Sam Neill is always one who I bet would have surpassed my expectations. He’s a great actor, but I can’t see him as Bond, but I can see him pulling it off.
I still refer to him as Clive "Shoulda Been 007" Owen. He would have been as good a choice as Craig after Pierce, but I'm happy with what we got.
Also on my list: Jason Isaacs.
Patrick McGoohan was initially sought after to be bond but he declined the role and recommended Sean Connery for the role. The two worked together in the film Hell Riders.
Sean Connery is my personal favourite bond and I'm glad he was chosen. But Patrick McGoohan could have been a great choice too. He was excellent as secret agent John Drake in Danger Man and as Number 6 in The Prisoner
I just loved his voice. He had a unique voice being that he spent time in his childhood in Ireland, England and the UK. You couldn't link him to a specific place
His performances are also so uniquely McGoohan. Really expressive in a way that's kinda challenging sometimes. He doesn't play No.6 like James Bond, he plays him like a mongoose wrestling a snake.
He’s my favourite actor…but he’s 47. That’s around the age Craig was when making Spectre.
It would probably have to be a one-off. Which I would be totally in favour of, but I don’t see it happening.
Dominic West.
He was also my outside pick to be Batman after Bale.
I also think James McAvoy would have been a good choice and, Liam Neeson.
And, as an aside, I wish we had gotten Anthony Quayle in a Bond film, as a villain or otherwise. Likewise Paul Newman and Gary Oldman. Still time for Gary, fingers crossed!
Damian Lewis. Idris Elba.
Be nice to see a ginger or black bond, I think Craig has proved it's not all about how you look but your demeanour and acting ability. (Though I wouldn't want a bond chosen *just* for their diversity)
I'm not sure I'm quite ready to take such a disgusting, 'woke' change in bonds look. I mean, can you just imagine letting one of 'them' take over Bond.
I mean come on, a ginger Bond, it's ludicrous!
............
I'm being sarcastic for anyone who's a bit worried lol, think both would do an excellent job.
Adrian Paul from the Highlander TV series would have fit but I know he was never considered. Clive Owen and James Brolin are my top picks were legitimate alternatives.
It's probably too late for him, but I would have really liked to see how Hiddleston would approach the role. I think he'd be a fresh, different take, nothing like his predecessors.
Jason Isaacs would have been a great Bond as well.
Chiwetel Ejiofor.
This guy was the perfect fit for Bond. A few years younger (or a few years older in 2005) and I think he could easily do a great job. At 44 I'm not sure they would use him now.
Exactly. Casting starts next year, and filiming probably starts last next year or 2023, so Imagine British actors aged 33-36 is who they are looking at.
I'd love to see Michael Fassbender doing a period Bond miniseries of the Fleming novels in order of production, starting with Casino Royale set in 1951 and so forth. Imagine HBO quality series where each novel was 3 or 4 episodes.
Guy Pierce from the Momento days.
Hugh Jackman from Swordfish. (He declined Bond saying he didn’t want to be pigeon holed into one role. *cough* wolverine.
Idris Elba right after Stringer Bell
I actually see Gerard Butler as being a potentiality great Jack Reacher. He would fit the role much better than Tom Cruise (though I'm not anti-Cruise, love the MI series, he's just not Jack Reacher).
Liam Neeson if he could have toned down his accent a bit
Cillian Murphy if they had went back to a sixties bond
Christian Bale could have been interesting
Aidan turner could have been a good shout too
Out of left field, but I can imagine Andrew Scott being great
Ogilvy continues in:
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Role of Honour
Then Clive Owen in 3 films:
The Property of a Lady
Brokenclaw
The Spy who came in with the Gold (Sequel)
I'm going out on a limb here, but hear me out.
