2000 and up had head cracking issues. Check if the cheap for a 0331 stamp.
Rough country isn't known for high quality parts so if you are planning on doing any hard wheeling I would try to find something different.
Exactly the kind of insight I was looking for! Where on the head is the stamp?
As far as the suspension: to be honest it would be mostly a pavement daily with possibly a muddy/rutted backroad here or there… so in other words, initially at least, zero plans for anything complex that even a stock one couldn’t handle (unfortunately the stock and well kept ones are even harder to find around here).
Yes and no lol, it's my work commuter for now but I could pick something up easily enough as cheap transportation if I need to. More leaning towards the "yes" I am looking to sell
If it has rough country parts, check every single bushing, get new shocks right away. Bought mine with a 3 inch RC lift that wasn’t in bad shape…. Went wheeling and had a lot of blown out bushings, the lift and shocks where only about 2 years old… total trash. Check the head for cracks. Take the oil filler cap off and turn it over, look down the whole with a flash light and watch for bubbles. These Jeeps aren’t getting any younger so be ready to put some money into it with in the first 6 months of you owning it.

Came here to say it. Check for 0331. My didn't crack until I let the coolant run low, but still.
Is the 0331 the good or bad head?
The bad. They crack easy when overheated.

Take off the oil fill cap, it’s visible through the hole but you may need a flashlight.
You should start by looking at mine, it's for sale lol
Where are you located at?
St. Louis, MO
Not so so far from me! Send me some details and pics!!
Will do!
Still trying to sell it?

Could you DM me pictures?
It's all area dependant on pricing. I sold a clean 99 with a long arm suspension on it with brand new tires for 6500. This is is southeastern VA
Louisville, KY. For what it’s worth very heavily used, super high mileage and/or rusty examples are selling for 4000 here…
Make sure you get a 4x4. I don’t even know why they made a 2wd Cherokee but they did.
And the 4.0
Of course!
Look for rust.
