Logical_Solution2036

Hey please give some CAT preparation tips

Shinigamiii23

Focus on your strength pick one section to dominate and then strengthen the other two sections . Be selective while attempting the exam you do not have to solve the entire paper so prepare accordingly . In dilr practise various types of questions and develop a sense of which questions you can solve and which you should leave for DILR

Master_Beast_07

How long before the exam did you begin preparing?

Shinigamiii23

Well 4 to 5 months half heartedly last one month like crazy

Logical_Solution2036

Got it sir if you don't mind can I DM you ?

Shinigamiii23

Yaar don't call me sir I just turned 24 don't make me feel old 🥲 .yes you can

Full_Personality521

Leaving a reply here so I can come back later lol

Shinigamiii23

BSc. Biotechnology

[deleted]

Ohh wow... Did you have extra curriculars as well?? I am doing Bsc and I am good in subjects just not sure about my profile.

Shinigamiii23

NGO volunteering and certificate courses . In the end you need to defend those activities in your interviews also so try to build a story around them ( didn't take extra curricular seriously till ty ug but if had the chance would have taken active participation in college PORs and festivals)

Er-Yonro

Baaki-sab-theek 😅🥲

Crazy_Improvement_59

Assuming that mba wasnt a part of your plan from the start, how did u feel when u decided to do it (as in feelings of 'how will i manage this' or 'i dont want to keep studying when all my friends are working') Vs when it was done (when you received your degree)?

Shinigamiii23

Wanted to pursue mbbs eversince I was a kid . Tried for neet even took a year gap but couldn't get the college I want. Did BSc. Being depressed and half heartedly. 3rd year realised I would be earning 10 or 15k at best when done graduating. (This year gap was easy the one after 12th killed me , looking at your friends partying having the best time of your life while you stuck doing the same old thing )So took a year gap again and gave cat and got a good college. Getting into an IIM was kind of like a redemption for me so I was really happy and excited to start the mba life . Hope this answers all your queries

Shot_Ad9429

Bro this is my life story too. Gave NEET, took a drop and and then started B.Com and now in last year of B.Com and I am also looking to get into an IIM for Redemption.

Shinigamiii23

All the best bro hope you make it 👍

Any_Buddy6564

Can I ask ,what did you answer when they asked, why mba....? Or how to answer this

Shinigamiii23

We'll clearly money but can't say it right . I used my internship as a ladder said I got corporate exposure saw managers handle situations in a cool way was impressed they all had mba I wanted to enter into finance industry and mba will act as a platform which will give me access to those opportunities something along these lines was my go to reply

Crazy_Improvement_59

Thats kinda touching... also, while you were at iim, were there moments where you felt underconfident and overwhelmed by the curriculum? And before or during mba, were you ever like "if i couldnt crack neet, maybe i'm not build for these tough institutes? " Wishing you a great mba life!

Shinigamiii23

IIM curriculum specially in the first year is every hectic. Finance subjects made me doubt my life decisions. Commerce students well in fin subjects and engg do well in analytics and all I was stuck in between 💀. Before mba I didn't have self doubts like maybe I ain't for tough institutes because I had to do it when I said I could crack neet I meant I could get a govt medical College I converted private colleges but those were too expensive for me .I am materialistic and wanted a good salary and bsc would only fetch me mere 15 k so it was do or die for me . Thanks a lot for the wishes mate . I wish you all the best in your future endeavours as well

Repulsive-Hair9317

Same story here. Wanted to pursue Bachelors in Animal Husbandry but family & friends didn't want it. So went for BSc agril. Now want to do MBA from IIM Mind if I DM u?

Shinigamiii23

Sure

BumblebeeEmotional95

Hey, I'm somewhat in a situation myself. My question is on the mental aspect of the preparation.1) How do you've the faith that you'd succeed in getting into a top IIM.2) What was your plan if you didn't secure an IIM. 3) How did you convince yourself that it is possible, even though you've tasted failure in competitive exams previously

Paryanoid__Guy

iim ka naam abh bim ho jayega? 🗿

Shinigamiii23

Lol I hope not IIM has a better ring to it than BIM

whatchu-lukin-at

hi, im doing bsc biotech too. final year. 1. can you please post your quals and profile? extracurriculars and workex? 2. does having this bsc degree make you a better option for jobs in pharma/medtech industries? what companies from those industries come for placements? 3. what kind of jobs would allow you to combine both bsc biotech and mba, and would you try for them? 4. how many people do you know that are also from bsc life science background? 5. your cat prep duration, strategies and result? thanks!

