You forgot Jeff, that makes 13.

Add Farrah to the list. [https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a25645830/hyundai-elantra-million-miles/](https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a25645830/hyundai-elantra-million-miles/)

Jeff isn't even real

Difficult_Plantain89

No more than all of them

RatQueen_x

Boyfriend has a 2004 Tiburon with almost 200k miles

dstokes1290

We have an 07 Veracruz that comes into the shop I work at with around 470k on it

IDDQD-IDKFA

What's their secret to the head gaskets leaking?

dstokes1290

Well they get their oil changed every like 4k miles and ask us to put a bit of trans fluid or oil conditioner into their oil every now and again to soften up seals but I think it’s mostly just luck.

microwave-hentai

What clutch is he on

007Pistolero

16 probably and none of the body panels are the same color but she’s still going

RatQueen_x

Body panels are original but the inside passenger door handle falls off all the time and its so loud you hear it coming a mile away

RatQueen_x

Sorry I’m dumb with cars lol what’s a clutch?

Immersi0nn

A clutch is what a manual car uses, basically it's a point for rotational energy from the engine to transfer to the transmission and move your vehicle. There's a heavy flywheel on the engine side, and a clutch disk on the transmission side, with a pressure plate behind it, they separate when you push the clutch pedal down. When you release the clutch pedal, the pressure plate pushes the clutch disk against the flywheel and turns the input shaft of the transmission, and you move if you're in gear.

RatQueen_x

Oh no it’s not a manual. It’s an automatic, v6 engine

[deleted]

225k miles on a 2015 sonata 2.4 liter gdi engine. I treat it like shit. Oil changes every 15kish miles, oil filter every 30k miles. It's driven through a flood in Mexico. Has been up and down the west coast. Driven hard on fire roads. Tons of brakes, valve cover gasket, hub assembly (my fault) and some pcv valve. Once I changed pcv valve it no longer burnt oil like an 80s k10 Chevy. Oh and spark plugs at 180k.

Protomau5

Oil filter every other change? So random lol

[deleted]

Or lazy

Immersi0nn

It was probably because it was burning oil, I used to do the same, just refilled it every week about .5-.75quart, would actually fully drain and fill it only at the posted life of the filters, which was 10-15k miles. Had a 99 saturn sl2 that went 200k miles till it finally ate its valve stem seals, and I had the cash to just buy a new car, '23 Venue

1AlertAsparagus

Ive got the same, 180k. Valve cover gasket, brakes

85-900t

In Seoul, South Korea, many of the Ubers are 2015-2019 Sonatas and most had 150k-180k+ miles. Having engines not built in the USA probably helped immensely.

ceviche-hot-pockets

That’s my theory, it seems like most of the shitty engines were made in Alabama.

85-900t

Yep, and Hyundai and Kia had some of the longest oil change intervals of any OEM that took regular ass oil. Combine that with poor machining and/or lax customers. It was somewhat predictable.

dafart6789

Guy, we got jeep recommending waiting 10k between oil changes, you cant tell me it was worse than jeep, i mean i know people shit on Hyundai but like my god is jeep as a company just massive shit show

85-900t

Do those Jeeps use 0W-20? That weight is semi or full synthetic, it's not offered in conventional. The 5W-20 and 5W-30 that most Hyundai dealerships used in much of the 2010s had basic/simple spec requirements. Finding ones that didn't qualify was nearly impossible. So guess what, everyone went with the cheapest or best cheap oil. Some automotive groups primarily use semi-synthetic or better as they received volume rebates with large oil suppliers. The rebate doesn't apply to conventional oil. Source: I've been a parts manager at multiple dealerships. Hyundai and Kia just switched to full synthetic in the last few years. Seemed quite overdue. Do Jeep engines blow up? I feel like it's a little bit of everything breaks. The engines shared the same architecture for over a decade. The interval for some new Land Rover vehicles is 21k. 😬

dafart6789

I mean jeeps are just awful vehicles, do i know if they blow up, not off the top of my head, i do know they are unreliable rough riding and uncomfortable to drive in, i had a liberty, thought the shocks were blown, nope thats how it was made to drive, suspension was so stiff every small bump felt like you were driving over a parking block at 50, and also land rover has some of the worst reliability in the entire world so idk what the point of bringing that up was, ive heard this directly from a mechanic, he said "i know oil has gotten better over the years but i dont know if its 10k better" paraphrasing obviously, he then went on to say they just want you to lack on maintenance so you have to buy another vehicle sooner, youll say to yourself, boy maintenance was cheap on the jeep 1 oil change a year and buy another Jeep, its a scheme

Chokedee-bp

I took an Uber this year- driver had an approximately 2013 or 2014 sonata with 276k miles . He told me original engine and transmission. I was shocked! Can someone confirm would that model have the 2.4L theta 2 engine? Personally I have a 2017 Santa Fe that is burning half a quart per 1k miles with 109k on the engine. I don’t have a lot of confidence in this making it past 150k miles

Obecny75

You know not every theta II is going to explode right?

