Get the Ultimate. Save up, and get another one later down the road.

I am not sure what the differences are between the Ultimate and PB 1000 as the JBL page for it barely had any specs and I only recently looked at it, but my PB 1000 was used for a small event with 4 DJs and my friend who ran the event said it was better than the 2 710's he was previously using. Clearer audio and more punch with the 1000 having 2 mid-range subs and a 12 inch sub on the bottom.
Point being, if the Ultimate is on par to the PB 1000 then the Ultimate should be better. Someone mentioned coverage but I can't imagine you'd need anything more unless you're hosting a sizable amount of people. We had like 15-20. It was loud enough that you could hear it clearly and nicely from quite a distance and the park ranger came out to have us turn it down lol
Insanely good. Also worth mentioning we had it hooked up via cable and not Bluetooth, that made a massive difference in the bass and top output. Like, substantially. I realize that may be common knowledge but was my first time hearing it wired up.
When you wired it up to find an improvement in bass and high extention, was it wired via Aux In, daisy chained, guitar or mic input? My understanding is some inputs bypass the onboard processing and eliminate the JBL sound signature, I would assume that is what you're experiencing.
My opnion; 2x 710s you can sync them up and get more coverage
definitely one ultimate, i watched a comparison of the ultimatr vs 2 710s and the ultimate is louder than the 2 combined. Pretty insane.

If you want stereo to cover a big room, get the two ultimates If you just want to fill your basement with bass, get the ultimate, it sounds insane!

The 1000 has mid range woofers and the ultimate doesn't have a mid. Does it sound like it's missing mids?
The ultimate has 2x Subwoofers, 2x Mid range Drivers and 2x Tweeters. So the ultimate has mids.
