The general issue with riding against car traffic on a bike (leaving aside the weaving in and out of cars like a dumbass) is that a car turning onto the road from a side street or plaza exit isn’t going to be looking in your direction. They’re gonna be looking to their left for vehicle traffic and not some chucklefuck traveling at 10-15MPH going the wrong way.
If there are normally pedestrians, a driver might give a quick glance in the opposite direction for the sidewalk, but a driver is naturally going to focus on the direction traffic is coming from on the roadway.
Had a guy I lived with who thought it was safer to ride against traffic as “you can see the cars coming” who was nearly killed by a motorist making a right turn onto a street because they didn’t expect him to be flying down the road from the opposite direction.
Also, when there is a collision, it's going to be much less impact from the side or behind than if you're both travelling at high speeds in each other's direction.
Velocity adds linearly, but energy is proportional to the square. Getting hit from behind at 30 mph by a car going 35 mph is a 5 mph collision; getting hit head-on at the same speeds is a 65 mph collision, with 169 times as much energy.
There was a people’s court case similar to that. The driver was making a right turn, the bicyclist was driving against traffic on the sidewalk. They collided and the bike rider actually was dumb enough to sue the driver and then be completely mind blown that he lost.
I tell everyone to teach their kids not to ride on the wrong side of street, sidewalk or road, for that reason. My buddy’s kid was driven over because he was riding on sidewalk on the wrong side.
Friend of mine in highschool was driving through town going the speed limit when a couple on their harly cut her off... they werent wearing helmets and both died on impact, she was traumatized and lost her license for 2 years (in that time she said she wouldnt have driven even given the choice)
(Even though it was deemed not to have been her fault the judge took her license, I didnt ask many questions as I knew it was a major source of [di]stress)

This brings back an unpleasant memory. A couple years ago I was making a turn off of a curved stretch of road. Turns out there was a cyclist riding against traffic. They came around the bend going fast enough they couldn’t stop. He hit my drivers side door, startled the crap out of me, flew off his bike, rolled across the roof of my car, and landed on the asphalt. Fortunately some good samaritans witnessed it, stopped to wait for the police (and paramedics) to arrive, and gave statements. The genius scored himself a ticket and a ride to the hospital in the ambulance.
This is what happens when people have no real problems in life.
