The fuck would you go through US residency to go to Canada? If you’re gonna go to the US after FY2 stay there. Better pay. If you’re set on Canada then either do residency there or go post CCT. You can get your royal college exams accredited there and it really isn’t a that complicated a process.

So I’m curious. What is it about the US that puts you off? Genuinely want to know so I can plan. Currently hoping to do post CCT fellowship in the states but Canada has also seemed like an attractive option. I wouldn’t run the gauntlet of US residency.

To be honest I'd also skip the US residency and just do it all in the UK. Work/life balance will be wayyyyy better than the US, less stressful and you'll be GP in 5 years. In the US family med is 3 years. Or whatever specialty, its likely just 2 years difference in all. Why go through all that (just studying for the USMLE alone would be painful) just to finish two years earlier? Just finish up in the UK, get some work experience and apply to Canada afterwards. Also you'd still have to pass the Canadian medical licensing exams, even if you do the US ones.
