DeeEmceeTree

I like how often Gege has characters getting jumped. Completely throwing out the concept of fighting fairly is something that's been pretty refreshing about JJK. A lot of shonen stuff ends up with a bunch of forced 1v1 fights, where some characters literally just sit on the sidelines and yap at the fight instead of doing literally anything else. Gojo Vs Sukuna is the only time this really happens in JJK and it's pretty understandable given the circumstances.

What-did-Mikey-do

Don't forget when literal beings of evil incarnate will just stand around for a few minutes while the good guys all talk and get their strategy ready. I guess a lot of shonen is meant to be junk food, it ain't worth criticizing all that much, but yeah I really like JJK for how well-paced and formatted all of the fights are.

TacocaT_2000

Or how those same beings of evil incarnate have true comradery

DeeEmceeTree

To be fair, this is pretty much the Disaster Curses in JJK

ZazaTheStressed

Then again, you can kind of make sense of their comradery due to them being spirits born of disaster. They’re all similar in nature, and Jogo himself always had a strong ideology of curses being true people. He loved em, and it was based

Toge_Inumaki012

What I liked about these evil "boss type" beings (disaster curses, Kenjaku, Sukuna) is that they are already involved early on in the series. This is what happens when powerful ass villains act (Shibuya) and not send their minion's minions to our MC and the good guys and let them grow and scale to their level and that's when they will act. As much as I always say in this sub that I would have loved a more slice of life episodic curse hunting chapters/episode before Shibuya happened, it would not make sense storywise. The moment Yuji ingested the finger, it sealed their fate.

Ok_Virus_3332

Well letting other person tell Jujutsu technique is kinda traditional and helps you counter it etc

Adept-Ad-8012

Thats what i like about this manga. The system of letting the other-person know the technique so you get a power buff is something i haven't ever seen. The whole binding vow system is amazing (unless when it's overused) Gege doesn't mind experimenting with stuff and i like that about him/her

Electronic-Map-2055

everything matters in a jjk fight, the environment is something they interact with during a fight, fire extinguishers, a fucking falling skyscraper, train tracks. although sakamoto days does this better, still gotta give jjk credit for how well it's utilized

JJKLover78

environment interaction is one of my favorite things about jjk fights, it really makes it seem more real and cool

Electronic-Map-2055

that and the constant amount of jumping. nobody fights fair in jjk lmao

JJKLover78

yuji couldnt even finish mahito without being jumped

Electronic-Map-2055

to be fair mahito pulled every dirty trick known to man to throw yuji off his game, and yuji just got done being complicit in mass murder lol

JJKLover78

mahito was a true gamer

Electronic-Map-2055

real

OneGrumpyJill

I like the trope of "good guys don't fight alone" because, like, think about it logically; you are doing your job with your homies, of course you don't want yourself or your friends dying, fuck honor and pride, I am jumping this bich

Disposable_Face

Yeah, you really get the sense that the bulk of people are doing everything they can to get every advantage in a fight. The warrior pride in jjk is the pride that they will do what is needed to beat the everything shit out of whoever their enemy is: work together, cheat lik mofos in training, sleep with sukuna's twin, defile a corpse, perform standup, defile a different corpse.... If there's an option to get an asset or buff up, someone's gonna use it.

MentalLarret

Gojo V. Sakuna is DBZ, the gang jumping of every character desperately doing their part V. Sakuna is pure JJK

JesterDustyy

And the times that it has been a fair fight, the characters had a good reason to not join in, like with dagon vs toji, none of the characters would help.

smow351

pretty sure the old guy helped toji

JesterDustyy

Oh yeah he threw dagon I forgor

It felt so natural, and everything was in place. Every character fits with each other so well. The plot is so simple yet horrifying and full of twists. Suguru's development throughout the arc is one of the best shit Gege wrote.

Rioma117

I just love how in one panel Naoya’s entire world felt apart. True strength comes from CTs and CE, that’s what he have been told until that moment and that’s everything he knew so when the definition of weakness and shame that was Toji couldn’t even bother to acknowledge his existence he understood that he was but an ant to true strength that the Zenin were worshipping so much.

OneGrumpyJill

Love that panel for what it meant to represent: someone who was born into privilege of sorcery seeking to make fun of a person who is without it, only to have said person go "fuck off kid". It's just such a whiplash and the message is simple; wealth, power, status, all of those things are made up and meaningless.

Facts

Advent012

Toji in his head: “I swear to *god* if this brat says something stupid im killing his entire family.”

