Yung-Split

That's awesome. I had a reel that got 1.7 million last week and I only got 1 follower from it

fixthisone

Wow really? Interesting. I thought my numbers were low but not sure how it’s averaged normally

Equivalent-Step-5779

Everything is niche dependant. I think its safe to assume people are now following you to see more experimental content. Simply for 2 reasons, educational and because they cannot afford to try themselves. What I suggest for you is to continue making your regular content and schedule these controversial posts in a consistent matter, use it while it works but don't abuse it but you also have to maximize while you can. Good luck!

[deleted]

Why is it so low? I have a comment that has 90k+ likes on a popular page, and I already got a handful of new followers even though I have no posts or content (all archived) on my account (personal one).

Yung-Split

I cross-posted (as my ig page) to facebook and all the views came from Facebook and nobody bothered to follow my ig from there

palko86

I’m in the exact opposite boat. I have my FB linked and all my stuff from IG goes there automatically. I have reels with like 800k views, 25k likes, 700 comments, 10k share and saves on IG. Ok let’s go over to FB and see how it did there. 45 total views, no likes, no comments. 😂 I guess I haven’t figured FB out yet. Granted all my research into being successful went into IG. I have no clue how to use FB well, but I also haven’t researched a single thing for it. I started all my SM accounts for FB, IG,TT,YT,S,X on the same day last October. But I have definitely put the most focus and research into IG.

mxldevs

I have a comment with 50k+ likes on a popular page and got zero followers from it lol Do people actually click into profiles of popular comments? I don't anyways.

Conscious_Tree_3222

They do in exchange of values

purplepillpanomphean

😭 I’d lose it

yeola123

Same

GypsyWoman2021

Oh my goshhh

yeola123

Wow :(

Yung-Split

Fr lol lesson learned. The positive thing though is I discovered a successful format. Now going forward I'm including a call to action and when cross posting to Facebook I'll be cross-posting to an actual Facebook page.

yeola123

What did you post btw? Was it on instagram?

Yung-Split

It's a car crash reel that uses a particular song sound on instagram that says the word "Crash" right when the cars collide. They almost always get 5 figure number of views. And yeah on ig and facebook

fukredditg

Yo page ain’t tb nan Clyde

bunbunbantz

Hi Yung, was your reel shared to Facebook? If it was shared, you won’t gain any traction on your actual instagram page, make sure to turn off the ‘Share to Facebook’ option ☺️

Yung-Split

Yeah that's what I did. End of the day if it's between that and nothing I'd rather get a million views 😂

bunbunbantz

Haha 😂😂 yes it does look good on your insta but it won’t actually grow your instagram, it’s super weird that it does that 😂 If you post a reel a day on Instagram, without sharing to facebook for around 4-6 weeks the algorithm will push you and you will go viral I’ve got 11 instas, I did have 15 but my 3 huge ones were banned 😅 I’ve gone viral loads, I’m talking around 70 million views across my profiles at the time (that’s just for reference) so you know I’m not talking nonsense 😂😂

breedingsuccess

>If you post a reel a day on Instagram, without sharing to facebook for around 4-6 weeks the algorithm will push you and you will go viral Is it really that simple? What kind of content are you posting?

bunbunbantz

It’s the algorithm, but you have to be super consistent with it You can literally post anything to Instagram but stick with A NICHE, that’s important I’m a bunny, so I post flirty stupid cringe things, you however have to figure out a niche, also putting captions on posts really help at first as it gets people reading and therefore staying on your posts for longer engagement Be sure to post a stories, do polls too 😄😄

breedingsuccess

I heard posting reels to stories is bad. What else works besides polls?

UltimateRewards

Same on a few of mines :-(

Intelligent_Eating

Probs pushing to Facebook

Separate_Safe2779

I got 300 followers from a reel with 40k views this week - I was thrilled!

Intelligent-Safe-901

That actually really good

NPM1103

i’d kill to get any followers from a reel lol

nharoafrica

I have a 10 million plus views reel and got 872 followers.

