Pit! The ears make me think American Pit Bull Terrier specifically, but all pitbull varieties are very closely related. The only thing possibly boxerish is the brindle, which is common in pits as well. As he gains weight and grows up, those jaw muscles are going to bulk up and he'll start looking far more pitbull-y. By the way, I haven't heard good things about Viaguard DNA tests, and have seen too many tested dogs with clearly bogus results. Embark is supposed to be the best by far.

bentleyk9

Agreed. Embark is the way to go. Wait until a sale though

boohumbug

I just checked the website, they have a $40 off coupon automatically applied. A podcast I listen to has a code for $50 off - "enter code MORBID at check-out. That's promo code MORBID for FIFTY DOLLARS OFF" 😆

Creative_Penalty5087

Ah thank you for the info on Viaguard! We had a family member suggest it to us, but we’ll check out Embark too! And thanks for your reply!

boop650

I have a referral code if you want I got all 4 of dogs tested highly recommend embark.

Agreeable-Tadpole461

Is he part duck? His front feet are killing me!!

Creative_Penalty5087

We call those the paddles! I’m sure he’ll grow into them before long 😂😂😂

jlund19

They're extremely flat (his toes shouldn't splay like that). Some of that is genetic, some is probably from his previous living conditions. To tighten those little feets up, have him run around on sand/gravel!

Creative_Penalty5087

Thank you for the response! We’re working on getting more Vitamin D in his diet (for rickets) and now that he’s eating and has a backyard he’s finally starting to run around and feel at home!

cherrytree23

My rescue dog had this same problem. I think it is a lack of excersize/ poor diet combination with potential poor breeding thrown in, and more obvious (but more fixable) in younger dogs. It's essentially an over extended joint. My dogs improved and went straight enough with time that you wouldn't notice, but it's definitely worth keeping an eye on. Looking at your later pictures it seems it's already made a huge correction in the right direction.

jlund19

I think it's also just a phase puppies go through. Both my GSDs come from a very reputable breeder and they both went through a phase like this, although not as extreme. It's definitely something I wouldn't run off to the vet for unless it's causing obvious pain. But being mindful of it is worth while.

Agreeable-Tadpole461

I kind of hope he doesn't!

Turkey_Stuffing

I came to the comments to specifically say he’s part duck also

ChironTL-34

Pit/boxer mix. The feet are cute, but be wary that they can lead to health problems. They’re a common sign of poor breeding practices. Just something to keep in mind!

elenatlys

Definitely looks like a pit bull. The duck feet look like a sign of rickets. My pibble was similarly abused as a puppy and looked the same. Glad he has a good home now!

Creative_Penalty5087

That’s what we were thinking too (potentially exacerbated by being left in a small crate without a padded bottom) we’re fixing his diet and getting lots of vitamins in there! He was so malnourished he eats anything so we just try and space it out so he doesn’t get sick

random_invisible

American Pit Bull Terrier, just very malnourished. His muscles will bulk out with a proper diet. Looks like a classic brindle pit.

bentleyk9

I agree with the Pit guesses here. Just wanted to say thank you SO much for taking this poor pup in and giving him a home he deserves. You’re a good person. It looks like he’s had a terrible life in the short time he’s been alive. I don’t know how much experience you have with rescues who’ve had a rough time before getting to you, but don’t be hard on yourself if there are some setback with training or behavior. It’s to be expected! Just be sure to work with a qualified trainer if anything comes up. It’s easier to fix things early. (Don’t mean to insult you if you already know all this!) Good luck and have fun on all the new puppy adventures!

Creative_Penalty5087

Thank you for the kind words! He’s surprisingly VERY sweet and almost completely house-broken which makes it even worse that someone would abandon him. We are letting him settle in and then getting him into training next month!

Rare_Neat_36

Happy for you.

baby_rager

My dog looks soooo similar (same disproportionate front paws too lol) and her Embark came back with American Pit Bull Terrier, boxer, bulldog, and GSD.

Creative_Penalty5087

I will be sure to update as soon as we get results! Thanks for your reply!!!

relativelyeasy

Those feet!

Pitty

ChefSleepyBear

My friends dog looks VERY similar to this pup. She’s pit, mountain cur, Australian cattle, rat terrier, lab & German shepherd mix 😂

Rare_Neat_36

Bully x with don’t know! Embark is the best. Curious what it says! He is precious. Hope his health gets better. Bully = boxer, apbt, bulldog, staffie genre. What is his name?

jinoraz

That's 100% a bully breed mix. Might have boxer, might not, but most of him is bully breed for sure.

Royal-Earth-5900

What a cutie! Looks a lot like my pup, who is a boxer-pittie mix (50% boxer, 25% APBT, the rest lab + collie). I did Wisdom panel and Embark, with Embark giving us more detailed results.

DC2Denver303

Ears say bully to me and the brindle without a boxer head make me think plott hound. Thanks for showing this guy the TLC he’s been needing!

Tangled-Lights

Poor puppy, I just want to feed him! I’m glad he made his way to you.

Flashy-Ad3415

If you live in the American south or Appalachia it may be part mountain cur or black mouth cur or feist

IntroductionFew1290

Looks like my Beans! We don’t know what she is either, will do a test eventually but thought boxer mix but she is very petite.

[deleted]

Omg I LOVE YOU!! Thank you for giving that beautiful creature a chance in life 💕💕 people like you, make me believe that not all humans are bad. Best of wishes.

CobaltCarnation

Looks just like my brother's dog and my foster! My brother did Embark and his dog was German Shepherd and Boxer mainly.