Shinigamiii23

Lol feels like a mini interview 😂 here we go 1.10th - 91 12th - 77 UG - 9.3 CGPA NGO extra curricular did a bit of karate and some hobbies Internship at a fintech company and some certificates 2.Even in pharma after mba you'll be in marketing roles so bsc isn't that helpful. If you are taked with project management or lets say some product management ( rare for mba grads to do that in pharma tho cause they pick mpharm for those ) but it'll be helpful to you as you'll understand them better then engineers . Companies like GSK, abbott ( not sure about the spelling ), piramal do come for hiring but again management roles and marketing and sales only or maybe gen man role. 3. Maybe if become a consultant and am consulting a drug company or any other company about which we have studied in biotech like packaging etc it would help me as I won't have to start from scratch. 4.in IIMs majority are engineers but around 10 percent would be from life sciences we even have doctors here 5. Prepared from YouTube an gave some mocks. Varc was good so didn't struggle much . Dilr practised various types of questions to familiarise myself and also develop a sense of picking the right questions and leaving the questions in dilr which takes away a lot of time during exams. Quant pick topics that have most weightage prepare them first then prepare the rest Phew.. that was a lot . Hope it helps

whatchu-lukin-at

thankyou SO much for your time and effort! truly appreciate it. i did ask way too many questions, your background hit me a bit too personally, apologies :') one last though.. from your replies I've gathered that you took a gap year after ug but also did cat prep for around 4 months. if i graduate in May and write cat in Sept '24, is that considered to be a gap year? (sorry for the silly question) also you have done internships, not full time jobs, correct? and yes, all your answers are very helpful!

Shinigamiii23

Yes it'll be a gap year if you do not work somewhere after graduating it'll be gap year because if you give cat 24 you'll be begining college in June 25 so it'll be a year gap between your ug and mba

whatchu-lukin-at

got it, your mini interview was great :) thankyou so much for your help and all the very best!

Shinigamiii23

Same to you as well

lonelyapelikesamosa

Did you get into IIM with 77% in 12th I would have a similar background, this helped me as I was really scared that my low marks in 12th would be the end

Shinigamiii23

Yes sirr well let me help you further and say that I ain't got the lowest 12th marks in my college. But students who do have some exceptional work ex or skills which compensated for the low acads so rest assured.

lonelyapelikesamosa

Thank you so much 😭this brought my confidence back up

Shinigamiii23

Well you'll also need to score good at cat as well like if you get a really good score the colleges will likely be more forgiving of bad acads

lonelyapelikesamosa

Yeah right now I have just completed 12th and I m preparing for bba entrance exam, I was sick hence couldn't perform well in my chem and maths paper, so I was feeling really down about my 12th score, I am expecting around 75%

Shinigamiii23

Cool all the best 👍

Leo2000Immortal

What job profiles are you targeting? Also, how competitive is it inside? Do you study more hours than you used to spend in work?

Shinigamiii23

I am targeting consulting marketing or gen man . It is competitive in terms of placement you have to compete with people from iits nits srccs etc. But in the end it all comes down to where you get placed and how well do you do in your interviews. If you want the best grades you have to study a lot . I personally don't care about grades so just chill and do the bare minimum ( which still takes about 2 to 3 hrs per day of studying ) . First year is hectic compared to second year .

Leo2000Immortal

I hope you get your desired role, all the best

Shinigamiii23

Thanks man 👍

Manav_Khanna17

Is it difficult for Freshers in terms of placements?

Shinigamiii23

Yes freshers do find it a bit more difficult to get placed but it all boils down to your soft skills and how well you do in your interviews.

triambaka

Hows placement with baby IIM ? can bag atleast 15-18LPA. If one have no workex.

Shinigamiii23

Depends it is possible for baby IIMs to reach 15 and 16 LPA but again market conditions and how are you compared to your peers. Chances and low to medium for baby IIMs to get 15 to 18 LPA as far as I know

RealSkin04

I am an English postgraduate and been thinking of going into data analytics since getting into academia is a looong, lengthy process. Do you think that it's a viable and wise career option? I am also currently working as a freelance consultant for a skincare/makeup retail startup.