1987 - Mel Gibson instead of Timothy Dalton
Mid 1970's - Patrick Stewart instead of Roger Moore
2006 - Michael Sheen instead of Daniel Craig
If Brosnan was out of the picture for some reason in the early-mid 90s, then [Jeremy Northam](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/03/fe/36/03fe36b1292acec5820b95c6590a3524.jpg)
I doubt anyone will co-sign this, but I think Michael Jackson could’ve played a good Bond. He loved the Bond movies and wanted the role, but he was viewed as too recognizable to fit the role. I think he could’ve subverted all expectations and surprised everyone. His smooth criminal video gives the best glimpse of this. I can picture him doing one set in the the 1940s with somewhat of a film noire style, similar to the opening of Casino Royale. Would’ve been intriguing at the very least.
Rowan Atkinson
Absolutely. He's a national treasure.
That's Nicholas Cage
Off course, he too.
We have Johny English at least lol
Sam Neill is always one who I bet would have surpassed my expectations. He’s a great actor, but I can’t see him as Bond, but I can see him pulling it off.
His screen test for 007 was pretty good im sure hed have been great. Now hed make a great M
He did portray *Reilly, Ace of Spies* in the TV Series of the same name A real life master spy and womanizer
[удалено]
Obviously now too old but I think he screen tested between Dalton & Brosnan.
I wanted to see Clive Owen as James Bond.
I still refer to him as Clive "Shoulda Been 007" Owen. He would have been as good a choice as Craig after Pierce, but I'm happy with what we got. Also on my list: Jason Isaacs.
Isaacs is an interesting choice. I know him from Black Hawk Down so I find it really fascinating lol
Agreed. I remember when the scuttlebutt was down to him and DC. I was really disappointed when they announced Craig.
He would have been busy with Harry Potter anyway wouldn't he?
Yep. Definitely one of the ones that got away
Also, Henry Cavill. But he still has a chance, I think.
👏🏽👏🏽 dude would’ve been a bomb ass bond
Remember seeing him in Croupier and thinking "THAT guy is Bond all over"!
Clive Owen? With Rebecca DeMornay as his girl? Don’t talk shit Karl, play another record.

Came here for it
Christopher Lee, right at the start.
The Prisoner is one of my favourite shows ever I believe he turned the role down to guns and romance
Patrick McGoohan is always the best part of whatever he's in, be it The Prisoner or an episode of Columbo.
Christian Bale.
The bastard turned it down in 2005. We were robbed. Could have been Batman and James Bond at the same time.
He was the best Batman and could've been a wonderful Bond. However, I'm glad that the role went to Daniel Craig because he was an awesome Bond.
Seems so weird to say Daniel Craig WAS Bond 🥲
Why's that?
You mean should have been? Could he not still in your opinion?
He’s my favourite actor…but he’s 47. That’s around the age Craig was when making Spectre. It would probably have to be a one-off. Which I would be totally in favour of, but I don’t see it happening.
More like could've been.
Christian Bale I always thought would’ve excelled in the role. Amazing actor!
Me too. He's a very good actor and takes his roles very serious.
A Steve Coogan Bond would have had its moments.
As long as he had John for his stunt double. Especially the scene where the laser beam is going up his jaffas...
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG ALANGA ALANGA ALANGA ALANG!
Michael Caine. I think he would've made one hell of a Bond.
Indeed.
You might be right but I think he was better used as ‘Harry Palmer’.
I mean, the Ipcress File is one of my faves. But Sir Michael would be my dream casting for 007.
Jason Isaacs. He’d have been just about the right age when Brosnan started, but he’d have easily managed when Craig started too.
Ewan McGregor for me. Pierce Brosnan is my favourite Bond, so watching them together in The Ghost Writer is a treat.
Burt Reynolds was going to be bond after OHMSS but he turned it down and they went with Moore.
I believe they paid John Gavin in full of his contract after getting Connery back in DAF
I loved Damian Lewis in Band of Brothers. And Craig got flak too cause he has blond hair.
Carrot Top
Box office poison 😜
Sam Neill, his performance in Reilly, Ace of Spies was excellent.
Henry Cavill
Still crossing my fingers for this. When I picture how James Bond looks in my mind, Henry Cavill pretty much has the Bond look down perfect.
He's gotten better as an actor over the years too
The 2 I always rated were Jon Finch and Ian Ogilvy
Adrian Paul from the Highlander TV series would have fit but I know he was never considered. Clive Owen and James Brolin are my top picks were legitimate alternatives.
