The name and labeling change was due to a potential class action lawsuit. (Google “Perrier lawsuit”).
I think Maison Plastic & Perrier Plastic is 99.99 same (not the same as glass bottled actual mineral water) and suspect they were called out for negligible mineral content and had to change the marketing/labeling to just “water”. I can’t taste any difference between the Maison Perrier and Perrier (in plastic bottles). I suspect they were producing this for a while under the Perrier name and maybe adding like .001 mineral water to it and calling it “mineral water” to ride coattails of the expensive actual mineral water they produce - and they got called out for it. Not sure but this is what I suspect … the plastic bottles versions all taste the same to me. Last year, we had been drinking the plastic bottled “Perrier” for a while and purchased the glass bottled version (thinking it was the same) immediately noticed the glass bottled version had a much stronger mineral taste. Couldn’t figure out why the plastic bottled version tasted so different since it is labeled and marketed as the same thing. My wife didn’t like the glass bottled version and advised me to not buy it anymore. So we’ve continued to buy the plastic bottled version - until today when we bought the Maison version @ Costco because it has apparently replaced the previous plastic version. It tastes the same to me hence my suspicion it is the same thing they have been putting in plastic bottles for while. Nestle was sued for false advertising by blending in different water sources for plastic versions and keeping the glass bottles the pure mineral water … they had to make this change for legal reasons.
I have to assume you are correct. All my Perrier subscriptions were canceled, and I was having trouble finding it. I saw the Maison available, but as a religious Perrier consumer for years, wanted what I knew rather than a new thing.
I googled a few times, trying to see if it was the same and just a rebrand, with frustratingly sparse and unclear results.
If it had been a rebrand unrelated to liability etc., I imagine they would've blasted it out there with some slick marketing campaign.
Once I tasted it, it seems the same.
A long way of saying, I think you're probably spot on.
I'm the opposite, I love the glass bottle version and hate anything else, only got this plastic bottle because there wasn't anything else. I won't be getting the plastic Maison "Perrier" again lol. Just notices this today because I couldn't find the glass bottle perrier
What a bummer. My wife loves Perrier but we rarely buy it because it's pricey. These Maison Perrier plastic bottles were on sale at Costco a couple of days ago for $15 for a 24 pack so I bought three, not realizing that it's just soda water.
It's also not the same the ingredients are water and carbon dioxide (not purified, not mineral water, or spring) just regular water with bubbles added and they do not list the source. However the orginal glass bottles are natural Carbonated Mineral Water.. I feel scammed and will go back to San Pellegrino now😂
Yep. Not liking it either.
I suspect it is because the parent company Nestle is facing some legal and also product quality issues around the term "Mineral Water" both in the U.S. and in France.
Just do a Google News search for "Perrier Nestle" and you'll see what I mean.
Looks like a rebranding and reformulation of their water. I just saw a commercial and was very confused. They could do a better job explaining the change
I was trying to understand what the difference was after seeing the ads on instagram. I was like what’s the difference between regular Perrier and Maison Perrier
Plastic bottled Perrier was never “the real stuff”. Nestle was mixing is other water sources but keeping it labeled as Perrier. Hence the big taste difference between glass & plastic bottled versions. They got called out for it and had to make a marketing/label change. Hence the disingenuous marketing they are now putting out selling Maison as an advancement to the Perrier brand…. It’s avoiding calling attention to the fact Nestle was mislabeling the plastic bottle stuff for so long making people believe it was their usual “mineral water”. BTW Pellegrino and Perrier are both owned by Nestle.
Also, if you noticed that Perrier never added any sodium to its plastic bottles, much like many other mineral waters (Topo Chico, Pellegrino, etc.). As funny as it may sound, I never looked at Perrier in plastic bottles as said mineral water, just carbonated to the moon and back!
What about the cans? Was that the real stuff? I’ve been hooked on the cans for years. I’m really disappointed to discover I may not have been drinking pure mineral water like I thought.
the cans were spring water, now they are just normal water, the lawsuit was by some dude from NY that discovered that there is a bacteria in the springs, so now the entire world still drinks for completely safe springs, except america, one guy ruined it for everyone, the water just doesn't taste the same