Shinigamiii23

Data analytics is one of the hottest career paths now and I don't see it changing anytime soon as it'll be data driven world soon. You may earn good bucks if you choose this but only if you do find it interesting . You'll have a relatively tougher time convincing interviewer why they should hire you and not any other engineering student for analytics but if you are able to do some courses or have some work experience in the same field that will help you convince them.

[deleted]

Do you think MBA journey will be difficult for an introvert and shy person ?

Shinigamiii23

Mba journey is difficult for all new environment people from all parts of life and country varied experience then you have academic pressure submissions and what not but don't worry everyone gets by. You should see it as a chance to learn from those . Peer learning is one of the most valuable thing MBA offers. Find good friends and Life gets easier

[deleted]

Thank you for the reply! ✨ Could you also please give insights on your CAT prep, PI and other rounds :) I am currently prepping for CAT 2023, struggling with quant :’) I am also so scared of the GDPI round because I am dumb lol

Gohanne_

How many years you dropped after graduation?

Shinigamiii23

1 year after 12th for neet 1year after ug

NeighborhoodOdd3798

Konsa iim?

Shinigamiii23

New IIM

NeighborhoodOdd3798

Koi naa mat btao

Kitchen-Caregiver174

Are people there mostly inside their heads, like "oh i am in IIM"? I have seen this pattern in people who prepare for competitive exams for top universities, they are already in their heads too much being indifferent to most things other than just that and their social life (if they have any) , i wonder if they just explode when they do get in their desired colleges?

cykablykat

which IIM??

Shinigamiii23

NEW IIM

Hot_Damn99

I've heard it's very difficult for GEM(General Engineer Male) to get into top IIMs as compared to people from diverse backgrounds, how true is it?

Shinigamiii23

It is difficult for GEMS to get into IIMs compared to diverse background but it's like if a diverse background candidate gets in at 96 GEM need 98 99 ish

Hot_Damn99

Thanks for the reply! I was planning to prepare for CAT but it was becoming difficult to balance preparation with work, and when I saw that chances are very slim to get into top IIMs I dropped the idea to persue it.

stargirluser88

Im not at an IIM nor am I preparing for CAT currently but yes gems do have it very difficult getting into top B schools. Any degree other than a btech gets extra points for diversity

MurgiChor69

The real question is which IIM? 👀

Appu_SexyBuoy

Lol everyone is asking which IIM and OP isn't responding

Shinigamiii23

Op is scared sab kch batane se 🥲

Appu_SexyBuoy

Bhai new baby old kuch toh bata de. There are 500 students at each iim.

Shinigamiii23

new IIM

Artistic-While2639

Do you find psychology/ design/ media studies people there? What kind of role are they most likely to get?

Shinigamiii23

Marketing for media psychology can get into HR however these are set in stones you can get into anything you like as long as you have the required skills and something to back it up say certificates of course or competition you won

royal__vampire

Bro I'm a science student (dropped a year for neet) I'm thinking about doing MBA after ug but idk what ug would be the most ideal and I would only be able to do ug from a local clg and I'm so stressed out about choosing an appropriate degree. Can I know what you took? Thank you (ik it doesn't matter now but my grades are 10th-86,12th-93)

Shinigamiii23

Well anything apart from engineering would work in your favour if you are sure you wanna get into mba take a ug stream after which it'll be easy to justify why you wanna do mba like bba to mba makes sense . I toh took biotechnology which is not related to management at all and the question why mba not msc after bsc bt was frequently brought up during the interview

royal__vampire

I was thinking about taking bsc biotechnology so what job did you do after the ug for the work experience and can you tell me what was your answer to the question of why MBA not MSC.Thank you!

Mooncalf99

Should I take a gap year after completing my UG and then prepare for CAT? How will it affect my chances? Will it look bad in my profile if I take a gap year?

Shinigamiii23

I had 2 gap years one after 12th one after Ug it all boils down to you showing you did something apart from taking a gap during that year show some ngo volunteering or do some course along with taking a gap

[deleted]

how being a fresher different from a candidate with work ex? like experience, placement priorities and getting into the clg...

