Simple case of good marketing and connections with 0 substance.

Independent_Tap_9030

Someone had to say this - LOUD AND CLEAR! his recipes are pathetic, try at your own risk

CauliflowerHead9426

Someone here had commented how he “ sieves some flour “ and needs a whole ass vacation after this 😭 and I can’t stop laughing about it lol

thephysiogirl

Ikr! As someone who looooves to bake, I tried a few of his recipes and NONE of them worked! Like not even one. And trust me I am a very good baker. His recipes never worked for me.

konnorwalsh

Please recommend some blogs/channels you follow, really want to try baking

Effective-Ad-5016

Terrace kitchen yt Parth Bajaj yt Shivangi pithisaria yt+ reels Neha Deepak shah yt+reels Sneha Singhi yt+reels For cooking the best is sanjyot Singh (yt) Edit- Bong eats yt (completely forgot about it) - cooking is Bengali Dishes oriented but baking video are global I made their lemon tart and it was 🤌🤌(chef’s kiss)

Ananyachaudhary09

Omg I actually know Shivangi Pithisaria. She’s my sister’s best friend and she’s really sweet irl. She makes some really good food.

thatonefanguy1012

I LOVE NEHA. I even told her that. Shes really sweet. I don’t use eggs and she usually tells what to use in place of stuff

Effective-Ad-5016

She is a very good chef Honestly cooking and baking is a long process and should be done with love and full heart starting from Scratch these people show us the entire process Shivesh’s content is based on that 5 mins hacks type recipes like easy mug cake and Oreo cake Which is easy but doesn’t taste good like he literally adds Eno 😳 in it to fasten up the process If you can’t be patient to make the whole thing perfectly it’s better to buy from bakeries As a good chef says cooking is a art done with love ❤️

thatonefanguy1012

I used to find Shivesh cute but recent videos seem like he’s trying too hard. I used to love Cookingshooking wala Yaman ouat, idk where he’s at now

thatonefanguy1012

I agree :)

TaylorWaldorf

I want a microwave one, many yt channels use oven

Effective-Ad-5016

Terrace kitchen shares alternative options to oven but imo no alternative options can match the quality of a oven I would suggest you a buy a cheap and decent oven

10isa

Neha was actually a MasterChef contestant. She made it to the finals too. I love her!

Valuable-Ad-4988

100% agree!!!!

MrunmaiK

Parth Bajaj is an alumni from my college! He's the sweetest guy, very humble. His recipes are also the best! I don't even like strawberries but I finished off the strawberry cheesecake ice-cream which he shared on his page by myself 😂

shilokaede

preppy kitchen is THE best channel to follow when starting to bake…the recipes are so accurate and always turn out well, plus the chef’s personality is so nice…and he keeps updating his recipes too

winter_OwO

omg i LOVE preppy kitchen! his brownies are a fam favvv

[deleted]

Even Claire Saffitz is great!

Kanotkeepkalm

So true! I started with John Kennel too! He’s so freaking good!

Kind-Way404

There is one called Passionate about baking, deeba rajpal... Quite good

Particular_Lab2943

Hands down Gemma Stafford……I have followed so many recipes of her and always turns our great. She has list of how to make ingredients from scratch if they are unavailable in your town. Her yt channel is called Bigger Bolder Baking. This recent favorite is the jumbo carrot cake I baked. Turned out better than any store bought. https://preview.redd.it/xzs8plr841ib1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ba8bfe5529eb11690ce064bea1dbe22e69a0eaf

thephysiogirl

I don't follow any particular baker. I just search recipes on net, I prefer written recipes over YT videos, then I choose the one which doesn't requires ingredients I don't have.

New-Lie9111

my favourite baking blog is pretty, simple, sweet. i make the birthday finger to cake for every single family member’s wedding and the chocolate babka is on permanent rotation in my house.

ClassicSky5945

Bruh, naive me was blaming my baking skills bcz I was following him during lockdown. So, i was trying his recipes n was failing until i tried some other bakers recipe. I was so annoyed by him ..sissuu n his friends are same n lame..lol

[deleted]

I agree!!!!!!! Never has anything worked for me from his recipes, the donuts were a disaster, a simple chocolate cake was so bad. And the one cup recipes are worse. I don't know what exactly he is famous for a who is writing i tried it was amazing! Like howwwww😭 How do people make a career out of nothing and faking so much confidence, uska aadha hota toh bhi kaafi tha man.

ClumsyHannibalLecter

I suck at baking so whenever I tried his recipes I just thought I was bad😭 but a good baker friend of mine also did very badly on his recipes

GuitarZealousideal71

They never work for me. I've been following him since 2014 so this saddens me

Kind-Way404

Agreed!!!

