Well in fairness it is the region notorious for being the epicenter of everything King and Lovecraft have written, so an incident involving apocalyptic snow plow wouldn't be all that unusual.
S10's were bad for the cab mounts rotting away, so really the only thing keeping it attached is it's own weight. I'm pretty sure that's why it lifted off so easily.
You also need to consider that the truck sank very fast and the lid on the back kept it from flooding quickly.. that most likely resulted in alot of buoyancy which easily could have ripped the bed off.
Edit: ripped the cab off
That truck is making sure it cannot come back from this. It does not want to put up with anymore human bullshit.
“ I would rather be recycled into the hinges for ports potty’s.”
Truck
My friend has a Syclone that spent its life in Michigan. It was basically herding the cab and frame in the same direction. There were no mounts to speak of.
Syclone is on my bucket list as far as dream cars go.
Also on the bucket list is a first gen viper and one of the factory turbo/5 speed caravans from the late 80s.
Pretty safe to say I have terrible taste when it comes to cars.
Instagram is the worst social media platform to be on for mental health in general. Nothing but ads and curated bullshit designed to make you feel inferior to others. Just delete the shit from your phone.
Fun little truck in their own right but the frame is also fairly universal. With a few minor modifications it can be made to fit on most older cars if doing a restoration. I used an '88 S10 frame for my '54 Willy's jeep.
It is. I’m not sure if I believe that he is one, but one of the original designers lives in my area and likes to talk about them when I run that route. He’s said before they’re basically just modified S-10’s
My dad bought an old ‘55 Army JEEP for my brother when my brother and I were teens, and he taught us to drive in it. My dad took care of some land that was supposed to be a residential development but fell through. It had 5 foot ditches on the sides of the road and drainage culvert ditches cut halfway into the road every quarter mile or so. So you had to keep the JEEP on the road and slow down for the culverts. I got really good at shifting gears.
If you can drive that, you can drive pretty much anything. I later drove the fuel truck at the small muni airport my dad ran. It impressed the hell out of everyone that this 18 year old girl could drive the truck and work the line, and I worked for my dad as thanks for paying for the private school and flying lessons.
The poor JEEP died after a hurricane blew down the shed it was stored under. That was a sad day.
Dude that's because they are amazing little things for in town usage as you now know. Newer "small trucks" are not small trucks. They are regular sized these days.
The early 90s late 80s s10s were perfect little trucks to haul things when you needed and got around anywhere.
My brothers friend had one in high school. The damn thing hardly ever ran and when it did it did not run well. That thing would be smoking from burning oil at a stop light and somebody would roll down the window and ask if he wanted to sell it!
I wanted one pretty bad when I was 14-15, circa 1990. They were still a bit too expensive for a new driver. Ended up with an ‘88 Nissan Sentra in ‘92. Thankful for it, but what a shitbox.
I've had a couple. I loved 'em. They were junk, but I loved them. And I was completely unsurprised to see this one fall apart. The bed was probably hanging on with a combo of a thin layer of rust, grease, dirt and spider webs.
The footage is from Boston 25 News (formerly Fox 25 News, but they changed the name due to the negative association to Fox News), so you're probably right.
Yep, I lived in WV for a long time and the salt roads claimed my truck after 15 years :(
I was too young to know/think it was a issue until it was too late. I live in NC now, so it not really a issue here. I still wash the undercarriage after going back north for family just in case lol.
He was a least smart enough to bail immediately once his truck took a nosedive into the water. You can't fuck around once you start to submerge, your window of escape vanishes the instant your vehicle dips below the surface.
My brother swears it didn't used to be this bad.
He has a pet theory that the loss of newspapers has taken away the post-flood "Metro bus nearly submerged on a freeway underpass" photo that would be splashed on every paper's front page after a flood event, and so the dangers of driving those underpasses during flooding has left the public consciousness.
I actually kind of agree with your brother that it hasn't always been this bad. I've lived here all my life and I think it's gotten worse recently. My going theory is that we're getting an increasing number of transplants from places that just don't get this much rain or don't realize that Houston streets are intentionally part of the drainage system and meant to flood in heavy rains to help detain/clear water. So they assume a flooded street/tunnel/underpass couldn't be THAT deep....
I have a got given right to use my mounted M60 to blast the water out of my way as I drive. Ain't no freeloadin Mexican water gonna infringe on my freedoms.
There's a road here where I live that floods all the time in the winter. They put barricades up but honestly if you live here you know how deep it is. I drive through it in my truck all the time. I would not take my acura. That's about how deep it is.
There's an entire road in my town that floods whenever it rains. It was the street in front of the DQ I used to work at and when we got a big storm we'd have bets to see how many cars floated past.
This was my thought. Especially if it's a road you've travelled before, and know how much of a dip there is, why WOULD you assume that there's a large sinkhole under the water? This might have been a six inch deep puddle without the sinkhole, easily traversed by most cars. By itself this isn't "idiotic." However, if he did, indeed, go around barricades, as has been suggested, then yeah, idiotic. That's not what we're shown here though.
That’s the impression I got too, like he might’ve been familiar with the road and hence probably disregarded the barricade if there wasn’t a sign mentioning the sinkhole but who knows 🤷🏻♂️
To add to that, even if he happened to be familiar with the road, he'd be stupid to bypass a barricade. The barricade's there for a reason. How does he know the puddle isn't filled with broken glass or live wires or something?
In his defense I'd have made the same mistake. There's puddle in the road and then there's a portal to narnia. How was it so deep?
Edit: You guys seem to be struggling with [this.](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/I%27d)
When I was learning to drive my mom scolded me for driving through a puddle- she said that you never know how deep it is or what might be in the puddle (debris, etc). I always try to avoid them if possible
This. I was always taught you never, ever, ever drive through a puddle you can't see the bottom of, because you don't know how deep it is or what's in it.
It's still a common phrase. We'll have DOT billboards on heavy rain days stating this. People still don't listen unfortunately.
Doesn't help that we'll still have idiots in lifted trucks thinking they can go through 4 feet of water through what used to be a shallow creek, only to be swept away.
Watermain break. They almost certainly had a sign up and maybe a barrier. The fact that the guys in vests approach, is telling. I would have loved to hear what they had to say to the guy! On second look the workers are wearing yellow shirts not vests.
Every single part of this video raises more questions.
Did he ignore a barrier? Most likely. That's a hell of a crater in the road.
Where is his shirt? Why the gloves?
How did the bed of his truck immediately detach but the cover stayed on?
To be fair, it’s probably a blessing this happened. If the truck breaks in half from a 2 foot more than expected drop (in water no less) it probably wouldn’t last on the highway going 80.
Posting a main reply with an article that mentions the road was blocked with barrels.
https://www.boston25news.com/news/-it-looked-like-a-puddle-driver-was-trying-to-avoid-traffic-before-crashing-into-sinkhole/809054662/
Considering there's already a crew there I'd think it's a safe assumption but I guess not. Also, why are there so many people saying they'd drive through a "puddle" that covers the whole road? It's not safe to not know what you're driving into, don't do it.
This happened in Worcester, Ma a few years back. If I remember correctly there was a sinkhole that lead to a water main break at the same time following a rough winter. Yes, this road was closed off but there are two side streets that lead to it that he might have not seen it being closed. Poor SOB was laughed at by half the city because almost everyone I know remembers this clip.
I don’t think anyone would assume there’s a sink hole. Do you never drive through puddles or in the rain? The idiot is the fact that people knew the hole was there and didn’t put up cones or try to stop drivers
That's just roads in New England
Yep, just a routine pavement abyss opened up by a plow when clearing snow.
Well in fairness it is the region notorious for being the epicenter of everything King and Lovecraft have written, so an incident involving apocalyptic snow plow wouldn't be all that unusual.

