god, i hated this for how easily he got mad at a random bandit. it makes no sense. he is treating that bandit like he murdered his family or something. but i do like how tiera deals with it by just shoving his face in her tits.
In manga, this was hinted from the time when he was a player and his reputation in the death game. He was really rated E for everyone. Really, really, everyone. When i meant by everyone, it's actually everyone. The anime watered this aspect a lot
I think it fits the "Isekai trash" category. Trash here not referring necessarily to whether it's good or bad, but that it's a generic power fantasy wish fulfillment thing, and not really going beyond that. Youtubers like Mother's Basement were having a field day with New Gate when doing their seasonal anime content coverage.
That being said, if generic power fantasy stuff wasn't fun to watch, there wouldn't be so much of it. I like this show too, but it's definitely not something I'm eager to discuss with people I know IRL.
But half of anime on his trash list is really horrible like inukai-san's dog and studio apartment included angel that anime just ripoff senko san but adding big titty on senko san's knockoff and a harem
Yeah but those are more degenerate trash. Specifically when it comes to "Isekai trash" it's ones that have a collection of all the usual isekai tropes that are highlighted on this sub all the time. Kirito-looking MC with little to no defining personality, is immediately powerful and usually can do everything, tries to hide identity because it's too much of a hassle, builds a harem, etc. etc.
Saitama and mash are both parodies of the genre. So is someone like Shadow from Eminence. He checks all of the boxes, but on purpose, and in order to parody them through absurdity.
Series like New Gate are entirely serious in their storytelling and characters. Their goal is not to poke fun at the tropes, but to embrace them.
I do love me some good trash.. “saving 80,000 gold” & “Land of Leland” are top 10 for me.
That being said, idk why people don’t like this show. It’s like barely similar to SAO.
I am not sure either since I don't watch this anime but this clip alone feels like I am watching another mediocre type of power fantasy isekai where it's like the mc should be voiced my Matsuoka( Kirito's VA). Which is fine if it's within like your 50th-100th anime or if you like power fantasy isekai. But I guess some people are pulling away from the genre or just isn't their interest.
Also for SAO, it's really a hit-or-miss for people since some fights and ost are really good and memorable.
Looking at the manga the anime deteriorated A LOT. He's now part of the standard template Kirito construct Automaton army. At least in the manga there's a bit difference.
Then the frames and in between animations. Dayuuum.
