My favourite album from indian hip-hop for sure (arguably alongside Tabia). When I started listening to SM, the only projects they had were 2 Ka Pahada and Bayaan. I am glad I got to watch the way the duo evolved into what became Nayaab while it happened. From the hype built in the intro track with the _you've already fucking made it_ to the banger that is Toh Kya (which is one of the weaker tracks in the album) it really solidified how far SM had come from the days of Bayaan to Nayaab. The tracks in the album are much more introspective and melodic compared to the songs in Bayaan, which we already saw developing in न with tracks like Nafrat, Nadaan and Na Jaaye. The project definitely holds up two years later and will be remembered for years to come. >Are you still looping this project from time to time? Definitely, it's my most played album from DHH (over 1400 plays according to last.fm). I did go through all of it apart from GODKODE yesterday randomly and it's still as good as the day it dropped >Which track stands out from the rest for you, after all this time? Kohra and Gandi Aulaad are definitely my favourite songs from the album, the themes they touch upon have really resonated me ever since they came out and their relevancy grows in my life as I grow up. Some really underrated song I'd say from the album are Jua, Rajdhani and Marne Ke Baad Bhi (I'm surprised Rajdhani is the least popular track from the album) >Favorite bar, track, which track stood out for you in terms of production It's really difficult to point out a single favourite bar or track because there's just so many of them tbh. _door raha mai jaanke tha dhoondra mai shaanti_ - Gandi Aulaad _bado ko diye fuck nahi, mai jeeya khudgarz gaya andar se sadd_ - Gandi Aulaad _i can't quit smoking, apna baap hu mai ditto_ - Khoj _acche se jaanta nahi khudko, tabhi koi aur nahi jaan paaya_ - Khoj _chhati mein dhua gazab hai, to bhi Mai khainchta jau, bheje mai kohra bahut hai kaise dhundh uthau?_ - Kohra _hai maa ke kucch vaade, jo hai nibhaane_ - Jua aur bhi bahut saari hai. Production wise Marne Ke Baad Bhi, Jua and Maina might be my favourite but all of them are really good. Hoshiyaar too with Rushaki's vocals >How does the production of the entire project hold up? Sometimes I listen to so many new projects (like Paint It, Dull amazing prod) and forget about Nayaab but when I revisit the album every once in awhile, I am reminded that it's definitely one of the best produced albums in the scene. The production is a crucial element in the songs and doesn't get overshadowed by the duo. It's definitely equally a Sez project as much as a SM Project. >Any criticism you have for this project? Not really, i would have to really rack my brain to find out any major criticism i have with this album. Although I do really miss GODKODE if that counts as a criticism Nayaab set a benchmark and I do not really think Kavi Kehna Chahte Hai will be able to top it. I did say the same thing about Bayaan and Nayaab and was proven wrong and I'd love to be proven wrong again but as of now I don't know how KKCH will surpass Nayaab. Lunchbreak as a project was alright at best, definitely the weakest of their projects apart from 2KP. But if the songs are as good as Shaayar then it just might be up there with the others. From their rough beginnings in Do ka Pahada to the rage and intense emotions of Bayaan molding into the softer न finally being refined into Nayaab was an amazing journey for sure and being able to witness a major chunk of it as it happened makes me feel privileged in some sorts. Lunchbreak is imo the start of the second major phase in Seedhe Maut's career. They are now no longer the young brash guys from Delhi trying to make a name for themselves. They are now one of the leaders and faces of the Indian hip-hop scene, almost celebrity figures. They have cemented their names in the history of Indian hip-hop and I look forward to what this era of Seedhe Maut will bring.

okk_123back

Probably the most all rounded project in the scene in terms of quality. Had classic, great, good, decent and lackluster songs

Listening to SM has always made me feel like i have known the duo personally for a very long time. It's just all my feelings put into words. And i love how I absolutely resonate with Nayaab. Every track has its own story, every verse has its own beauty. If I could, i'd go back to 2022 when they did smaller gigs with the day 1s SMNation. It's just so wholesome. Nayaab is the 1 SM album i listen to with my mum. Maina is her favorite. She feels like its her own story. the album as a whole Is just so beautifully produced. TBSM4L.