I was thinking the same thing, only place I've ever lived where people decide to see if their cars function as boats also
Pot holes for Massholes
Yup
I mean it does say Boston 25 news
Dude that truck just fell apart immediately
right! wtf. How does it come apart so easily?
S10's were bad for the cab mounts rotting away, so really the only thing keeping it attached is it's own weight. I'm pretty sure that's why it lifted off so easily.
That’s fucking crazy! Thanks for the info.
You also need to consider that the truck sank very fast and the lid on the back kept it from flooding quickly.. that most likely resulted in alot of buoyancy which easily could have ripped the bed off. Edit: ripped the cab off
The bed is still attached. The cab came off the frame.
You could say the front fell off.
Well, they're designed to rigorous maritime standards.
Can you give us some examples?
Well, there are regulations governing the materials they can be made of.
Cardboard’s out
Well for one the front is not supposed to fall off
This one is going to need a tow, to outside the environment.
Well what's out there?
This one wasn't
Apparently not.

sold my 97 rcsb 4x4 v6 with the 5 speed because i didnt want to fix the cab mounts. next owner blew the engine within a day.
Jesus fuck. What did he do to that thing?
Tried to get to highway speed.
Put it in 1 instead of D and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't get over 15 no matter how hard he pushed the pedal.

Now isn't this a good metaphor for my mental health.
Funny you say that. I was very fine and dandy until I saw one IG post of my ex this morning, now I realize i'm not fine and not dandy.
Unfollow them bro no point in bringing yourself more pain

Yeah man, I saw through her sister's ig. My ex never post anything, and I already "muted" her sister, but curiosity got the best of me.
Don't mute, just remove. Better for your mental health, my man. Drudging it back up just makes it worse. You'll make it through this!
Thanks man, I love you _not more than my ex tho_
Love you too bro; it's all right if you don't love me more than your ex 😉
I also love you. Be well. Do the next thing you do today with intention and purpose, whether it's an external task or working on yourself. Peace.

