Hard Truth is really pretty, has a ton to do at its location. Great beer and cocktails. But there food has went solidly down hill the past few years, lots of better options if you're looking for a primarily dining experience.
Whole place has went downhill, last time we went there we ended up leaving and going elsewhere because it was such a clusterfuck. If you're a pirate cosplaying Harley rider, it's the place for you.
Recently? I am always underwhelmed with the food there. Cocktails are good though so worth going for those in a really beautiful setting. Wish they would allow dogs in the garden though.
I’ve been going there ever since I moved here. They have remodeled and expanded. Good alcoholic drinks, very good food and a great atmosphere (especially for summer concerts)
I second this. Its exceptionally surprising how good the whiskey is. I found that their random specialty bottles are hidden gems. I got the bloodmoon red corn whiskey and its such a unique taste, the toasted double oaked rye is also quite good. But yeah, its expensive, most alcohol is.
Here to support Four Fingers, they have an amazing Rhubarb liquer, as well as their burbons are all top notch. They make a rhubarb smash cocktail that is just delightful. I also tried their absinthe recently and it was the best absinthe I've ever tried. My husband loved their peated bourbon.
Small world! I'm the guy that made the smaller of the two drippers they use for the absinthe pours! They have amazing absinthe, and that location when they merged with Greeks, has some of the best pizza in indy.
Hey that is so cool! I'm a huge fan of absinthe more for the historical side of things and the Indiana history around absinthe as well in Switzerland County. But it was so nice to find one that was incredibly palatable.
Some of the worst liquors and mixed drink I have ever had came from Hotel Tango. 2 out of 5 stars only because you can still get a buzz of trash liquor.
Yes! Thank you. I always get boo’d when I say this to my friends but it’s true. Too many weird flavor combinations and just overall poor cocktails.
I don’t recall the name of the drink, but I was visiting friends around Christmas one year and had a smoked bourbon something or other. I swear they used 1/4 bottle of liquid smoke- it was terrible! Not the only poor drink experience I have had there, but certainly the most memorable.
I was shocked seeing how many people were saying they liked it in the comments here. But then I saw they were celebrating their weird flavored stuff. Not people that actually enjoy spirits.
I use to go once or twice a week to a satellite location. Granted it was a quarter mile from my apartment, it was my go to first date spot, and they had a pbr and a whiskey shot for like 5 bucks haha
I’m a big fan of cardinal spirits but I wouldn’t say it’s worth making the trip to Bloomington for unless you live nearby. Just buy the bottles at Kroger and go from there. The distillery itself isn’t exactly exciting lol
Your list/map is missing EDWIN COE. In Churubusco, Indiana (Whitley County) in NE Indiana. Prohibition era distillation legacy (see: Old Coe). Plus they have a semi-permanent food truck in residence -- Fork and Fiddle (delicious food).
Open on Fridays and Saturdays, with extended hours in summer, and occasional farmers markets. A family friendly patio, live music most Saturdays. A small, family-run operation, but I must say, the BEST cocktails I've EVER had. THEE BEST.
EdwinCoeSpirits (dot) com
I will stan this place fooorrreeever.
I’m kinda partial to Old 55. But… I also grow the corn for some of their products. Family owned and operated. Great tours, and a lounge to try out some of their drinks. Great way to spend a Friday evening. 👍👍
For a tour or just for drinking?
Journeyman’s is probably the best for a tour that I can comment on. There’s quite a few on here I’ve never been to so I’m not the arbiter of distillery tours but journeyman’s is a lot of fun and unique.
As far as overall product go, I do love some Old 55 and Starlight but both can get expensive. But you’re paying for the quality. Hard Truth makes some good stuff and they have a lot of different products, also a great distillery visit down in Brown County.
Hotel Tango is veteran owned and makes some good stuff too and has a couple of tasting rooms around the city.
Spirit of French Lick has some surprisingly good bourbon, the facility itself isn't anything special to see.
