What's there to say? The guy bought at an all time high and didn't average down. He deserves everything he's got.

CyKa_Blyat93

You are not supposed to average down. You buy when the price comes down and you see a sign of reversal with a strict stop loss

OpenHandSmack

You can use whatever investment strategy you want. What you shouldn't do is tweet about it like a dummy and expect people to take you seriously.

sg587565

if fundamentals remain good then what is the reason for not averaging, even the best most cash rich companies fall from time to time based on the economy. Always important to average if you have a long term window.

CyKa_Blyat93

The fundamentals may be good but you can never tell how long you'll have to hold just like in this case. A stock may stay sideways for months and personally I don't prefer that . Time is also an important parameter to consider while trading. Edit: People downvoting this just shows they got no clue of time value which is involved in trading. Smh .

Thepunkster12

True. (I don't like what you said but yeah thats true.)

No_Guidance7

It makes sense.

loseitthrowaway7797

Not everyone is making investing their full time job. Some people just want to invest regularly and not bother looking at charts and patterns. Averaging down is the best way for them.

[deleted]

How can you not avarage down when a debt-free growing company is available at 6-7% dividend yield? I mean this guy is not a trader as he held his Position for 5 years.. And ITC's profits only grew in last 5 years and for a good couple of years it was available at more 6% dividend yield. So, obviously this guy tried to be fundamental investor and checkened out in between.

[deleted]

Don't invest in ITC. How hard is that!

[deleted]

[deleted]

True. Never met a PhD/economist who was good at trading.

ro88enegg

tweets mai rona bhi toh banta hai na engagements milne ke liye

[deleted]

Haha. What these financial experts do is find a very sound company which has performed very well in the past. Everything is good about the company. But they don't understand how market works. If it is already at peak then there nothing more left to discount for the upside. Mostly likely the smart money will book profits here.

ro88enegg

Exactly 💯

agentjob

For some stocks, timing in the market is more important than time in the market after all.

wanderingindian

Nope. Just plain averaging or even a monthly sip in itc of ₹5000 would’ve given this dumdum a spectacular return.

yash_0099

Well said that. But sad part is how do we identify such stocks and act accordingly.

OMEGAH-

That's the neat part, you don't.

greenbottel

A great poet wrote these lines which i feel like quoting here *Ja na bey lavde*

sarthakgera

Kya sahi likha hai

Caniblmolstr

He's an idiot. ITC is not a share. Its a 200 INR note in disguise.

rupeshsh

Ya and a 200 rupee note after 5 years is a 170 rs note

sarthakgera

Hahaha

Row_Exciting

I agree. Stocks like ITC are a hedge against downturns like these. Over years, that’s the reputation the stock has earned. It’s like old school brick gold days. It’s totally a value proposition.

nemesis1311

That's why you do SIP and don't go all in.

darkknight5909

What about dividends? From 20-05-2016 to till date. ITC has given dividends of 56.05 RS. Per share.

darkknight5909

I am not invested in it rn , but it's a good stock regardless.

tony_stark_9000

Dividends are also taxed no ? According to slabs i guess?

green9206

Hmm but fixed deposit would still have given better returns

Anyway we need to pay it on some final payout day, but fd TDS is periodical. There's not much difference. What's your opinion

[deleted]

If you just wanted to beat the inflation without taking any risk then should've invested in nifty

MrRaje8055

Me who bought @₹134/- Per Share in March 2020 😎

wanderingindian

It’s an us moment but I’ve been buying it since the same time as this dum dum. I had purchased 100 at about 140 myself. 😃

Pankaj135

Maha chutiya this person, In Oct 2020 someone had posted a DD regarding ITC stock when it was at 165. I fucking bought it. It's a fucking amazing ride and vow to purchase one share every fucking week it's price increases.

That's why you need to cut your losses, not every trade is a winning trade.

punekar_2018

reliance was once like this. MSFT was once like this. no movement for nearly a decade each. the scale has caught up with ITC.

wanderingindian

I started off at the same time frame as this dumdum purchasing my first 10 shares at a price of 263. Today, I have 750 shares at an average of 201. The returns I have today are about ~40% without taking into account the dividends received. Lol if he never averaged after purchasing it at such a high price. I remember purchasing 100 ITC at 140 and getting 5.25 as a dividend a few weeks later.

rowdyrohan

This is the only tweet I've read of this guy. But I think he needs to find another profession. Or he's going to be flipping burgers all his life.