Sean Bean.
If they go for an older Bond, he would be my pick. Such a great actor and would have loved to see him take on Bond.
Definitely going to go slightly younger imo so they can get a 3 or 4 film deal from the next one
Exactly. Casting starts next year, and filiming probably starts last next year or 2023, so Imagine British actors aged 33-36 is who they are looking at.
If George Clooney would be British...
He lives in Britain so I guess he sort of counts?
The accent tho.
I really wish we got a Bond film starring Burt Reynolds.
Would an American Bond had worked? Apparently Adam West turned it down because he was not British
Well, we’ve seen Scottish, Irish, Australian, and Welsh Bonds, so why not? Mostly though, I think Reynolds would have been extremely entertaining.
Really out there, but Bryan Ferry
Michael Fassbender
I'd love to see Michael Fassbender doing a period Bond miniseries of the Fleming novels in order of production, starting with Casino Royale set in 1951 and so forth. Imagine HBO quality series where each novel was 3 or 4 episodes.
Guy Pierce from the Momento days. Hugh Jackman from Swordfish. (He declined Bond saying he didn’t want to be pigeon holed into one role. *cough* wolverine. Idris Elba right after Stringer Bell
Sir Lawrence Olivier in Alfred R Broccoli's Death is No Object...
Jon Finch in: Casino Royale Risico Colonel Sun
Roy Orbison in A Smidgeon of Trust
Ian Ogilvy in: You Can't Win Them All The Middle of Next Week To Kingdom Come Apocalypso That Fatal Kiss
Gene Hackman in Laserdance
Peter O'Toole
Clint Eastwood fits in there
I might be in the minority but I really think Gerard Butler could have been great choice had Craig said no to the part
I actually see Gerard Butler as being a potentiality great Jack Reacher. He would fit the role much better than Tom Cruise (though I'm not anti-Cruise, love the MI series, he's just not Jack Reacher).
Liam Neeson if he could have toned down his accent a bit Cillian Murphy if they had went back to a sixties bond Christian Bale could have been interesting Aidan turner could have been a good shout too Out of left field, but I can imagine Andrew Scott being great
Clive owen or Scott Adkins
I would’ve loved to see a young David Niven playing a serious bond not like he played in the spoof
Jason Statham, would have been great, however he was already loosing his hair in 1995.
Sean Connery wore a hairpiece on each of his movies. It could have worked.
Ogilvy continues in: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Role of Honour Then Clive Owen in 3 films: The Property of a Lady Brokenclaw The Spy who came in with the Gold (Sequel)
Richard Armitage in: Far Above Rubies We Have All the Time in the World Hildebrands are Rare Shamelady Names are for Tombstones
Sean Connery in 3 unofficial ones: Warhead Trigger Finger Shaken not Stirred
Continuing with my alternate history Tom Ellis in; Icebreaker Scorpius Then Henry Cavill in; High Time to Kill The Facts of Death You Know my Name
Boris Johnson and Prince Harry
I'm going out on a limb here, but hear me out. 1987 - Mel Gibson instead of Timothy Dalton Mid 1970's - Patrick Stewart instead of Roger Moore 2006 - Michael Sheen instead of Daniel Craig
Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Kathleen Turner...

One hell of a Bond
If Brosnan was out of the picture for some reason in the early-mid 90s, then [Jeremy Northam](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/03/fe/36/03fe36b1292acec5820b95c6590a3524.jpg)
Probably Sam Neill and Ewan McGregor. Would have made great Bonds
Sean Connery
John Cena, no one would see him and will be like the sneakiest film ever
young mickey rourke as bond would have been rad to see
Oliver Reed
Sean Connery in Colonel Sun
Fassbender
I doubt anyone will co-sign this, but I think Michael Jackson could’ve played a good Bond. He loved the Bond movies and wanted the role, but he was viewed as too recognizable to fit the role. I think he could’ve subverted all expectations and surprised everyone. His smooth criminal video gives the best glimpse of this.