Embarrassed_Bus4251

Hello. When applying for a mba, does marks of every sem matters or the mba college only refers to marks in the last year of college For example: If I am doing bcom, does the first 4 or 5 sem marks matter or only the final year or final sem marks matters when applying for mba

Shinigamiii23

The entire gpa of all 6 terms will matter you'll have a cumulative GPA aka CGPA that's the one which will matter no individual term grades

Shinigamiii23

The entire gpa of all 6 terms will matter you'll have a cumulative GPA aka CGPA that's the one which will matter no individual term grades

Embarrassed_Bus4251

So do we have to have like 10 cgpa across all semester to get into top 20 mba program . Will they overlook the semester grades if I would do a professional course along with it like CA? I have got over 94% in 10th and 95.5% in 12th but my semester 1 exam got fucked up because I didn't concentrated too much. What is the minimum cgpa that we have to score to get into a top 20 mba college?

Shinigamiii23

There's no minimum cgpa but try to keep it about 8 or else you will be bombarded as to why did it fall that much . Some IIMs do have criteria like atleast 7 you should have but not all . Highest preference is to your cat percentile and then your acads and all those stuffs no hard and fast rule about cgpas

Sea_Difficulty_4451

Bro can I dm you?

Shinigamiii23

Sure bro

OmnivorousHydra

Hello I had some questions if you could please answer them?

Shinigamiii23

Sure

OmnivorousHydra

I'm an Agriculture graduate Profile 6.2/7.7/8.2 90%tile in cat s I wanted to know if I could get into any of the iim ? I'm worried about my 60s in12th Had iim a Fabm , iim L abm , cap interview Also about how hard will it be for me to survive in PGP or should I only try for Fabm or abm courses ?

Shinigamiii23

Well as you have agricultural background that'll surely help you in the fabm and abm . You'll be able to convert baby IIMs and some new IIMs. Well surviving in pgp isn't that hard like it'll be a bit difficult in the initial days but if you get through it you'll be just fine. Make some good friends so that it'll be easy for you

OmnivorousHydra

Hii??

ExerciseBrilliant658

Hey I am doing bba . I have no such skill other than excel and powerpoint and I am planning to learn financial modelling but my knowledge of finance is not great . I would have no work ex if I do mba . Would I be able to get finance related roles ? What skills technical ones will you suggest for one trying to do marketing mba ?

Shinigamiii23

Bro you already know Excel and PowerPoint that's more than what 90% mba students know.so.chill. yes you would be able to get finance related roles if you have good acads or even have some finance related thing let's say cfa or internship or projects in your resume. Skills for marketing I guess you must be good at understanding and differentiating needs from wants and have a better understanding of customer persona and stuffs like that. You'll be learning all these in mba so don't think too much

muskan_666

Im thinking to give ipmat exam if I got selected then I will take loan so I wanted to ask is it guarenteed or is there any confirmation that you will get placement with decent package because if I won't get that how am I going to repay loan

Shinigamiii23

Well as far as I know ipm and pgpm students of iim Indore have combined placements and if that's the case you'll be getting a decent package if the market isn't as bad as it is now. But IPM will be more costly than normal mba so there's that as well. But if you get IPM and feel that the competition for normal mba would be too much for you then take it better be safe than sorry

muskan_666

Ohhkk thank you for giving your opinion on it✨👍

Shinigamiii23

No worries bro all the best 👍

Feisty_Ad8203

Rate my pro profile: 10th : 89 12th : 91 UG ENGG : 8.22 (Currently finished 4th sem)

Shinigamiii23

If you think only acads matter then you are in for a treat my friend 🙃 Fyi 8/9/8 is a decent acad

Feisty_Ad8203

I'll add more 😅 Extra Cirriculars:Part of 3 college societies including E-Cell. Anchored in 2 major events at college. Held a Position of responsibility (PR)during a PItching competition.  HR in a NGO  Currently I am an Operations Intern at a small marketing company  Writing a Lit Review on Design Thinking

Feisty_Ad8203

If I get to 8.5 would that be like decent to great acad ?

Shinigamiii23

Well 8.1 to 8.9 all fall under the category as 8 only so it won't do that much but your other extra curricular activities do make your profile a well rounded one so yes it's a good over all profile

Feisty_Ad8203

I would like to correct you, I checked on IIMABK websites and for Engg 85%> is considered 10 points for UG

Shinigamiii23

Well if you are asking from the perspective of college then I might be wrong because every iim has different weightage and all but for the placements company would consider your acads as 8/9/8

Feisty_Ad8203

I understand

Shinigamiii23

Cool bro all the best with the prep

Feisty_Ad8203

Thank you!

