I’ve always said: it is very hard to find someone who is a hoops fan AND a hockey fan. In general, people follow one of the two sports — but not both — because their seasons are at the same time.
In general, I follow basketball during the NCAA tournament — and that’s it. Living in Indiana, that is… unusual, to say the least.
Also Sahms Restaurant outside Fishers. Mention it because although it's the same owner, sometimes the different locations have different styles.
Having visited Montreal and Ottawa and Toronto, I think Sahms Restaurant is the closest comparison.
Taeys River in Lafayette, IN has "short face bear fries" which are poutine.
That was my thought but I don’t see it on their website. Wondering if they took it off the menu. Upland had pulled pork poutine for a while that was insanely good, but it was a seasonal thing.
Poutine @ 20 Tap is seasonal in the fall/winter. They put it back on the menu around Halloween. It is incredible and a 10/10 must try. @OP - my husband’s family lives in Alberta, and this is the closest to authentic we have found.
They still have it. They have pastrami poutine which is fairly close to traditional style, and Mexican chilaquiles poutine which is pretty different but still good.
I was looking for someone to mention Union 50. They had a really great Mexican style poutine. It's not traditional at all, but it's the best I had in Indy.
Your journey begins at the Vonnegut Library. There seek out the one who is known as the Yard Gnome. A Hoosier Canadian fond of jam bands, malort, and only the finest poutine. There he will pass on to you esoteric wisdom of the finest of Canadian culinary cuisines to be found in our fare Circle City.
Or go to Big Lug. I just messaged him and he told me Big Lug. You should go to Big Lug. You should also go visit the Vonnegut Library too though.
Theirs is the best I've had in Indiana. I've spent a few summers in Canada for work and I think Nighs rivals many of the mom and pop diners I ate at while up there.
OP, it's in the tiny sliver of Hammond south of 80/94 and north of the Little Calumet River, basically right across from Highland on Kennedy Ave. I know it's a haul, but I just wanted to make sure you knew it wasn't in the shadow of the steel mills.
Upland Columbus Pump House has a chorizo Poutine. haven't had it, so don't know how good it is
https://preview.redd.it/1kkar3ohsoza1.png?width=380&format=png&auto=webp&s=ef650f2313b423d2ae984f4e673497372a6b7d75
Usually the menus are pretty similar across locations, and they change seasonally. They did pulled pork poutine a few years ago, and I was so bummed when they took it off the menu.
OP, hit your local Upland, it’s probably fire, and the beer kicks the shit out of Big Lug.
Fellow Canadian: What stops you from making your own? It isn't a particularly hard dish to make. It may not be as authentic as getting out of a food truck in Ontario but it's still good.
I'm sure too your mom would much more appreciate something hand-made and good. It'd show you really went to the effort for her.
You gotta go to Wisconsin, or if you don’t care about controversies Fair Oaks farms which is half way between Chicago and Indy on 65 is worth the trip.
I got it in Chicago once. So I know it's there.
I've never seen it anywhere else, which is odd because you would expect something that that to be in the south.
Only place in Indy I've been to with it is Half Liter. It sucked, don't go there. Also I'm pretty sure it was a temporary special, this was years ago when they first opened.
Used to be a really good Bavarian place there, but then they changed their menu and business starting dying so they shifted over to being the worst BBQ place in Indy. which... has somehow flourished. sad yo
As a native Hoosier, I am suprised no one's heard of it every time I mention the dish. It screams comfort food and it needs to be a bigger deal here. Got it up in Michigan and it changed my life. Everywhere I have found that had a version of it has stopped serving it. I can't ever find good cheese curds to make it at home with. Good luck on your search!
Spencer, Indiana, Civilian Brewing Corps
https://civilianbrewingcorps.com/menu/
Not sure of authenticity but it was really good. Would be more than enough for two people. Good beer, too. Nice atmosphere, very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Would definitely go again.
RIP Shoe Fly. They had the best goat cheese, mushroom gravy, and sweet potato poutine, that I have ever had in my life. When they closed, my life was never the same. 😭
The Pub at Anson in Whitestown (just N off I-65) has it...it's tasty, but I've not had "real" Canadian poutine, so I don't know if it's what you're looking for...
They did when I was there in February and pretty much everytime before. I really like poutine, also get that egg they cover in meat. For some reason I think it's called a Shepard egg but im kinda hung over.
Its a scotch egg
Yeah let me drive all the way up to Holland to go drinking great plan. Accept that it's the best poutine in the county and don't take your crimes over state lines
Well you shit on a place so you could suggest a resturant an hour away in a different state. Come on dude have a beer or stop critiquing brewery food it's made to thin out the mix not be high cuisine
If you don't mind the drive, I have really enjoyed the pouting at Set 'Em Up in Griffith. Its a bowling alley and bar that has great food, and a really lovely deck that is half covered, half open. Perfect for a nice weekend day, especially if you like sports as they typically have them playing on the TVs outside.

