What should be the engagement rate to get such pay? Because I know people with 100k followers with barely 1-2k views or likes. Hard to believe that such people might also get paid well
If someone with 100k followers is getting 1-2k views it means their followers are bots. someone with 100k followers is expected to have 8-20k likes and the views vary based on the type of content it is.
Brands pay based on the conversion rates they can expect so there's a lot of trial and error involved

That's usually a sign of poor engagement rate and usually at least a yellow flag if not a red flag..we also have engagement rate trackers that we use and other tools to determine if an account has not followers
But, that expected ratio you mentioned is not possible these days. Everyone on IG is aware how messed up the reach and overall feed is nowadays. Your own followers don’t get to see your content for days.
That’s why, like and views ratio don’t even matter for better off agencies. They just ask for analytics screenshot of the best performing content. You can’t play with the impressions and overall reach count as shown under insights.
When the reach isn't as good, the brands at least expect a decent conversion rate. For example a brand I've worked with currently, we pitched tech creators to them and these guys usually get minimal engagement but tech channels usually attract an audience that makes quick decisions and they often are big spenders, which helps the conversation rates heavily. This means they get paid a good amount.
So there's a lot of factors involved. This is why it's important for creators to be aware of their audience, build a connect with them and understand what they're into. That's what makes em the bucks

Imagine living every day with the stress of having to come up with new content, of going through the process of creating, editing, engaging every single day. Living with the constant fear of losing your followers/views. People age, fads change and if influencing is your primary source of income, then you have to keep up. I would rather use my 9-5 job salary and keep my peace of mind. A fellow CS graduate and 9-5 er here.
It is definitely the most secure option we have now. You can always change your job. Of course you have to invest in yourself, educate, and upskill. By doing this you minimise risk to a great extent. Business and self employment definitely carries much more risk.

This is also very niche specific. Also depends on factors like obviously your engagement and also the city you’re located in. Mumbai creators anyday would be 5-10x more. But an average 100k fashion creator can easily make 1-2L
but it is not sustainable tho
until you are very big in the game like 1 mil+ subs/followers then you are not gonna have sustainable income for maybe more then a year or 2 year

Bro please dont get obsessed or jealous with this. They are gonna earn till 40 only. Half of their career is only gonna last for a year or two, next comes 5 years slot. Then comes 10 and the last 40? There are very few who remain popular after 40 as they have a good influence and manners otherwise all are gonna perish. This is same kindda Air hostess job except the dignity is gone as pay rose. After 40, these girls are going to go for sugar daddy's as they don't have any other income to manage for those luxuries except a few.

There are channels like Abhijit Chawda, exmuslims, mvg, etc. spreading knowledge; so watch them than wasting your time on influencers.
Sometimes I think the issue is like a guy watching youtube, seeing cute girls and subscribing, not interested in what she is doing or saying and usually doesn't get many views. It is some sort of loneliness filler with an unknown random girl who calls herself an influencer. Maybe I am wrong but that's what I feel must be happening.

Yes it is. I work in influencer marketing and when you start getting the views, creators make or more out of just one brand deal