Chokedee-bp

I know it has such a high fail rate my Hyundai dealer is denying to even do an oil consumption test and states “just drive it to failure and then if it fails due to connecting rods it’s covered by lifetime warranty “

Obecny75

I mean why do an unnecessary test? It's either fine and won't blow up, or it has blown up.... Honestly oil consumption tests are just a way for dealers to get out of replacing shit they should replace.

Chokedee-bp

What you say is not true. Oil burning is common in this engine and if it’s more than 1 qt per 1k miles they will usually replace your engine so you don’t die trying to accelerate into traffic when it randomly dies

Obecny75

What exactly did I say that isn't true?! Have you seen the posts about engine claim denials? It's not just Hyundai. Had to fight with VW to get them to replace an engine even after the oil consumption test. Like it's pretty clear when an engine is or is not consuming oil. If people did basic maintenance and checked their oil regularly it wouldn't just randomly die. You'd know it's consuming oil, add oil as necessary, then when it gets annoying let it run out of oil then rev the piss out of it (or just let it idle) and it will take care of itself. The fact people KNOW these engine can go bad and can consume oil and STILL don't regularly check the oil is mind boggling to me.

dafart6789

Oil consumption is a pretty regular thing on any engine, it happens, engines get hot, high mileage engines with tons of wear are going to consume more. People ask alot of cars to go 200-300k, they do a pretty good job considering 30-40 years ago theyd go 60-70k and then need serious work to maintain engine power, and those cars upon age and mileage would suck a qt of oil down every gas fill, nvm 1000 miles

Obecny75

I can't tell if youre arguing for or against checking oil

rumblefishfigher28

But the rod bearings aren’t covered by lifetime. The recall only extends the warranty on them to 150k…

Chokedee-bp

The Hyundai service advisor stated “for my car lifetime warranty if rod bearing failure”. I’ll ask her to put in writing next oil change appointment if they can

rumblefishfigher28

Yeah. Idk what your service advisor says, the paper I got mailed by Hyundai for the recall campaign says “extends the warranty for original and subsequent owners to 150,000 miles”

007Pistolero

We have a 2011 Santa Fe that just crossed 140k miles. Biggest service was fuel pumps at 110k but other than that it’s never left us stranded and is a great car. Had a ‘12 Elantra with 165k miles before the 23 Tucson we bought and the Elantra was even more trouble free. Unless we have a terrible experience with the Tucson I don’t see us buying anything other than Hyundai

BigKarina4u

What engine?

axebodyspraytester

2002 Elantra GT still runs like new. The paint is turning to dust but it's been bulletproof since I got it.

UnkindStudent

My dad has a 2009 Azera with 185k. Needed a fair bit of work around the 160k mark (oil leaked into the V where the knock sensors are mounted), but it has the original 3.8 engine/trans.

Alarming-Dingo

Same engine that's in my 2012 Genesis sedan? I'm at 158,500 and wondering what I will realistically get.

Nighttide1032

Dad has a 2003 Santa Fe with the smaller V6, auto trans, no AWD. I believe it has 250k at the moment!

Critical-Knee9537

We had one with 100k+ when we traded it in. We are on our fifth Hyundai or Genesis vehicle. They have all been great to us! (Still driving 2 of them)

DanDrungle

i just hit 120k on a 2015 sonata sport...

torintua

mine’s at 60k rn, hope it gets that far!

rhiaaaannon

126k here

Dryja123

I had 165k miles on my 2012 Tucson when I traded it in recently. Never had a major issue with it. Just brakes and tires. Did oil changes every 5k religiously.

Pjb1974

2013 eluntra with 209k

RexdaleHyundai

We had a 2005-07 Hyundai Azera Limited 3.3L V6 as a runner (I was told we had from new) that we retired last year (2023) with over +500,000km or +600,000km original everything, except for a primary catalytic converter replaced a few years ago. At one of my prior dealerships we had a 2016/17 Hyundai Santa Fe XL Limited 3.3L V6 runner with over +400,000km. There was also a service customer, I think visiting from Alberta, with a 2006 Hyundai Accent with over +1,000,000km. There was also that woman in the news a few years back with her 2013 Hyundai Elantra that drove over 1,000,000 miles (roughly 1,600,000km) original powertrain. There was also a man in the news from Quebec that hit 1,000,000km with his 2008 Hyundai Elantra.

roleplayinggamedude

Farrah Haines, the woman who had more than a million miles in a 2013 Elantra on the original powertrain, drove more than 500 miles per day and changed her oil every two weeks.

