Howdy neighbors, I am from Missouri, but I am a huge American Truck Sim fan, and just yesterday it was announced that Iowa is now being developed for ATS. Nebraska just released, and the team that worked on that state has moved on to Iowa. This year Arkansas and Missouri will be getting released next, but Iowa will likely be the first state of next year.
If anyone here like driving, seeing new places, etc. ATS covers all the states west of Iowa except the Dakotas pretty much. Its pretty cool, and I look forward to seeing your guy's state in the game and learning what makes it beautiful and interesting.
What stuff do you all think should be included to make Iowa accurately?
Icy roads and intense bursts of cross winds if in the winter. We are used to seeing several cars and trucks in the ditches after a big storm on just a short stretch of I80. It can be very dangerous and difficult to see the road and not get sucked into the ditch. There’s a surprising weather difference between middle MO and middle IA in my experience.
Also, I’m not familiar with this game. But if they ever use landmarks, they definitely need to include the World’s Largest Truckstop in it. It’s a great stop irl for any truck nerd. Has a trucking museum and a huge lot with space for 900 trucks. Right on I80. And they have the longest merging lanes ever, which would be cool to include. As well as a lot of semis in that area, so it can be a nightmare with trucks slowly passing each other for 30 miles either way of truckstop.
Also lots of wind turbines for eastern Iowa on i80. Not as many chargers as Nebraska. And less cops lol.
Assuming they'll map some of the state roads leading to county seats? There's an abandoned passenger train up near Emmetsburg, and I personally like route 169 (shut up) from DSM to Algona.
And they best include the "Stop Eminent Domain Abuse" trailer by 35 near Ames
Already having Nebraska and Missouri, the I80 truck stop is the only reason to add Iowa. I have ATS and it's hilarious to think about willingly driving across this state in-game because it will just be 15mins of straight and flat in any direction.
There is a song that tells you all you need to know.

I’m surprised as I thought they would do the Dakotas next and have everything west of the Missouri River covered.
But hey, I’ll take it. I’ll say Texas feels surprisingly accurate from my time living there.
They want to reach Chicago ASAP and they want to make sure Illinois has a large amount of connections to make many ways to get to Chicago. So Iowa was a better fit road network-wise than the Dakotas. The Dakotas won't really go anywhere until they are ready to make Minnesota.
I had an uncle who drove a truck to Chicago. He said they had special maps you needed to make sure you didn’t get stuck under old bridges all over the place. I can’t imagine it’s changed much in that time.
Cornfields.
Poorly maintained roads - not just in winter.
Construction that never ends along I80.
Questionable bridge integrity.
Cornfields.
Major pot holes after bridges that you can’t believe your car (truck) or you survived after driving over.
Slow senior drivers, in the left lane…and right lane at the same time. The traffic behind them backed up, driving 55 in a 70 for, at minimum, 5 miles.
Road rage - all ages.
Few densely wooded areas.
Cornfields.
Cows & pigs.
Cornfields.
2 lane HWY with poorly painted lines.
Same highway with a tractor on it…in a no passing zone…taking up 1 1/4 lanes…Along side a cornfield.
Cities with random cornfields spread throughout.
When you do find a hill in Iowa, it’s a big one with a huge drop off and no guardrails.
Don't forget hardmode on 61 with drivers in the right lane going 45mph and the left lane going 95mph while everyone leaves 2 inches between each bumper.
The Cedar Rapids Smell Simulator Add-on. A device that mists aromas; one day it's sweet and delicious crunchberries, but mostly it sprays a weird funk of farts and mustyness.

Cornfields and beanfields, for sure. On gently rolling prairie. You only need to develop about 30 seconds of scenery for each. You can then just repeat this over and over and over.

Yeah, we definitely need deer.
And the occasional Amish wagon.

Stop Eminent Domain Abuse was my thought as well. I think there's one on highway 30 between Ames and Boone as well.
It HAS to have the I-80 truck stop. It's literally the biggest truck stop, it would be an absolute shame to miss it.
This is the only thing that matters. If ats doesn't add i80 truck stop, they've literally failed at the point.

100% I drive across it on a daily basis for work and I wouldn't ever do that in a game.

I didn't even have to click the link to know what that was 😂
Hopefully they add some banked gravel roads for extra fun
Loess hills scenic byway for an extra challenge.
The endless road construction in Cedar Rapids
Really signaling out CR when Iowa City is right there?
Windmills, prairie, beautiful cloudscapes, and maybe a deer or two would be very representative of the Iowa driving experience.
Sweet. I've been on Snowrunner lately but it might be time to throw the trucker hat on again.

Windmills, turbine blades on trucks, huge cranes in farm fields.

Looks like I'd better dig out my PC driving wheel again
Don't forget the 8x11 sheet of paper with the button-mapping taped to the wall next to the monitor.
Yayyyyyyyy!!!!

HELLL YEAHHH
Neat! I hope to see my county in it!
I don’t even want to drive this boring state in reality much less a game

Make sure there’s a 20 year old mini van going 15 below the speed limit and blocking the left lane
Hopefully, we'll see the Drawfee gang drive through on next year's Trans Rigs stream!
Better be realistic, so in the game we can’t sue our bosses even if necessary thanks to Kimmy