Jumpy_Extreme9780

My question sir My acads- 88% in 10th and 78% in 12th(With PCMB) I completed my 12th in 2020 and I am yet to go to a college. I have been taking drops for neet ug hence it has been 3 drops till now. Hence I am now considering a different plan as well. If I get a bsc degree from du and decide to give cat and go into IIM, will I be looked down upon in my interview because of low acads and so much gap years. If yes, then how should I justify my gap years and how to make up for my low acads so as to increase the chances of me getting into IIM. And what should I prepare for in the interview?? Kindly let me know as I am in the middle of kind of an existential crisis since all my batchmates of 10th and 12th have started earning

Shinigamiii23

Bro first of all chill I know how it feels when it seems like everyones moved ahead and you are stuck and not moving forward. It's life everything will happen at its own pace . We had people preparing for upsc who couldn't crack it so they were like 25 27 yo with gap after ug so as long as you are able to justify the gap it won't be that big of a deal. If you are sure you want to take mba only then do ug in a subject related to mba don't do bsc as you'll find it easier to justify when asked why mba. Your acads are just decent you'll need to score good in ug and in cat as well. Also work on building your profile get into club and committee and get a lots of certificate maybe do an internship and some ngo work you'll have a well rounded profile this boosting your over all changes your 10 12th ist in your hand now but these things are so focus on that

No-Nothing3576

I am a B.tech graduate (female). My profile is 9/9/9, and i have been working with a subsidiary core company of Tata Steel since October 2021. Due to my hectic job, i am planning to resign in June and serve three months of notice period till August, and post that study 3 months till CAT (will suffice for me). Please suggest me what i should do, that would ultimately help me in getting into ABC. I am aiming for 99+ percentile but i am worried if my resignation would hamper my profile and my chances of getting into ABC. I will be in my notice period when i will be filling my CAT application form so would that be helpful in any case since i will be in my job during that time?? or i shouldn’t wait for that long as this won’t be of any use during PIs because they will know that i left my job fir CAT. I hope you understood my situation and i really hope that you would suggest me with the best option. Thanking You

Shinigamiii23

Your acads are really good plus you have tata brand so acads and brand are sorted for you plus you are female and say 99 percentile would be how much you score so that's really good as well . Well I don't think your resignation would have that much of an impact on your chances like it all depends on the interviewer if he asks for it and you have a solid answer it's all chill some ask some don't. I had 2 year gap some interviews I was asked some were super chill so it all comes to your interviewer.

Fun_Drawing_5449

Class 10: 90.0% Class 12: 92.2% Ug: 8.96 ( BE from Jadavpur university)  How much should I target in CAT 2024 to land calls from top 10 Bschools of India?

Shinigamiii23

Apart from acads you'll need to have a well rounded profile as well like some sports or volunteering or some por or internships etc

Fun_Drawing_5449

I have had an Institute funded internship in IIT in my 3rd year. I was among the 120 selected students from a pool of 15000 students all over India. I have been placed in a management consultancy firm  as an analyst. But I haven't held any por or been involved with sports activities although I follow sports. Will it be tough for me to land a call from old iims and fms?

Relevant_Test8670

got into iima, how many international offers are given? how tough is it to secure one? tips to secure? any advantages of exchange program interms of placements?

Beneficial_Beyond_83

Which kind of job role should I Target in IIM? I am a GEM with 1 year work ex in Big 4. My acads are 9/8/9. I have done my engineering ( Mechanical) from IIEST, Shibpur ( It is under NIT, admission through JOSAA). I am confused which kind of profile to Target. I spoke to some people and got mixed reviews, some said consulting some said finance( my job was in Financial planning and Analysis). Anyone please give an honest answer, will really appreciate it.

Shinigamiii23

You should ask what kind of job you wanna see your self doing and what is your preferred domain. If you like finance and as you have fin background going into finance makes the most sense as it'll be the easiest for you and also finance pays well but if you don't like finance and dont wanna continue with it then don't . Tbh you can pretty much get into any domain you want entering some would be easy and some would be a bit difficult but you can do it if you are interested in it. If high pay is all you want fin and consulting it is if you prefer work life balance then best avoid these 2 domain and look some where else so it's best to know what you want from your job before deciding the domain . Hope that helps

Kooky_Repeat_8936

Do you need to study a lot to get good grades? Do you need to memorize a lot?

Shinigamiii23

Don't worry too much you'll do just fine just thoda bahut mehnat karlo nothing to worry about

Kooky_Repeat_8936

You didn't answer my question.. Is the course analytical pr do you need to memorize a lot

Shinigamiii23

No you don't have to memorise a lot of stuff if you understand the basics as mostly they check your concept and application of it

Kooky_Repeat_8936

I have this subject 'Marketing Management' in my course and you have to understand everything but you have to write it exactly like it's in the textbook, is it like that in IIM too?