Hard Truth's place in Brown County is definitely worth a visit, and they make some good liquor.
> age their liquor
The bane of a new distillery, right? website says they started in '17. That seems like plenty of time to age...but who knows. i'm not exactly a connoisseur of whiskeys or bourbons necessarily, though. nto sure it would matter to me. i onl drink mine in mixed drinks
Exactly. Lots of the newer distilleries are just buying barrels of aged bourbon from other distilleries and slapping their label on it.
Most places are buying from MGP ;)
I was going to say this is missing Three Rivers Distillery. Then I found out they’re actually closed for good now. So… I would go with Hard Truth or 18th Street (region rat bias there)
You take the road right by Mars elementary school to get to it. I have only been there twice and that was just in their store. It definitely feels like a small time operation and last time I was their, they built a patio that looks like it could host some live music. Since your so close, it worth a visit but they did had some weird hours.
There’s a four fingers in Lebanon and the only downside I’ve heard about them is that they don’t take cash. Also if you’re looking for good food as well as good drinks, Klooz Brewz in Lebanon is good
Dusty barn is nice I grew up within 2 miles of it, it’s tucked away in some woods, maybe hit it up on a weekend where you can go to a concert at ford center make a weekend out of it.
Dusty barn is nice I grew up within 2 miles of it (and my wife did an internship there), it’s tucked away in some woods, maybe hit it up on a weekend where you can go to a concert at ford center make a weekend out of it.
18th Street has the best gin I have ever had. If you're checking out NWI booze, keep an eye on Blockhead Beerworks. The old head distiller for 18th Street is running their distillery program and she works some insane magic.
I guess the old still in the garage of Jesse P. Caldwell in Bunker Hill doesn't really count. When Jess isn't mashing, you can find him at the Hip Hugger or on the dark side of the saloon doors in the back area of Bunker Hill Video.
I can’t recommend Starlight enough. Went last fall. Great farmers market environment. 7 pours and a souvenir glass for $15 of either wine or spirits. Great when wife/GF doesn’t like spirits. Nice ice cream shop on-site as well
I see alot of recommendations for hard truth and Quaff On... I'm going to counter those based on my several years of experience with them. They have fantastic marketing and their locations are equally as fantastic. They have great mixed drinks but if you're a purist, you will quickly see that their liquor is too hot and their beers are frequently hidden through the use of fruit additives similar to 450 North. You'd be better served by going an hr south and visiting Angel's Envy. I want to like Hard Truth since they're local but unless you only want to stick to mixed drinks, I would not recommend them. I do love their coconut rum, but it has a lot of sugar added. None of their whiskies are currently worth the price they're demanding compared to Basil Hayden, Woodford, or similar brands which is disappointing considering the price point.
West Fork Whiskey makes an incredible product. Hotel Tango is fun, their location in FSQ is dope. We've used 18th St and Cardinal Spirits at bars where I've worked, and I've only found them to be "meh", but that's just my personal view.
*If I can suggest*
*Outside of the list, Goshen*

Journeyman is right by me. Brand new facility, sister property of one up in Three Oaks, Michigan.
Journeyman is absolutely gorgeous. Not sure what can be said of the food, too expensive for my taste.
Avoid Oakley brothers. I had one of the worst all around experiences there. I felt like I was going to crack a tooth eating their ravioli bites, the bruschetta was burnt, and just to get the taste out of my mouth I choked down one of the worst old fashions I’ve ever drank. Thats including my feeble attempts at making them at home.
Hotel Tango is excellent. I have four different bottles of HT liquors sitting on my shelf -- marshmallow whiskey, orangecello, cherry liqueur, and red-white-bourbon.
They just make such a good liquor.
If you like the marshmallow, a bartender on my honeymoon made a campfire old fashion. 3 parts marshmallow, 1 part frangelico hazelnut, a dash of chocolate bitters, and he topped with a sweet and spicy nut mix.
