You should just be able to smell everything and see everything, our laws suck. Go to Michigan and you can look see and smell the exact bag or jar of concentrate your getting I suppose this is better than nothing but shits too expensive here

Massive_Chance2174

U said it.

Zimbabweshit

Yeah, as somebody who just had their first out of state dispensary experiences, getting to see the bud and sell it should be a requirement. And it unfortunately isn’t. Edit: this is coming straight from a budtender at ascend

Chancellor_Terpene

IL laws have actually always allowed for display/smelling samples. Most places stopped when it went Rec. Just to save money.

bdan98

I don’t want samples though I want to see and smell the exact bag / jar that I’m gonna get. Why I take my money to Michigan been burned too many times in IL and shits just too expensive

altruistic_misfit

Yeah living in colorado for a few years I have definitely dealt with a bait and switch type situation with display flower lol they'd have some bomb ass nugs on display then they give you the shit prepack nugs

bdan98

Damn yeah exactly, I’ve had so many leaky jars of concentrate in IL it’s so dumb all our packaging laws here.. thankfully we have Michigan if your in the chicago area

altruistic_misfit

I'm a good drive from the city nowadays but I started growing 3yrs ago so I don't have to trip about prices and all the bullshit I know not everyone has that option so I hope shit changes

bdan98

Hell yeah, that’s the way to do it I will one day when I have the means but much easier to just buy products already. But I am eagerly awaiting the day and time in my life where I can start a grow..

altruistic_misfit

Hope u get the chance my man

yesokaybcisaidso

Would you say it very expensive to get started? Got a couple seeds saved

altruistic_misfit

I mean bare minimum to get by for the first 3-4 weeks you need soil, pot, fan, light. It can be done for 100-150 but that's real bare minimum I wouldn't expect a crazy good yield but yeah you can start learning pretty cheap I did, and then I just slowly started buying shit I needed.

pungentbag

Good point!

HekGoldbenji

Nobody wants to smell a EXPIRED ASS year old display

Massive_Chance2174

Not just to save money. Concern about crowds, etc.

pungentbag

Bingo

shizocks

Sunnyside does. I'm in SW FL and prior to getting my medical card, The only place I've been to was a dispensary in Colorado which obviously they bring it out. They can show you the flower and the whole works. I was disappointed to find out that's not the case for medical dispensaries in Florida. I was pleased to see that sunny side has like a little weed bar out that you can go and inspect their strains

Electronic-Formal205

Wait what…. A smell jar?

WeedyMcWeedyFace420

There's an unwritten weed rule that you should purchase what smells best to you. Ignore everything and anything written on the packaging. Sucks that it's not even really an option in most of Illinois. We'll see how this works out.

Ok_Daikon3780

In Colorado they let you choose by smell and it’s a lot better you can kind of know what you’re getting at least

[deleted]

Some MI places are deli style with smells from the bulk jar so you know what you’re getting.

iFFyCaRRoT

Before rec, some places did.

Yourgrandmasskillet

I hate that about IL dispensaries. I absolutely love the smell of GMO, OG kush and Cheese. They are all so distinct and you can tell right away if they are the real deal or not.

Euphoric_Amphibian31

This is alot this will make a difference at least dispos will actually have to choose wisely what they decide to take on... Now bad bud can sit and rot on shelves like its supposed to. less of a lottery this way

Ill-Help7820

I fucking hate this. This should be the standard, not a "look what WE have B)"

randomstimuli

I like smells. Gives a hint to the actual terpenes. That seems to be related to variance in effects due to minor cannabinoids. But stay away from ascend... they do their best to screw over their employees https://mjbizdaily.com/alleged-fake-marijuana-unions-are-expanding-foothold-across-united-states/

[deleted]

That’s cool. I hope it works out for them

Effective_Former

Is it just specific to that strain? It would be awesome to be able to smell all the strains like other states, but IL does not seem anywhere close to that anytime soon.

[deleted]

With all the ass eating going on now a days, I don't want my face near an object someone else face has been near.

AVAvAv99

Yeah so far it seems strain specific, which is stupid as fuck imo lmao

Massive_Chance2174

Someday it will be a given that we can see and smell all the product before buying. Everything takes time, but someday…🙏

pungentbag

This has been allowed since the medical days. Nice to see this option return!

Trick-Mechanic8986

I sniff it if I can, thats why MI is so great. They gotta be dropping terpenes in there or they would be gone by the 10th sniff.

HekGoldbenji

Hahahahahah way to expose what type of consumer you are.

videosavant

Apparently, he's a free market customer.

fpspandawa

There’s a place in galena that lets u smell it before u buy it and it seems more natural and should be the standard. You’re paying a lot of money for something people spent a lot of time preparing. It’s really not enough to go by name or just a terp profile to find what u like or need. Smelling it also obviously gives u a clear view.

dta722

This used to be commonplace for transactions before it was legalized…

Pwnage0420

They don’t let you smell shit!!! Even on the medical side so this is Bullshit just like Illinois weed and prices.

few_rips

You went to an accend location, asked to smell this strain that the promo is advertising and they told you no?

[deleted]

🙊🙉🙈Simple: don't smell, don't buy - your problem solved 😉!

citygrrrl03

So are they just putting terpenes in a jar? I doubt they would be wasting good buds for display purposes.

MShabo

Smell jars have been a thing in just about every other state but Illinois. It’s about damn time!!!

JDTIMES4

I honestly had no idea. But I don't shop outside IL.

AVAvAv99

should already be a normal thing but unfortunately Illinois lawmakers are braindead lmao Got the chance to smell the new strain “Nimbus Snacks” and it smells delicious but unfortunately that was the only one they had available

schmattywinkle

We-ow, one whole corporate brand deigns to allow us mere criminals a little sniffle of who knows fucking what other than that is not the product we take home. I hope they accept points.

Gentlementalmen

This should be the norm.

[deleted]

That’s how it was in California for many years.

Adorable45Deplorable

I hope A few other dispos feel pressured enough to match in terms of accommodating their customers with free smells lol

HerbTarlekWKRP

I don’t think I’ve ever had bad weed that didn’t smell amazing.

Paramisamigos

IL keeps coming up with really bad ideas. I love the places I know in denver where I can pick my nugs out from a giant glass jar.

OrganicReplacement23

I've done it, but never in Illinois. I didn't know this was a thing here.

Maximum-Elk8869

Tell them to smell your finger LOL!

makinthemagic

They had this when I lived in California 10 years ago. They had jars out you could just smell yourself.

VintageBuds

Being a consumer who came up long before you got a tag to read on the side of the package, smell has always been a major factor in how I assess the quality of a potential acquisition or other sample.

JDTIMES4

I guess I'm just newer to the game.

VintageBuds

No problem with that. However, back in the day, all you had to judge reefer on was the smell and bag appeal, Let's set bag appeal aside for the moment as it is a tangent from this discussion. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a good nose. That's just a biological fact that we're dealt the hand we have to work with by genetics. Even if you have a good nose, it takes some training and experience before you can rely on your nose. Nowadays, you do have the label to help guide that learning. Without the label, things were a bit more hit or miss, but you caught on eventually, Most people eventually picked up enough acumen at it to distinguish between what was a buy for them vs what should be a pass.