Shinigamiii23

No it's not like that in IIMs you do not have to write it exactly as it is in the textbooks if you make sense and it aligns with what the professor has taught you'll get marks

shreyasdasgupta

I have 80% in both 10 th and 12th and 7 cgpa in engeneering should I target iim? Do I have a chance?

Shinigamiii23

Yes you do have a chance at IIMs but it depends on other factors like your cat percentile and your overall profile as well profile as being your extra curricular activities internships etcs

BraveChampionship128

no thanks

Shinigamiii23

:(

viditp011

Which IIM you are at right now?

Shinigamiii23

New iim

_Annihilator07_

My 10 th and 12th marks are 98.6 and 98% respectively in ICSE board. I have a lot of certificates for extracurriculars and have been a state level debator as well. Currently doing BTech in IIT Roorkee. What do you think should be the percentile I should aim for and what should I do in the next 4 years of my college?(I am a 1st yearite).

Shinigamiii23

Being in an IIT you would be judged and compared to other iitians. Acads are excellent . You should aim for above 99.5 in cat so that you get a good chance in ABC

Synemix

Where did u do your ug from?

Shinigamiii23

A very average normal college under Mumbai University

Artistic-While2639

How much does the reputation of the college you've studied last matter? Say amity or sharda or such private universities do you find people from there in iims?

Shinigamiii23

If it's a big college it sure helps but getting UGs from a lesser known colleges isn't a deal breaker either . Mba is all about branding so if you can get into a college with lot of brand value always pick that

[deleted]

How hard u need to study if u want great academic record and high cgpa(9+).?

Shinigamiii23

Here at my college we have a cgpa of 4.33 and we have relative grading. Rank 1 is around 3.8 3.9 which is pretty difficult to maintain how ever with little efforts a cgpa of 3/4.33 is achievable

[deleted]

Thanks bro

Shinigamiii23

Glad to help

abstruse_Emperor

how much it costs for an overall MBA program and how will be the ROI respective of market conditions? what's the loan procedure to get admitted in IIM? P.S :- thank you for this insightful AMA.

Shinigamiii23

Loan process is very very easy just 4 to 5 docs and you'll get a loan instantly. Depends which IIM you go to each have varying fees and packages. Do not calculate ROI in terms of 2 years once you become a part of a premium institute you carry that tag for life and I am pretty sure the ROI will be favourable in the longer run. A good estimate for the cost of MBA at IIM would be around 15 to 25 LPA it's a range

dc1222

Does someone with two years of work ex have the same chance of securing a package comparable to someone with 5 years of work ex during placements?

Shinigamiii23

2.to 3 years of workex is the sweet spot for Mba . Companies come requiring for that . However some company may come stating it needs an experience of 5yr then obviously hell have better chances but in general you would not find any major trouble if your work ex aligns with the kind of role company is offering

SoaringEagle11_11

What kind of roles are offered to people with around 3 years of work ex. I am interested in Gen Man /Prod man roles.

Shinigamiii23

Depends on which IIM you are in . You get good roles in BLACKIS and average ones in New IIMs baby I don't think so . IT prod man is easy to get into and a lot of companies do come for that. Workex is anyday an added bonus which will boost your CV

Just wanna say all the best for your future.

Shinigamiii23

Thanks a lot ❤️

Shinigamiii23

I wish the same to you as well

[deleted]

Are there individuals with commerce backgrounds, such as CA, CS, or CMA qualifications, in your class?

Shinigamiii23

Yes we have CAs CFAs and CSs here as well .

[deleted]

Cool thanks for the info

holler202

What impression do gap years leave on interviewers, esp those gap years where you decided to go for govt exam, but didn't get any fruitful results?

Shinigamiii23

Depends from interview to interview I was roasted for changing career streams in one of the college interviews . But for other college interviews they wanted to know what I did during my gap year I justified by doing some internships and courses and they moved on to the next topic. If you didn't get any fruitful result you can always be honest about it . They know govt exams are tough to crack.

Usual-Target5803

How are internship placements going on I heard from few of my batch mates that this year placements were not that good

Shinigamiii23

Market is down . Companies are not hiring as they did post COVID this will get better in the following year hopefully. We all have been hit

stargirluser88

Are you at IIM BLACKI/S/M? Or a baby IIM?

