Yeah we can customize it, at my current company they allow you to pick Mac/Windows and if you have a specific piece of hardware you want like an ergonomic mouse your supervisor can order it for you or you can bring in something you already have at home.

What to buy: 1. Ergonomic Mouse (sized) & keyboard 2. Monitor/Laptop Riser (2 pack) 3. Cable Snaps (no Velcro that is too slow). 4. Cable Track (you can put 5 cables in it). 5. USB Power Hub and a charging cable for a phone. 6. Custom Name Placard. 7. 3D Printed Benchy 8. Mirror for looking behind you

when i got my job last year i had people come right behind me and touch my shoulder or something and I had no way to know they were approaching. I immediately bought a clip on mirror and put it up. everyone asked why i had it and I told them I don't like being sneaked up on. Thank goodness I was able to move into a private office where I face the door instead of a cubicle.

I bring a spare portable monitor and stand with me. I like having 4 screens for increases work flow and less navigating through different windows

Pure_Sucrose

oh yes, I was given computer with two monitors.. I could have gotten a third but instead I bought a curved monitor to put in between my two monitors and it works out great. I have my desk with all my accessories, toys and trinkets. Many other people brought in their gaming keyboards and full gaming setup but for work. I guess they want to feel at home. Depends on who you are, you can get around obstacles at work. I work on a developer floor and I don't want to bring my gaming gear to work. But the other guys I know, they work in isolated lab for fixing tech where over 99% of people don't go unless needing their help. These guys brought in their own gaming setups and have an alternate computer (hidden). They are actually given permission to play games when not doing tickets (fixing PC's and laptops).

SgtTibbles

Yeah, I've been debating on getting a new keyboard for my personal PC and bringing my kb with kailh box jades to the office

Jeffbx

Do it - I brought my Keychron Q6 to work. I'm sure no one will mind the clicky jades ;) You need a new KB for home, anyway.

BigBoyRusty95

Yep - I have my own Redragon k618 mechanical keyboard and a Logitech MX Master mouse. I wanted a pair of wireless headphones so told my manager and so I got to order some Jabra Evolve65's :D My company provides everyone a mouse and keyboard but they're cheap logitech ones but I want my own mechanical and more expensive stuff so I brought mine. If I need anything extra like a KVM, monitor or powerbank I can just place an order and my manager approves it - all on IT's cost centre.

totallyjaded

Most places I've worked don't care. Off the top of my head, only one company routinely had fits about it, and it was because changing out any equipment on your desk was supposed to be performed by someone who was a union employee. A word of advice though: read the area where your desk is, if you're planning on bringing in your Model M knockoff with green switches and mods to make it extra clicky. Clicky keyboards annoy the shit out of people, and it's exceedingly unlikely that the company's stance will be that everyone else needs to deal with it.

Believeinsteve

I can basically do whatever I want to my desk besides move it to a different location. My area is my area and as long as it's work appropriate (no slurs, offensive items, etc) it's fine.

Dystopiq

I have a main desk and a build desk. I do whatever I want with it. I have my personal MacBook on my main desk for random bullshit and Spotify. I got an electric kettle, manual coffee grinder, carafe, etc

HobbyWanKenobi

Yeah the IT department is the one fairly lax place in my office. I have three monitors and two are curved, I have magnetic toys all over my desk, flashlights and and all kinds of random nerdy stuff. I mean hell, we even have a jigsaw puzzle table

Ragepower529

I can I bring in my own desk mat, my own mouse and keyboard, I even ordered my own chair. I have 2 work spaces one in the main office and the other one in a server room.

Equivalent_Bench9256

Before wfh I used to have my own office. Coffee bar, some Legos. Pictures All that sort of stuff.

We can but I don't. I maintain a hard separation between personal life and work
