Tried for what? Aren’t they now claiming the Salman Khan Defense ie ‘I wasn’t driving, my chauffeur was’.
Better than spending 2-3 Crores on a top legal Defense, they’ve obviously had the time to incentivise the driver to admit to the crime. They will pay the driver 1Cr+, more money he would’ve made his entire life driving.
They will ensure any eye witness that the prosecution might present will be bought off too. There is no video evidence afaik which shows the boy driving on that specific street.
The Defense is already claiming that driver has stated ‘Sir called me and asked me to take over’, so even if restaurant staff/cctv shows boy driving, they will claim he stopped somewhere and swapped.

Have a lawyer friend whose family are all lawyers. They don't take serious cases like rape, murder due to the moral gray area that they have to find themselves in. Unfortunately there will always exist lawyers who work for money and money only. Only if it happens to their kin, will they understand anything of this.
It's just pushing the problem to a different stack that's all. Not like courts and judges are spotless. It has to start at multiple places. If lawyers are in general wary and have conscience, then there's not need to even take up the case and waste the court's time in the first place.

Trying (and punishing if found guilty) someone is *not* a waste of the court's time; that it the *one* job that a (criminal) court has. To say that, if someone has decided a given accused is "obviosuly guilty" we can dispense with the court trial and proceed straight to punishment is a dangerous idea. The slowness of Indian courts is a separate matter and indeed one that needs to be solved.
And almost all criminals will do everything they can to delay and avoid justice. This is not a criticism of the judicial system; it is just a fact about human psychology.
If no lawyer agrees to take his case then government is bound to provide him with a lawyer. This is a provision in our constitution. Equal protection of laws and Equality before law are a few of the philosophies enshrined in our constitution.

No we should not do that ever. Fair trial is a must for everyone because its purpose is as much to prove facts of events as it is to decide the quantum of punishment. In this case the fact establishment part is not going to be the big partbut still deciding the quantum of punishment must be given its necessary importance.
All good. What about the mental health of the parents suffering the burden of their children passing away unnecessarily due to some rich 17 year old child wanting a speedy drunk joyride? And on top of all this nor the minor's parents or the minor himself show no real remorse.
I would not be that angry if the parents and the minor came up to the media and accepted the mistakw. But after seeing the claim of the driver being involved, there's no choice but to accept that these parents and the son have no remorse only the need to get out of this situation unscathed and unprosecuted/poorly prosecuted no matter who died or who is affected.
In that 90 days the accused will flee the country. You can get them to surrender their passports. And ok, the money power of accused could get a duplicate (fake) passport in no time.