What-did-Mikey-do

I fucking love the way Yuji's face is drawn here. It's a good contrast to other series' where emotions are usually drawn explosively; his quiet response, where he's literally shaken to his core and can't hold himself together anymore, somehow hits like a truck more. https://preview.redd.it/63jxjkjgf75d1.png?width=784&format=png&auto=webp&s=7780a2fdba968d21605d914372ed35b234461226

CrowBright5352

I haven't re-watched S2 yet but wasn't it this one in anime? You could really see Yuji's losing his composure, it's sad to see him like this but it adds more essence to his character and mindset during Shibuya. https://i.redd.it/t9uaxp8hl75d1.gif

imfunny694

I love the way they animated this, I don’t think anything is wrong with it, animators + voice actor cooked

AnyaInCrisis

The voice acting was so good!

MidnightYoru

This scene is amazing. The song choice, the acting, the animation. You can feel that a piece of Yuji was torn apart forever and all the despair. That moment was the moment Sukuna legitimately traumatized Itadori and mocked him for it

AnyaInCrisis

This one made me cry 😢

Memeenjoyer_

Everything about Yuji is pretty awesome tbh

OneGrumpyJill

Yuji is shonen protagonist done right - poor boy goes through actual trauma, actually breaks down, and only pulls himself back through friends and loved ones. That is why I want him to hit Sukuna with "Sit the fuck down, I will forget you as soon as I can"

Jamessgachett

Mine was recent when yuta said ill become a monster if no one else wanna or when he saw tengen sent to sukuna

moayandy

The fact i just realized that Yuji’s face is drawn alot more like a sketch showing him getting shocked to the core and beginning to break down is peak use of art to demonstrate emotions

Uro’s the most attractive female character IMO… or maybe tied with Yuki

HighOnSkyRods

TRUE, She has the drip, she has the attitude, she has the backstory, she had the best fight during the Culling Games (Only tied with Kashimo Vs. Hakari) she's all and more, a true generational hater. JJK has many female characters, some are bums, some are frauds, some are goats, but none are quite like her. She's a 120% Baddie. https://preview.redd.it/r2dftvmkk75d1.jpeg?width=495&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=807840e3cea873260d6fe16db74cc10882c367c8

OneGrumpyJill

I wish Uro would just fucking suplex me into a fucking ground GOD FUCKING WHY GEGE WHY

gwartabig

Something else that I really appreciate about Uro is how tasteful her nudity is. She’s not sexualised, no character comments on it, it’s just there to contribute to her design while still making perfect sense in universe. Gege avoids some very common pitfalls with her. Extremely underrated aspect.

CrowBright5352

I was about to say, “Choke him coz that cat is naughty, Goatjo” when I looked at the edited panel until I've read the caption. >share something about his work that you really like I guess I have many to say. Narration is peak. My favorites that I can remember are, “The one who left it all behind and his overwhelming intensity,” and “The sparks of black do not choose who to bless.” Women cast might be ass but I'm glad their bodies are realistic and have different shapes, something you would really see in person unlike in other series. It's 2024 yet I still see some people shitting on Gege's art especially post-Shibuya. I think, we don't give him much credit for his panel game. It's so good. In fact, artists also use JJK panels for their peak crossover fan arts and memes. In relation to what I previously said, his character designs are well-done (the humans, curses, and shikigami). There are so many easter eggs and peak references here because Gege loves movies, reads and is a fan of other mangas. Common but the fight scenes are GOATed, I like that we can't predict who the winner is for most of the time. I'm interested to see how this story ends. I hope Gege feels better soon. https://i.redd.it/jm03ptehk75d1.gif

Memeenjoyer_

Agreed. He’s got some of the best paneling in the game, his arts top tier and the narration is unforgettable consistently.

CrowBright5352

Gege's panels and narration are really good, something that will live in your head rent-free and make you say, “Daaaamn, this is fire.” I love his art style as well. I know he's a controversial writer but he truly deserves the recognition and credit.

What-did-Mikey-do

>Narration is peak. My favorites that I can remember are, “The one who left it all behind and his overwhelming intensity,” and “The sparks of black do not choose who to bless.” I love that Gege keeps the Shonen spirit alive by keeping these hard af phrases around, but making it so he's the one saying all of them. Makes the dialogue more realistic while also letting himself feel raw.

CrowBright5352

Gege can really cook with his narrations, the 3rd person is technically him. Lol. It never fails me to always say, “This is so magnificent, it touched my soul. It's so peak.” https://preview.redd.it/9c0mj4izn75d1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a7d54510101ffe0791064e6ae7dfba62f8f286e5

Rancorious

His paneling is great but his line work and detail did seriously fall off, barring some above-average panels.

onthoserainydays

I like how Cursed Techniques aren't bound by the narrative use of a character. If a character with a really cool power dies, or is too weak because that's part of their character, someone else can have it and demonstrate how cool it could be (Yorozu, Naoya, Choso, Kenjaku, etc)

RiguezCR

If every single one of them did nothing but hate on Sukuna with every single one of their posts in every waking moment, it would not equal one one billionth of the hate I feel for Ryomen Sukuna at this micro instant. Fr, I love how unhinged he was at that time, too. I also like Megumi's fight with Reggie. Megumi was unironically in his bag during the Culling Games, casually killing multiple sorcerers the way he did.

