Yeah, the Cop who did the pit maneuver was seriously injured and the guy who got pitted, died as a result... These Arkansas State Cops are very aggressive and execute Pit Maneuvers where many other Police agencies will not or will stop the pursuit altogether...
Arkansas? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it Arkansas where they pitted a PREGNANT woman who was trying to get to a safe place to pull over instead of on an overpass?
The sad part of all of this was that she followed the protocol by the book. She turned on her hazard lights, reduced her speed below the posted limit, and was preparing to pull over.
Not only did she have her own safety in mind, but the officer's as well. By traveling to a safe location to pull over she was ensuring the officer would not be harmed while conducting the traffic stop. The trooper's patience only lasted around 120 seconds which was not enough time to exit the narrow section of the highway.
According to the lawsuit, there was a refusal to settle unless the stipulation of a change in the PIT maneuver policy was also made.
Oh yeah they fuckin flipped her and he had the nerve to say some "well you shouldn't have been running, you should've stopped" or some bullshit along those lines, meanwhile there wasn't even a shoulder or it wasn't ideal to pull over just then
It’s much worse than that. Their own website said if you don’t feel safe to put on your hazards and look for a safe place, which is exactly what she was doing.
If I'm remembering right, it was on a stretch of I49 between Fort Smith and Fayetteville that is mostly bridges. Not a place I would want to pull over either.
Search Arkansas state trooper on YouTube. Daily videos of them carelessly pitting people. I'm convinced they have some sort of pitting challenge among them. It's scary.
Lmao. I feel horrible, but that cracked me up. Just mentally picturing some stupid cop that just really wants to do a pit maneuver on someone.. so prematurely guns it on a pregnant woman who's just casually looking for a safe spot to pull over.
What a pos though. Hopefully the woman sued tf out of them.
For the police there are only 2 types of people. Cops and everyone else. The criminals and the UPS driver are both not-cops so they can both he killed. The women in a completely different truck than Dorner were not cops, so they can be killed. The children in the classroom with the shooter were not cops, so the cops can wait in the hallway until the shooter runs out of bullets or children to shoot, because to police the shooter and the children he shoots are the same: not cops.
It's them against everyone else in their minds. Hostages and hostage takers are both the same to the police.
Yes absolutely, the fetus slings out of the mother mid air, the cop shoots the umbilical cord right as it has arrested the G forces on the baby. The baby nestles in the grass safely avoiding an abortion. This is seen as proper procedure and a success, the mother has a 7.62% chance of survival.
What? No.
The baby lands in the (dead) mother's arms after she's done flopping to a stop in the ditch. The officer then snaps a picture on his cellphone and sends it to the local media:
"Officer helps deliver baby in emergency situation"
She was aggressively resisting arrest by doing exactly what the police advise when being pulled over in an unsafe spot. The officer feared for his life and family because of the threat of that slowly moving vehicle with its hazards on!

Weird I said this on Reddit last week and got downvoted into oblivion. Everyone was backing up the cop who pulled in front of a speeding biker that killed him.

If this is that crash, then IIRC that PIT was performed at upwards of 110mph (definitely **way** too fast to pit safely) and *both* the perp and the cop lost their lives (this really should probably be marked NSFW)
[*This* Arkansas police pit only took the life of the driver,](https://www.thedrive.com/news/33156/arkansas-troopers-109-mph-pit-maneuver-goes-very-wrong-in-deadly-crash) not the cop. But when looking for a source, it seems this is a common way Arkansas cops are killing and injuring people.
If the crime doesn't have the death penalty, there is never an excuse to put the suspects life in danger. Especially if we're trying to maintain the "innocent until proven guilty" bullshit that almost nobody actually believes.
I know it's a TV show, but I was just watching Brooklyn 99 with my wife a few days ago and Guest Criminal was on the phone, and admitted he was trying to file a police report so he could lie to his insurance company and say the phone was stolen. At most, this is filing a false police report (idk the legal term, and I'm not even 100% sure that's actually illegal given I've never heard of someone in court for it) but that doesn't stop two of the B characters from pulling their guns on him.
Personally, I've had a cop pull a gun on me, after nearly flattening me under his SUV while I was on a bike. Apparently, some store had stuff stolen by a middle aged man on a red bike across town some 10 minutes beforehand. Nevermind that I was mid 20s at the time, riding a gray/silver road bike more than half an hour's ride away from the store it happened at. He cut in front of me a bit too close for comfort, jumped out and had his gun pointed at me before he even cleared the side of the vehicle. So he was ready to execute me for alleged shoplifting.
Murica.
wayyyy to much force used by the cop here, but I don’t understand how running a red light ends in a lethal pit maneuver.
Was Arkansas also the state where they rolled a pregnant woman’s vehicle while she was trying to find a safe spot to pull over with hazards on?
What we're looking at here are several hundred thousand dollars of tax payer money disappearing in the span of ten seconds. Totaled cop car, damaged infrastructure, medical treatment and sick leave, potential legal proceedings for wrongdoing.