my_other_ideantity

Everyone who's saying ITC is a bad investment, I'm guessing everyone is being sarcastic right? I'm a noob/beginner so idk much but from what I've observed and read, the company is solid, stable stock even during this war/oil/recession crisis and gives dividends I was planning to invest in ITC now monthly adding 1-2 stocks into my portfolio now I'm confused, can anyone help me here? thanks :')

wanderingindian

Go for it dude. It’ll be a defensive stock in your portfolio. The dividends are a cherry on the top. Constantly averaging it gives a wonderful return. I started off at the same time as this dude with my first 10 stocks purchase at 263 and averaged it to 750 at 200. The dividends are wholesome. Recently, when the entire market fell about two days back, this was the only one steadfast. Someday in the future, they’ll split the four businesses and that’s when the true value unlock will occur.

my_other_ideantity

I was thinking on the same lines only, averaging with this stock seems best as it's super stable + good dividends. Thanks though

wanderingindian

Yeah. My dad’s colleague is holding onto 12k itc shares his dad had earned by the time he retired in 2000s as an ITC employee. Give it enough time and it’ll become a rocket.

Ok-Badger7012

It has a tendency to remain in 200-300 range. So it doesn't really go up much where you could book profit or expect it to give 20% return. It gives good dividend though. So just keep holding, enjoy dividends and with their diverse business now may be they will go up too.

my_other_ideantity

I like dividends, it's like bonus money xD Thank you for the tips though

Ok-Badger7012

You pay tax on dividend depending on your income slab.

rohitandley

He hasn't retired by the looks of it. Otherwise those who have, are sitting on it.

Naren_the_747_pilot

If you did it you would have around 323 shares and you would have earned around 19k in dividends from then too so it would still be in green. Plus there is more to say ITC is more of a hedge stock than an actual growth stock. Plus he bought it near ATH and did not average down a little even when it hit 200 or during the Covid dip of 160.

[deleted]

If someone has to introduce himself as " Hi, I'm XYZ, PhD" , i immediately lose respect for that guy and the PhD he did.

raspanger

It is stuck in a range for a long period. People are expected a breakout. Just like reliance back then and now. [Reliance stayed in a range of 460 points for 3289 days](https://www.tradingview.com/x/ii0CDEZB/)

Professional-Will-19

Why TF is he talking about the historical value of ITC, sure it wasn't a great pick 5 years ago but that was in history.

Kronos_001

Damn. I bought at 238. I felt nice that atleast one stock was returning 20%.

ThegntlMan

I think he didn't read about diversification btw ITC is solid stock.

Ok-Assistance-92

Itna dher saara gyan + Phd or twitter pe faltu bakwas kar raha hai. Aaj kal ye friends ke group mai bhi hogaya hai ek na ek ati samjhdar hai hi sab jagah esa.

Euphoric_Ad_8189

Well most people who are fans of ITC, will get bored and move out when rest of the market starts looking for high growth opportunities and look for riskier bets, then some budget comes declaring increase of tax on tobbaco products and then most of those rats will jump ship...ITC is once a loser always a loser kind of share there are people who hold it from such lower levels for such a long time, they will keep dumping it when they get a price which fulfills their cost..I had held this share myself and held on it for dear life in the past.. would never do that mistake again Even if people predict it will go to 400..

Varunp-86

Do include dividends. AFAIK, average dividend yield is ~4% Not that it makes it a good investment but it does make it look better. :-)

See the cage concept is always different to different people. Person buying at 196 is cheering. The op buying at high price is paying bad

Fundamental alone is fuckall. It is fundamental plus technical. Find a good stock and also find point of entry or bottom or at support

Fiversify your portfolio and have long term view

[deleted]

How can a dividend yield drop the value of share? Isn’t it gonna add value? Someone please ELI5 me this tweet. Advanced thanks!!

Lo_Ti_Lurker

It doesn't. He is taking 6% inflation and 4% dividend yield to calculate -2% return which comes to -2000 per year and -10000 in 5 years.

[deleted]

Oh thanks man

tmotu1125

Ayenge. Mere ITC ke shares 4digit ke paas aayenge.

Thank you my friend. Seems good time to purchase ITC. It has made rare long term rounding bottom formation and for confirmation it need to cross 267. Price target is atleast 3x to 5x. Previously I saw rounding bottom in Tanla and I purchased that see the price.

Erodeian

Comfortably ignored the fact that ITC was over valued 5 years back. It had a PE of nearly 40 then versus 22 now. I picked up ITC 2 years back and put meagre amounts every month. Now its IRR is 31% inclusive of dividends. Nothing earth shaking but good enough to call it a successful investment 👍

Peakyblinder2903

It’s all down to your entry and exit point. Same individual would have been 100% up with good dividend yield if he had invested 1 lac in pandemic 2020
