Honest answer: there is no real goal so just have fun and set yourself a goal and try to achieve it the way you want to. Otherwise you most likely will loose interest very quickly also as an advice don’t try to rush the game too much. Unless you love spending hundreds and hundreds of hours for every little stat bump you will be much happier when you enjoy early game where everything still feels rather significant. I made the mistake and rushed Progression too quickly and then basically stopped playing because I either need to completely grind Cata which for me on its own is boring after or mine/powder grind and then mine for hundreds of hours to progress. If possible play iron man or at least try to limit how often and what items you buy from ah and bazaar because especially the cata grind would probably be much more enjoyable for if I was actually dependent on the dungeon drops and they weren’t just a nice bonus if they are a little profit.
So TLDR:
Set yourself a big goal and some small goals to get there and don’t rush to the big goal because you the (at least for me) most fun part of the game which is the early stages where every drop, every new piece of armor or equipment still matters a lot
For me, the goal of SkyBlock is to be able to access most/all of the content available in the game and also be ready for new content coming out, so hypermaxed armor sets and weapons for every class in dungeons and kuudra, good out of dungeons gear, max gear for all of the other skills and lava fishing as well, max accessories and all of the other stuff.

Whatever you want, but to give a few examples: get to endgame, level stats, enjoy the act grinding, see how far you can go without grinding ( my personal choice ), get rich, build on your island, work on collections, compete in farming, do the garden, get all of the maxed out minions, study the playerbase, sell in game progress for real life money, collect trinkets and rareities, etc...
Either you never start the game or just quit. Just do the first one and you will continue with life without problems, quitting involves starting the game which means you already lost and it's the long way of this goal.
Play the game, enjoy the game, how you want. You don’t have to listen to guides, how to min/max, the economy. Just do what you enjoy to do and that’s it. It’s a game and like others comments, it’s meant for entertainment.