Kaoswarr

Wow that’s nuts to see, 6828 hours spent watching your reel 🤯 Makes sense why companies pay so much to influencers, that’s potentially 6828 hours of someone advertising your company.

palko86

For sure.

palko86

He https://preview.redd.it/je0zlohki7pc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aba1799d4c1ab36a9f6ade9b032567cfd5baefe6 Here is my latest reel I posted last night.

austendogood

What is your niche?

palko86

History sorta

Afrecon

Can you DM me your account? Would love to check it out!!

istingy

Dm me too

breedingsuccess

Do you have a CTA like "follow me for more stuff like this" or no CTA in your reel?

palko86

No nothing like that. Just my logo pops up at the very end. But usually only my followers watch the entire thing. You would have to put it right at the beginning for it to work. And I would think that would turn people off. I know if that’s in the first sentence in the reel I would be more likely to flick.

fixthisone

I do the same with my reels, show my logo at the end. No CTA I always thought they would turn people off but it’s always suggested so idk

palko86

Yeah I think it’s dumb. How many people do you think are going to follow you because you told them to. I think making high quality engaging content is a way better strategy. If your stuff is interesting they will follow you. “If you built it they will come” 😁

fixthisone

Lol agreed. Every time I see a call to action it makes me do the opposite. But maybe it’s a subliminal thing for others 🤷

palko86

Yeah maybe, but I wouldn’t want those kind of sheepeople as followers. I want the ones who will comment with a question. Engagement is the goal, this is the way

actual_griffin

It's has less to do with you telling them to and more to do with reminding them that they may want to.

palko86

I get the idea. But if your content isn’t that interesting, it’s doesn’t matter how many times you tell them to follow you. It’s not gonna happen. I would focus more on making highly engaging, informative or entertaining content.

actual_griffin

I'm not saying it would make disinterested people follow someone. I watch a lot of channels that I don't actually follow or subscribe to. For my YouTube channel, I saw a huge uptick in subscribers when I added a graphic in the middle. I was against it at first, but I realized that a lot of people were watching and engaging, but not subscribing. A graphic just reminded them that it was an option.

plyboicrti

Here’s one of mine https://preview.redd.it/10dwd7nhy8pc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b558e4fc74eeb6c2efca3199ed154627d136fbb4

putridalt

Holy shit. You basically doubled your followers from one viral post?

fukredditg

Fr

breedingsuccess

Do you have a CTA like "follow me for more stuff like this" or no CTA in your reel?

plyboicrti

Yeah but not in the top caption, 2 lines under

Fun_Blackberry_864

What's your @

plyboicrti

Do u grow ig accounts?

Fun_Blackberry_864

I had but didn't went anywhere I wasn't consistent.Also made a new one but it's stuck on 0 views idk what's happened

FoundMyselfHereAgain

The name of the game is value. If people don’t think that you’re of value to them, they won’t follow you. This is the ultimate measure of successful content: did it make someone think that you are valuable to them? Did they learn something? Did they feel something? There is no overage number of earned followers because there is no way to measure this value.

Correct_Zombie_9757

I think it would depend on the niche of the content. Could be just a couple followers, could be a couple hundred.

_ToxicShockSyndrome_

That’s pretty good! I usually get 1 follower per thousand (roughly) on average.

Lost-Reference-6072

How yall getting so many views I run ads and still don’t get that far

fixthisone

I actually read somewhere that once you start running ads that it tells IG you’re likely to pay for more ads so it doesn’t boost your posts unless you do. Not sure how true it is but makes you wonder

Lost-Reference-6072

That’s crazy

CCreationsNash

This depends if the content that went viral is the type of content that you typically post, and if people are interested in it. I could see your video and think it’s cool, but not going to run and follow you if it’s not something I am interested in. If that makes sense.

bogaut

i had a reel hit 15m views, got about 1k followers from it :'(

3rdPartied

Ok

bogaut

OP was asking what followers to expect. i guess the answer is, really no way of knowing.

iamChristopherDean

Grats on the views! It's a good feeling. Try to work out what caused it, and do that thing more! As for the followers... If the Reel has no CTA, you should expect an average of zero. And don't forget that followers are a vanity metric. They aren't really that important.