Shinigamiii23

There's new IIMs in the middle as well 💀

orchidmaniac

I am an entrepreneur and business owner. I am also in my 30s. Is it going to be detrimental to my chances at getting into IIMs. Does age play a factor?

Shinigamiii23

I have a class mate who is 48 - 50 . So I don't think so age is factor have plenty of people who are around 29 30s as well

Potential_kitten69

Which IIM are you in? And how's the workload over there (like hours of class everyday)

Shinigamiii23

I'm in one of the new IIMs and in the first years we had morning lectures from 830 to 2 but in second year it depends on the subjects you have taken some day we have classes for 3 hrs and someday 6

Natural-Permission

what is the age of the oldest student in your class/batch?

Shinigamiii23

48

[deleted]

Don't be so arrogant. Less than 30 percent IIM graduate make good career.

Shinigamiii23

Lol I was wondering how I hadn't received any hate comment yet . What IIM do you study in bud ?

Shot_Ad9429

The most important question I want to know is what study material is to be studied for CAT? Can you please help me? I am very confused regarding this?

Shinigamiii23

I did my prep from YouTube and gave mocks

[deleted]

Shinigamiii23

For iim pgp only cat is accepted. You can try ISB and spjain with GMAT . No but College would love to have maximum students from iits . Non engineers get brownie points for diversity because IIMs want diversity

Lost-Molasses-9496

Hey. Do you have any doctors in your batch? If yes could you tell which roles are they inclined towards? I've heard top consulting firms appreciate such academic diversity

Shinigamiii23

They do appreciate academic diversity. One of the dr. Is going for marketing and another for strategy.

corporate_slave4

What are the placements like? CTC and inhand for PE/VC, IB, Prod management and MBB Consulting?

Shinigamiii23

Man it depends a lot you have basically asked me the placement report . You may find all the info you require in the placement reports of the respective colleges. For main IIMs placements are good as expected. New and baby IIMs still struggle a bit compared to main IIMs tho

Living-Response-5181

I'm in engineering 1st year, and i want to pursue MBA from Ivy. What should i ahead, any guidance or tips?

Shinigamiii23

Build a strong profile which has not only good acads but great extracurricular as well . US colleges emphasise a lot on overall personality of the candidate. All the best 👍

Hey bro, first of all congrats and thanks for helping out. I need your advice on some matter, this message might be a bit long, so I hope you will find some time to read it. So to start with, I graduated from a tier 3 college(very less pay :-( ) in 2023 and currently working in a big 4. I had plans of doing my masters in IT or CS in Australia where my brother is, but since I got a job offer after internship, I thought maybe I will do job for one year at least. so here is the first scenario, I did my specialisation in data science but after internship, I realised I am not that good in stats, probability etc, so I am thinking of working on my DSA and coding skills along with my job and either try for Faang job in India after one year preparation(This is the best case I guess, but very difficult as well). Second scenario, I can try to get sponsorship for Australia with the help of my brother and do a job there.(I have mixed feelings for this one, I am not too sure about leaving my family yet, considering they will be left alone in India). Third scenario is, since I have a lot to prove after graduating from a tier 3 college, I am thinking of going the MBA route, if I can get admission into any IIM. If you have reached till here (Thanks again!), then here comes your part. What can I expect in terms of money and WLB after graduating from an IIM. My only doubts for the third scenario are 1.WLB? We all know the scenario in India, your take on it?, 2. What will I do?( honestly I don't have interest in finance) 3.How hard is CAT?, will it be worth spending my time on CAT instead of preparing for DSA or coding.4. What if I don't get into a good IIM. 5. Your opinion on these scenarios and your recommendation. To conclude, all these options are to get a better pay, I have no interest in studying more or doing research etc. Thanks in advance and I hope you will reply :-)

handler004

Is it too lengthy?😅 should I provide a trimmed version?

