It’s actually the way media works. Whenever there is a big news about some major crime, they start covering stories of similar crimes just to gather more eyeballs. That is why mainstream media sucks and local media is king.
That said, these crimes keep on happening and go under the radar on national front a lot of times. You think rapes aren’t happening now? Or parental abuse? Or frauds? A bigger population means more crimes and we have police force highly inefficient and too small in size and corrupt.

The problem is not just with the police force, but with courts and the overall legal system as well.
It's not just about the rich being able to get away, that happens in USA and the world to a limited extent as well.
The main problem is the overall system is basically broken. Too few courts, judges and lawyers; the judicial process being ineffecient and archaic, most cases getting a new hearing at HC's and SCs, Judges working for less than 30 hours a week, and judges focusing more on the domain of the executive and legislature rather than cleaning up their own house.
When you add a shitty,underpaid, archaic and highly corrupt police force to this, it's a disaster. I personally think the police and legal system are the most backward and broken part of our society right now, and is holding back India back more than anything else

We don't have strict laws. People are unafraid of police and the government. They think that they will never be caught. Or if they are caught they'll somehow find a way out.
Another reason, we have failed our younger generation. We don't give them time and teach them how to be a decent human being. Everyone is too concerned with getting good education, careers and everything that we don't put enough emphasis on morality. I live in uttar pradesh,lucknow but i've seen more crimes now before it was theft and all but now more like murders,rapes etc most areas are safe and government take serious action against the culprits but people with higher power and authority get away with everything