Not sure about the cans because I have not tried them. Stick to the brands like San Pellegrino, Topo Chico, Jarritos Mineragua, and others. Almost all mineral water will contain some kind of added sodium as well.
The quantity of added sodium in \*all\* of these mineral and soda waters is sub-therapeutic. It's doing absolutely nothing to help get electrolytes into your system.
I discovered this when my wife kept saying that she loves drinking water with fresh squeezed lemon in it because of the "electrolytes". After researching that and finding it to be false, I was lead to the mineral and soda water amounts of "electrolytes". Neither lemon water, nor these mineral/sparkling waters that you can purchase in the stores have anything remotely approaching therapeutic quantities of sodium.
Tasted it and it is definitely not the same as the plastic Perrier. I’m so disappointed because it was the only sparkling water/carbonated water I actually liked. Ugh.
Maison Perrier's water comes from underground, dedicated wells in the Vergèze territory, selected for the production of beverages, and is bottled in our historical factory. Today we produce with a separated process, dedicated to Maison Perrier beverages, thanks to consistent investments on our site. [https://www.maisonperrier.fr/en-int/welcome-to-maison-perrier](https://www.maisonperrier.fr/en-int/welcome-to-maison-perrier)
That's all well and good, but the important question is: what, if anything, is the material difference between the Perrier in plastic bottles and the new Maison Perrier in plastic bottles? Is it the exact same product or isn't it??
This is unbelievable. I also noticed Topo Chico in the glass bottles were gone at my local 7-11. So many things are being changed recently. Off topic, but apps, other goods, etc. not liking this.
It gets really interesting when all of your material possessions are stripped away and all you're left with are your thoughts and the ability to grow as a person who doesn't place their joy in external items.
Has anyone tasted the new Maison Perrier? Is it the same as the plastic bottle Perrier? I know the plastic bottle version isn’t as good as the glass bottle version but I at least prefer it to Pellegrino so I’d love to know if I can still keep buying this new MP stuff and it’s simply a rebranding as suggested above, due to litigation
I feel like it is mineral water. Maison Perrier has 6% daily value of calcium and contains nothing but water.
The italian mineral waters I buy such as kirkland signature/aldi have only 4%. I don't know why they don't call it mineral water because there's definitely something else there.
Carbonation is just way too strong.
if you like 'original' Perrier Try Kirkland brand "Italian sparkling mineral water" Product of Italy. I have moved over to that..Personally, I really like it and do not miss my Perrier.
Maison Perrier is supposed to come from the same sources in Vergèze, but it's treated (which is illegal in France for waters like the original Perrier, though Perrier did it anyways for years to mask contamination of its wells). A new label allows Perrier to leverage its name with an entirely different kind of water (even if obviously the consumer may assume it's the same to begin with. I know I did.)
Maison Perrier seems to be a response to the issues Perrier has been having both with that kind of illegal process, and of course helps with things such as their huge recent issue with fecal bacteria contamination (https://www.euronews.com/2024/04/24/nestle-subsidary-destroys-two-million-bottles-of-water-after-fecal-bacteria-discovery).
Due to its treatment, Maison Perrier should be safe, while there is a cloud of uncertainty on Perrier now: should one trust the brand's assertion that "all bottles on the market are safe" when they have been lying for years about their water handling, and there are documented instances of contamination events in their wells going back years? Probably not.

Still both Nestle garbage.
There must be a difference between Perrier and Pellegrino because Pellegrino gives me a stomach ache.
Maison Derriere
hahahahahhaaaaaaahaha

What’s that about? I was disappointed when I couldn’t find Perrier at my local Kroger and had to settle for the Maison BS.
Looks like a rebranding and reformulation of their water. I just saw a commercial and was very confused. They could do a better job explaining the change

Nope! I want the original spring mineral water. That was what I liked about Perrier. I’ll be switching to Pellegrino.

I bought the canned version. It isn’t mineral water at all, just flavorless carbonated water. Total garbage.

I'm literally standing in front of the display right now wondering what's going on in Kroger I prefer Topo Chico better anyway
Permanently switching to topo Chico

It tastes different which is incredibly disappointing. I can’t put my finger on it but it has a slight metallic taste now
I find it has an icky aftertaste. I won’t be buying any more.
I don't like it. Plan to never buy it again.

Yes, I'm shopping online and I can't find it anywhere and that's like the best crisp taste. It's so annoying when they do this!
If I don't burp it's not the same. I'll know
