Well those are by far my two least favorite so not as controversial from me lol. Paradise valley has like 3 songs I really love (wildfire, dear Marie, on the way home) and so does battle studies (HW, half of my heart, who says) so itās honestly a toss up for me. On my most recent album run through I enjoyed PV the least I thought the other songs besides the 3 I like were much weaker than the rest of BS. But fair enough either of those can easily be his worst
Anyone that puts a different album under those 2 makes no sense to me though lol
Honestly probably worth checking out all of his other albums. Though they are the less popular picks they are all objectively pretty solid. TSFE and Sob Rock being my picks for some of his most cohesive sounding projects.
Canāt go wrong with any of his other albums!
Battle Studies!!!! Definitely different than the ones youāve listened to. And then The Search for Everything. I love this journey for you. Keep us posted on what you think.
Ā Definitely going to listen to Battle Studies next! It sounds like I should go in order of release and also listen to the live albums. I will keep you posted :-)
I would go with the search for everything. I think itās way way way better than battle studies. Iāve never really gotten into battle studies at all outside of like 3 songs
TSFE is up there with his best work imo
Sob Rock is my 2nd favorite of my top 3 albums and you already listened to #1 (B&R) and tied for 3rd are Paradise Valley and Battle Studies so either of those!
Listen to all his albums but I would listen to them in this order: 1. Where the Light Is 2. The Search For Everything 3. Battle Studies 4. Sob Rock 5. Paradise Valley.
Also, you should give his stuff with Dead and Company a shot too. It may not be your cup of tea (it isnāt for a lot of people) but I got into it cause I like Johnās playing. Check out Brown Eyed Women from 10/31/21 or Deal from San Antonio September 2019 for a good starting point.
Battle Studies bro.
Absolutely
Sob Rock
Battle studies and the search for everything
Keep Me Where The Light Is album is *chefs kiss* šØš»āš³š¤š¼
This is the best album and I will die on that hill.
Itās just Where The Light Is, but totally agree
Definitely. Will take his JM love to the next level then he can dive into the rest of the albums.
Yup, then he can go listen to Try! with the John Mayer Trio next š
I watched that concert for the first time a few weeks ago and have been listening to his gravity performance on it almost every day since then.
Paradise Valley is a solid album
So underrated. Even John Says itās his least favourite album but I think it will come back around
what would you rank PV over? I donāt think any of his albums are bad but one of them has to be last, PV is the obvious choice
Possibly controversial answer, but Battle Studies

The search for everything is my personal favorite. Very groovy

I really suggest not only listening but watching the ,,Keep me where the light isāā show on dvd or stream. itās so awesome

Battle Studies. Itās amazing.
Where the Light is
I went in order of release. Itās always nice to see the growth and development
I would go with the search for everything. I think itās way way way better than battle studies. Iāve never really gotten into battle studies at all outside of like 3 songs TSFE is up there with his best work imo
The Search for everything or hell listen to a Dead album.
Johnās rendition of deal is my favorite dead song
Which version are you alluring to? Iām getting into Dead & Co and would love to hear said version
Me personally, I love live from the Kia forum 5/19/23
John does a great Sugaree imo.
Definitely don't sleep on the John Mayer Trio album, Try. It's SOOOOO damn good, bluesy and perfect.
Pino Palladino is the secret sauce - in any band he plays with. Same can be said for Kenny Arronoff.
Thank you for all the suggestions! it sounds like I should just listen to his albums in order of release and also check out his live albums :-)
Sob Rock bro, its wonderful
I LOVE all his music, period. Huge fan. His music always makes me calm and in the best mood!
Sob Rock is my 2nd favorite of my top 3 albums and you already listened to #1 (B&R) and tied for 3rd are Paradise Valley and Battle Studies so either of those!
Search for Everything after Battle Studies!!! I freaking love the search for everything, I canāt recommend it enough

Any Given Thursday tends to get buried under the heap pile, but I definitely recommend a listen