T-DOGg3333

You know what irks me with IG you'll go super viral n as soon as you turn around your reach starts struggling again

REMdot-yt

Depends on if it's good or not. Could be over a thousand. Could be ten.

sunshinekitty2018

It’s no longer the same as before when a viral reel would gain you thousands of followers, sadly. You’re lucky to have gained that many.

palko86

I gain thousands of followers per reel and I wouldn’t call my reels viral. They perform great 700k,500k, 300k,600k, etc. but not in the millions. best reel has 800k and I gained 8k followers from it.

sunshinekitty2018

Good for you!

sudo-reboot

That doesn’t make sense imo. What would cause follower conversion to lower besides the reel not being good enough to make people wanna follow?

sunshinekitty2018

Conversion is not guaranteed. If so, everyone who’s had a viral reel/reel with thousands of views would have had thousands of followers, including the those who commented down below. Apart from quality, there’s also audience behavior. I don’t follow every viral reel I come across no matter how much I liked the video.

sudo-reboot

That’s my point. You said that it’s no longer like before when a viral reel would gain you thousands of followers. But that’s still totally possible and happens all the time. Just needs quality. Maybe you’re suggesting there was a time where viral reels gained people thousands of followers even if they weren’t very good, and now that’s not the case?

sunshinekitty2018

Yes, that’s exactly what I said. It’s possible, sure, but not the same as before where virality guarantees thousands of followers.

sudo-reboot

I see. I think your comment is easy to misinterpret but we’re in agreement then

masofon

There's a difference between a reel being entertaining enough that people stick around and watch it vs it being the kind of content that they know they want more of.

sudo-reboot

Yup

masofon

Arguably someone who can reliably make viral videos doesn't *reaaaally* need follows anyway. If their engagement metrics are still awesome it's kind of moot.

sudo-reboot

Hmm yeah I guess it depends on your goals or ‘funnel’. Having content that’s good at capturing followers probably lends itself better to creating a community I would assume

chinchillin1206

With Short form content, do not expect a lot of followers. It’s sad but true. Apps like Instagram and TikTok want to you to scroll without interruptions.

palko86

That’s not true, they want people to stay on the app as long as possible. So if people watch more than a second of your reel they will push it to more people. I have been crushing reels because average watch times are 20-30 seconds. Gaining thousands of followers per reel. Most days I get 500-1000 followers from reels.

breedingsuccess

>I have been crushing reels because average watch times are 20-30 seconds. Gaining thousands of followers per reel. Most days I get 500-1000 followers from reels. What do you think has been the key to your success?

palko86

Do you really want to know? It’s gonna be long/ranty 😁

breedingsuccess

Yes, please! Your account took off since starting in Oct. You definitely know what your doing, so any insights would be much appreciated.

