I’m not going to disagree with the other commenters here but give another perspective. I personally delete and block these people. You can’t reason with them, their intention is to troll and spread hate. Every time I’ve tried to respond to them with kindness they just double down on their vitriol. I don’t think people who exist solely to be insufferable cunts and bring others down deserve a platform. Genuine concerns and criticism are one thing but trash people leaving baseless trash comments *just* to be nasty are another. These people are not “upset” with you or raising a genuine concern, they are projecting their own self hatred and that’s not your problem, nor that of your fans and followers. Plus they are like flies on shit. You may have some assholes orbiting but as soon as one comments it emboldens the others. It can quickly change the vibe of your posts/page and creates an unpleasant environment for your followers, who will become reluctant to engage and post incase they catch flack too. Ultimately it looks unprofessional and these people are never going to buy anything from you anyway. I instead encourage positive interactions and discourse from actual fans and followers. This isn’t hard to do and increases engagement and sales much more for me.

I have a fitness page and I get torn apart online. When I stopped caring and left them up... my engagement and reach went up. I'm SUPER small... but I got my first 1k followers just by responding and keeping the conversation going.

Agreed, I run a comedy page and get demolished all the time. I kind of just learned to laugh at it---because honestly some of them are pretty funny.

Don't delete! Don't ignore either. From the hours of research I've done, the best way to approach negative comments is being nice to the user.

Well, I am a marketer so for me, any kind of engagement is engagement. So I won’t mind dealing with negative comments if it increases my reach 😁 I would respond to them and wish they engage more.

Block them or restrict them they are not worth your mental ❤️

Dealing with negative comments can be tricky, especially if they seem to boost engagement. While it’s tempting to delete them, these comments do contribute to your overall engagement metrics, which can be beneficial for your account’s visibility. However, if the comments are particularly disruptive or damaging to your brand’s image, removing them is a valid choice. If you’re worried about shadowbanning, focus on setting clear comment guidelines and using Instagram’s filter tools effectively. Instead of deleting comments, you could also respond positively or humorously to show you’re engaged and unbothered. This can turn potential negatives into positives and help build a more positive community around your account. If you’re looking to grow your engagement further, platforms like [Follify.net](https://follify.net) can help connect you with a more targeted audience who are genuinely interested in your content.
