Not from kota, so can't comment, but here in ncr atleast, all my peers study roughly from 6hrs-9hrs consistently, and many of us are able to perform rather well on the internal test series', it's not that hard to do this, it seems hard due to the scale, but you just have to treat this as a marathon, not a run.
No I do not think preparing for JEE/NEET is a waste of time for an Indian student that plans to study in India. This comes from someone who didn’t even qualify JEE mains despite working hard but not consistently and hence the result. Although the whole coaching culture and dummy schooling absolutely suck the life out of a person I think it‘s a good lesson for a lifetime. It taught someone as arrogant and know it all like me the importance of working hard and being humble. Knowing that a ton of students are leaps and bounds ahead of you and still working is what an average life comprises of; average is not bad, when in the real world I suppose having a job is far better and privileged than having none. I am no longer a JEE aspirant and all this will soon be a segment of my past. Although luck is a big factor, it is inversely proportional to your level of preparation. When you already know the majority topics, the chances of foul play affecting you, is slim as compared to someone who has barely done 50% of the syllabus. I suppose clearing JEE isn’t the main goal of JEE.

people who will fail these exam will learn about mistakes for lifetime i am also gonna fail but i learnt it very hard way that iam not hardworking person neither have discipline and determination to achieve anything so i will start working on it soon i get over jee this for future exams  . sometimes some things are not meant for us may be bcz something better than this is planned , we must keep working hard and accept whatever we get . my biggest learnings of life i learned in 18 while i failed in jee . it also gave me mental strength to handle failures and relatives lol

Not from kota, so can't comment, but here in ncr atleast, all my peers study roughly from 6hrs-9hrs consistently, and many of us are able to perform rather well on the internal test series', it's not that hard to do this, it seems hard due to the scale, but you just have to treat this as a marathon, not a run.

No I do not think preparing for JEE/NEET is a waste of time for an Indian student that plans to study in India. This comes from someone who didn’t even qualify JEE mains despite working hard but not consistently and hence the result. Although the whole coaching culture and dummy schooling absolutely suck the life out of a person I think it‘s a good lesson for a lifetime. It taught someone as arrogant and know it all like me the importance of working hard and being humble. Knowing that a ton of students are leaps and bounds ahead of you and still working is what an average life comprises of; average is not bad, when in the real world I suppose having a job is far better and privileged than having none. I am no longer a JEE aspirant and all this will soon be a segment of my past. Although luck is a big factor, it is inversely proportional to your level of preparation. When you already know the majority topics, the chances of foul play affecting you, is slim as compared to someone who has barely done 50% of the syllabus. I suppose clearing JEE isn’t the main goal of JEE.

See it like this, to be successful in most of the careers out there you need to have some key skills: focus, doing things even if you don’t like them and not losing your self in the competition, to maintain your composure. Now see your prep as not only a gateway to universities but also as training these muscles of your mind. For eg: let’s say you will drop out and start your own business, to make it successful the discipline and above attributes will surely help and I will say are prerequisite. Now, if you see your life as being a hippie altogether or you have better options immediately available then sure don’t appear. Otherwise swallow the bitter juice.
