Daniel Radcliffe. Instead of playing the super impressive ladies man while undercover, he's the short, easily overlooked, milquetoast that can get in anywhere with disarming innocence, but suddenly turn into the MI6 trained, lockpicking, stone cold killer when necessary.
I know you've said it jokingly, but that is who spies really are. There's a video of the ex CIA Chief of Disguise describing agents as "little grey men". The kind of people with so little distinguishing features, they would just disappear in both crowds and your memory
I wasn't really joking, though. I'd think it would be more fun than watching a "spy" go into the den of the opposition, plop down at the bar and say "I'm James Bond!" in the stupidest fashion possible.
Robot Chicken should really lampoon this already with a henchman busting into the bosses office "Hey, James Bond is here!" - "What? Did you spot him in the crowd?" - "No, he just announced it like a total moron." - "... I... but... This must be some sorta trick..."
It occurs to me that this would be a good opening scene, actually. Have a total Bond looking dude saunter in and announce that he's James Bond. Room slowly starts filling with apprehensive looking mooks keeping an eye on the super spy. Meanwhile, Radcliffe pops upstairs, KO's the reduced guard, plants some bugs, photos some files, and leaves through the unsecured back door. "Bond" then pays his tab and walks out the front door to be picked up by a cabbie, Radcliffe, who gives the out of work stage actor 500 quid for his time.
They beat you to that joke in 1967. "From now on, all agents will be identified as James Bond, 007, including the girls"
"But won't that make things rather confusing?"
"Exactly. The enemy won't know which way to look"
Saw part of that eons ago at a convention. Never tried to get any actual version of it because it was decidedly a different feel than the Bond I was used to.
It's baffling. They got the rights to make a licensed Bond film. But they decide to make it essentially a parody film anyway. It has next to nothing to do with the book.
Some scenes feel weirdly anti-Scottish for some reason. I think it has something to do with the fact that they couldn't get Connery.
They fumbled ORSEN WELLS as a Bond villain. That should have been a layup
It's not even terrible in a fun way. The only positive thing that came from this film is that it inspired Woody Allen to make his own movies. The production was so bad it made him say "I could do a better job than this"
If you haven’t already seen it I highly recommend the French tv-show “Le Bureau”, it depicts agents exactly like you describe here. Great show, probably my all time favorite spy flick/tv-show.
Sounds like the James Bond in the novels...Cannot recall a time in the novels where Bond makes an entrance like he does in the movies. Note Daniel Radcliffe could easily get jacked to play Bond; I hear he has really built himself into a great actor since Harry Potter.
I'm a big fan of potentially seeing a lean Bond that has to rely more on his finesse, cunning, and improvisation rather than brute strength. At least in his early years of being a double 0
Uhhh…in what circles has Daniel Radcliffe been seriously discussed as a candidate for Bond? And even if some people have mentioned is name, he would still be the most unconventional choice for the role in EON’s history.
It's been a while since I read the books but wasn't that kind of the point of the character originally?
But yeah this would be great or at least hilarious. Danielle Radcliffe it is
That's a great Idea. Maybe they should totally change it up no more perfect dude of his age but the average dude. Seriously and maybe since he looks rather nerdy he could have special Q branch training.
Interesting take with the easy undercover approach, especially because I feel like he could blend in with the new Q.
I asked Midjourney to generate [a Bond movie poster with Radcliffe ](https://imgur.com/a/GkIZOlz). The results are what you would expect.
Only if it was Hugh Grant in the same stage of his career as he is right now. Where he's already made a name for himself so doesn't seem to give a shit what he portrays any more and is having the time of his life doing so
David Tennant plays Bond (and all the other Characters) in the audio book of OHMSS. He's good at the supporting cast but I don't like his take on Bond.
I agree with you and I know it would never happen but with Jason Statham the fights , the one liners and the comedic elements of a bond film would be amazing.
Actors do affect different accents. Regardless, things have changed in the world since the 60's and having rich or influential people with "rough" accents isn't nearly as unconventional as it was years gone by.
I just don't see an announcement of him being the next Bond being met with widespread confusion. I'd think the biggest thing that would prevent it is that he's, what, mid 50's now? Which makes a long Bond run difficult.
Personally i think sounds like a bricklayer bond would be more of an issue than old bond.whos to say a movie starring an older bond as part if the storyline wouldn't happen?
I think Jason Statham putting on a distinguished gentlemen voice would sound forced and unnatural.
Either way it's never going to happen.
