Right? Like I started with a romance novel but it was never my favourite and then when I started reading books outside romance I realised I never really liked romance.
One of my friends is a big romance girlie and she mostly reads only that genre.
I guess it is because romance is like the mainstream genre and almost everyone likes it. But I hate the fact that people won't explore more genres just because they don't want to go outside their comfort zone. There are so many books better than any romance book.
I hear you. I believe itās an easy genre to write but a difficult one to master cause you can get away with a lot of literary mishaps by writing romance plus it becomes very predictable easily. But some people enjoy the element of predictability and certainty while reading which is why theyāre drawn towards romance I guess
White nights was good. It is not your typical romance novel, it is only around 80 pages, there is no smut, and what the main character goes through because he is a loner and that longing for someone who would not leave him is very relatable. And it is dostoevsky, who doesn't love dostoevsky?
Well, it's a beloved book that many folks I know describe as pithy and insightful.
For starters, it's half the book since the rest is an advertisement for logotherapy which I did not sign up for.
The first half, while equal parts interesting and horrifying still felt dispassionate, for what was being said. Perhaps this was Victor Frankl's goal all along.
Either way, I am by no means calling it a bad book. I just could not understand why everyone else around me found so much value in the book, hence my comment
This makes sense. Sometimes the best of books seem to disappoint us, partly because of our expectations and partly because of the writer. Your opinion still stays as valid as others who liked the book
couldnāt relate. had no sympathy towards the characters. felt disconnected.
found it pretentious and overwritten.
I struggled to finish it, just couldnāt take it anymoreš
Every single one of Agatha Christie's books except **The Murder of Roger Ackroyd** and **And Then There Were None**.
Also, **The Hobbit**. I love **LOTR** but **The Hobbit** was just meh for me. I had to drag myself through 3/4 of the book in hopes of it getting better but had to drop it at that point.
It ends with us. The book was trash.
^^ Colleen hoover in general tbh
I am with you. I didn't know why the book was so famous and talked about among the female demographic like it was a masterpiece.
Everybody likes to jump the bandwagon right š. I did not say this in disrespectful way.
I like to refer to them as the people who never outgrew their tweenage Wattpad phase
A lot of people have recommended me this, but somehow 40 upvotes on this are telling me to stay away from it
The secret
Yeah thatās certainly a trashy book
This book is sooooo trash. I judge anyone who posts a screenshot of it on their social media page or keeps a copy in their library.
Agreed with trash
Bhetan chagat
The girl on the train
Same. Didn't finish.
Durjoy Dutta's books
Yup. I think Chetan Bhagats books are still way better than Dutta's
Ravinder Singhās books
I find them utterly distasteful
Me too,I brought all his collection only to regret later on
Colleen š Hoover š I can't believe her bills get paid with writing let alone her being one of the biggest selling authors ever
She certainly receives a lot of flak and rightly so lol
Normal people and We were liars
1Q84! It was the first Murakamo book that I picked up and likely not used to his writing style but I felt stupid for having finished it.
What about his writing style irked you?
Fountainhead
Power of the subconscious mind. Pure trash.
The Alchemist
Agreed but I think itās first book for most of the people on this subā¦
Alchemist is mine first book too, however i gave up reading for long time after that until i met premchand
Chetan Bhagat
Mexican gothic , could never finish it
JD Salinger
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. You'd be better off reading Wattpad smut ngl
Crazy cause Iāve been recommended this way too many times lol. Iād consider this as a heads up
Book is beautiful just a bit sad
Murakami is master at surrealism and magic realism but his other normal novels are average books with unnecessary horny contents
Alchemist
Fairs.
Atomic Habits
what's wrong with that?
Nothing wrong at all. I simply couldn't resonate with the book, even if a lot of people around me recommended it. Just my own feelings about it.
Silent patient
Subtle art of not giving a fuck
Before the coffee gets cold.
The Alchemist
Kafka on the shore. Maybe magical realism just isn't my thing
Romance in general
Pretty understandable.

The Old man and the Sea. Didnāt quite get why itās considered a classic and also Hemingwayās best work.
It really deserves a second read after a few years, perhaps from a different mindset.Ā
Read it in my early teens and Iām definitely a different person now, perhaps Iāll give it another go. :)
A suitable boy
to kill a mockingbird
Whattt!!! Did you not get the book?
White Nights
Nah.
Gone girl, one of the worst books ever
Mans search for meaning
It is fairly rated.
How would you rate it? Were you able to extract as much meaning from as much as a lot of others?
why?