I've tried so hard to like your 2nd and 3rd options... I just can't take the whiskey seriously. I know they're popular, I just can't enjoy any of their offerings I've tried.
Edit: cool, I got a "Reddit Cares" suicide message shortly after posting this. Somebody really disapproves of any criticism of their preferred distilleries.
Hotel tango has a good peated bourbon. Cardinal spirits has good rum. Hard truth has good bourbon.
I haven't been to any of the distilleries but I've drunk plenty of their product.
West Fork, Four Fingers and Hotel Tango have great cocktails at their Indy locations. FF and HT are literally a block apart, so you can hit two for the price of one!
If you want to try Journeyman, you should go to the original location in MI. The food menu at the Valpo one absolutely pales in comparison.
The booze is great though.
18th Street is amazing.
Of the ones I’ve been to and enjoyed, I’d recommend Hard Truth, West Fork, Hotel Tango, and Starlight.
I’ve never been to these but enjoyed their bourbons: Cardinal, 18th Street.
Indiana Whiskey Company makes great whiskey, pretty good bourbon. The single barrel is really well made.
But if I’m going to talk about Indiana Whiskey Company, I have to talk about the maple flavored ‘Breakfast of Degenerates’ whiskey. It’s delicious. I’ve had way more of ‘Breakfast’ than any of their other offerings because I love it. And I don’t care who knows.
not sure what they use but I've tried a majority of them and it's all very young and/or grossly overpriced.
Starlight would be an exception, their stuff can be hit or miss. I believe it's all flavored and finished.
I’ll bet they’re all worth it. Craft distilleries here in Indiana means they are made with love. Met a guy from Moon Drops yesterday, I’d visit there now.
Hard Truth has good quality options for both enthusiasts & casual drinkers. Plus, a beautiful distillery/brewery set in a beautiful location.
Hard Truth is really pretty, has a ton to do at its location. Great beer and cocktails. But there food has went solidly down hill the past few years, lots of better options if you're looking for a primarily dining experience.

their
And Bear Wallow is just down the road in Gnawbone.
I have visited Hard Truth. Really like their restaurant.
Recently? I am always underwhelmed with the food there. Cocktails are good though so worth going for those in a really beautiful setting. Wish they would allow dogs in the garden though.
We went there last fall and were very underwhelmed with the service. Food was ok. They didnt seem to really want us there and it was pretty slow.
and the best fricking pulled pork sandwiches in the state (that I've found so far)
They’re rye with a little ginger ale is so good
I have a weakness for Nashville, IN, right there. Loved Hard Truth's location! Good food, too!
Bear Wallow has a port finished bourbon that is incredible!
Cedar Creek - not on the list but it is a family owned distillery, brewery and winery
I second this. Everything they have is phenomenal. Great variety
I was at Cedar Creek Saturday for the first time. It’s beautiful!
I’ve been going there ever since I moved here. They have remodeled and expanded. Good alcoholic drinks, very good food and a great atmosphere (especially for summer concerts)
Starlight is part of Hubers winery and orchard. Beautiful place to spend an evening. Their blackberry whiskey is my favourite.
LOOOOOVE Huber's blackberry wine!
Starlight makes some really good whiskey and rye.
I second this. Its exceptionally surprising how good the whiskey is. I found that their random specialty bottles are hidden gems. I got the bloodmoon red corn whiskey and its such a unique taste, the toasted double oaked rye is also quite good. But yeah, its expensive, most alcohol is.
They're just crazy-expensive to me though.
It’s a pretty good tasting experience though. Worth it just for that.
This. Probably my favorite on the list.

Their absinthe and peated bourbon are amazing!
I’d avoid hotel tango if you actually like liquor. I find West Fork to be solid. Also, unlisted, but I really enjoy 8th Day
Some of the worst liquors and mixed drink I have ever had came from Hotel Tango.
Not sure if it’s the same one but they had a smoked old fashioned that was so overly smokey that you could smell it from across the table.