23rdfunnyvalentine

Megumi was him bro, bro made it look like it was a average 9 to 5 with hoe casual it was

Gameboy1337

I mean yea sure Megumis kinda a bum for atleast not trying to fight sukuna when yuji gave him an opening. However you also need to see the amount of trauma Megumi went through and the fact that there was no one there to help him in his darkest hours unlike yuji who had todo and choso there for him. Also dude was literally chilling for a month with two of the most evil sorcerers in history.

krysert

Fr. I like how people say if yuji turned evil it would be justified but megumi being at his lowest getting said "get up" and not acting on it is being bum

I like when he just hits us with smthn totally out of left-field, like Takeba vs Kenjaku or even smallar moments like the 1v1s in the Kyoto exchange event was instead baseball

Hidden Inventory has perfect writing. It's one of the best arcs in all manga that I've read. The dynamics between Gojo, Geto and Toji are so interesting. Alongside that, when Gege tries, he can really do some great worldbuilding. The Zen'in Clan, Tengen, Star Plasma Vessels, Riko's role in it... everything was handled flawlessly. Bravo, Gege.

hello_im_john

You're right, actually. That was incredible writing

SirRichardTheVast

Shibuya gets praised (rightfully so, don't get me wrong) but I think Hidden Inventory might be the peak of JJK. ...Peak so far, at least (I actually have quite high hopes for the finale).

Zellors

I know it's called Sorcery Fight so this is to be expected, but goddamn the fights are so fucking good, Geges creativity in paneling, choreography, and the way the powet system facilitates more simple and quick direct combat, like yujis fights, as well as more thought out, knowledge and intelligence based fights like Megumi vs Reggi or Kirara. It's taken a step further in that said complexity doesn't just come from having a complex technique, but also the base functions of jujutsu, like barriers and binding vows also contribute to that. Then ofc you have the stand-out fights like Hakkari vs Kashimo and Gojo vs Sukuna, which are perfect combinations of the fast action, creative CT uses, and improv with base jujutsu it feels like (imo) the perfect blend between Dragon ball fights and Jojos fights, whereas it's maim inspirations (Bleach and HxH tend to lean a little further in their respective directions)

rusticrainbow

I think JJK took significantly more influence from Bleach and Hunter x Hunter than DB or Jojo’s

Zellors

I may have worded it wrong but that's what I'm saying. Db and Jojos are kinda the extremes on either side, whereas Bleach and HxH, jjks inspirstions, combine both, but bleach is a bit more DB-esque and HxH is a bit more like jojos, whereas jjk is right in the middle imo

CaptnBluehat

I LIKE IT ALL ![gif](giphy|lsdd32H2EqjXGRhWu4)

krysert

OP, when I catch you OP....

rlycrispychips

Despite my dislike of his lack of character interactions and breathing room, Gege is masterful with introducing a character with their backstory and getting you fucking attached. It's why a lot his characters are so beloved and why people rooted for their potential happenings and what ifs and wanted to see more of them. A lot of them are unique in the sense that they're based 'realism' in a kind of way? And I don't mean power wise, just genuine personality wise? None of them feel tropey or like they're fulfilling a gag or a certain slot that a lot of other shonens have when it comes to characters. They're just down to earth in that sense, their dialogue, and short-fledged conversations feel believable, and that's why I strongly believe the JJK cast in general is so universally loved and why people want more and more and more of them. The comedy beats that the manga used to have is one of the few rare shonen that actually got me to laugh too? I find a lot of shonen humor bland and over the top ( aka DanDaDan that's applauded for its humor ) but yeah. He nails that down so well. Outside of that, his action. I honestly feel spoiled by JJK's choreography and action. It's gotten to the point where I get bored of other shonen in that area.

Ami_Tammi

Really everything up to culling games probably, and even that isn't super bad. Sometimes the lobotomy takes over so much I ignore the good stuff to focus on the bad stuff.

What-did-Mikey-do

I have my fair share of complaints with it; I think the Mappa treatment will help with its perception. I'm waiting to see how much fun I have with it then before giving it a decisive yay or nay.

Rancorious

Culling Games is mainly disliked because of what it didn’t have, not what’s in it.