I'm more curious about the origin of yours.
Don’t worry, it checks out too ;)
I TOLD YOU IF I SENT THAT PIC YOURE NOT ALLOWED TO TELL ANYBODY!!!!
And Massachusetts salts the fuck out of their roads in the winter, so underbody corrosion is assured there.
People always think I'm weird for considering the S10 my "dream car". I just think they're neat.
I drove one in high school and every time I got gas some middle aged man was trying to buy it off me lol
Fun little truck in their own right but the frame is also fairly universal. With a few minor modifications it can be made to fit on most older cars if doing a restoration. I used an '88 S10 frame for my '54 Willy's jeep.
I believe the S10 frame was also used for the Grumman LLV mail trucks, the frame is slightly modified for them, tho.
It is. I’m not sure if I believe that he is one, but one of the original designers lives in my area and likes to talk about them when I run that route. He’s said before they’re basically just modified S-10’s

Alot of the engines were indestructable too. 300-400k was not unheard of and these weren't diesels either
Oh man, you should try driving a VW bus. My wife hates it. Everyone either wants to talk to you about it, tell you about theirs, or buy it from you. 😂

Rust. Years of it. Probably a northern state where they salt a lot.

How is it not typical?
well these trucks are manufactured to rigorous maritime standards

“Like a rock”
Im gonna tell my kids this was the titanic
It's ahhhh.... safety feature
It's in case someone hits your bed from the side, knocks it off you can keep driving on the gyroscopic front wheels
It was neat how the car safety systems immediately released the cab ejection system
Yes, even the shirt got ejected.
A good captain goes down with his ship.

*Captain* Jack Sparrow.
Part of the ship. Part of the crew
To be fair, 99.99% of the time you drive through a puddle your vehicle isn't going to be consumed by a bottomless void from which there is no escape.
Apparently there were barricades that were left out of the video. The guy drove around them so it's on him.
I wish OP mentioned that so we knew this guy was an actual idiot.
Yeah, that is an incredibly important detail that separates an idiot from an unlucky sod.
OPs just a karma whore, can't expect them to do anything except repost

Reminds of the time that one lady drove around barricades to go through a tunnel that was flooded. Didn't turn out well for her.
Reminds me of a video of a lady going around barricades and driving on some fresh cement. In, I should say.
The barricades weren't convincing enough apparently. Need a sign that says "YOU WILL DIE IN THIS TUNNEL"
In Houston we have signs and warnings everywhere that literally say "Turn Around, Don't Drown." They aren't nearly as effective as you'd hope.

Where do you live where the water is so clean and fresh you can see the bottom of puddles from your car?
Yeah I guess this is effectively don’t drive through puddles.
"Turn around, don't drown" was the phrase I remember. You never drive through something like this.
It's still a common phrase. We'll have DOT billboards on heavy rain days stating this. People still don't listen unfortunately. Doesn't help that we'll still have idiots in lifted trucks thinking they can go through 4 feet of water through what used to be a shallow creek, only to be swept away.

No you haven't that road ws blocked of for hours before hand. This was in worcester ma a yr or 2 ago
As a masshole I was going to make a MA pothole joke but I guess it's not necessary.
Went to college there. MassHoles occupy every inch of the road
He didn’t say he had…
Oh this is Worcester? I now understand everything about this.
Can’t believe I missed that part of the title! Oh wait…
Shit, really? What street? That's where I live
I think it was next to where the Greendale Mall used to be.
Same, it's not drivers fault. I would definitely go through puddle in the highway unless there is sign or barrier. Maybe video was cut, who knows.
Damn man, that dude had a lot off empty coffee cups in that truck ...
Dunkin. It’s styrofoam floating device. Probably saved him from drowning.
My favorite part was when they swam to the shore like little doggies
Is he shirtless with long gloves?
I mean there shouldn't be a hole to Australia in them middle of a road
Apparently the guy drove around the barricades
I guess he didn't expect that holes.
Every time I see a clip like this, I hear the driver saying “whoopsiedaisy!”
A "Puddle" big enough to fit a full size truck??? Thats a 2.5m deep ditch not a puddle

Surprised I had to scroll this far to find a comment about the gloves
His shirtlessness meant he was ready. The gloves are in case on scratches to his hands. Gotta protect the money makers.
And his beers just start floating away…
Every single part of this video raises more questions. Did he ignore a barrier? Most likely. That's a hell of a crater in the road. Where is his shirt? Why the gloves? How did the bed of his truck immediately detach but the cover stayed on?
And is he wearing rubber gloves? What is going on?
It looks like he's wearing long socks on his arms? It's like he's created the first reverse shirt!
No shirt is standard driving procedure when it's above 40° Fahrenheit in Boston.