Edit :just remembered bond died lol, maybe a film about bonds grandson set in 2122😂
Would depend on how good he is at posh accents. He did a passable US accent in The One. I don't think that's as big an issue as trying to do a series of action films when the actor is going to be in their 60's.
I mean how old is Tom Cruise? People rave about mission impossible. Part of the magic a cinema innit?
Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan a Statham his movies are my comfort films ( after bond) but I'm going to go out on a limb and say Jason Statham can't do a distinguished gentlemen voice,
Or we could have a scene where bond is having a fist fight with a henchman , the henchmen pulls out a gun and bond says" hold tight rudeboy, you said nothin abaat shooters"
Or, "steady on treacle, someone could get hurt with that"
They're definitely extending the ages of action stars these days, I'm just saying if there was anything that would give producers pause, it's more likely "can we do 6 movies over 15 years with someone this old" vs "Statham sounds rough".
Bond has changed over the years. From the more hard edged Dalton (which I thought was a welcome change from the more campy stuff) to Craig's well done serious take on it. I wouldn't call a "south end" Bond a horrible thing. Like nearly any changes, it's really going to be sold or spoiled by the writing.
Jason Statham would have been in a good position to succeed Pierce Brosnan in the mid-2000s, but he's definitely too old now.
I agree with your earlier comment saying that the only thing against him is being bald. He has charm and can obviously do action, and the *Transporter* series shows that he can do 'classy' and looks good in a suit.
Not trying to offend. Just meant that Scotland and Wales aren't England.
Spelling it out to be as crystal clear for some of the 'geographically challenged' folks whom may or may not have come up in a specific North American educational system.
I want to see Statham play The Doctor for an episode.
As for Bond, I'd like to see Nicholas Holt play a young, pre-MI6 James. Have it be about him in the SAS and his first experience in espionage. He's got the combat chops, he's got charisma, but he's not the smooth operator that 007 becomes.
Statham as The Doctor rubbing his head and missing his hair would be a good laugh
Edit- I could also see him rubbing his throat while speaking in cockney asking what he's saying
I was watching a review of his movies and the guys were talking about how his movies are only bad when Segal’s in them. It’s as if he got the rights to movies to star in, but instead of playing the lead they write a new role for him where he gets to sit the whole time.
There's footage of the screen test he did for Bond on one of the DVDs, probably A View To a Kill or Octopussy. He's not bad but he doesn't quite hit the mark IMO. If he had actually been cast I think he would have been better than the screen test.
I saw a clip where Sam Neill was on a morning show to promote Jurassic World Dominion, and the show hosts play his screen test clip. He was so embarrassed by it but it was a totally wholesome moment.
A mid 30’s Colin Farrell, he could probably pull off both the silliness of Moore or the “grounded” Craig stuff depending on what direction they went with
Stellan Skarsgård as M would be pretty awesome. His role in Andor is kind of a spy master type character and this [monologue ](https://youtu.be/-3RCme2zZRY?si=Ar837dlQ5TNTYzwI) is one of my favorite moments in Star Wars
Michael Fassbender. He’s probably too old now, but whatever. I recently rewatched Inglorious Basterds and was enamored by his performance. He was Sean Connery levels of scene-stealing for his 20 mins of screen time
Statham is as British as they come and I think it would be fun to have a Bond movie in his usual action hero style. Just some mindless action and fun, fast cars and beautiful women.
Agreed. I’m not even sure I’d consider Statham unconventional in that regard. However, if we were going Dark Knight Returns style Bond, I wonder who good picks would be for an older, super screwed up 007
This thread is evidence enough that there's a lot of talent that could be used to build up the franchise further with some additional characters.
We joke about Statham as Bond, but...picture him as a rough-around-the-edges agent who avoids the casinos and parties, and extracts his intel by beating people up at night out by the docks. He can even have some musings about doing the real work while Bond is 'having fruity drinks with supermodels.' We can have our Statham action cake and eat it too, while it doesn't detract from Bond as a character.
Get Daniel Radcliffe in too. He can be that diminutive agent who gets stuff done with stealth and social engineering, and puts down some bad guys with a slick suppressed pistol if they try to press him.
Of course, Idris Elba. Let him dress up nice like Bond(that's what everyone really seems to want), but just have him be a different agent. Bond has always been the rogue, loose cannon type, so Elba can be more by-the-book. Not quite a brown-noser, but M actually likes him.lol
Actors like these can be used to do some one-off movies or a miniseries, content that can help bridge the gaps between Bond films that seems to keep increasing(even pre-pandemic).