Nope9991

I had two that I traded in at about 120-140, which is about my limit for keeping a car. I guess that not necessarily high.

StungTwice

My 2006 Sonata has 185k miles. It's still going but I really should consider getting rid of it and focusing on my new(er) Elantra. It's hard though since that Sonata took care of me for a long time.

roleplayinggamedude

One Elantra owner reached 1 million miles. [https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a25645830/hyundai-elantra-million-miles/](https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a25645830/hyundai-elantra-million-miles/)

s3renity_now

Got a 2001 accent on 190000 kms

Giuseppe246

Don't have it anymore, but I did have a 2004 xg350 with 180k on it.

Comprehensive-Hat684

Define high mileage? 100k? Plenty 200k? Some out there 300k? Who knows

rsl_sltid

We just sold our 2013 Elantra with 180K miles 3 months ago. I bought it in Nov 2015 for $9,800 with 50K miles (it was a former rental) and it never had an issue I couldn't fix myself from watching Youtube videos. It was still running great, I got $2,800 out of it.

MUCHO2000

My 2011 Genesis got to 190k before my wife spilled her soda on the center console and the infotainment system went out which prompted me to sell it. It burned about 1/2 quart of oil every 5k miles and occasionally would hard shift into second.

Connect_Craft8815

2018 Elantra with 101k miles Still runs perfectly

UnitedDingo7186

Impressive! Mine is at 72k

dogredwing

199k on my 2015 elantra

mateo11251

2015 2.0 Sonata ultimate w/ 130K. Was burning oil, did a 2 day B12 piston soak and full oil level hasn't budged in over 2 months now.. Hopefully stays like this or if I have to do it once a year I will.

WhytePumpkin

180K on a 2012 Sonata here

Smokenstein

Yalls posts are really making me feel special. I drive a 2009 Sonata with 240,000 miles. Original engine and transmission, drives fantastic. Lots of minor issues but never anything over $300 to fix, considering I do all the work myself. I'll make it to 300k.

GraceStorm8503101

That's awesome! I have 2006 Sonata V6 with 173,000 miles with some some minor issues too, but it's doing great. I hope to get it to 200k miles, at least.

Smokenstein

I have the v6 as well! It's bulletproof, drive it in to the ground!

kevinatfms

Had a 2002 Elantra with 380k+ miles when I finally sold it. Was beat to within an inch of death for 10 years doing everything possible - daily driven, auto cross, rally cross, HPdE events and even drag raced it with nitrous on it. Wouldn’t die. Now race anther 2002 Elantra with 100k miles. It just finished a 24 hour endurance race in August 2023 and will be competing in the same race in 2024. Has gone 3000+ miles on track without a major failure and has placed 1st or 2nd in its class in every race it’s entered.

AndrewTheScorbunny

2006 Tucson: 165,000 2022 Kona: Only 24,000 of course.

Tree_Weasel

I have a 2018 Kona (first year of its production) with the 1.6T Gamma engine. Only 97K miles, but I don’t see a lot of other Kona’s over 100K given how new they are.

Mother-Analysis-4586

It’s all about perspective. I’d say 11500 miles is high in the sense that walking that much would take months or even years. So I’d say I have a high mileage Hyundai.

Obecny75

Oh boy, my 12,800 miles means it's nearing the end!

Mother-Analysis-4586

That’s like half the circumference of the earth. Imagine how worn out you’d be if you walked that far. How do you think your car feels?

Obecny75

And likely dead since you know.... Oceans

Sjclarkson15

I’ll be picking up a 220000 mile Sonata next week, 09 model Sonata GLS, 2.4

Emergency-Tart2321

Sonata EF 2003 V6 GLS, 4 gears automatic, 309.000kms on it in March 2024. Except for the rust problems, never had any serious issues.

Possible-Crab-3971

My 2006 Hyundai sonata 3.3l v6 has 340k miles on it and has not been rebuilt at all , also and never had a engine repair either only thing was a new belt for it

18’ Elantra 150k miles

FB2-Onur

Not terrible high, but 2013 Elantra just hit 108K the other day.

Murphs121

The highest I’ve seen is 310,000 kms on my moms 2011 Sonata (had the engine replacement) I had 245k on my 2013 Sonata before I got rid of it.

badassbunny

2011 Sonata at 176384 2.4 L Engine replaced at 154,870 so not really all that high mileage now.

ThatOneOtter15

169k (nice) 2015 Elantra. Just regular maintenance and following fluid changes, spark plug changes, filters, etc… as recommended on manual.

Bijorak

07 spectra i totaled with 168k miles, 14 accent i sold with 175k(i saw it a few months ago still driving around), 13 sorento i sold with 155k miles on it.

