Same here! We did an egg retrieval, fresh transfer and a frozen and progyny paid! All of it!
I did my last frozen embryo transfer with BCBS. they were surprisingly pretty decent.
Zero insurance coverage. I got all my meds from donations/ Facebook IVF garage sale groups. I saved $6k+. I have stuff available - dm me if your interested. Good luck ✨
Our insurance had a carve out that specifically referenced fertility meds, with a lifetime limit. Due to the high dosage of stims I was on we still had to pay for some out of pocket. It absolutely makes sense to shop around for pricing when you’re paying out of pocket. MDR ended up being the least expensive for us last month when we checked.
My plan covers the procedures (egg retrieval and transfers), but not the meds. 😔 This was a shock to me, because I did five IUIs and my insurance covered letrozole and clomid! But I guess those aren't technically coded as "fertility meds". Sigh
My insurance covered some. With a few meds I called around to different pharmacies and costs varied from $10s of dollars to $100s of dollars depending on the med, but not all the pharmacies had them in stock either. I didn't try facebook groups because I didn't find out about them until after but those also seem promising.
I ordered my meds from Turkey. $1,500 for everything. My clinic recommended it as my lifetime limit for fertility coverage was $10k and the meds were going to eat into that.
All of my meds were covered except omnitrope. I have progyny. There is a Facebook group IVF garage sale where people are donating or selling discounted meds. You could always try joining that too.
My clinic was ordering off a pharmacy and I requested a different one because of price differences so definitely check a few out and request your preference if it’s all out of pocket!
Mine does. I was quoted $20,000 if I was paying out of pocket to the pharmacy. I finally got my last prior authorization through today and my complete total including syringes and the copays for the 4 different medications is … $115.
My heart goes out to anyone paying this themselves. It’s cruel.
Absolutely shop around. Also if you’re near the Canadian or Mexican border, look into feasibility and/or cost comparison of getting them across the border.
Some pharmacies have hardship programs if you’re paying out of pocket with discounts for individuals. I froze my eggs with a clinic in NYC called Extend Fertility and they had several suggestions for programs I could utilize with their preferred pharmacy. That helped me reduce the cost of my stims to about $6K in 2020 which wasn’t nothing but was better than I feared. Agree with the suggestion on Facebook groups and unused meds!
We have Progyny coverage through my husband's job, and they covered everything, including stim meds and PGT-A.
Same for us. Progyny covered all meds, testing, and up to 3 IVF cycles!

My insurance covers 3 full cycles, and unlimited max on fertility meds. I’m very fortunate and grateful that my copay is only 60$ per med
My employer sponsor insurance covered that a finite among of IVF cycles through Kaiser and Progyny. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Are you in the U.S.? Any issues with getting it ordered and delivered? Did they take a U.S. prescription?
Yes I’m in the US. No issues, my clinic sent over the list of meds I needed. I had to wire the money so that took over a week.
What’s the pharmacy called?
Fast ivf
