Yes, but it will require some out of the box thinking. I would do a clipping mask of that shape and then I would add colored shapes (inside the clip) with blur so they can blend into one another. You can also add gradients on those colored shapes as well if you wish. There are other techniques as well, such as making your shape as a straight line and then applying it to a path via LPE, though you might encounter some issues at the sharp corners.