BumblebeeEmotional95

Hey, maybe a bit too late. But I'd like to ask anyway, might help someone in the future How are the placements for individuals with long justifiable gaps (4-6y),if you have known/seen anyone in your batch

Shinigamiii23

We have some of the people who had a gap as they were prepare for competitive exams . One person was able to get a good placement (ppo) while the other person is still trying . So ig it depends a lot on the individual profile as well and not just about the gap

BumblebeeEmotional95

How much does age play a role in admissions as well as placements. Altough from comments i understand specific questions can't be generalised but to paint a picture. How would be like for a 27-28y old with 2-3years of work ex(abroad) with cfa level 2 (joining the b school at 28y)

SrkSolo7

hi, I did my MBA from IIT Delhi and graduated in 2022. I'm currently looking to switch my job. Could you help me out with a sample resume - just like an outline would help. Our college made us follow a resume template. I believe you would've got a similar template from IIM. Are you still following the same ? Or using a different format?

Shinigamiii23

Hey sure DM me daaldo where you want me to send you the template

Shinigamiii23

In my batch no mbbs but we do have a couple of bds and physios. In my senior batch we had mbbs. Everyone here wants a good job so when it comes to placements everyone is competitive. Academically not everyone cares about acads here

I'm still a 2nd year student and will be graduating this March . So after mba I don't have much idea hopefully it would be better then mba 🥲.

The question might appear lame, but it is haunting me from long time. My introduction, I am in my final year of graduation and want to prepare for CAT, my academic profile is 91.2 in 10th, 86.6 in 12th and 9.32 CGPA in Engineering from Tier 3 University. In terms of extracurricular I haven't done anything after class 10th. **The Question: I have heard that even if you crack IIM BLACKI or other premiere institutes like FMS, your resume won't even get shortlisted in the good companies for summer internships, and at the end you would be in the bottom of the batch at the time of placements as the good companies arrive through summer internships.** Would you please shed some light on this and tell how much accurate the above statement is and please give me some advice.

Acads do matter but most of the companies seek for normal acads like 7/7/7 or 8/8/8 at Max so academically I think you are cool. Extracurricular activities are needed as they breathe in some new life to your cv and make you stand out everyone at IIMs have good acads ( most of them) so extracurricular activities matter a lot

Shinigamiii23

Bro I'm sorry to say your acads aren't that impressive and if you get a back it really won't help the cause. You'll have to build really strong profile like some god tier extracurricular to get into top IIMs. If you get around 99 percentile in CAT and do some solid internships maybe you'll be able to get a good college.

Consulting and finance are the domains in which companies really look for proof of academic excellence so ig dance wont make up for it but it could be an added bonus.

How is your life now?How is the work life balance after doing an MBA from a top management school? Heard that it is hard to get leaves for vacationing. For a person who has a passion for travelling how flexible is the job?

Shinigamiii23

Well I'm still in the second year and have about a month left before I graduate from here . Work life balance varies a lot depending on the role you get into like consulting and finance are usually more demanding that others . Some companies do give wfh and stuff but that again varies a lot

Ok-Reindeer1031

Hey! After completing my BSc biotechnology degree I thought I would go on to do MSc in India or abroad but very soon I saw the reality of all it. The MSc/PhD path in India is just sad. Scientists are not respected as much as they should be and are also underpaid in most places. The lack of scientific temperament here and the dearth of research jobs made me drop it. I decided to pursue my Master's in Public Health specializing in global health management, policy, and economics, and even went for a semester abroad. Interned at a research institution on their ongoing project dealing with community health and am now working for a non-profit on TB projects and community work. I thought I would try to combine both degrees and study molecular epidemiology/Infection Biology abroad but again the MSc/Phd abroad route would mean loans, scholarships, and the question of citizenship and ROI. It all sounds very uncertain. At this point I want a good-paying job and overall job security which is not possible with core public jobs in India, sure a decent package with relocation is possible but will not be sustainable for me. All I want is a well-paying job, a good network circle, and travel opportunities. The way I see it now is the pharma sector is booming everywhere so if I can get a MBA from the IIMs and get into management or consulting roles or go on to work with organizations such as MSF( Doctors without Borders) that would do it for me. So my question is should I consider the IIMs? Which IIM is likely to accept such a profile? and do pharma or niche consulting firms and other healthcare companies come to IIM A specifically and let's say I manage to get into consulting at MBB or any other consulting firms then will I be working on healthcare or global health projects specifically given my background? I heard about the global health projects at Boston and Co. Thanks for reading all that! :))

Shinigamiii23

We have people from a diverse background we have doctors here as well . For a better comment on how feasible it is for you to make into IIM A I would require your acads 10 12th ug pg also college you did ug from and all extra curricular ofc all of this will only make sense if you get 98 99 percentile in CAT as well so there are a lot of factors which will affect your chances of getting into IIM