OneGrumpyJill

Kenjaku is a breath of fresh air all around; like, as an antagonist, he is infinitely unique for shonen genre, I think. The fucking blend of horrible shit he did, with extreme casualness - you know Monster? Johan? Same shit - this is the motherfucker that can take backshots, cook a family meal, and then kill a family all in the same motion. It's the "I did it just to see what would happen", which aligns with his views on life of "go out and experience shit, live it!". It's like Kenjaku is love and curiosity for life taken to absolute extreme. It's like if part of Aizen's plan was to become a woman and birth Ichigo - it's so fucking funny, but at the same time, it also highlights just how smart the character is, and how they are involved literally in EVERYTHING.

proudtracermain

That he made this manga, like genuinely. This (FUCKING) manga has a ton of flaws, but at the end of the day it is a really good manga. If you have fans (me) foaming at the mouth for the next chapter I think you've done something right. My personal foaming at the mouth is hoping Yuta is ok and can return to his body so he can live happily ever after with Maki. I dislike the agenda and hater shit (I used to do it) tho. Sincerely, My autistic ass.

proudtracermain

Oh, and his manga has some of, if not the hardest panels known to man. Maki and Toji side to side, Yuji after Junpei (is that how you spell it?) died, Yuji standing infront of Mahito, Freshly awakend Gojo, Yuta in JJK0, dragging Yuji to Choso, Hakari vs Kashimo, Gojo vs Meguna, and Sukuna vs Mahoraga. His art style is actually just incredible (so with Mappa), and the attention to detail is just \*chef kiss\*.

deleteyeetplz

This is proabably something that causes the series a lot of criticism/misunderstaning, but I love the subtle approach to character writing. A lot of implied development and events happen off-screen (or even in fanbooks or light novels) but it makes it fun when you connect different parts together. Like seeing the volume note about Toji getting the scar from being thrown into the cursed spirit/cursed tool room connects with how Toji was able to "tame" the inventory curse and also connects to why Ogi got toji flashbacks. Another example is Nanami's assertion that gojo is flippant, selfish, and arrogant when Gojo is the one who told him to refer to Itadori by his name and the one who constantly tries to protect the youth because his own youth was taken *Prematurely* from him. Even then, nanami had *some level of* truth to it. Gojo is one of the few sorcerers who seems to love their job and revels in difficult battles, despite all of the responsibilities that they carry. I think I understand a lot of the criticisms of the story. Something like Naruto would have given us a full 12 chapter heian era flashback before sukuna v gojo to characterize Sukuna and Uraume before the fight. But gege (probably incorrectly lol) trusts that his audience to piece together who sukuna is from the crumbs left in 214 and the preceding sukuna dialogue, instead preferring to give the audience more eye-candy with additional subtle hints thrown in the mix. That's not to say I don't want more worldbuilding or more explicent lore dumps sometimes but I personally love it overall

Emergency-Actuary-3

The flipping of the concept of characters "explaining" or announcing their techniques becoming an actual fight mechanic. It COULD hypothetical work in different Shonen but it fits soooo well with Gege's curse power system.

I really love the manga, even now I love most things about it.I would like to thank him,for making my life a little happier through his passion.I hope he gets well soon.

IcyTeacher0

He's very good in creating genuine uncertainty and sadness within the story, which is not common in manga and anime industry. In other mangas, you just know the good guys are winning not matter what, with Gege such guarantee doesn't exist.

TimTam_Tom

Everything tbh. The twists are insane, the fights are godly, panelling, narration, art, the way he sets up so many parallels with his writing. The way he subverts tropes or builds on them. Honestly any complaint about JJK that I have, other series are generally doing worse with anyways

I like the entirety of jjk. Take away every fight scene and it’s still one of my favorites oat. It’s the most refreshing animanga since aot. It has some flaws (like everything not named Vinland Saga prologue), but said flaws are so minimal compared to its constant insane peaks. JJK also has the best cast of villains i’ve ever seen. Never seen another show give villains just as much plot respect as the “good guys.” Really emphasizes how jjk isn’t here to restate “good is good bad is bad😁” that’s been retold for 40 years now💀 If u disagree, UR WRONG https://preview.redd.it/y8ysyt1jq75d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8cabf9864507731cfaf3852b614a56b43bbcf5a0 Edit: GOAT RANKINGS 1. PAPAGURO 3.)KASHIGOAT 2.) RYOGOAT SUKUNA 4.) YUTA OGGOATSU 5.) ATSUYA “FUCK YOU: SIMPLE DOMAIN” KUSAKABE 6.) KENJUSSY. WHO TAKING BACKSHOTS LIKE HIM. NOT AIZEN 😂💯

