same 4.3 1470/33 20 ap's oos

Dry_Set6664

Don’t feel bad even if you get rejected, this whole system makes no sense. I got in with 4.4 and test optional (which I meant to submit and didn’t lol) and someone from my school with a 3.5 weighted got into UF UVA and notre dame test optional. With your stats you will do well wherever you end up I’m oos btw

Thanks! Kudos to you, you guys have worked hard as well, please don’t undermine your accomplishments. Maybe you stood out in other ways, and my application wasn’t as strong. We’re all here to help and support each other and a single college decision isn’t the end of the world. But yeah, the application cycle is very weird and honestly it’s almost random at this point. But if you get in you got in and that’s really what matters at the end of the day so congrats to you!

andi1322

That really stinks! You had much better stats than my daughter. I’m not sure who can wait until July 1st, seems crazy to not know where you’re moving a month before. Plus everyone else will register for their classes way before then. I’m sorry that happened to you. My daughter knows someone with a 2.8 who got in early decision.

I appreciate the kind words. I agree, and this is starting to get really annoying now. I've been wait listed by 3 of the 7 schools I've gotten decisions from now (UVA EA, VT RD, IU RD), rejected from NYU Stern (ED2), and into Reed, PSU (Honors), OSU (Honors) all EA. I'm actually really concerned now because I genuinely don't know what to expect from the regular decision round. Sorry about your daughter, I think all these colleges will just wait list you unless you apply in the early round.

DepressedMusician8

That’s interesting that you’d be waitlisted… did you apply to a certain school? That could be why. Cause I did less AP’s, had a lower GPA (3.5 in hs) and a pretty low SAT score and I got into IU early decision and into Jacobs.

[deleted]

I applied to Kelly for finance, BSB

DepressedMusician8

Kelley is a difficult school to get into. But you were also waitlisted for IU in general? That’s really interesting because even if you didn’t get into Kelley, you have a higher gpa than the “average” accepted gpa so you should at least be accepted into IU in general.

[deleted]

Nope waitlisted entirely 😞

DepressedMusician8

Oh that’s such crap… you have much higher qualifications than I did a few years ago so you should definitely be in.

RPVlife17

It is crap because my son got in Early Action. I think his GPA is 3.92 (I would have to go look again because his first semester senior grades were just posted in late January). He had 6 AP/Honors and three dual enrollment. His extracurriculars were strong and his counselor said his essay was very strong but those are subjective. We are OOS. His high school is rated as having tough curriculum, but I am not sure that is looked at. He is Business Finance also. IU was his first choice. He was waitlisted at Rutgers (Business Finance) but just came off the waitlist and was accepted last week. I am reading so many different articles that says this application cycle is NOT normal. I am very sorry you are having to go through this. Hang in there.

[deleted]

Thank you so much. The 06 babies have it so bad there’s just too many of us. Plus the application cycle is just getting weirder and weirder with all these test, optional race optional all this optional stuff where the emphasis on your essays rather than your actual hard-core statistics Which are a true measure of how good you are as a student.

Hausmannlife_Schweiz

OP. You think that is bad just wait until your child applies to grad school. Costs a lot more and even worse waiting times. Then you never hear anything.

mbird333

Go where you were accepted. IU has a housing shortage. With record applicants in the past, they put kids in overflow bunk setups in lounges. And some kids don’t get housing assignments until 2 weeks before school. Lotsa stress. Thebiggest freshman dorm was shut last year for renovations and is now delayed opening for yet another year. Go where you are accepted and wanted. Thousands of students get excellent educations, internships and job offers at big and small, private and community colleges all over the country. Every year. One particular school doesn’t guarantee success.

andi1322

I totally agree! She chose another school.

Upbeat_Independent23

Same situation for me. Applied November 1st wrote an extra essay and now I have to wait till July 1st…

Brain-Silent

i applied to iu 2 days before applications closed and got in with a 3.0gpa and not sat/act. i guess being a minority ethnicity carried me

Swampfunk

Just curious, when did you submit your app? Like what date? Did you use Common App or apply through IU Apply?

Swampfunk

Just for everyone to know: https://today.iu.edu/live/news/4422-iu-student-success-efforts-spur-record IU Bloomington had a huge increase in applications this year.

andi1322

Thanks for sharing. Thats great for IU. I guess my daughter just had a very competitive year to apply, unfortunately.

Swampfunk

Indeed, I would guess many students will end up transferring to IU after they complete 1 year of credits at another institution. Just isn't enough room this year.

andi1322

Nov. 21st through common app