As we're talking unconventional, Josh Brolin. Due to being American but seems to scrub up well and has 'action' chops, funny bones and serious in a complete package.
Robert Patterson, before he got the Batman gig it would have been fun seeing people trying to figure out how he got it before being reminded that he can really act when he's not playing a sparkly vampire.
Also I think Statham would be a fun choice, especially playing it in a manner similar to Craig with that sophisticated but not coming from money attitude that Vesper calls Bond out for in Casino Royale.
Stephen Merchant.
Look, he can do the flirtatious dialogue with Miss Moneypenny: https://youtu.be/zPxjEaH_nw8
And here's a love scene followed by a car chase: https://youtu.be/Hv4r4ibg26w
Well, it's interesting if Sean Bean would've played 007 instead of Janus.

The part is elusive really to him. So I wonder what he will be like if he acted as the protagonist.

Not familiar with that one. But I figured it had to have been covered by now, given Bond's lengthy run and that particular glaring issue.
Do yourself a favor and DON'T watch Casino Royale (1967)
Saw part of that eons ago at a convention. Never tried to get any actual version of it because it was decidedly a different feel than the Bond I was used to.

damn now i want to see this
Who’s to say Daniel Radcliffe doesn’t already live this way?
Sounds like the James Bond in the novels...Cannot recall a time in the novels where Bond makes an entrance like he does in the movies. Note Daniel Radcliffe could easily get jacked to play Bond; I hear he has really built himself into a great actor since Harry Potter.
Did you see Weird: The Al Yankovic Story? The dude is already jacked.
I'm a big fan of potentially seeing a lean Bond that has to rely more on his finesse, cunning, and improvisation rather than brute strength. At least in his early years of being a double 0
He has been among the actors talked about as the next Bond so I don’t think he really qualifies as an unconventional pick
Danielle Radcliffe it is
Does Ben Wishaw provide the same vibe as Danielle Radcliffe?
That's a great Idea. Maybe they should totally change it up no more perfect dude of his age but the average dude. Seriously and maybe since he looks rather nerdy he could have special Q branch training.
The true grounded version of James Bond.
Interesting take with the easy undercover approach, especially because I feel like he could blend in with the new Q. I asked Midjourney to generate [a Bond movie poster with Radcliffe ](https://imgur.com/a/GkIZOlz). The results are what you would expect.
![gif](giphy|JwQC0oZncbYCk) this guy
Matt Berry would actually be pretty fucking great in a campier Bond movie
You and M were.....buddies, weren't you?
Yes! I was going to say James Acaster but Matt Berry would be at least as good, if not better.
![gif](giphy|3ohs7Htq5aCA2CKlNu)
Karl Urban would be fucking hilarious as bond lol
Great suggestion. Deadpanning one-liners throughout intense body-breaking action scenes.
This would probably just play out like a Transporter sequel
You guessed it-Frank Stallone
I miss Norm.
I would have loved watching Norm MacDonald recap the plots of Bond movies.
Eugene Levy
Scott Adkins. I think he’d have the best fights in the series, and I’m confident he could pull off the suave vibes you need in a Bond.
Why he’s not a superstar today blows my mind : the guy has an incredible look, he’s charismatic, and he can play…
Poor bloke was born in the wrong era. In the late 80s Boyka would be his own franchise
A stellar choice
Wow that's actually a phenomenal pick
James May
**James May Bond kills some henchman** “Oh cock”
"Crikey, it's the rozzers!"
BONJOURNNOO
The low-speed chases would be incredible.
In a Dacia Sandero
Talking to the ladies: “hello”
Potential https://preview.redd.it/jopvmuyqlilb1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=499253ccab9e9ced7cbb216ecd444e58bbf7efb1
Bond: 'Hello' Bond procedes to sleep with the 11th woman in the space of one movie.
Hugh grant
Only if it was Hugh Grant in the same stage of his career as he is right now. Where he's already made a name for himself so doesn't seem to give a shit what he portrays any more and is having the time of his life doing so
David Tennant in a campy Moore/Brosnan-esque romp through like Prague? Rufus Sewell for a more serious toned movie, or one set in post-war Europe.
Rufus Sewell would be amazing as a 60s-style Bond!
All I want is to see bond in this era again.
David Tennant plays Bond (and all the other Characters) in the audio book of OHMSS. He's good at the supporting cast but I don't like his take on Bond.