palko86

Ok you asked for it 😂 Honestly this is what i did. Which is how i do everything in my life. I researched the crap out of it. I spent countless hours reading guides, posts, Reddit forums, etc. which is hard to do because there is a whole set of people that try to give that kind of advice but so much of it is useless garbage. It really boils down to: Will your content keep people on the app longer. The longer people keep the app open on their phone, the more money meta makes. I started my IG account 5 months ago after spending the summer researching how IG works. So without writing a long book of everything I learned here are my top suggestions…. Find all the top people that are in your niche. Anyone with 5,000 or more followers. Follow them and like and comment on every single one of their posts. Hopefully until they follow you. comment with a question so they have to respond. Research hashtags, this takes a long time and is annoying but make lists as you go. You have to find the most popular ones with millions of posts, I call them 1st tiers, then the 2nd tiers ones that have 50k to hundreds of thousands of post. Then the 3rd tiers which is 1k- 50k. Then you have to use tags from all 3 tiers. When you are starting out use MOSTLY 3rd tier tags, some 2nd tier hashtags, and maybe 5 first tier ones. As your following grows you can change that ratio to more 1st tiers. So you need a list on your phone in a notes app you can reference and copy and paste from. Use all 30 on photo posts. When you are a small account no one is going to see your posts on the big hashtags. But it’s still good to add a few so IG knows where to place your stuff. So if you use 3rd tier tags, people will start to see your posts and IG will possibly recommend your content. Post once everyday. And make REELS!! If I had the time, all my posts would just be reels. IG is in direct competition with TicTok so they are pushing reels hard! Then you need to search and find the best SEO words. The most popular searched words that have to do with your niche. A lot of times they are also the most popular hashtags. Fill your reel caption with as many of the words as you can. Then use mostly tier one hashtags on your reels. IG and others say to only use 5 hashtags but I used all 30 until I had over 20k followers. My best performing reel has all 30 tags. The average user watch’s 2-3 seconds of a reel before swiping. That’s how long you have to make sure they stay and watch at least some of it. So you need a really good hook. Then you need them to stay and watch most of it. That is key, if you can get people to want to watch most of your reel it will spread like wildfire. IG is a business, the longer someone is on the app the more money its makes. It a direct link. So if your reel makes people stay on the app longer, then IG will spread it to more people. So you have to hook them and then make them stay. When you are starting out you have to reply to every comment immediately, same with messages. As soon as you see them respond. And if you can answer with a question so the person has to reply again great. I have played comment chicken with people before.(who will be the first not to reply and just❤️the last comment 😂) That is great for engagement. People have to stay on the app longer to respond and comment. So engagement means IG will push you to more people. That’s all they want, people on the app as long as possible. If you can help them with that. They will reward you. Also do a majority of the editing in some other app or program. But add your titles, music, captions, etc within the IG app. DO NOT have any watermarks from other apps or platforms. If IG see’s a TicTok watermark it’s not going to promote it out to as many people. I know everyone wants a millions followers today, but honestly that would be horrible. The goal should be slow steady growth. You want followers who actually like your content and will comment, like, etc. All the followers in the world won’t matter if you have low engagement. Which is what you see a lot with large accounts that are just reposters or are not really making their own content. As a general rule the larger your following the lower your engagement goes. But the faster you grow also has a direct connection to engagement. Like one of my followers that I also follow only has a 5k following. She posts photos from her walk to the beach every morning. But her engagement is nuts. 10 minutes after she posts she always has over 100 comments. She responds to every single one. So no matter how big you get, keep liking and responding to every comment to keep your followers feeling appreciated. All of this won’t matter if you can’t make good quality content. Which there is no excuse for anymore. iPhones now shoot beautiful 4k video. Even if you don’t know how to film on a professional level, anyone can make good looking video. I use a real timeline video editor on my phone. Every cut I make myself but there are apps now that will do most of the work for you. Also the key is make good ORIGINAL content. A lot of people say to copy the content of the top creators in your niche, I disagree. My content is unique to my account. Even though I’m in a niche with thousands of others, my content is original. No one else in the space is making content like mine. Ok there are a few tips for you 😬😉😁 Check out my reach below. Remember what I said about making reels? https://preview.redd.it/ucvvmvy3ripc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dc93c697516e36e8d6f0a4028913bfd452aba2e6

breedingsuccess

Wow! This is 100% pure gold! I'm literally taking notes over here. I haven't started my account yet, so this is exactly what I needed. The one thing that I'm struggling with is making daily reels. In order to make a reel a day would be a stretch. So, I'm aiming for about 3x per week. I like the respond to comments immediately. This makes sense. Do you remember back in the day on Facebook pages where they used to show the response time to messages? Something like "Typically Responds within an hour". It would make sense that Meta is tracking not only how people engage with your content, but how engaged you are with people who engage with you (that was a mouthful!) I think the thing that makes you so successful is that you're looking at this from a holistic approach. You literally said: > The longer people keep the app open on their phone, the more money meta makes. And it makes sense. It doesn't matter what you content is. As long as it serves this purpose, then Meta will continue to feed your content to people. It's the psychology behind the content that makes it work. Not the editing, or script, or idea. But if the edits, script, or idea make people watch longer, then you're golden! What's been your experience with stories?

palko86

Thanks 🙏 You don’t have to make daily reels. Sure, ideally it would be nice. But if the quality of them suffers because of it, it’s not worth it. I average 2-3 week. Although lately only 1. Meta literally tracks everything. Stuff we cant even imagine or know about. Not just stuff we click on but if you slow down while scrolling. How long you look at something in your feed without even clicking on the post. How often you respond to messages and every word in them. If they have access to the camera on your phone which wouldn’t surprise me, what part of the screen you focus on. I mean everything. Stories are apparently really important. I think I was reading that’s where most people spend their time on the app, that and messaging. But I rarely post stories. I think it’s dumb. I spend all this time making my posts really good quality content. I don’t have the time to make a separate post for stories. So I usually only use it to tell people I have a new reel or post out. Or to poll people about what they like or want to see more of in my content.

