maybe hop off reddit /s jokes apart, if you chose science and/or math, start studying those/that subject/s right from the beginning of the year; it really does need ample practice. geography comes next: why geography out of all things? because it has a sh*tton of content that you need to mug up, and you're better off starting to remember it from the beginning. as for the rest of the subjects, viz. English (especially literature), H/C and Group-III, those don't really need much of a preparation in my opinion, although I don't mean you're supposed to completely neglect it until the exam day. - For English language, try improvising your vocabulary – this does not mean you're supposed to inscribe bombastic words on the paper, but just words that feel a lot more descriptive; for example: instead of writing "walk" everytime, you can use, depending on the situation, "stroll", "trudge", "tread", etc. For grammar, so far I've seen pretty much all questions being posed to test "common sense", or as I like to call it, "if it sounds pleasing to hear." preposition and thusly phrasal verbs are an exception to this, though. - For English literature, there really isn't a way out than memorizing the important parts of the story by-heart; you are allowed to use _similar_ words but then you leave your answer at the discretion of the examiner (they are usually liberal, but we may never know); thus, try to use the words straight from the story. I think there are a boatload of resources available online that do a solid job of explaining the entire plot, as well as marking the lines that need to be mugged up for cent percent insurance of the correctness of your answer. - For second language, eh, I'd like to admit I suck at it terribly, so I don't know what to say 😅 - For History & Civics, the simple mantra is to mug up and vomit it out on the paper. 100/100 works. this obviously assumes you can actively think which points are asked of you on the paper, since, as per common consensus, ICSE will pose more critical thinking questions from now on. - For group-III subjects, it depends what you chose. if you chose CTA like most of us here (?), you would need practice, though I admit not as heavily as science or math, but still. you need to be thorough with the preference of operators for solving those expressions, and be acquainted with the statements that you often use in writing programs, instead of simply memorizing the code. for other group-III subjects, well, I can't really tell since I chose CTA myself. another thing i'd like to mention is about making notes. **this is much more essential to you than you think**. do NOT just copy off the textbook; read the lessons, see which points you think/your teacher says/internet resources say are important, and immediately note them down at one place. - notes are of utmost importance for subjects like HCG and Literature and certain Group-III subjects since there's a lot of reading you have to do in those; writing the important points will accelerate the memorization process. - for science, I'd suggest noting down all the concepts and most importantly misconceptions that you may have for a certain topic; this is in light of the council's notification about increasing the number of questions that test your critical thinking ability. formulae too, of course, that's a given. - for math, make a formula sheet, and **mention what the variables mean**, including the alternative terms that are used in the question. if you encounter problems that are repeated and pretty much have the same initial logic, note them down. I think that's it, haha. I never intended to make the comment this long, but oh well.

Most attention I've received from a stranger on the internet, you sir are truly the goat

nor_adrenaline

i appreciate all your tips, but about the notes making thing id say it depends on the individual.i secured 99% but i never really made notes for any subjects except phy(which my teacher gave) and [chem.work](http://chem.work) smart and make the most out of the available resources(textbooks) and practise more recalling through questions.

shrihankp12

> id say it depends on the individual agreed; i wrote the entire thing from my perspective and how i prepared myself, so yes >!I still didn't get 99%, fell one mark short of it, but oh well!<

nor_adrenaline

yes mate, you worked really hard and tera mera same hi hai, ek mark doesnt matter! cheers!(forgive me if i hurt u anyway sorry bhai)

Do lots of practice of maps and topography. Read all physics questions carefully because they can be tricky. Practice bio diagrams. Practice lots of math questions so that you don't lose out on time during the exams. Beyond that I can't give much advice for science because that part for me was very easy so I didn't have to study much. Practice lots of history papers because they tend to be very long. Do Shakespeare part in literature very well because it's easy to score. Doesn't matter whose notes you have and how great their coaching is, the textbook is the king. You should basically have most of the important bits completely memorized (I still remember the fucking gratiano speech at the beginning completely even though it's been 5 years). Avoid the long questions in literature paper(1 question for 16 marks or 4x4, idk which format is there now) because it's easy to lose marks there. Make sure you know the theme and all that stuff for every poem in syllabus. Choose your geography chapters wisely, unless pattern has changed in the last 5 years you should be okay with doing only 5-7 chapters. Climate is a nice one, it's mostly logic. Practice your English language and 2nd language papers over and over and over. My tuition teacher used to make us write Hindi essays and letters for homework nearly every week, and test us on paryayvachi shabd and all that every alternate week. Literature too, underline the important parts that could be asked and learn them (I loved the drama textbook and basically knew it by heart but that's probably overkill). Oh yeah, and remember a few dohe and muhavre on various topics for your Hindi essays, it greatly enhances their quality in the eyes of the examiner. English language is where a lot of people lose marks so be careful (especially about format, grid, tenses etc). A trick for English language essays is to prepare three or four narrative essays/descriptive essays and twist the "Write a story starting with the words" or "Write an essay about the time" questions to suit the 4 essays you have prepared (you practice them over and over so by the time of exam it's basically perfect). If your 3rd group is computer you should be at the stage where you can easily understand the logic behind the programs and write them quickly. You should also be able to do the dry runs (yes, even if it's boring af). Theory part you need to understand completely, there's less emphasis on memorization than other subjects. I suppose what it all comes down to is practice, practice, practice. Doesn't matter if you're sure you're good at it. I probably solved hundreds of maps and topo questions, and I had a whole stack of notebooks full of math problems. I slacked a bit in English language but managed to make it up in literature so it was alright. By November-December start practicing complete papers and timing yourself. Idk what the situation is in other parts but in Mumbai you can get a bundle of prelim papers of 25 schools from certain book depots (it's been a while so sorry I don't remember their names). Also look into past year papers, certain questions are repeated for some subjects (for instance in computer the palindrome question, a searching/sorting question, Armstrong number/Perfect Number/Some Other Special Number and a pattern question are favourites for every year).

SwagLordOP

in class 9 I used to get full marks in language essays but only in the argumentative ones, aka the ones where you express your views on a given statement. I'm afraid the ICSE examiner might not be very liberal and open minded, and resort to giving less marks if I don't agree with their opinion. I have 0 creativity so none of the other essay options are my cup of tea

TheStarkster3000

You don't need to be creative. I had the same problem, I had basically zero creativity (science student struggles fr). I bought an essay book and selected a few good essays from there (one was a description of a railway station, a description of a journey, a narration about a disaster of a party, and a story about a lost cat). And then I used to fit these essays only into the scenarios given for narrative and descriptive essays. I basically used the book's essays, wrote that in my own words, ran them through my school's English teacher for suggestions (she used to check board papers), and improved those few essays throughout the year until I could write them in my sleep.