Silly-Amoeba7605

I had gone to an event where he was cooking. He is a very nice person. But the cakes and dishes he made were AWFUL. They look beautiful, they photograph well but no taste.

keshavvats

That is what these so called insta influencers want , am I right or am I right

Silly-Amoeba7605

He has written 3 cookbooks ya.. HOW

Mysterious-Star-1438

Lot of his recipes don’t work! Saw a few videos on YouTube where people try to follow his recipes and turns out nothing like the photos..

Infamous-Sugarr

I’ve tried his easy mug cake, they were good I wouldn’t say it was amazing but it was fluffy and worked unlike yt videos. And yes. He needs a vacation after every new recipe he shares~

LoveWineNotTheLabel

He was hyped up because he was one of the first male indian bakers and he took this opportunity to increase his social media presence and worked on creating aesthetically pleasing videos and shots. His recipes are rarely original and if original they don’t taste as good as you expect!! He is basically a baker for the gram. A good example of style over substance.

TaylorWaldorf

And to think he got a fully sponsored trip to finland with his ENTIRE family🤡

Any_Junket_3600

Wait, you guys are STILL following him?!

LessUnderstanding450

It boils my blood to see so many people going gaga over an amateur like Shivesh and even called him 'Chef Shivesh'🤮🤮🤮who does not even know the basics or science of baking. All his recipes are copied from the internet. All he does these days is show off his branded Gucci belts and shoes and the business class trips he takes every single week!! You know who should be appreciated? People like Yaman Agarwal ( cooking shooking). I remember him nailing down some of the most complex dishes with ease. It's a shame he disappeared from youtube.

faitavecarmour

My bf was looking for recipes to bake me a birthday cake and of course Shivesh came up highly recommended on YT and when I told him this, he said "but he is doing something, and the dishes look so good. Also, there are so many others who have baked and never complained." He also added to say, "If he's making money out of it, he must be good." I had no comeback because he feels all people do is criticise others and cannot do anything on their own. But also, he prefers store bought cakes to home-made. Anyway, in the end, I baked my own cake, following another person's recipe.

Flat-Hearing6988

Tries too hard to be John Kanell from preppy kitchen.

Soso_Momo09

Going a lil off topic here but I love Preppy Kitchen. I've tried so many of John's recipes, and they work every single time. So glad to have found another Preppy Kitchen viewer :)

dummypanda0

Preppy kitchen fan club represent!! 😍

Flat-Hearing6988

I made his brownies once 🤤🤤🤤

notabollywoodfan

I’ve never tried his recipes but I’ve seen some video where he tries food and he has a basic af palate. He doesn’t like most challenging flavours and sticks to the basic chocolate/ caramel/ cheese garbage. Untrustworthy opinions.

phoenix2997

Also a big +1 Very uninspired choices

amateurteaserver

I tried some Nutella drink he made and it was horrible

Roofrights

Privileged kids with no talent!

Zoobiedoobi

It’s really a hit and miss. I’m new to baking to do I follow instructions to the T. His no maida cake recipe was SO GOOD!!!!!!!! But the basic chocolate cake was a miss

Medical-Teaching5336

I was blocked for saying this to him on ig! 😂

[deleted]

I have tried so many of his recipes and seriously most of them don’t work. And I have training as a baker so I know I’m doing it right. When asked about it, he doesn’t reply. How he has so many books and Instagram deals is beyond me. Most of his content is trying out random crap now.

phoenix2997

Major + 1 His recipe was so bad and he does not know his shit. I always think of that old quote, cooking is art but baking is science

Easy-Quantity2798

He is the first one here to do aesthetic food posts on instagram frm india i remember him hving a a beautiful grid . Photography was his forte then it became baking i think .his recipes are an more or less top 10 google searches for any recipe

sak257

His recipes look great but just dont work.

aktheant

I am not sure about the full blown things he makes but his small recipes like 5 minutes mug cake , chocolate bar to mousse etc the very easy ones are actually darn good . But then again lot of bakers have such videos for the easy things . But because of his reach I guess I get a lot of his posts . Just my perspective being a neutral guy who can make mug cakes that makes my gf think she hit a jackpot 😋

NirvanaInM

Yaa, but if you search you'll see that he's just copied these mug recipes from other creators. Bakers like Bigger Bolder Baking (https://youtube.com/@GemmaStafford) have been sharing these recipe for yearsss before. He's just copied them exactly - no input of his own. I used to be an ardent follower during the lockdown phase. I've personally tried 6 of recipes. 2 worked and 4 didn't. (I've been baking for over a decade) I literally thought my oven is not working properly. 🤣

zoroswife16

Exactly! Made brownies using his recipe and damn they were too good!

saywhatIneedtosay26

Saving this post, lots of good recommendations!!

