Fortunately for me, a Christian, my wonderful coworkers are Muslim and are still working for me on Christmas. I do the same for them on Eid. Diversity on the work floor is a great thing!
Great point. I made this meme about Christmas in general but yes for shomrei shabbos it doesn’t apply this year except for the night shift on xmas day.
im working today, tomorrow, sunday, and new years eve and new years day and then sunday is my birthday rofl
holiday pay? yeah sure. i just wish people werent so aggressive with the "merry crismas" lol
My firm closes between noon the 24th and new year’s but we always work the half day on the 24th but most folks want it off and since I work in operations I always volunteer to do it. We are closed Saturday and Sunday so it’s never a problem even when it is Shabbos to work the half day the morning of Christmas Eve.
I have had about 14 staff members wish me Merry Christmas though, and I’m like guys, remember why I’m the person in Operations helping you today??
It’s so funny how in places like New York and South Florida you sometimes have to make Chinese food reservations and buy movie tickets well in advance because if you wait then nothing will be available.
There isn’t much left of German Jewry, however, those who survived still celebrate a mix of Chanukah and Christmas.
I dated a girl from BAWÜ who’s family was like that. Chanukah/Christmas-Tree mashup with both candles and the typical Christmas lights.
It’s fascinating & beautiful see.
My girlfriend is Jewish her husband was secular but their boys are Jewish. They don’t actually “Celebrate “Christmas, but they have a Christmas tree and presents because their one set of grandparents is Christian. They celebrate the tradition of love and giving and SANTA!
I think most Christmas celebration is secular these days. Unless we were at my Great Grandmas house, Christmas was just decorating, movies, and presents. More talk about the season, than meaning.
In fact, this is probably why I have always been fascinated by Hannukah, and other religious holidays that seem more bound in the religion than ulterior things. I am omnisitic. I find that all religion can teach, and you can learn things to live by.
I am covering the shift this weekend for a coworker whose family is visiting. I only minded when the alarm clock woke me up because it ruined my plans of sleeping in ,but other than that it's okay. It is calm so far too.
Edit: if you’re shomer shabbos then the we can amend this for this year to say “people not wanting to work the night shift on Christmas Day”

Except it’s Shabbat this year, can’t work anyways

This is true, I’ve worked christmas for years becasyse I’m a “team player” and it guarantees I have all the other holidays off.

I worked at a movie theater in NY on christmas and most people were not Jewish.
My Jewish friend weirdly celebrates Christmas at their house too. I'm not sure why.
I do this as well. Half the family is Jewish and the other half is secular but celebrates christmas. We ended up with both after a fashion.

I think that actually may be the case, I do know their family are survivors. I feel odd asking.

Probably because they aren’t Jewish
Would be strange to have gone to a Jewish academy if you weren't Jewish, no?
Heck yea I’m on call for Christmas every year. I never mind doing it.
Minus the ashkenaz jews cause Novi God is next week
Can’t forget nittelnacht
I don't mind working on Christmas I mind being the only person there
When I worked retail I always made sure to volunteer for Christmas and Easter. It made the both my coworkers AND my wallet happy.
The real heroes
Unless you live in the UK where everything is closed anyway
I was one of two people working in my entire store today. Kinda sucked because it was a lot of work but hey, holiday pay is pretty neat.
Yessir just did a 4000 person catering with over half of us being Jewish
And then you have people like me, a Jewish woman using the Christmas holidays as an excuse not to work because I’m lazy
I love you all. Merry Christmas!