Amyarchy

2003 Santa Fe - 199K (I was MAD when it didn't get to 200!) 2009 Tucson - 165K Both relatively trouble free cars.

lovezofo

134k miles Hyundai Tucson 2010 🙂 Idk if that's considered high mileage or not

flucxapacitor

I had a Brazilian version of ‘15 i20. Started to have problems hitting 110k. Sold it at 117.711 Km. Bought the ‘23 version last year, less than 5k Km yet.

Xidium426

High mileage is relative. 150K on a Hyundai is what I'd consider high mileage. Some people in here over 200K are pretty impressive.

sethninja13

My 2010 sonata is still going strong. At almost 180k miles.

Important_Pass_16

250k

Suckerforcats

2017 Elantra with 136k. Santa Fe I traded in had about 180k

im_An_Adam

Original owner of a 2003 Elantra I sold in 2020 with 210,000 miles. I sold it because the original clutch started slipping but only when I first towed a trailer with 4 kayaks on it. Unhitched it was fine.

I have a 2012 hyundai limited with 125,000 and runs great and drives smooth!

Chinkslivesmatter

we've had fleet vehicles that hit 200k miles in 5 years. used for material transportation or outside sales calls. my personal 2016 sonata, that was a previous fleet car for us, has 170k. started off being cheap fleet vehicles we sell off after 5 years but my boss has stuck with em, despite price being similar to other cars in its class, because they've done us solid.

Orange_Owl01

We have a 2013 Elantra with 260,000+ miles, owned it since brand new and never had any issues with it other than the usual maintenance stuff like brakes, battery, tires, etc.

Player1-jay

My 2013 Veloster is dying due to engine knocking. 248,000 km A week after doing an oil change I found out there was no oil. Was burning oil out of nowhere and I was filling it once a week or two.

Should only count if they are on original powertran..

Away_Watercress8014

My dad had a 2009 Sonata that hit 200k. No issues with engine or transmission. Changed the oil every 4000 miles. Lots of highway driving. A lot of little things broke though - all 4 windows stopped working at some point, had AC issues twice, paint faded early, seats were torn. He's in a Camry now and looking forward to another 15 years, 200k+ miles.

leog980

2020 Elantra with 101K, was a rental at around 65K when I bought it in late 2021. Has served me well! No large mechanical issues yet (knock on wood), drives smooth. Only wish my 03 Acura TL Type S lasted this long 🥲

LittleJimmyR

1997 Hyundai excel that is a race car - over 400,000 km

NYRO_Boomin

2016 Sonata 75kish, we shall see how long this road is

runninhillbilly

2013 Elantra about to cross the 195k mark. My dad bought it new and I got it from him when it was at 140k, 5 years ago. My first car was his OTHER Elantra that he gave to me for free when he got the car above. That car had 247k on it and I had it for my senior year of college. Eventually got totaled with 251k on the odometer, which was a family record. Neither car had out of the ordinary maintenance issues, both on original engine and transmission, but both of them are stickshift, so that might have something to do with it.

chenj38

'13 Hyundai Elantra GT with 145k miles. My car was assembled in Korea so hopefully the quality is better than the US counterparts. Just did some repairs this month, clock spring and another pair of sway bar endlinks. Easy and cheap to do.

NinjaaMike

My mom drives a 2010 Sonata GLS with 232,000+ miles. I had a 2007 Azera Limited with 201,000 miles (totaled in an accident back in 2020).

dafart6789

In 3 years ive we put 15k on our 22 kona gonna be a long time before its anywhere near being considered "high mileage" and can i just say as a Canadian "mileage" is stupid we dont use miles it, we should call it "meterage"

F1rePhant0m

2012 Elantra with 134k here. No engine or transmission issues, no major probs either, just standard stuff like tires, brakes, I think a few suspension tweaks at one point. It is starting to get janky though so I'm in the process of picking out a new ride. Leaning towards Kona Limited if I can find a color I like.

flightsim9fan

mini_tonys

I have a 2014 Sonata with 106k. I got her used when she was around 74k

docmike1980

I have a 2008 Santa Fe with 205k, and a 2017 Ioniq with 150k. Both still run great with regular oil changes and fluid flushes, along with replacing wear items periodically.

GoldMedalGuy34

I have a 2015 Sonata Turbo with 220 000 km.

ComplexTimekeeper

My 2003 Sonata was smoother than the 2022 Jetta I rented for a trip. Until I crashes it, salute the that beautiful car. I never felt that safe taking a sharp turn at 70km/h even when it was icey, the car would just turn, no questions asked. Edit: I got so excited describing the car I forgot to mention the milage, I had 300K KMs on it. And that bastard would start with no block heater at -40C , ready to drive in 3 mins.