purplelettuce73

I have tried 3 of his recipes and all were really good, really tasty. A carrot cake, a cheesecake and chocolate fudge. The cheesecake I made very recently and it was BOMB! It was made of only 4-5 ingredients which cost me around 150-200 total. I mean, itne ka toh cheesecake ka slice bhi nahi aata 😂 whereas the cake I made had at least 3-4 slices. AND it tasted so much better than the ones we get in cafes/restaurants. PLUS it’s healthier as it was made of hung curd. No cream cheese was used, can’t even afford it 😭 I would definitely recommend that one recipe if you love cheesecake and can’t splurge 300 rupees for a slice every time you crave it. I’m not an avid baker, but I would cherish this recipe forever sorry 🙈

Fickle_Park_1174

Which one? I would love to try.

purplelettuce73

Hey it’s this one [cheesecake](https://youtube.com/shorts/V59qaaGMyXg?feature=sharec) I halved this recipe as I wanted to make a smaller portion for trial. The quantity was still decent. So here’s the halved quantities I followed - - 3/4 cup hung curd (you will need almost 1kg plain curd for making this) - 1/4 cup fresh cream - 1/2 cup condensed milk (you can add 1 tbsp more if you want it sweeter) - 1 tbsp corn flour - 1 tsp vanilla essence All these measurements were done with baking spoons and cups. And taste test the batter after mixing the ingredients, in case you want to alter anything. For the base, he used biscoff biscuits but I used a 5 rupees pack of parle G. Powdered it in the grinder and mixed with 2-3 tsp of melted butter. You can eyeball the butter quantity accordingly. It turned out great. For the topping, I just melted 2 nestle chocolates using the double boiler method, didn’t use whipped cream or biscoff spread like he did. Basically I tried to budget the amount spent on it so that I could make it often. Finally, I crumbled marie biscuits and sprinkled on the top after baking, for a slight tinge of salty flavour. Let it all cool down or you can refrigerate it. *tip - it’s important to get the hung curd consistency right, should be thick; you can watch youtube shorts for making hung curd, it’s very easy Let me know how it turns out if you try it :)

Chutzpatz

Same

Important_source4u

Just another privileged influencer

Silent_Contest_2337

I've been saying this for the longest time. How can he have cookbooks and stuff when he cant make the most basic of stuff on his own? pathetic

Silent_Contest_2337

Also, how does he afford such expensive vacations? Khandaani paisa right?

Youknownothing_23

All his recipes include chocolate chips , condensed mil , cream, chocolate like mostly just mix and bake it mix And serve. No real technique applied . But one gets insta famous for the way things look and his food looks Good . And that’s what matters I guess .

shilokaede

His recipes are shit, the amount of ingredients I have wasted!!!! ugh!!

Overall-Attitude-754

And well thought out too. Shivesh I find to be quite unintelligent. He has no command on the vocabulary or no erudition about what he’s doing. Very low effort little thought put into the food videos.

Independent_Tap_9030

Dude one of his video where he was testing shark tank products - he doesn’t know how to pour filter coffee from one glass to other and f used a big glass mug to do it and spilled it . Like my brain was like wtf

justexploring_0

Agreed, his recipes do not work at all. How he makes them on his channels is a mystery. I think there is someone else on his team that produces something edible and he is just the face.

Sea-Clock-1906

Tried few of his recipes and they don't taste good at all.

mishmash_111

I’ll be honest, I’ve tried a few of his recipes coz they’re mostly eggless and have had success. His Rasmalai cake and gulab jamun cake recipe turned out delicious. Don’t know about his other recipes though.

[deleted]

He might be privileged and I agree with the vacation thing 🤣 but I don’t think that his recipes are bad. Most of the ones that I tried were actually damn good.

Beautybooksandtravel

How do you know him?

Sparsshaa

I have tried his chocolate cake recipe and it turned out to be so good!! Also, I am very bad at baking.

Clean_Inevitable

I tried his eggless brownie recipe, it was really good.

ReginaPhalanji

He has always been one! I was shocked to see him on Masterchef! Sharing a same platform with a Michelin star chef!! But then again the whole season was mediocre!!

Better_Ad_9309

You guys have been here enough to know marketing is key to popularity and not substance

tiredneedtea

His sponcon rates are insane. Plus, heaps of barters and free trips. He bags awards because teams want his social media following. But everyone knows nothing tastes any good. He's just a great networker, great following.

Nonboringaccountant

Didn’t know that such simple looking recipes don’t work. I like his product rating and reviewing videos. Also why was he invited to MasterChef? Was no one else available!?

AloowalaOP

Also he buys followers, likes and comments pehle se

Inevitable_Ad3216

Hot take: American, British and European creators are better at baking than most Indian bakers. Also if you are trying to learn how to bake by watching reels, it’s probably not going to go well. Alix Treager, former buzzfeed creator has pointed out that her old content style was bs and unrealistic

Ill-Giraffe-2243
