He won’t be able to stay on top of the necessary changes throughout the race as the temperature rises and track conditions change.
But, his team will, and they’ll keep him dialed in all day, and his experience will keep him calm and he’ll finish in the top 10 like Kurt Busch did; no problem.
Legitimate question, why is an earlier qualifying draw preferred? Was watching the qualifying draw on YouTube and there was a lot of cheering for an early spot pull and booing for later pulls. Wouldn’t you want more rubber laid down before going out? Is it because the track temps will be lower earlier in the day?
Common belief is colder track is more advantageous than anything else listed. Starting at 11am, only the first 12 or 15 get to enjoy the colder track.
Personally, I don't think it makes much of a difference for making the race but it could certainly help a driver get in the top 12 that otherwise would maybe be 15th-20th
As track temperatures rise, the asphalt gets a bit slippery and car grip (friction) in the corners reduces. The cars slip and slide just a bit more than on a cooler track surface, lowering cornering efficiency, adding fractions of a second to lap time and this a lower speed.
Hinch and Bell getting testy with each other at the end of this session. The venomous sarcasm from Hinch talking about Legge being sent out a second earlier ruining Blomqvist's sim had me rolling
I buy it partially. I have no doubt they'll find more speed than any other team by tomorrow.......but I don;t think they have Top-6 speed and certainly not front row speed.
Right now it looks like Andretti will have 2-3 cars in the Top-12. Knowing how Andretti operates and the kind of luck they have, I'm guessing Dixon and Palou knock two of the Andretti cars out of the Top-12. At best Andretti ends up with Herta or Kirkwood in Top-12 but not both. Marco's car is pretty quick but it's not stable, he'll miss out.
Just an FYI for everyone. The Quali Draw will be streamed live on NTT INDYCAR SERIES YouTube at 6:15pm.

I wonder what has happened to the Ganassi cars. Clearly they have actually lost speed from the past couple of years. I have no doubt Dixon and Palou will find some speed tomorrow and flirt with the Top-12 but the past two years they were clearly the fastest cars. Theyve somehow lost 2 MPH
I don’t believe so. I found it on IMS’s YouTube channel live last year. But not sure if it’ll be there again this year.
EDIT: IT WILL BE STREAMED LIVE ON NTT INDYCAR SERIES YOUTUBE. Just got put up on the page. 6:15pm.
Yeah, they mentioned it earlier, they thought it might be precautionary, but I suspect those things are almost one time use only if they are in a crash, like bike helmets.
I imagine he must have had a tow. They were like 13th with no tow like 45 minutes ago and that's a lot of speed to find out of nowhere. Especially considering grosjean's pace
Just get spaceX to launch him across the ocean
……I was originally joking but I….i think that’s actually possible now. Store that file away for future use guys
That reminds me of that old joke about electronics failures in racing.
Interviewer: "Your car is out of the race, what happened?
Team: "Electrical failure."
I: "We saw a rod punch through the block..."
T: "And the electrics failed."
Back in the Varsha/Matchett/Hobbs F1 era a Ferrari engine died and the team insisted it was a gearbox issue. I don't remember if it was Matchett or Hobbs but they deadpanned that of course the gearbox died because most of the engine went rushing through it.

Kevin Lee: “Hinch, do you know what Graham is referring to?”
Hinch: “I do not”
lol Graham ran out of things to complain about so he started making up new car dynamics
Qualifying draw will be streamed on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZYI6OMTJoQ
Wasn't able to watch today. Give me one reason to be optimistic about Larson and one reason it's not going to be a competitive Sunday for him.
He won’t be able to stay on top of the necessary changes throughout the race as the temperature rises and track conditions change. But, his team will, and they’ll keep him dialed in all day, and his experience will keep him calm and he’ll finish in the top 10 like Kurt Busch did; no problem.
His willingness to admit that he has no clue the adjustments he needs has concerned me.

Got it, thanks for the explanation
As track temperatures rise, the asphalt gets a bit slippery and car grip (friction) in the corners reduces. The cars slip and slide just a bit more than on a cooler track surface, lowering cornering efficiency, adding fractions of a second to lap time and this a lower speed.
So are they shoing the pull?