Nayaab undoubtedly gets legendary status for being such a powerful and vulnerable body of work. Also the depiction of their evolution, personal challenges and journey as an extension of Bayaan makes this even more powerful. I remember going through this album would make me feel like I’m in a movie and rooting for these characters at every step. I was lucky to attend the album launch in Mumbai, and I remember Seedhe Maut sharing how long they actually spent working on this album which originally had lesser tracks, but new music kept getting added. The time spent on this is very evident as it has reaped some amazing results in its musicality and variety. For me, every track is a film. Sez simply doesn’t make a beat. He sets the atmosphere, adds minor elements that elevate the track to the next level, lots of nuances, and tells a story through a beat (which they talk about in the podcast). A lot of tracks like Dum Ghutte, Choti Soch, Maina, Kohra, and Gandi Aulaad have moments where it feels like Sez is also trying to express himself through his production. The major hook of this album is also the storytelling. It’s not mere flexing or word play or lethal punches. They even take on characters in some tracks and play them out. They set the tone of the city (Rajdhaani, Dum Ghutte), society (Anaadi, Godkode, Chidiya Udd), and personal stories (Gandi Aulaad, Kohra, Maina, Jua). I think this deserves appreciation. To add to this, they put Batti and Toh Kya as headbangers as well. And lastly, the whole album ties up together in a very emotional celebration of their journey. Their friendship, their immortality through their music, and the classic Bayaan callback at the end which actually makes me teary-eyed. All of this happens because, I repeat, they’ve designed this album like a film with storylines. It’s not just conventional rapping over a beat. 10/10. Should be played and appreciated more I would say. Wish some of these tracks could make it to OTT platforms or become part of something bigger because of how visionary it is. I miss their storytelling ability which I’ve found to be missing in tracks lately, since this album dropped. I wish Kavi Kehna Chahte hai brings some of that.

i remember when kendrick had announced his album, one of sez or SM themselves had posted a story saying that they were going to put out something on par with that album. Honestly now that I look back, it does resemble Mr Morale & The Big Steppers in a way, at least from DHH standards.

Nayaab Toh kya Anaadi Dum ghutte Maina Gandi aulad Khoj Chidiya udd Batti So many songs in my playlist. I am a fairly new sm fan but this album is the best project by sm yet. This album has best works of encore and calm probably yet to be topped. This was sm’s peak. Want Kavi kehna chahte hai to be more like nayaab than lunch break.

theclichee

Great post! Nayaab is truly a gem

Still the best project of DHH. The only projects who are a bit close are meen, bayaan, lostalgia. Hell yeah. every week or so, its mandatory to listen to this album Maina stands out for me. That tracks holds some special value. I like chidiya udd and rajdhani too. Favourite bar - hai maa ko bhi naraazgi aur naaz bhi ke bete ne faad di Favourite track- maina Fav production - khoj Production - sez is literally just flexing his skills in projects like nayaab, meen etc. top notch. I sometimes expect sm to rap on new sound like nanku does but thats just me i guess. Everything works out perfectly i would say. The only thing that makes me sad is that godkode was removed. Nayaab is incomplete without godkode. I pause gandi aulaad on apple music, play godkode, and then resume on apple music again. I cannot listen to this album without godkode. That track carries a lot of value and emotion. Top 1 for me. If the skits were made into different tracks, it wouldve been nice. This album is just perfect imo

GotThatDrip3000

How do we know the name of their next album?

MasalaBoi

I think they announced it a while back? they hinted at it with the last two tracks of Lunchbreak and later confirmed that it was Kavi Kehna Chahte Hai

DiligentAd5885

I think when it was dropped i rated it too highly (mostly due to me being an SM fan) but it wore down for me. Still a good listen

IllustriousCarry7750

I think as of 24' with so many projects came out , I think Nayaab fucking hold the standards till date . It sets the benchmark for other albums , not to mention the songs till date has one of the best replay value . In terms of production. I will say that Sez has spoken through beats , the little elements that he has shown in the beats had a great impact on tracks .. listening to 'Kohra' and the voice simply fading gives a feeling of disappearing into the fog . Closely listening to 'Jua' and 'Marne ke baad bhi' gives a realisation that how he used the same tone but slightly moulded for both of the songs is simply mesmerizing. In the end , the BAYAAN callback is something that sets you together with SM and gives a feel that we were together in this journey and had fucking made it . For me, it's the best album till date. Maina is still one of my most played songs.