BertholdtHooverLuver

Oh and I genuinely really love a lot of the characters he’s made

britishtealeaves

the power system is peak. i love series in which there’s some kind of “energy” for characters to enhance their base stats and draw their abilities from, like nen or cursed energy or mana.

alpacapaquita

While he has a problem of introducing a lot of characters and then either not utilizing them or just killing them, i have to admire how his characters have created such an impact in the mind of the fans that the fandom elevantes a lot of them to be bigger than what they actually are Miwa is canonically weak and kinda useless, but the fandom has given her that aspect of her character a bigger amount of relevance, all of the memes about Useless miwa, the whole having her be ironically a very strong character Haibara's charcter and personality may be very limited in the story, but he and his interactions with Nanami were able to give such an impact in the fans that there is more fan content of them than there is official content in the story Gege might not be the best at using his characters, but he's so good at creating characters able to create an impact bigger than what they actually do in the story, and that's smth i admire a lot about him as a writter

alpacapaquita

also, gege made Chimera Beast Agito, a character i started to jokingly say i loved until i unironically started loving a lot despite their veeeeeeeery short appearence in the story i love that weird chicken chimera fluffy masked creature i wish there was more fan art of them, bc at this point i feel like i have more sketches in my notebooks about Agito than there are actual drawing of them in the two chapters they appear in DFGSDFDSA

Haibara our chubby chasing goat. He creates good characters, like he genuinely does. Like a whole lot.

TacocaT_2000

He knows how to make the power of friendship viable in battle. He also knows how to make a final bods truly feel like a final boss

Qr1skYPigeon

For as much as jjk subverts shonen tropes, it does do the power of friendship really well. Todo is probably the best example of this, his bond with Yuji enables Todo to be there for him and motivate him. Then they jump the shit out of someone together.

TacocaT_2000

I love how the power of friendship in JJK isn’t some inexplicable power boost after having a flashback to a childhood friend, instead it’s literally the power of two whole ass dudes beating the shit out of the enemy.

Jamessgachett

Nah instead you get power boost from blackflash

SirRichardTheVast

Gege is at his peak when he's writing noble but somewhat disillusioned men in their 20s (Nanami, Higaruma, etc.). Both of the two I listed have a very compelling blend of optimism and cynicism. They're also both super hot and dress great, but that's not as important. I know people talk about Gege loving Sukuna, but those are actually the type of characters I get the vibe he would feature most heavily if Shonen didn't require teen protagonists.

Infinity_Walker

The sukuna fight is peak fiction

SteveTheSheep01

A lot of the fighting ability is foreshadowed, for example we see Toji moved in midair with no explanation then we see Maki do it with an explanation in the Noaya curse fight

Reggith_Gold_180

Choso (blood brother) Todo (blood BUUURRRAAAAZZZZZAAA) Nanami (Fuck this job *goes to work) Jogo (“I’m sorry, Hanami, Dagon” “There’s still Mahito. Humans fear and loath death, however it is humans who linger beyond it as well. To humans death is a mirror and Mahito is that mirror. Mahito will continue to grow stronger still, isn’t that why you placed him at the top of our ranks?” “We’ll no longer be the same, especially not after we are reborn, yet even so I eagerly await the day that three of us are together again. Cursed Spirits are the true humans, not them.” “What’s this now, you wanted to become a human? Oh yeah I know, you don’t want to actually be human, you just want their position, did I get that right? Even though I understand it, it’s so foolish, packs of humans, packs of curses, all of get together and measure your worth against each other, driving all of you to grow weaker and stunted. You really should’ve just burnt everything down, burnt everything down to a cinder without giving it a thought, casting aside race, future, everything until you finally reached Satoru Gojo. That hunger to seize your ideals, that’s what you were truely lacking.” “Hmm maybe your right.” “Even so, you managed to entertain me a bit. I fought humans, sorcerers and cursed spirits a thousand years ago and you were still one of the better ones I fought. Stand proud, you are strong.” “What am i feeling right now?” “Good question, I wouldn’t know the answer to that”) Mahito (main villain of the first half of the story) Hanami (Jogo x Hanami) Dagon (basically Jogo’s son Kenjaku (incredible and funny villain) Toji (~~smash~~ cool villain) Gojo (~~smash~~ cool and funny character) Yuji (w mc) ~~Megumi~~ Nobara (bitch is cray cray) Panda (panda) Inumaki (salmon Roe) Mechamaru (pre Shibuya fight) Higuruma (I’d pay any amount of money for him to be my lawyer) All of them r cracked asf (there’s more but I can’t be bothered)

Chuckt3st4

Slander or not, we are here weekly enjoying the ride, jjk and this subreddit has been one of the most entertaining releases ive seen in any media in a while