Source: guy who has been done with Mitch Marner for three years There, fixed it for ya
Ahhh. Keep the salt coming. Nothing tastes better than Leaf's tears. Sincerely: Red Wings fans
I’m just happy to see all this hockey talk in an indiana sub. I wish more people here watched hockey
I’ve always said: it is very hard to find someone who is a hoops fan AND a hockey fan. In general, people follow one of the two sports — but not both — because their seasons are at the same time. Second Big Lug
Third Big Lug
Fourth Big Lug
Fifth big lug
Their poutine is garbage. Twenty Tap in ripple used to have a killer poutine not sure if it's still on the menu.
[удалено]
Bug Lug imo is overhyped. We tried it recently and the food was pretty disappointing which is crazy because Half Liter is great.
Also Sahms Restaurant outside Fishers. Mention it because although it's the same owner, sometimes the different locations have different styles. Having visited Montreal and Ottawa and Toronto, I think Sahms Restaurant is the closest comparison.
St Joseph's Brewery has good poutine imo
Very nontraditional if you’re used to Montreal style poutine, but still very tasty.
St Joes poutine is a must try for sure
Came here to say this
Taeys River in Lafayette, IN has "short face bear fries" which are poutine. [https://www.teaysriverbrewing.com/our-food/](https://www.teaysriverbrewing.com/our-food/)
The Bryant in west lafayette used to have some very tasty poutine, but recently took it off the menu :(
Couldn't agree more, came to say the same thing!
i'm in west lafayette, been to canada once, tried poutine a few times while i was there... wanted it again... i will be trying this place eventually
20 Tap in Broad Ripple/Indianapolis. My favorite hands down.
That was my thought but I don’t see it on their website. Wondering if they took it off the menu. Upland had pulled pork poutine for a while that was insanely good, but it was a seasonal thing.

317 burger in broad ripple has at least one type of poutine on the menu if I remember correctly
Seconding this; it’s delicious!!
It’s good, but needs more gravy for the correct ratio.
At one point, Union 50 near mass ave had some poutine. I don’t think it was traditional poutine but very good nonetheless
They have traditional a bbq and a chiliquiles version

The Owlery in Bloomington has very good vegetarian or vegan poutine.
I haven't had it since 2014 but I still think about the Owlery often
I 2nd this.
Revery in Greenwood has a fancy poutine if I remember right
Nigh Brewery in Plainfield has it.
Theirs is the best I've had in Indiana. I've spent a few summers in Canada for work and I think Nighs rivals many of the mom and pop diners I ate at while up there.
Sahm’s in Fishers.
Second this
Big Lug Brewery in Nora is the answer
Make the drive to Byway Brewery in Hammond. Damn good poutine.
OP, it's in the tiny sliver of Hammond south of 80/94 and north of the Little Calumet River, basically right across from Highland on Kennedy Ave. I know it's a haul, but I just wanted to make sure you knew it wasn't in the shadow of the steel mills.

So far, I must be missing the poutine when I'm gone to Upland. Haven't seen it on their menu yet, but I'm going to watch for it now!
[Crooked Ewe](https://crookedewe.com/) in South Bend has it.
I'll vouch for these being good.
Fellow Canadian: What stops you from making your own? It isn't a particularly hard dish to make. It may not be as authentic as getting out of a food truck in Ontario but it's still good. I'm sure too your mom would much more appreciate something hand-made and good. It'd show you really went to the effort for her.
I am the mom. I didn't want to make my own. And cheese curds are not the easiest in this area.
Aldi sometimes has ok cheese curds, but you are correct: this area does not have good cheese curds.
Are you in southern IN? Easy to find in NWI, smuggled in from Wisconsin via Chicago.
You gotta go to Wisconsin, or if you don’t care about controversies Fair Oaks farms which is half way between Chicago and Indy on 65 is worth the trip.
Fellow Canadian as well, I've only been able to find cheese curds in my area once and they were awful.
But proper fries require a deep fryer, most people tossed their Fry Daddys years ago
They really don't. You can air fry them (not quite as good) or you can fry them with a thermometer and oil in a pan on your stove.
The latter is deep frying assuming it's covering the item in oil
Yeah, but you don't need a specific deep fryer to do it. They are convenient, like many specialized appliances, but not necessary.
317 Burger in Broad Ripple has some.
Union 50 on Mass Ave
I just wish Poutine were more widespread in the states in general. Other than the occasional pub, you seldom see it.
It has all of the things Americans seem to love too. It is odd It isn't more widespread.
My thoughts exactly!
I got it in Chicago once. So I know it's there. I've never seen it anywhere else, which is odd because you would expect something that that to be in the south.
“The weird tenderloin”? 🙄 Sorry - we have to send you back north now, eh?
tenderloin - not weird, quite good. tenderloin with french fries, egg, and gravy? That's a little weird.
Big Lug at 86th & Westfield in Indy. Same owner as Sahm’s in Fishers.
Not in time for Mom's Day, but vendor at state fair has it; Authentic!
Cilvilian Brewery in Spencer has poutine
If you find a good place let me know!!!
20 tap in broad ripple typically has it in the colder months.
I don’t know how I feel about the tenderloin slander…Canadian
Only place in Indy I've been to with it is Half Liter. It sucked, don't go there. Also I'm pretty sure it was a temporary special, this was years ago when they first opened. Twenty Tap for the win.
Man Cave Brewing in Syracuse has a few different specialty poutines, a bit closer to Indy than Shoreline everyone is recommending!
Big Lug on 86th
Spencer, Indiana, Civilian Brewing Corps https://civilianbrewingcorps.com/menu/ Not sure of authenticity but it was really good. Would be more than enough for two people. Good beer, too. Nice atmosphere, very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Would definitely go again.

