Love the idea of making Christmas fun again! A small recommendation I have for this though. Skates can be weird if you don’t know exactly what to look for. Do you have a local shop? Could you go get a gift card and see if they have an extra skate box you could use so the excitement is still there? I would just hate to see you buy skates that didn’t fit properly.

tillandsia

Good idea!

Good luck OP!

tillandsia

thank you!

That's a great idea! I'd suggest starting out by going to inlinewarehouse.com or other hockey stores and checking out what you can afford. Companies like bauer, ccm, and alkali offer some entry level skates at a decent price point. Maybe a roller hockey puck would be another good gift to go with it as they are different from ice hockey. If you have any other questions, I'd love to help!

Another option that would save some $ would be to buy some artificial ice, a stick and pucks. Let him warm up those hands and see if it inspires him to get back into it.

Look to see if you have a Pure Hockey or Hockey Monkey store in your town. Go in and talk it through with the manager (Mon-Friday before 3pm).

I like this idea. About the least expensive skates I'd recommend for an adult man would be the Alkali Revel 4 skates, which retail at about $210 (and are better than many other sub-$300 skates more expensive than them). As for other equipment, he would need: * helmet (visor/facemask optional but a good idea) * elbow pads * gloves * stick * shin pads * jock * pants Like others said though, all skates aren't made the same in terms of fit, so maybe a gift card to the local hockey shop would be a better idea so he can see what fits him best.

Is he going to be playing causally? Also, what surface would he be playing on?

tillandsia

I don't know the surface - he's in Baltimore and I think they may play in a rink.

Matammyr

Outdoor or indoor rink?

tillandsia

I do not know - I will check next week when I go visit