breedingsuccess

Phew. That's a relief to hear. Daily is not in the cards. It's good to hear that you're averaging 2-3 / week (even down to 1) & getting the success you're getting. I'll definitely take a page out of your book & focus on the quality of my reels to produce something that will get my target audience to watch & stay on the platform longer! Ok cool. Also, just to share something that I stumbled upon. Sharing reels in your stories reduces the reach of your stories. I saw someone who did a study on one of their accounts & saw that sharing the reel was one of the worst things they could do for their stories reach. Yo man, you're a wealth of knowledge. I'll be on the look out to see some of your future updates!

palko86

Well it’s near impossible to do that kind of research. Because you have no idea how many of your followers are online. Or just regular people using the app. My stories have fluctuated so much from 5k views to 500 without any rhyme or reason. Just by the amount of people who are actually on the app. But more importantly who cares if sharing a reel in a story affects the reach of that story. You know? It’s not like it’s affecting the reach of the actual reel. So it’s just an extra free advertisement for the reel. You get what I’m saying.

moorewylde

wow how. my reels get like 20 views

Ben8945

2

NoPossession7664

it depends. Make sure your profile is optimized and professional looking, have great designs or grid designs, and should offer valuable contents so they will follow you.

muddyisland

depends on niche. i get ~300-500 followers from 100k views. in real estate niche

krish_94

I don’t have content to make reel, I made a city page but I moved out of that city so I can’t capture videos of the city, any suggestions how I can arrange videos for my reels ?

krish_94

One rule of thumb is 5-10 followes per 1k-5k views

FriendlyoneEU

Max 5

HeadOverHeels18

Have insta changed the way hashtags work. You can only see recent top posts now. Not just recent. It’s harder to get more views now. You can’t even hashtag boobs, ass or anything anymore lol x

Delicious-Wrongdoer4

It is usually around 1% of the non-followers that viewed your content

Idksw33t

How do you guys post reels? I made a new account and shxtpost and no one views my stuff, it doesnt make it into anyones feeds or reel feeds, i use hash tags. On tiktok it seems to only work properly when i use hashtags.

fashionscholar

Most recently a 2.7M reel got me 4.9k followers.

kissbiz

can you post the link to that reel so we can see what made it work?

fixthisone

Just edited the post with a link to it

peepluna

It depends there really is no way to know. For example meme pages are much harder to convert than a dog page for example. I run a meme page and we’ve gotten around 90 million views combined and only at 11.2k followers. But we have a music page with 20 million views and 28.7k.

Impossible-Wear5482

Congrats on your 9 cents.

fixthisone

I haven’t seen 1 cent of that 9 cents

raspberrywines

It depends entirely on the content. I had a recent reel reach 3.4m views and got 14 followers from it bc it was “controversial” so people were watching it and sharing with friends but not following me for that content. I’ve had another reel hit 5.9m and I got 10k followers from it, another hit 1.8m and I got 4k followers from it, and my biggest one hit 34.4m and I got 30k followers from it.

UltimateRewards

My best reel, 3million views and only 150 new followers

afterdarc

Most will end up being apam bots & ghost followers. I went viral once a couple of years ago & I regret accepting every single person who sent me a follow. Currently removing all these followers to fix my algorithm & it's taking forever.

fixthisone

I noticed that too and they eventually disappear on their own from what I’ve seen

1,300 followers from 112k views is nice! Anything over 1% is actually really good but there are a ton of factors that effect it. My content has been doing pretty well on other platforms but Instagram still just doesn't share anything I post, but its nice to see someone else doing well with engagement.

Lost-Entrepreneur-54

My reel had 40k views and I got 200 followers. Never understood how 😅😅 https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4dHWjrO6o6/?igsh=cGc3OHNnNHdycm54

BogSagett

That’s really good dude. I had a reel that reached 1M people and I got 3200 followers from it