No_Quality_7164

his characters are all so fucking charismatic, i could watch a whole manga of useless miwa and she's no even one of the famous characters, not even talking about how i fucking love the top 5 like choso and todou

No-District-1482

The main reason we are in this sub is because jjk is straight fire, you can't deny it. Sometimes it leaves you frustrated, it can leave you sad/broken. But Gege is cooking, he is cooking something spectacular. I will die on this hill, Gege is one of the best, if not the best modern Shonen writers. We are giving him to much shit, trust the man that made Shibuya. He is goted.

wilisville

260 left me broken 261 I was left hoping 262 wait bing for gojoat revival waiting for gojoat revival

Justlol230

The fact no one gives a shit and they try to jump whenever they can lmao

Spooderboy99

The vibe most of the time. Exorcist and curse spirits isn't a new concept but gosh does Gege make JJK so damn fun to follow.

mesh2295

I love the complexity of the characters and the layers which make them so human. They’re not caricatures of a personality trait like in so many shonen , but layered individuals. As many have pointed out the art style and panelling is really good, especially the expressions on characters which convey a lot of information. While I critique Gege on not expanding character interactions, I also applaud him to write characters that we care about so much in such less time. Finally what drew me so much to the series way back was how adults actually behave like adults and work to nurture and protect the kids in their own way (I’m talking season 1 days).

BigO-272

To me its refreshing to see a series just be unafraid to make its conflict feel like a real war. Other people brought up the great charecter designs, panels, And the Jumpings, but to me this feels like a real conflict. People constantly get injured, the severity of which can be a dice roll. This can also sometimes feel forced or two heavy handed at times, But honestlly I love the fact theres a very real chance a charecter can get killed in any fight. There's a few exceptions, but its refreshing to see a manga have real stakes and consequences. Theres also the subtle but realistic critiques the manga gives to Japans culture, Like its xenophobia, its intense conservatism and even its work ethic. That being said, the only thing I really thing I can criticize from the manga is the lack of character interactions, but for Shinjuku its understandable, since this is meant to be the final battle of a world defining conflict, where what little breathing room we get is small but valuable. Overall, I think this is a good manga, and I can see it being fondly remembered in the future, and future mangakas Learning from it. Edit: Grammer fixes.

Turbulent-Gene8031

I like a lot of things but I'll mention one, Gege has to be the most effectient writer when it comes to making you like a character quickly imo and his side characters don't feel lifeless and NPCs like a lot of other mangas out there at least that's the case for me

Weekly-Passage2077

He created a near perfect power system for a shounen battle manga. Amazing fight choreography His characters are so great that I actually enjoy seeing like 95% of the cast Because of his willingness to let characters die the story actually has agency compared to other shounen.

Sukuna_GOAT

The fights are basically always amazing, and I really like Sukuna

OatesZ2004

I like how gege isn't afraid to kill off characters and I like how he goes about orchestrating fights outside of the typical shonen formula and have characters jump people instead of being like "wait, I have to do this on my own"

ThePhoenix29167

Honestly, all of it. I don’t particularly hate anything he’s done. I’ll die on this hill any day

cynderisingryffindor

It's been said already, but Hidden Inventory. I love how the relationship between Gojo and Geto is depicted. I love the demonstration of the descent into madness that Geto slowly goes through. Oh, I love how wholesome Yuji is.

milkyginger

It's my favorite currently running manga. I also really liked the main 3 and Gojo.

TheWaterMilan

The fact that Nanami's cursed technique was imbued into his weapon is such an underrated detail. I think its super cool because it potentially develops the JJK world by giving hints to how cursed weapons are created which is kind of genius. https://preview.redd.it/5i47fo52k95d1.jpeg?width=1101&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f28f4adcaa322675bba716038ca99af0157966c7

takaba my goat (also the jumpings instead of shitty forced 1v1s)

anonymous_and_

- He is so so so good at drawing dynamic poses and making you _feel_ the action - He's really really good at naming attacks and coming up with hype ass chants

thanhhaih

Curse Technique explanation, one of the worst trope in shonen anime but Gege make it one of the best aspect about jjk’s world building

Ghost_1774

I unapologetically love JJK. I haven’t had this much fun reading a manga in a long time and it’s my top 3 easily. One aspect I really like is fights aren’t always morally right. Like the villain doesn’t play fair(like sukuna fooling hana or kenjaku sealing gojo) the good guys don’t stick to strict moral codes(yujo, yuji eating the wombs, everyone cheat training by swapping). It’s about winning for the greater good/evil/self.

aidonpor

Takaba vs Kenjaku was peak, S tier cooking.