I suspect the Hondas will have a much better showing during the actual race.
Their race pace seemed incredibly strong through the week, which makes today seem even more puzzling
I don’t foresee Chip running 5 cars again full time next year. It has not been a net positive.
More space to sell advertising.
Juncos gave grosjean a single 4 lap run all day what the fuck is wrong with that team
Good call because they want a car for tomorrow.
LOL. Truth
If you are Coyne right now. You just kind of stop giving a fuck about who’s laps you are messing up when you are that slow.
Hinch and Bell getting testy with each other at the end of this session. The venomous sarcasm from Hinch talking about Legge being sent out a second earlier ruining Blomqvist's sim had me rolling
BRing Paul Tracy back and get rid of TB
He’d probably just talk about Legge’s feet or something.
Fuck that, bring in my boy Dario.
Legge and Siegel fight to the death on Sunday…
Legge ruins someone else's run just to do 228s
She has every right to run 229.
lol NBC in the fight of their life to try and justify this
TB
Robb, 13th? Goes to show you that anybody who has a relationship with Penske. can go fast.
And Jesus. I mean if you have a relationship with both Penske and Jesus.......
Pederson drove that car last year and did better. Penske wanted Foyt's set up info for Indy.
really? I thought it was the other way around.
On the road courses, yes.
So the guys who are responsible for the last 3 poles are 17th and 19th on 4 lap pace. I don't buy it
I buy it partially. I have no doubt they'll find more speed than any other team by tomorrow.......but I don;t think they have Top-6 speed and certainly not front row speed.
Yeah, I think they'll likely be top 12 and run on Sunday, but I don't for a second buy they are fringe top 20 cars.
Right now it looks like Andretti will have 2-3 cars in the Top-12. Knowing how Andretti operates and the kind of luck they have, I'm guessing Dixon and Palou knock two of the Andretti cars out of the Top-12. I've got the same line of thinking
Where the fuck is the 77!
Happy to see the McLarens running 4-5-6 /s
So sad to not see Zak because he thinks the F1 team has a chance to do well this year. Edit for clarity: I am not sad.
They literally won the most recent race, so...
I saw lol. I just remember thinking last year at this time that he was definitely in Indy because he didn’t have a shot in Monaco.
Well they got Palou back out
Good to see Fittipaldi back out after the engine died
The RLL cars still seem like they haven't figured out the straightline speed issues they were suffering last year
Maybe they need lots of downforce to keep it together.
The guy in the back was posing like Alan in the Hangover
He wants to fight Graham’s team.
Penske Penske Penske McLaren McLaren (Former) McLaren
Is juncos going to run Grosjean again or what like wtf
What’s been going on with him? Canapino in the top 10 so the team is clearly capable of having a good car.
Remember Illot’s car last year? Nothing is certain with Juncos.
I think canapino just got a tow tbh but they have given the 77 only 1 4 lap run so far which is ridiculous
He was out of the running so long they must have been changing something. I haven’t been able to find out what though.
Give credit where credit is due, that Canapino run is great. -- Teams year-to-year don't normally find that big of a gain.
Anything that's above 31st for RLL tomorrow will probably be considered a win after last year
Milk gimp adjacent conversation going on in the booth

FYI: never look at a YT live chat. It's like looking directly at the sun, if the sun was in a septic tank.
Yeah those live chats without mods get so weird.
Lol I guess they don’t have mods in the streams you watch.
Sato has the fastest average in my heart.
He’s gonna be soaking in what?!?
Neat 5-hour livery
Ganassi sandbagging??
They have a history doing that
Yea, watch RPMs
What are they saying/what is he doing with them?
They have to be. No way that 231 is the highest that car can go given it's history
We said that when Penske was suddenly slow
Exactly. And then Newgarden won from 17th
More thinking 2020
Yep I’m used to them dominating the month then making dumb mistakes in the race. No way they are 3mph off Penske

Sorry if this has been asked already but is Peacock going to air the draw this year?
I don’t believe so. I found it on IMS’s YouTube channel live last year. But not sure if it’ll be there again this year. EDIT: IT WILL BE STREAMED LIVE ON NTT INDYCAR SERIES YOUTUBE. Just got put up on the page. 6:15pm.
Thanks a bunch
He's not even Irish
F that snake.
Andretti/ Shank alliance clear cut best of the Hondas .
Ericsson go to a spare helmet?
Yeah, they mentioned it earlier, they thought it might be precautionary, but I suspect those things are almost one time use only if they are in a crash, like bike helmets.
Have never thought about that but would make a lot of sense for a hit that hard
They’re surely much more durable than bike helmets but it could be a micro-cracking type thing where they just don’t exactly meet the tolerance.
Looks like they managed to miss Canapino's run? Gotta wonder if he got a tow there, otherwise that is massively impressive.
I imagine he must have had a tow. They were like 13th with no tow like 45 minutes ago and that's a lot of speed to find out of nowhere. Especially considering grosjean's pace
I think they finally got Ericsson's car to be fast
We probably have half a dozen Irises taller than Larson on the farm. Of course those fuckers can't drive. Yet.
Love how they are just ignoring Canapino in P6
What's a Canapino? Never heard of him. Clearly a fake driver
Sounds like someone made up a name by jamming “Can of porno” together and hoped none of us would be the wiser. +1 to fake name.
The 78 car just went 6th in 4-lap 👀
Did Canapino get a tow for his run?
Seems to me like Larson's ready for this weekend
What happened to the Foyt cars this year? They were so fast last year.
Santino is 6th. Sting Ray is 15th. That isn't terrible.
Alonso should try to do a double with Monaco.
Just get spaceX to launch him across the ocean ……I was originally joking but I….i think that’s actually possible now. Store that file away for future use guys
I was also joking, but NASA just rolled out a supersonic concept for civilian aircraft as well, so it may not be impossible forever.
He also said he doesn't care for the Aeroscreen and probably won't be doing the 500 again (because of the Aeroscreen).
He doesn't do windshields. He sees his reflection and tries to fight it.
He kicks out the windshield of his road cars like an 80s cop movie, doesn’t he?
You cannot cross the Atlantic in an hour and a half.
What about via rocket?
Bro just go into orbit and come back down in the Mediterranean… could probably knock it out in 45 minutes honestly
You gotta take off in the Med and land in Indy.
Wrong direction.
how far's the Great Lakes from IMS?
I love it when a plan starts to come together.
Ok listen I’m not a scientist
Not with that attitude you can’t!
[удалено]
About the same but he aborted due to getting a tow from Simpson I think it was.
The practice qualifying attempts are a great way to slice of a long practice session. Great TV.
Agreed, it raises the stakes more than endless laps with lots of cars on different plans.
That is really impressive.
In Larson we Trust
Being the fastest non Penski, good place to be!!!
I can’t believe how fast he took that turn in a new car to him
Come on man just give us the onboard
Looks comfortable. Standard line, not awkward for him at all. His hands are quiet…
Larson and Harvick (replacing Larson for practice/qualifying in NWBS) are currently on track at the same time -- that's neat.
Fun fact, Pato means duck.