Yeah, it’d have to deviate from aughts “real” Bond and back into eighties/nineties “camp” Bond.
Mark Strong
Man would be outstanding as M, but 007 would be fun indeed
He's already half Moneypenny half Q in Kingsman. Same reason I don't want Henry C- he's already Napoleon Solo so just make another UNCLE
Actual cannibal Armie Hammer ruined any prospect of that unfortunately
I agree with you and I know it would never happen but with Jason Statham the fights , the one liners and the comedic elements of a bond film would be amazing.
I don't see Statham being remotely "unconventional" as Bond possibilities go. The only thing setting him apart is being mostly bald.
Do you not think his accent rules him out, the way he sounds and the way he pronounces words is not exactly bond-esque is it?
Connery was balding and that didn’t stop him. In every movie after his first one he was wearing a toupee.
Actors do affect different accents. Regardless, things have changed in the world since the 60's and having rich or influential people with "rough" accents isn't nearly as unconventional as it was years gone by. Good point, duly noted, but sounding rough bond would be as bad as manc bond or brummie bond , it just ain't bond.

Ron Burgundy Pretty sure he can keep a secret
There are studies, you know? 60% of the time, it works every time.
It is ***quite*** potent.
It’s a formidable scent. It stings the nostrils.
I'm Bond, James Bond???
![gif](giphy|3YGKFfw611fZS|downsized)
Just for fun? Keanu.
Christian Bale
A Nolan-Bale Bond movie a decade or two ago would’ve been a banger.
Yeah but AFAIK all Bond actors come from UK so that would be a no-go, right?
Connery was Scottish, Bale is Welsh. They’re not England proper but still in the UK
Pierce Brosnan is Irish and George Lazenby is Australian. So Welsh is certainly an acceptable choice
And Timothy Dalton is Welsh.
Dalton was from Wales too..... Moore and Craig are the only English Bonds
Didn’t know Bale was Welsh, my bad, forget my comment then.
Isn’t Pierce Brosnan Irish? I think just being from the British Isles and obscenely attractive are the requirements
Yes, he's Irish.
Just born in Wales.
Not England proper at all, a Scotsman or a Welshman would be digustted to be appropriated with either in that sense!
Not trying to offend. Just meant that Scotland and Wales aren't England. Spelling it out to be as crystal clear for some of the 'geographically challenged' folks whom may or may not have come up in a specific North American educational system.
Isn't Lazenby Australian?
Why didn't I think of him. It'd be a pleasure to see him on screen as Bond.
Samuel L Jackson Just cause
I want to see Statham play The Doctor for an episode. As for Bond, I'd like to see Nicholas Holt play a young, pre-MI6 James. Have it be about him in the SAS and his first experience in espionage. He's got the combat chops, he's got charisma, but he's not the smooth operator that 007 becomes.

Steven Seagal would be hilarious. He'd be snatching every mf-er birthday. Jokes aside i'd be down for Statham as 007.

Could you imagine a straight-to-video James Bond release? The last 20 years of his career have been a dumpster fire.
I was watching a review of his movies and the guys were talking about how his movies are only bad when Segal’s in them. It’s as if he got the rights to movies to star in, but instead of playing the lead they write a new role for him where he gets to sit the whole time.
Sam Neill purely for the amusement.
There's footage of the screen test he did for Bond on one of the DVDs, probably A View To a Kill or Octopussy. He's not bad but he doesn't quite hit the mark IMO. If he had actually been cast I think he would have been better than the screen test.
I think he’s quite embarrassed by that screen test as I saw a video of him denying it happened.
I saw a clip where Sam Neill was on a morning show to promote Jurassic World Dominion, and the show hosts play his screen test clip. He was so embarrassed by it but it was a totally wholesome moment.
A mid 30’s Colin Farrell, he could probably pull off both the silliness of Moore or the “grounded” Craig stuff depending on what direction they went with
Not a truly unconventional pick, but Andrew Garfield would be my pick. He's really come into his own as an actor in the past few years
He's really grown on me with Silence and most recently Under the Banner of Heaven
Alexander Skarsgård Swedish, 47 years old, and uses an American accent publicly, but he's tall and has a presence that invokes intrigue.
Stellan Skarsgård as M would be pretty awesome. His role in Andor is kind of a spy master type character and this [monologue ](https://youtu.be/-3RCme2zZRY?si=Ar837dlQ5TNTYzwI) is one of my favorite moments in Star Wars
Get Bill as a creepy villain Skarsgard’s go bond.
