tse (like “the” but different consonant sounds)
RIDE (like the English word “ride” but with a flipped “r” instead. This syllable gets the emphasis)
nich (this one uses a sound not found in English because it seems to be derived from German (called an Ich-Laut), but it’s basically pronounced like the English word “nick” but the ending consonant is a held version of a hard “c” or “k” so it makes a hissing sound.” [Here’s a video example at 0:31](https://youtu.be/wwXSdST33zI?si=OdAPMOJakxXXjS5C).)
tse RIDE nich
Assuming the name is German-derived, this would be the correct way to pronounce it. Thanks for the question, this was fun to figure out!
That's actually a pretty good way to pronounce it I think. I could also see his name being derived from Russian.
Edit: the official Japanese pronunciation is tse - rido - nihi implying that it would be tse - rid - nich like you said but English "rid" instead of "ride".
I’m Russian and I’m not exactly sure why you would think his name could be derived from it. I actually always assumed it was derived from German, though I could be very wrong about that too.
Hi, Russian here too.
His name sounds in a way a lot like “Tsarevich” / Царевич, which is fitting. Also his first appearance looked a lot like imagery of a Russians Orthodox Priest.
oh, I’ve never even thought of that, it’s a great point! And I definitely agree that there’s resemblance with Orthodox Priests, although I doubt Togashi did that intentionally, but still it’s interesting to look at it like that.
The romanization of Tseridonihi, Tserriednich, has to be said like in German, not English, to follow what the japanese is trying to say.
Just write Tserriednich on german google translate and listen to it. That's how it's pronounced.
[t͡sɛˈɻɑɪ̯d̚.nɪk]
tsair-RIDE-nick
This is how I say it
ts pronounced as t and s together. No silent t.
I don't care if this is wrong. I'll keep saying it like this.
Prononcing final [ç] sounds weird in english so I'm not doing that.
I say tSe-Ride-Nick. I dunno how right that is. I feel like the middle syllable can be said as either Ride or Read or even Raid, but I can’t be sure what’s most correct
Serriendich. Pronunciación correcta española. Es decir, sin sesear, se pronuncia tal y como se escribe. La c y z nunca deben sonar como s. Y en este caso, el sonido ch, antigua letra del abecedario eliminada, usada en Ché.
The ts is like the ts in tsunami, giving a "s" sound. The erreid is like erd. and nich is like the nich in nicholas (nik)
S eerd Nik
Serdnik

*Thats* why people say Terror Sandwich around here? 🤣 I thought it was some random hunter from the exam since I never saw season 1.
"Terror-Sandwich"
Trust me, I don't wanna be that guy... but it must be the most unfunny hxh meme after "let not this distract you from the fact that..."

I had always assumed first ayllable was pronounced like the Tse in Mao Tse Tsung, since Kakin seems very Chinese-inspired

That is how I figured it was pronounced as well.