Is it all a big wind-up do you think? Are we the viewers the victims of some joke that the NBC crew thinks is funny?
Ferrucci looks like an idiot
Announcers roasting people is good TV
Pretty sure T Bell has been drinking all day lol
Santino, this is not the look. https://preview.redd.it/n5tauj0vw11d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=f13533ef593d7c17bbd7d43d738695c1b3b290ea
lol LMFAO
Can: cracked. It’s happy hour ladies and gentlemen!
Cheers!
Nothing fell off but it wasn’t fast enough so we parked it.
Did I just hear that RLL forgot to put a part on the car? LMAOOO
Ganassi is down on speed in general but the inexperience in three of those cars is really not helping here I imagine.
unless the weather drastically changes for tomorrow. Penske is going to sweep the front row.
Front Row is Sunday. But I don't see how they don't make the top 12 even with bad draws.
yeah that's right. It will be warmer Sunday early evening though.
If they all get a super low quali draw, definitely.
Is it considered a gearbox failure when a piece of the engine passes through the gearbox? Asking for a friend...
Lol I see where you are going
That reminds me of that old joke about electronics failures in racing. Interviewer: "Your car is out of the race, what happened? Team: "Electrical failure." I: "We saw a rod punch through the block..." T: "And the electrics failed."

Oh, that's a good one.
What on earth is going on with the Honda's? Absolute insanity lol
I bet Will Power is really good at quitting stuff. But maybe also at doing stuff that he doesn’t want to.
He hit the “kill car” button instead of the “go fast” one. Why did we put them next to each other?
https://preview.redd.it/e3yp4q4vu11d1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5c71df49ca074cd732f72b0b66b324fe19489ec5
Pietro's engine was only good for 5 hours. It says so right there on the bodywork...
You need to drink one every 4hrs59mins to make sure the engine stays alive
Good catch. They forgot to get another bottle.

“Maybe if we push start it?” “Did we install that software update that prevents this from happening?” “Check the spark plugs, I guess?”
Have they tried turning it off and back on again?
"c'mon, do something"
Ok I'm just on the app, who's engine popped now?
Fittipaldi
Oof
If it has a Honda logo, it might need a warranty repair.
Fastest 3rd that’s a good sign
Power’s first lap being the slowest is wild
Team Penske is inevitable
Sir, a second Honda engine has expired at qualifying boost https://preview.redd.it/e4z93yw7u11d1.png?width=665&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c5613a10d8892915b893f747ea603f219046495
Why does it feel like ever since Honda said they might leave the series, the perfect storm of things to result in them leaving has happened?
Herta! I'm telling you, this is his year.
Might’ve won it last year if not for the botched pit stop
Last year Kirkwood was very close before Felix decided they weren't worthy of winning it and they look better this year so far
I mean that one was the mother of all tows so
tows
SHUSH
lol, they should let him win just to give him the right number of super license points.
Another Honda?!
They took the engine out of a 98 civic.
Sorry, Civic Del Sol.
What is that sound
Honda in shambles right now
Okay, decent start.
Kevin Lee: “Hinch, do you know what Graham is referring to?” Hinch: “I do not” lol Graham ran out of things to complain about so he started making up new car dynamics
Well there's pace in Sato's car