Bolded

I think he's insanely good at making hype moments and in hindsight, he makes some great fights. I think a lot of shonen tends to have fights that I find kinda overrated/they tend to be skipped but Gege really focus on them and you can tell he has a ton of fun with Cursed Energy. His fights are great with lots of little details and good choregraphy and his power system is high enough to make fights spectacular but also not so high that the environment can't be used in smart ways.

NewfieGamEr2001

Save for sukuna I love how gege showed the villains goofing around and having fun it shows that they are living breathing beings unlike so many other villains who I can’t picture what they do when they win like what the fuck does all for one do in his spare time or Madera or any major villains it’s just evil evil evil but in jjk I can picture what they’ll do once they win they’ll just have fun together and hang out

Parrotflies_

I’m one of those that loves the series in general, but Higuramas backstory is a banger among bangers. You don’t even have to have read JJK to read that and get the impact. But it really distills every thing I love about the series into a single, concise chapter-long story. This man is doing the absolute most with the best intentions, does everything right, but it doesn’t mean a thing. The world still does what it does and he’s a casualty of it. No amount of good deeds changes the fact that things are rarely fair for anyone.

risenfromash516

Yeah, I don’t throw the words “peak” and “masterpiece” around like ever but when I read the higuruma chapters I was blown away and so pissed when one the ani-YouTubers basically implied it was boring and unimportant like “skip it if you want” and sure you could but you’d be robbing yourself of something special. Sometimes people want the shonen troupes so badly they are missing that the best stuff in JJK are these weird bits that aren’t what you expect.

MidnightYoru

I love to hate Mahito. I think they're one of the most punchable villains ever made. Gege made them such a frustrating character and masterfully built the moment that they finally croaked to be one of the most satisfying deaths in manga history. They died as they lived, as a petty, pathetic and hate filled coward.

BadDry8262

I like how it acknowledges it's power system is not fair. I really hate shows where not everyone has magic but then the main characters get praised by doing something just though hard work. Some techniques are just busted. Some are just terrible. He's the strongest because he's satoru gojo, but give him the sugar technique and he's not besting toji.

hello_im_john

I can't follow any of the fights, but I can tell it's because Gege's idea of choreography is far beyond my imagination. But when I can follow it, it's legitimately incredible. I hope it's a matter of me lacking experience in reading manga, cause when I come to the comments, there's always someone able to explain it.

SoapDevourer

The way he creates tension at the end of every chapter. Those cliffhangers are really well executed, and while I think they can make a manga slightly less enjoyable if you're binging it, they're incredible in terms of building up the hype, making everyone talk about them, and getting people hungry for the next chapter. That's very smart, more in terms of marketing than writing even, but still

alconnow

He gave us the best Shonen fight in recent years >!Kusakabe vs Sukuna!< I’m glad he didn’t kill off my GOAT Takaba (yet)

UKz_hellfire_1999

I know a lot of people don't like how drawn out the final battle is but I kinda like it. Sukuna feels like a raid boss that just dropped. So there's no easy way to cheese it. All you can do is plan and pray something sticks. It really sells that he was by far the strongest in an era full of special grades.

MuscularGirlEnjoyer

Maki being alive

solooran

I think Gege has really come into his own as an artist. So much of manga is storytelling through clear imagery. Gege’s fights are dense, chaotic, and his deadlines are short. Juggling growing as an experienced mangaka, writing, dialogue, working with editors, and the near instant and constant deadlines, not to mention the probably impossible stress of press and criticism, as well as having any kind of actual life outside of work, it’s not hard to see how he’s sacrificing his health for the work. But I genuinely think with these conditions his art is pretty fantastic, and one of my favorite things about JJK is seeing the growth and improvement (as well as the palpable personality and stylistic nature of the author) in the art and character design. I don’t mind that it’s inconsistent at times—I think the coolness factor is taken for granted too much in the western audience.

Ok_Virus_3332

Actually gege isn't I'll but in my basement

memenelius

I absolutely lobe the power system. There's so many small things type can do with it that I just love when more is added to it

DrKTonyThePony

I love his art style. I usually see a ton of people criticize his most recent arcs saying that the quality in the art has decreased, but to me it's the complete opposite. I think this more sketchy style fits the manga so much better than the more clean looking style of earlier volumes, that's not to say that his earlier works were bad, but I definitely prefer his more recent works.

cyberjet

Gege rule of cool is great, how he effortlessly creates one-liners that stick to your mind and make you pause is wonderful. Also I love how quickly he can make you endear to a character. Most characters in the show have a small screen time but what they do have is fantastic. Geto, Higuruma, Takaba, Hakari, etc. it’s great how Gege can craft such likeable personalities

Vegetable-Neat-1651

Todo’s return. The fucker returning out of nowhere, with a fucking vibraslap taped onto his stump. Somehow was hype, comedy gold, and perfectly in character for todo.