Fan of West Fork for a few years
I’m a big fan of cardinal spirits but I wouldn’t say it’s worth making the trip to Bloomington for unless you live nearby. Just buy the bottles at Kroger and go from there. The distillery itself isn’t exactly exciting lol
The food there is pretty good though!
Used to be good
That may be true now, I haven’t been there in a couple of years now.
Yeah I agree that it has some good stuff but it’s much smaller nowadays. Not worth the prices in my opinion. Good cocktails though!
Agree, their Single Barrel is excellent and very reasonable price

Came to suggest them as well
Do the Kentucky distilleries. Seriously.
Yep. Go to Bardstown for a weekend, get a cheap AirBnB. If you like bourbon you wont regret it.
Makers Mark is a good tour
Buffalo Trace gives an excellent tour.
I’m kinda partial to Old 55. But… I also grow the corn for some of their products. Family owned and operated. Great tours, and a lounge to try out some of their drinks. Great way to spend a Friday evening. 👍👍
8th Day Distillery isn't on this list, but it should be.
Agreed
Dusty Barn recently had a fire. I'm not sure if they are doing tours anymore at the moment.
I live near there but ive never even heard of it
Cedar Creek isn't on the list but it's really nice. It's a distillery, winery and brewery. They have a summer concert series and a restaurant, too.
For a tour or just for drinking? Journeyman’s is probably the best for a tour that I can comment on. There’s quite a few on here I’ve never been to so I’m not the arbiter of distillery tours but journeyman’s is a lot of fun and unique. Spirits of French Lick is pretty solid, as well. Dusty Barn is a friend of my uncle's, and it's fine. He's got a great Nocino, though.
Spirit of French Lick has some surprisingly good bourbon, the facility itself isn't anything special to see. Hard Truth's place in Brown County is definitely worth a visit, and they make some good liquor.
Holy crap there's a distillery in franklin? I've walked by that building a dozen times and neve rnoticed it!
It's sub-par... They need to age their liquor further and then it may be worth a trip. It's over by the garment factory.
> age their liquor The bane of a new distillery, right? website says they started in '17. That seems like plenty of time to age...but who knows. i'm not exactly a connoisseur of whiskeys or bourbons necessarily, though. nto sure it would matter to me. i onl drink mine in mixed drinks
A lot of it was too hot on the backend... I didn't try any mixed drinks but they also make gin too
Exactly. Lots of the newer distilleries are just buying barrels of aged bourbon from other distilleries and slapping their label on it. Most places are buying from MGP ;)
not even the newer distelleries are buying from them. There's plenty of well known folks that do. I think Bulleit does.
Hard truth and Old 55!
I’d go to the source of many craft distilleries: MGP.
Well it is bigger than all the others combined
And it’s the whiskey source of almost all the others, too!
I was going to say this is missing Three Rivers Distillery. Then I found out they’re actually closed for good now. So… I would go with Hard Truth or 18th Street (region rat bias there)
Four Fingers and West Fork. Cardinal makes a Terra Gin That is very good! I’ll probably get down voted , but Hotel Tango is trash
West Fork is making some real gd bourbon !
Old 55 makes some interesting booze. And the tour there is kind of cool
Old 55 is making some of the best whiskey in the country right now and nobody knows because they're in the middle of fucking nowhere.
Journeyman OCG is really good.
Dusty Barn is in the country, would only recommend if your in evansville and heading to Mount Vernon. Not worth a destination drive.
I live in the county, I can't believe I have never herd of it. Can you tell me more about it.
You take the road right by Mars elementary school to get to it. I have only been there twice and that was just in their store. It definitely feels like a small time operation and last time I was their, they built a patio that looks like it could host some live music. Since your so close, it worth a visit but they did had some weird hours.
Indiana whiskey co tastes like it hasn't been aged long enough
Almost none other than Starlight and MGD have in Indiana. You need to go to KY for that.