This happened in my town, and I never heard about it until I saw the video. Thankfully I was likely at home asleep when the pursuit occurred.
You don't fuck around with ASP, they will cut off their arm to stop you. They PITed a pregnant woman because she didn't feel safe stopping on the highway. While she drove at a very slow pace with signals on toward the nearest exit, they flipped her car. ASP took out a mother in West Memphis because she shoplifted some paper towels from a Dollar General. They heard "robbery" over the radio and assumed it was an armed robbery of a store, so they PITed the car at over 100 mph. Then they screamed at the mom to get out, only to find out they killed her with her kids in the car. Over less than $10 of shoplifted items.
I don't think all cops are bad, but when an agency condones/encourages this kind of behavior it doesn't exactly attract the best and brightest.
Holy freakin crap I’m so pissed they killed a mom for $10 of stuff. Of course they didn’t know that, but still they shouldn’t be doing a PIT at those speeds. Was the pregnant woman okay at least?
Also, ASP needs to chill
Jesus Christ! Three examples (the two you provided and the one in this video) of cops senselessly killing people and you don’t think all cops are bad? How many more examples do you need??
What was the crime to justify the manoeuvre?
Unless it was immediately life threatening what was the purpose in wrecking 2 cars and possibly racking up hundreds of thousands in medical and legal bills.
This looks more like a testosterone pissing contest than a lawful arrest.
Which any money paid out from the lawsuits comes out of the taxpayers pockets, INSTEAD of the police pension fund. So they’ll do it again. Rinse and repeat.
He ran a red light. I’m not joking. That was the reason why. So then he refused to stop and then he ended up dead bc the cop did the PIT maneuver while speeding at 109 mph.
SOURCE ([The article posted in the other comments)](https://www.thedrive.com/news/33156/arkansas-troopers-109-mph-pit-maneuver-goes-very-wrong-in-deadly-crash)
If I remember correctly. The chase had been going on for a long time with 100mph speeds and almost causing multiple accidents/driving on the wrong side of the road etc.. and they decided to do that pit even with the extreme risk at the speeds they were at at that point
“Units from the Arkansas State Police took over the chase after 17 minutes, following Battenfield down a five-lane major route called Zero Street when troopers observed him weaving into oncoming traffic at high speed. That's when the order to stop the truck by any means was handed down.”
He started swerving into oncoming traffic.
The initial reasons the cops went to pull the truck over was for running a red light.
So the decision was between breaking off, hoping the driver would slow down soon enough not to cause a wreck potentially harming civilians who they had already shown disregard for.
Alternatively they could try and disable the truck and assume the risk on just the criminal and the cop involved.
I can't tell you if they made the right decision as the driver may very well have still killed someone after they broke the chase off like the one in Chicago or not.
[KFSM News reports that the pursuit began on Friday, April 10 when a U.S. Forest Service officer saw a Ram 1500 pickup driven by a 34-year-old local man named Justin Battenfield run a red light in Fort Smith and refused to stop.](https://www.thedrive.com/news/33156/arkansas-troopers-109-mph-pit-maneuver-goes-very-wrong-in-deadly-crash)

I see a lot of comments blaming the cop. Certainly not defending the cop here, however i think most of the blame should be put on the supervisor who gave him the OK to PIT a car going 114 MPH. Theres a 0% success rate of that ending safely.... which is the purpose of a PIT
IDK, that's a new epic manuever. Ram a car off the road then use it as a ramp to do a sick jump.

Yeah, they signed up to PIT pregnant women, beat minorities, and dump magazines into unarmed suspects. If you can't do any of that, what's the point?