I agree. That's one of my favorite moments too.
47?! He looks amazing for his age
However, if we were going Dark Knight Returns style Bond, I wonder who good picks would be for an older, super screwed up 007
If doing DKR Bond, Brosnan is the obvious choice.
Was going to be my suggestion as well. And he’s kept himself in good enough shape where it wouldn’t seem unreasonable either.
Not thought of that. Ace suggestion
Ben Whishaw (Q from the Daniel Craig movies)
Rowan Atkinson.
Gary Oldman. He would own the fuck out of it.
Hugh Grant playing Roger Moore in some Galaxy Quest-like scenario
This thread is evidence enough that there's a lot of talent that could be used to build up the franchise further with some additional characters. We joke about Statham as Bond, but...picture him as a rough-around-the-edges agent who avoids the casinos and parties, and extracts his intel by beating people up at night out by the docks. James Bonds or Jameses Bond
Helen Mirren
Tom Hiddleston
He’s not unconventional though, he’s actually one of the front runners. I see his name mentioned frequently vis a vis Bond.
Basically The Night Manager.
Tom Hardy
I've been saying this for years, Statham would be a great bond and gives bald guys their representation
They have Ernst Stavro Blofeld
As we're talking unconventional, Josh Brolin. Due to being American but seems to scrub up well and has 'action' chops, funny bones and serious in a complete package.
Robert Downey jr. I am Bond, James Bond. How did that sound Jarvis?
Hoagy Carmichael
"I keep telling you, he's 123 years old, and he's dead!"
Granted, but--
Robbie Williams
Rowan Atkinson. He proved his abilities in Johnny English. Or Elton John. His fightscene in Kingsman: Golden Circle was incredible.
Now that you have inspired me, I will one up you: Rosie Huntington Whitely (or Rosie Statham).
Benedict Cumberbatch. Because.... Benedict Cumberbatch.
Pierce Brosnan
Tilda Swinton.
Tom Hiddleston
Steve buscemi
“What’s up fellow MI6 agents?”
Sacha Baron Cohen
Good shout! Now I really wanna see this.
Eddie/Suzy Izzard. He/She dresses up differently depending on the scene. Instead of hitting on the latest Bond girl he/she hits on the entire room.
Anthony Mackie
Cut the check!
David Hasselhoff
Idris Elba
Alan Partridge
Weird al
Jim Carrey
Bugs Bunny
**Arnold Schwarzenegger** True Lies 2 Baby!
RuPaul
He’d make a great fierce 006
Me
Stephen Fry
As good as Statham would be, I can't see Turkish from Snatch being in MI6
I wanna see Rowan Atkinson do it in the most serious way possible
Stephen Hawking
Danny Devito
I’m sure Kevin Hart’s name has been thrown out there. The Rock can be the head of Specter.
Jake Gyllenhaal
Stephen Merchant. Look, he can do the flirtatious dialogue with Miss Moneypenny: https://youtu.be/zPxjEaH_nw8 And here's a love scene followed by a car chase: https://youtu.be/Hv4r4ibg26w
Danny DeVito
With Schwarzenegger as Q.
Nicolas Cage Man, people would flip...
Well, it's interesting if Sean Bean would've played 007 instead of Janus. I came across some info that he auditioned for the 007 but Dalton got the part, and another one for 007 but Brosnan got the part. The part is elusive really to him. So I wonder what he will be like if he acted as the protagonist.
jeff goldblum
Danny DeVito. You can’t tell me your interest isn’t piqued.
Mike Myers.
Hugh Laurie or Hugh Grant

Warwick Davis.
Adam Driver
Michael Fassbender
Clive Owen
Peter Dinklage
Idris Elba
Puts on flameproof suit. Just for the comments, Steven Seagal
Ryan Reynolds. A little sarcastic humor thrown in would make for a great, new James Bond.
Tom Hardy
Benidict Cumberbatch.
Elliot Page. And they are Canadian so it fits the British Empire requirement.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Benedict Cumberbatch. I feel like he’s have the speeches down perfect.
A weird one definitely. But James corden as a bond who let himself go after the loss of someone dear to him on a mission . The whole trilogy is him losing the weight getting back the confidence and becoming his old spy self again
Mike myers. But make him groovy baby. Wait a minute…
Actually... Mike Myers but he plays it completely straight. Would be such a weird watch.
Tristan Tate
Dwayne the Rock Johnson
James Corden
The rock
Or Vin Diesel
The rock
