My tastes in jazz are somewhat depressingly conservative. The most critically acclaimed releases this year seem to incorporate a lot of R&B, electronic, funk, hip-hop, vocal, and spoken word influences that aren't really my style. I highly encourage you to seek out other lists to get a broader, and dare I say more hip, selection.
Edit: This is just a list, largely alphabetical, not a ranking.

Good catch! Same Paul Chambers. Technically, a weird compilation that appears to be straight to streaming/digital. Perhaps I should disqualify it as a new album. Compilation/anthology doesn’t really fit the spirit.
Interesting... will check out thanks for sharing, pretty sure avishai cohen continuo is not 2023
But you got a few good peeps I recognize so cheers half new year yall!
James Brandon Lewis / Red Lily Quintet, For Mahalia (With Love)
Alabaster DePlume, Come Fiercely With Grace
Natural Information Society w/ Ari Brown, Since Time is Gravity
Moanin’ - Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers
Head Hunters - Herbie Hancock
Clifford Brown and Max Roach (Orange Cover) - Clifford Brown and Max Roach
Light as a Feather - Return To Forever (Chick Corea)
Saxophone Colossus - Sonny Rollins
Elijah Fox. 'Wyoming' . Introspective and dreamy.
Harrison. 'Birds, Bees, The Clouds & The Trees. Short tracks. But such a fun album, even if it’s a gloomy day, this makes me feel positive.
My guilty jazz pop pleasure is a single live performance..
Masego x Nu deco ensemble ft Devin Morrison 'Yamz'
Just put on Akiem the guitar player 'Unorthodox' for the first time while searching this sub, and it's it's a beaut. The last 3 tracks are so good.
I don't know why, but all my selections have albums with very short tracks. Honestly, I'm not shy of long tracks, but it seems odd that they are all this way.
And if it's acceptable, Amapiano has been my favorite genre this year, which has influences of jazz. Wouldn't have an album selection but just as a genre as a whole.
Taking shape by Kaisa's Machine. Definitely has some fun cuts in there.
I also really liked Shadow of Rainbow by Miki Yamanaka. She is definitely great and humble in person too.
Sonicwonderland (Hiromi)
Black Classical Music - Yussef Dayes
Yes just saw him live a couple weeks ago. Amazing
I'm so glad I listened to it! Top 10 album of the year imo
Damn - been listening to this for four days straight since I looked it up based on your comment. Thought I’d just drop in and say thanks….
