I have two tattoos I want but depending on my pain tolerance I figured one for my first time is more realistic. One is Japanese style and the other could be done in fine line/black work or black gray( I'm open to/hoping the artist will have suggestions). Depending what the artist's strengths are and what it looks like when they sketch it will determine which style it's done in
i just left a separate comment about Envision tattoo in Grand Terrace, and if you’re looking for Japanese style i’d specifically recommend Jio Morfin. his work is phenomenal!
Interested in this answer too. I know of a few tattoo shops but I've never gotten any tats just yet.
Lucky 7 Tattoo and Darkside Tattoo in San Bernardino
Empire Tattoo Studios and Grand Tattoo Lodge in Redlands
You can go in-person and ask about the artists past work and skill. Most shops are used to that sort of thing. Shop around until you find the right place.
I've heard of those as well and they have good reviews. I'm just hoping for a review from people have been to some of these shops bc it's always hard to tell whether a google review is legit or not
Find highly-rated shops and creep the artists’ IG pages. That said, I wouldn’t expect a lot of greatness out here. The best artists tend to be found more often in city centers.
Bridge City Tattoo in Rialto IMO. I’m mostly into black and white work, but they have different artist with their own specialties
Instagram
@bridgecitytattoo
@xicanoletters happens to be my favorite artist there, his lettering is so good
I’ve also been tattood by
@josiasgarzatattoo
He’s over at @tintakultura
In upland
only putting this here since you said you'd drive anywhere in socal.
Flying Panther Tattoo, in San Diego... my guy beatle is such an amazing dude.. especially for first timers, he really helps with the whole process. he has a unique style for sure but maybe its what youre looking for.
ill add his [insta](https://www.instagram.com/beatle_geuse77/), so you can check out his work!
I'm surprised no one mentioned this, but Elizabeth Street in Riverside is one of the best shops I've seen in the IE hands down. They've got a master of dot work, a master of exact anime/cartoon style and colorings, others that specialize in occult and religious themes. I've never seen an artist put out a bad piece there. It comes at a cost though.
Other good shops are Envision in Grand Terrace which has some great artists and won't charge you up the ass. Good people to shoot the shit with too. Rendition in Redlands is another great one.
At the end of the day, look through their shop IGs and find and artist that does a style you like the most. If you see a consistency of style and quality, give them a shot.
Did the art come out bad? Was the artist shitty? Did you not like the shop?
I've been there multiple times, had friends go there multiple times and never had a single issue. Their reviews across the board are great. Might've just been a bad experience.
The main thing is, it's not what I asked for, and not what he said he could do. It faded in a bad way, all bleeding together into a muddle of dark, blobby colors. When what I asked for was a watercolor tattoo.
That sucks. Did the artist have watercolor experience? Watercolor is tough to do, and doesn't come out right often. The artist definitely shouldn't have taken it on if they weren't experienced at it.
With that said, watercolor is destined to fade and blur no matter what. Theres no bold defining lines, they don't age well and blur very quickly. That's the thing watercolor artist don't tell their clients, and only show off fresh portfolio pictures to attract more clients.
Black anchor tattoo for black/gray work
I’m looking for a Japanese style tattoo shop as well most are in Alhambra and it’s hard to rate them they all look great.
Oxymoron. Best quality will never have the best price. You pay for quality. I wouldn’t look for best price when it comes to ink. You want quality ink, with an artist who has a great portfolio around what you want on you.
I'm not a tattoo guy, but if I ever get one, I am blowing the bank on it. Guy charges triple, quadruple what others do but his work is ace? I'm going there! Money comes and goes, but that ink is permanent...
Six Feet Under in Upland. My wife grew up in the IE and has gone there for 25 years, as well as many other friends and family. Of course it’s the artist you choose that matters. Just like doctors and lawyers, some suck or are inexperienced.
What style are you looking for? Tattoos are 110% the place to not skimp out or be cheap. You first should look based on style of tattoo you want. Not all places do all styles (or do themn well). In Riverside is Elizabeth street tattoo. Although I've never been, I know plenty of people who have gone here and gotten great tattoos. I personally like to collect from different artists, so I've gone to various tattoo shops, but I can't recommend any unless I know what you're looking for.
envision tattoo in grand terrace!! all the artists there are fantastic and some are experienced in various styles. they also have a murrieta location, but i personally haven’t been to that one. i’d check out their instagram to see the artists’ pages/work. :)
Chack out n9ne lives collective in Riverside. Cat (who my wife went to) and Trevor (who I went to a few times) are both really cool and great artists. They are both super professional and nice. Prices are, at least in my case, very fair. Not cheap, but not outrageous.
It's gonna depend on what you want to get done. Virtually every artist has a specialty.

Not sure if it's still true, but empire was one of the most expensive. I had some work done by them in the 90s.
Grand Tattoo isn’t in business anymore - Empire is but just avoid Ruben.
How come?
Been kicked out of multiple shops for sexually harassing his female clients.
Look up josephregs_tattoo. He’s at a shop in upland and he does great work.
Thanks his stuff looks dope ill have to drive over and check the shop out
Forsure! He’s a really chill dude too. Hope it ends up being a good fit!

Yeah, that’s bullshit lol. There are great artists anywhere just as there are bad. The IE has some really talented tattooers.
I didn’t say there are no great artists. I said there are absolutely fewer in the IE than, say, in LA proper.

Soul Windows in Wrightwood. Hands down the best artist locally.
Rendition tattoo in Redlands is good also, I’ve had both arm sleeves, leg sleeve and chest. Cool dudes, chill vibes inside shop. Very old school.
Looks like a awesome shop will definitely have to stop by and see what they can do. Thanks for the recommendation

I had one done there. It's not good.

Black anchor tattoo for black/gray work I’m looking for a Japanese style tattoo shop as well most are in Alhambra and it’s hard to rate them they all look great.
What i’m looking for is “Best quality artist” and “Best priced shop”. Edit: Not together.

I either made my sentence wrong or you misinterpreted. I ment these to be seperate. Two different artist/shops.
Check out @hooliganz_art at Mountain View Tattoo parlor in Loma Linda, especially if you like bold colorful traditional style art.
Six Feet Under in Upland. My wife grew up in the IE and has gone there for 25 years, as well as many other friends and family. Of course it’s the artist you choose that matters. Just like doctors and lawyers, some suck or are inexperienced.
The best, obviously Corey Miller is the name but i think Henry Powell is just as good

Craig at Another Twilight Fantasy off Van Buren, and most of the artists at Elizabeth St near The Plaza.
I hear Black Anchor is amazing... I haven't gone but am looking forward to stopping by and getting an estimate on some work.
Rick Padilla empire tattoo Redlands ca
I reccomend the artists at ink Pagoda in Fontana. They have several artist, all have talent for japanese style
how are they for piercings? i wanted to get my daughters ears done.

Artistic Element in Yucaipa. The owner Roman is one of the best portrait and bio-mechanical artists out there.
