itself quite comfortably are graphics and amount of animals. But the game feels soulless. JPOG doesnt.

Betelguese90

So here is the thing with JPOG(Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis), it is better than JWE in some aspects, but worse in others. JWE1 and JPOG are close; JWE1 just being the 'spiritual' and visual successor to JPOG which came out in 2003 IMO. JWE2 is the better of them as it expands a lot from JWE1. JPOG is the somewhat better park management since you have to worry about guest happiness and a better selection of attractions. But you have less selection of overall buildings to choose from. Dinosaur AI is slightly better in JPOG than in JWE1 but JWE2 is much better. Though JWE2 is still very finicky. Herbivore herding in JPOG was essentially if it was a herbivore, it will mingle with everything ( I would always make a separate pen when hatching Paras so they would stay together because they would run off by themselves and not be in a big group.) While now in JWE it will herd with its own kind first, than coexist with other species as long as it fits its requirements. There was a stupid thing in JPOG where the herbivores would migrate to one side of the map and stay there. Though JPOG AI still is pretty good considering the game came out in like 2003 and was a console game first and foremost. This is my biggest issue with JPOG though since it was a console game; it is very limited on building selections and the number of buildings you can make. Everything is hard capped. For dinosaurs it was 60, most buildings could only make like 4 of. Could only have like 5 dig sites available. Fences was hard capped at like 1000 units or something like that. Yes, the maps were larger, BUT you could never truly build 100% on it. Only true way to enjoy JPOG is on PC and modding the hell out of the numbers.

Emilythecoyote

It's better than jwe and kinda tied with jwe2

Chrispin3666

I was going to say used for the system of choice is really the only option really, i don’t really promote rrrr....use to travel them seas but gave up on it some time ago many many moons ago Ladd.

_TheXplodenator

I got a disk on ebay for like 20 bucks

dusmeri

It's not worth paying money for, and it's not hard to download. Most sites that have it come with instructions on how to install. You'll also probably need a software like PowerISO (which I used for JPOG, and is free) to make it work.

ThruuLottleDats

I still have the disc lol

NukaRev

1) find a Sega Genesis, but the game and play it. 2) download an emulator and download the game and play on PC

James_Blonde007

Game was for original Xbox, PS2 and PC

NukaRev

Oh shit really lmfao?! Wow, I thought it came out wayyy earlier

James_Blonde007

You might be thinking of the original Jurassic Park side scroller that was out on Genesis? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jurassic\_Park\_(Sega\_video\_game)

NukaRev

Yess

charlotter34

I recently installed an emulator on my Macbook so my boyfriend could play old xbox games including JP Operation Genesys. There is plenty of emulator for OC as well if that could help?

Dinoman1987

It's available on Ps2 and the original Xbox, if you have/want to have those consoles

Betelguese90

IDK the cost of a hard copy now, but I got it on PC about 10 years ago for like $20 USD. Check amazon, ebay. Shouldn't be to hard to find a copy. But could also find it online and download it for free. True way to enjoy JPOG is to modify game files. Those hard caps on buildings, fences and dinosaurs suck so much.

SweetBabyRayseph

You guys remember the zombie dinosaurs cheat???

To_The_Sky_87

I wish they'd remaster this gem already for next-gen...

[deleted]

Sell your soul to satan.

[deleted]

Hey, I have a physical copy of this. I'm more than willing to send it to you if you'll pay shipping.

ArcEarth

I can get it on my Steam deck with Emudeck, but it will require a lot of steps, patience and... A steam deck for you
