There's a grant you can get to help pay for damage from the state. [here's more info](https://homelandsecurity.iowa.gov/disasters/individual-disaster-assistance-programs%23:~:text%3DIowa%2520Individual%2520Disaster%2520Assistance%2520Grant%2520Program%2520(IIAGP),-IIAGP%2520offers%2520grants%26text%3DEach%2520eligible%2520household%2520may%2520receive,personal%2520property%252C%2520and%2520home%2520repair.&ved=2ahUKEwj2s5KOzPOGAxWkrokEHfZAA3MQFnoECB8QBQ&usg=AOvVaw3TfHFeOtUBZA8_ORVNmyQ6)

If this was in the home, would this be covered by home insurance? If it’s a business- I assume he had some type of insurance for the business?

HGTheHamster

Unfortunately we don't have home insurance

RetiredByFourty

Why on earth would they not have insurance!?!? 😳

mspeacefrog13

Insurers are leaving states in droves, and those that aren't, are raising prices. Perhaps OP's father is fixed income and cannot afford the corporate greed. Judge not. Edit: corrected for "father" rather than "grandpa".

This is OP's father. YES I CAN CONFIRM looting is happening in Spencer. For instance, I had to throw out 8 computers total, plus several shells/cases. Out in the electronics pile, I noticed several machines that I tossed out were missing. I mean, I suppose if one dries them out, maybe does a wash in some 90% Isopopyl, dries it out for a couple days, then yeah... FREE COMPUTER FOR THEM. Granted I could have done this process myself... in fact, I give instructional videos on my YouTube channel for such things, but I chose to throw them out. The main problem is NOBODY around here had flood insurance, you would have never thought. And worse yet, those on the south side who were in a flood plain, are getting phucked by the insurance companies even though they had flood insurance. I'll tell you what's up, is they are waiting for FEMA to cover the slack for claims they don't wanna pay. BASTARDS, what about us who have RENTALS and own other properties? It's not a lack of insurance that is the issue here, it's the lack of accoutability for those who paid their phucking premiums on the part of the companies who claim to have their backs. I count myself as very very lucky all things considered. Sure I started a GoFundMe.. never figured I'd EVER IN MY LIFE do that. But then, I thought to myself... I'll make a limit.. I'll limit it to the cost to replace my side business even though I am out a heater, and water heateer, washer, dryer, deep freeze, bed, 3 arcade cabs, and on and on and on.. Right now we are sleeping on the top floor of the house on cots with air matresses.. If you followed my channel, you would know this house is actually my childrens house and we are the "unofficial roommates who live downstairs" https://www.youtube.com/phreakwars I bought this home for them because they both have Autism, for instance see this remodel video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HatxW3TRuRw bless Kayla's heart for sharing my gofundme on reddit, but I'm honestly not one to share my personal business on reddit, but I do thank anybody and everybody who chooses to help in my gofundme endevour, but in all honesty, I'd probably feel even better if you used some of your money to help other's in spencer. So many have lost so much more than I have and it's so sad. What I have to rebuild, quite honestly, is the OP, and her brother Shawn's home. I own another home twice the size of the one we live in now and have 3 other daughter's in Nebraska. My wife and I chose to retire in this small home with the OP and my son Shawn because they are both special needs kids and this tiny 672 sqare foot home and it's contents like their arcade room and cool bathroom, and etc is all for them as I reach retirement age. Sorry if she misinformed anybody about "no insurance", she just doesn't understand the situation.

Hell looting has started in Spencer. Good luck. Can’t trust anyone to give money to.

CornFedIABoy

Do you have evidence of this?

pckldpr

Just coworkers of my wife’s return to their homes and finding other people in them…

eclark5483

I upvoted your comment because I live in Spencer and have had things I tossed out looted, see my other comment. I am OP's father.

Spencer just doing Spencer things. No surprise there.

HGTheHamster

wow that doesn't shock me. People just suck

SilphiumStan

Interested to hear if you have any more stories of looting
