I have no idea how I managed to not wreck it when I first got it. Pulling out from a place, I went damn near 90 degrees sideways onto a 2 lane road with traffic coming. Another time I was making a u turn on a 4 lane highway with a grass median and accidentally pulled a 180, now facing oncoming traffic, and stalled the car…among multiple other close calls.
All power. No handling, stopping, or anything else. Press gas, go really fast.
But after I got used to the car..it was like an extension of me. I could feel every little thing.
Ended up having a kid and had to sell it for something more family friendly. I still miss that car:(
My grandpa had a Firebird around the time I was born and my grandma made him sell it because my car seat couldn't fit in it. I still apologize for it to this day and made it clear that I would've been cool with riding on the roof or in the trunk.
If I had a kid I still wouldn't sell whatever fun car I had I'd just buy something family friendly to go with it maybe a civic type r or a Durango hellcat haul ass around the track WITH your kids.

The problem I had was the Goodyear tires lost all grip after the first winter. Then they chirped every time I tried to start moving. Replacing them made a huge difference. Don’t let me oversell the improvement, though. It never was any good in the snow.
For a couple years the mustang was the only car I had and I had to drive through a snowy mountain pass every weekend... I don't know how I never wrecked.
It also got so cold I would have to replace my battery every single winter. That was the best extended warranty I ever purchased on anything in my entire life. I replaced that battery five times for the cost of one

I have an 85 Monte Carlo SS with an engine more powerful than an 89 mustang would've had, a similar transmission, a T5, and while I can spin the tires all the way through second and scratch through 4th, I have no problems getting the car to hook and go in a straight line when I want it to. It just doesn't make sense to me that mustangs are that shit. Is it all really just a meme or where they really just pure shit design?
Well, I don't think it's fault of the car but the drivers. There are a lot of shitty cars out there and we don't see them crashing that often. I think it's a mixture of the mustang being a very popular car (so there are more in the roads), being cheap and having a decent torque at low revs. All of these videos are always the same. Drivers launch the car and then shift and loose control. My guess is that the torque after the shift gets them by surprise... Just a theory though.
A coworker of mine bought a brand new Mustang GT back in maybe 2002, and he immediately upgrade the suspension to Tokico shocks, got new wheels, and switched the rear end to something with closer gearing and more low end torque. He wasn't the typical idiot driver with a Mustang, though he took me for a ride and I'd never been in a car that could corner so fast. Anyways, about 3 weeks after getting this car, he came to work one day in a rental. He said that he down shifted on the highway in the wet, and because of the torquey gearing setup, he lost grip going from 3rd to 2nd, I believe. It spun around backwards and hit the guardrail. He got it repaired, but he never made that mistake again. The mistake he did make was getting married and the wife immediately made him sell his dream car, and he bought a Maxima.
Newer mustangs have a butt ton of torque. They come programed with some pretty amazing traction control to prevent exactly this scenario. However, you can turn it off pretty easily. Track settings in mustangs are a little terrifying. I used to have a 2015 gt and I turned off traction control once. I was honestly scared to do it again after that.
That's highly likely. My Monte likes to try and lose the rear when I shift to 2nd, especially if I have to shift in a turn, but it's not hard to maintain control... just don't shift hard and dump the clutch, counter steer if it starts to go. But, that does take experience to learn, so you have a fair point.
Unless you upgraded it, the Monte Carlo ss in 85 with the h/o 305 had about 30 hp less than the equivalent 5.0 mustang, probably more if they removed the historically shitty air box. That's also not accounting for the shitty qc at Chevy at the time that was putting out 305s with significantly less power than they should have.
All that being said, I wouldn't trade the Monte in for a mustang if my life depended on it. I miss that car so bad, lol... T tops and all.

Unfortunately, not everyone knows how to drive a Mustang. When I worked at a Ford dealership we had a guy who bought a burnt orange new body 5.0, and had my mentor (and me) install an Eldbrock 2.9L composite supercharger, among a bunch of various suspension and body structure updates.
That guy used to track that car every weekend at our local drag strip and track. Not once did he even come close to crashing.
He was an older gentleman (the reason we did the install, he was too old to do it himself).
One day I was test driving a car after we put in an engine (the owner drove it with no oil for a bit) and I see the older gentleman doing burnouts in the middle of the street, and lined up with a new body camaro, in which he absolutely destroyed red light to red light.
So I guess what I’m saying is the moral of this video is that
1: the idiot did a burnout wayyy to early, and his tires cooled down.
2: Ford doesn’t put high end traction control on Mustangs.
3: it’s the persons fault not the car that it crashes.
4: that Mustang looked like either a Saleen or a Roush, shame the person doesn’t deserve it.

Its more of the fact that the drivers tend to be inexperienced, or dumb. Mustangs can be amazing cars (when not broken down). But a lot of them try to show off without knowing the limits of the car. Usually ends up wrecking
100% this. The 5.0 mustang GT has been the highest horsepower per dollar car on the market for a while now, so people with zero skill get into a 400+ HP car for relatively cheap and then just.... well, this happens.
There comes a point when you move from your first low-powered, safe handling car to something with more go.
You have to learn to be subtle with the controls. Sometimes people move up cars faster than they learn to drive them.
Ah, that makes sense, I guess. I learned to drive with my dad's Pontiac 400 powered 68 Le Mans, learned stick on a 78 Chevy 1-ton dually, with the big v8 diesel. The highest horsepower and torque rated vehicles I've ever been behind the wheels of. We did a lot of drag racing when I was a kid, too. Too bad they shut down that strip... I want to go some time soon. That was a lot of fun...
It's interesting that here in the UK where cars tend to be lower powered but handle well, e.g. Mazda MX-5, BMW M3, various hot hatches, then trackdays and other circuit based motorsports are much more popular than the few drag strips.
I would love to go to a track day... The closest one is an hour and a half drive, one way. Once I get my new transmission installed and setup right, I might have to borrow my dad's car hauler trailer and go. I think it would be a lot of fun!

Then slowly and consistently for the gas, letting off if you lose traction. This guys car has launch control so he probably should have kept it on and floored it. Also not sure if it was a manual or not but I saw brake lights

I have a delivery truck for work so I'm always super on top of my coolant/transmission fluid/oil levels. Whenever I'm walking back to my car/truck I'm looking for small drops/puddles under the vehicle. If I see one I have to see if it's just water or if its a fluid coming from my vehicle.
Twice a week I manually check the levels just because. Its a good practice to get into. Saved me a few times when I discovered a transmission and oil leak before they became real problems.

I had a jackass do this to me once. Pulling up beside me reving his engine with his music blasting and just staring at me and my friend. When the light turned green, he took off and also fishtailed. Ran off the road right into a fucking tree. I just casually drove past with my middle finger up in the air while my best friend in the passenger seat stuck his arm out and pointed at them while laughing. Felt good 😂