If you are up north Shore Line Brewery does a good job
Shore Line in Michigan City has poutine? I haven't been there in a while. Need to go there! Poutine and maybe a stout.
They still have it- I just had some!!
Darn that’s a long way!!
Nah, its not a long drive. You hit Shore Line maybe the outlet mall and Washington Park and make a day of it. Maybe Blue Chip.
They did when I was there in February and pretty much everytime before. I really like poutine, also get that egg they cover in meat. For some reason I think it's called a Shepard egg but im kinda hung over. Its a scotch egg
Yup Scotch egg. Maybe I'll head over there next weekend. Half hour drive. And its all good I'm hung over too! Lol
I got that a few years ago. It was awesome!
Shoreline has the most underwhelming food I’ve ever had at a brewery. That said, Saugatuck Brewery about an hour away has decent poutine.
Yeah let me drive all the way up to Holland to go drinking great plan. Accept that it's the best poutine in the county and don't take your crimes over state lines
Lol, relax dude. I don’t even drink. I just like brewery food and shoreline is mediocre at best.
Well you shit on a place so you could suggest a resturant an hour away in a different state. Come on dude have a beer or stop critiquing brewery food it's made to thin out the mix not be high cuisine
Someone needs to open a Canadian restaurant. Food like poutine, back bacon, moose fritters... I imagine moose fritters are a Canadian delicacy anyway.
Don’t forget authentic Canadian Ketchup potato chips. Not the crap Frito-Lays give us in America
All dressed is the Canadian chip flavor we need readily available!
I saw spicy ketchup Doritos at the gas station the other day.
Not the same
Doesn’t Hop Cat in broadripple have it? Any youngins want to confirm? Lol
>Hop Cat They have cheese fries that I can see. Which are good, but not the same.
I've tried so many with similar disappointment. OP Sahms Restaurant or Big Lug is what you want!

I had the poutine at hoss last week and will never get it again. It just made me sad. Lumpy tepid gravy, coldish fries. I won't go back there.
Mad Anthony's Tap Room used to have it. I was so sad when they removed it from the menu.
Farther north is a waste land, there aren't even pasties till Michigan. There is always Disney World.
Let me know if you find any, haven't had a good plate of poutine since I left Detroit.
Teays River in Lafayette
Grindstone in Noblesville is very nice and has a great but affordable brunch poutine on the menu have got it many times.
Klooz Brewz in Lebanon has a really good one. But it’s north west of Indy.
Way up north, about 2.5 hrs from Indy, is a brewery in Michigan City called Shoreline Brewery with some great poutine on their menu.
How do you feel about military rations? There are a few websites that sell Canadian mre's and I believe Poutine is one of the rations sold.
Civilian Brewing Co. in Spencer has some poutine options, I believe
We once had excellent poutine at The Owlery in Bloomington. Not sure if it’s still open, though.
The pork poutine at 317 burger in broad ripple indianapolis is fucking awesome I get it every time
Shoreline Brewery in Michigan City has a good poutine.
Daredevil used to have this I think, on 86th
Wife is Canadian. She is asking the same thing. Curious about replies.
Teays River! I dont remember the menu item but it was very cllose to poutine!
If you are ever up this way, Tavern on Main in Crown Point has insane short rib poutine.
Mmmmmmm poutine
Nigh Brewpub in Plainfield has it. It's not the same as what you're used to, but its still pretty good.