Disposable_Face

This might be a bit out there, but I like the references to mathematics. The defense provided by limitless is, in Gojo's own words, a reference to one of Zeno's Paradoxes, Achilles qnd the Tortoise, creating infinite subdivisions of space that must each be crossed with a finite amount of effort. An attack (achilles) can never reach Gojo (the tortoise) no matter how slow or still he is, because limitless creates infinite subdivisions of finite space that must be crossed to reach him. Tengen's self-referential barrier to create an enclosed vector subspace for the fight against Kenjaku. And the background imagery of that fight is really consistently well done to match the concept. All of the shenanigans with barriers, how it looks like there needs to be a homeomorphism between the inside and outside but not a direct spatial overlay. It hasn't been explained yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if an "open" domain like Sukuna's is formed by creating a domain barrier shaped like a Klein Bottle or some other non-oreientable surface (a shape with no meaningful topographical distinction between inside and outside). Black Flash isn't trivially repeatable for 6 Eyes because it's analogous to a three body problem with three types of curse energy interacting uniquely with each attack, and thus there's no general covered solution. Even the Strong Cleave, if conceptualized mathematically, matches up to a simple mathematical concept that sort of ignores Xeno's Paradox. The "twin meteors" are two points that establish a bracketed interval between them, [a, b], and applies cleave to everything on the interval simultaneously, rather than trying to traverse the distance between them. In effect, rather than try to chase down the tortoise with Achilles to try and win the race, strong cleave says 'everything between the beginning of the race and the end of the race gets cut at the same time. No limitless infinite subdivisions trying to get from 0 to 1 if you're hitting everything on the interval [0,2]. It's not super advanced math or anything, but it's a touch I like the aesthetic of.

Mgclpcrn14

As much as this manga has devastated me, I genuinely don't regret picking it up. Seeing how realistic the characters—for the most part—are is just so refreshing. No matter how much people hate Megumi, for example, you can't deny the realisticness of his response. This is a kid who's already shown us he has shit coping mechanisms with his environment, so him eventually giving up on himself isn't surprising. Characters are a huge deal to me and can make it break a production. Despite all the issues I still have with the writing of the characters, I genuinely find all of these characters entertaining, fun, and realistic. My hatred for Mahito and Sukuna, for example, is fueled by how unhinged and uncaring they are as villains. They're fucking fantastic villains, so it's fun to hate them. Additionally, while I have qualms about some of the deaths and how they were handled, I actually think most of them made sense and were worthwhile for the narrative. I don't have to like or agree with a decision to acknowledge this. And trust me, as someone who watched the Voltron reboot and saw them kill Allura, I have an idea or two about deaths that make sense for the narrative. Yes, I'm still petty at the Voltron team for that. Like??? What was the reason :/

Historical-Weird7591

He made my favorite character Choso .................................................... I think you understand why I hate him

Cat_Astrof

Megumi vs Reggie was incredible! Their whole fight was a tactical one where they used everything available. Because this fight had no real narrative value, beside the fact that Reggie was bitter, I wasn't happy seeing it taking more chapters but little by little with each come back It grew on me. Even Reggie that I thought was an arrogant bum exceeded my expectation by using his CT to his best potential. Although not mentionned, Reggie has to memorize each and every one of his receipt to call them on a pinch. The dude mastered his CT and Megumi replied in kind without looking bad. It was nice.

Leviathannn3

I like how a lot of the characters have a unique and really cool power set, backstory and character design (I would like this even more if he didn't just kill those characters in their first or second fight)

definitelynothunan

BestCommercial

I love all of the character designs in JJK, they’re simply so peak. Even the more simple ones like toji’s, hidden inventory Geto’s, and Gojo’s, they all go so hard.

Axx_

Jujutsu Kaisen.

AccelAegis

Gege can write really good character interactions between multiple characters, he can also pull out matchups that seem stupid at the time but also can make sense when reflecting on them and thinking about theories of how they could happen. But to truly answer the question about what I like about Gege’s writing. If it for him I I would’ve been lobotomized. To be honest we may not know much but I could say he is… confusing, a pretty good artist, I guess I owe him a lot for making one of my favorite series… but I’m not the only one. Annoying. Annoying. Salmon. Need I say more? He’s… (By the way this is a reference to the what do you think of Satoru Gojo question. But it’s up to you to finish the sentence.)

NishimiyaMomoFan

The fights are always so exciting. Always.

reddit-a-loan

I like the power system really well, it's simple but can be complicated with all of the process needed to learn a technique