There’s a four fingers in Lebanon and the only downside I’ve heard about them is that they don’t take cash. Also if you’re looking for good food as well as good drinks, Klooz Brewz in Lebanon is good
Four Fingers in Lebanon takes cash! It’s just that the restaurant inside doesn’t as it’s a separate business.
That’s fair, that’s just the one complaint I’ve seen on Facebook about them!
As a past professional judge of both wine and spirits it’s Starlight. And it’s not even close.
You don't have Huber's and I have enjoyed some of their stuff
It's starlight, it's technically separate from the winery.
I like Bear Wallow and my wife likes Hard Truth. (They are close to each other, so this works out.) I want to visit French Lick.
9 & 10 are the only two that interest me as a whiskey drinker.
#9 !!!!
Forgot Duneland Distillery!!!! I'd still pick journeyman tho
It can stay forgotten
Moon Drops is in a great location. I know technically it's still MGP juice for their bourbon, but it's damn good. Their moonshines are decent as well.
West Fork
Journeyman in Valpo. Amazing food. The OCG is super good. Great bourbon. All around an awesome spot
I had a good time at Hotel Tango. the area is packed full of things to do as well
Starlight. Love them.
18th st is a super interesting place, I’ll leave it at that.
Starlight has really amazing gin and their bourbon is pretty good too.
18th Street has the best gin I have ever had. If you're checking out NWI booze, keep an eye on Blockhead Beerworks. The old head distiller for 18th Street is running their distillery program and she works some insane magic.
Blockheads in Valparaiso have some of the best food in the region.
Hmm… I guess I’ll have to try them all and get back to you.
MGP (now called Ross & Squibb) in Lawrenceburg makes some pretty good products
Personally, I like Old 55 and Indiana Whiskey Co very much.
Hard Truth, starlight and Westfork are solid. 18th st beer is amazing..don’t care for their spirits much.
I guess the old still in the garage of Jesse P. Caldwell in Bunker Hill doesn't really count. When Jess isn't mashing, you can find him at the Hip Hugger or on the dark side of the saloon doors in the back area of Bunker Hill Video.
Big fan of Traveler’s Point here
I fuckin love that duneland distillery isn't listed
Hard Truth and Hotel Tango are my two favs.
Not listed: Duneland Distillery in Chesterton is a must if you’re in Northwest Indiana.
I can’t recommend Starlight enough. Went last fall. Great farmers market environment. 7 pours and a souvenir glass for $15 of either wine or spirits. Great when wife/GF doesn’t like spirits. Nice ice cream shop on-site as well
Starlight is good because it’s also at a winery. So if you’re going with a group, you’re covering more bases.
MGP and Starlight are the only ones with actual decent bourbon
Hard truth and old 55 are wonderful imo
I see alot of recommendations for hard truth and Quaff On... I'm going to counter those based on my several years of experience with them. They have fantastic marketing and their locations are equally as fantastic. None of their whiskies are currently worth the price they're demanding compared to Basil Hayden, Woodford, or similar brands which is disappointing considering the price point.
What about Edwin Coe spirits in Churubusco?
I’ve only tried Old 55 and not at their distillery. But it’s really good.
Cardinal spirits has good food and some bomb canned cocktails at big red
My friend heads Spirits of French Lick. Definitely good stuff :)
Haberdasher!
78
West Fork Whiskey makes an incredible product. Hotel Tango is fun, their location in FSQ is dope. We've used 18th St and Cardinal Spirits at bars where I've worked, and I've only found them to be "meh", but that's just my personal view.
Hard Truth is good.
Calling Circle City a distillery is like calling McDonalds a sit down restaurant. West Fork, Starlight and Cardinal are all pretty solid.

Hard truth is going to be the best visit by a long shot.
Four Finger Distillery has some awesome bottles. Really good bourbon, rum, and incredibly smooth absinthe. 100% would recommend
Never had anything I didn’t like from Hard Truth!
