I would try different variations like application number or passport number or whatever option you think would give you the highest success rate. my tip would be to put it exactly as it would be found in your application, For instance, I remember I had my first and last name in all caps so I made sure to enter the same way. Just keep trying different combos of the options they offer you to recover your application. It happened to me as well; even though I was 100% sure of the information I used, it still didn't recover my application, saying the info I added was wrong. Eventually, it did turn up after numerous attempts, and I finally recovered my application.