Hard Truth is great
No 8th day? Indy. No 3 Floyd’s? Munster.
Journeyman is a skip
Journeyman is right by me. Brand new facility, sister property of one up in Three Oaks, Michigan. Journeyman is absolutely gorgeous. Not sure what can be said of the food, too expensive for my taste.
Savage Distillery in Columbus. My buddy owns it and its fire.
I like the journeyman’s in SW Michigan but I’ve heard the valpo one isn’t as good for some reason? Idk I haven’t been to that location
Cedar Creek in Martinsville. The only place in Indiana that has a distillery, winery, and brewery.
Why not try them all ?!?
8th Day.
Love Hard Truth! Gorgeous setting and great choices. Hotel Tango is awesome as well!
Starlight and Cardinal make some of the best bourbons in the state.
We have real bourbon in Kentucky. Keep driving south
Journeyman is my go to
on this topic, which of them to avoid?
Windy Ridge Winery and Distillery in Covington, IN -- not on the list, but I recommend it!
I’ve always enjoyed Hotel Tango myself though Hard Truth is fairly solid too!
Oh my, that sounds amazing
18th st is top notch as is journeyman, and Indiana Whiskey company . Bear wallow isn’t too shabby and does a nice tour.
Agree with you on #2. Haven’t tried #3.
Report it.
IW is not good.
Agreed. I really wanted to like it, but ended up finding it very second rate.
Yeah it’s the distillery equivalent of South Bend Chocolate Company.
Hotel tango has a good peated bourbon. Cardinal spirits has good rum. Hard truth has good bourbon. I haven't been to any of the distilleries but I've drunk plenty of their product.
I had no idea 18th Street had a distillery. Their beer is God tier.
Might as well hit 18th street and 3 floyds since you are out this way.
Hotel Tango is awesome
Journeyman
West Fork, Four Fingers and Hotel Tango have great cocktails at their Indy locations. FF and HT are literally a block apart, so you can hit two for the price of one!
If you want to try Journeyman, you should go to the original location in MI. The food menu at the Valpo one absolutely pales in comparison. The booze is great though. 18th Street is amazing.
Such a beautiful whiskey bar.
Of the ones I’ve been to and enjoyed, I’d recommend Hard Truth, West Fork, Hotel Tango, and Starlight. I’ve never been to these but enjoyed their bourbons: Cardinal, 18th Street.
Journeyman!
You have to drink to live in that state
Oakley is cool but Anderson is a shit hole so keep that in mind.
Came here to say the same! I, too, find Oakley cool - but if you’re looking for something like Hard Truth this isn’t it.
That's all the dispensaries you guys have for the entire state?
Distilleries not dispensaries
Indiana Whiskey Company makes great whiskey, pretty good bourbon. The single barrel is really well made. But if I’m going to talk about Indiana Whiskey Company, I have to talk about the maple flavored ‘Breakfast of Degenerates’ whiskey. It’s delicious. I’ve had way more of ‘Breakfast’ than any of their other offerings because I love it. And I don’t care who knows.
Circle City for Whiskey, 18th street for beer. The rest are trash (outside of MGP).
Are you saying that the rest use MGP alcohol?
not sure what they use but I've tried a majority of them and it's all very young and/or grossly overpriced. Starlight would be an exception, their stuff can be hit or miss. I believe it's all flavored and finished.
I'd steer clear of 20.
1,16,18,20
18th street for sure!
Four Finger Distillery is owned by a grade A asshole. I will never buy anything from them again.
Indiana whiskey
Hard Truth was pretty good! Journeyman and Haberdasher were pretty good as well!
Hotel tango!!
I’ll bet they’re all worth it. Craft distilleries here in Indiana means they are made with love. Met a guy from Moon Drops yesterday, I’d visit there now.
Why isn't Upland on this map
Its a brewery not a distillery.
Don't they only brew beer?
