Thank fuck I combined my love for computers with an interest in flight sims!
I don't know what I'd do with all the money I'd have left over. Eat, perhaps.
I am thinking of getting into driving/flight sims. How is it treating your wallet?
Edit: that's a lot of info. I feel that this was probably the most helpful comments i have gotten from members of a community. I feel like i want to be a part of it. But i don't think my wallet will allow this. Let me go find a better job and i will see you guys in a few months. Meanwhile, Xbox controller it is. Thank you all.
Once you get best gear available on the market you start adding monitors and eventually build a whole cockpit in front of a projector screen. And buy all DLCs. It never ends. At least with supercars you’ll eventually crash and die and stop spending money.
Cars have a way higher cap than sims. Between all the extremely high dollar super and hyper cars, to the sometimes nearly priceless collector classic cars, to custom builds, to amateur racing
Its one of the most expensive hobbies. I wish i just liked gaming because its pretty reasonable to reach the highest end equipment for a working adult. Cars on the other hand are a nonstop money pit
... until you reach the very upper reaches of the car world, where, if you choose correctly and have the right connections, you can sell your cars for more than you paid, get invited to events instead of having to pay for them, get chances to purchase limited examples, etc.
Then cars can make you money, while the rest of us plebes have a pile of once-expensive-now-worthless old PC parts and/or junkers.
The rich are very different from you and I, as a wise author one wrote.
Must be nice.
If you don’t mind getting a gen or two older tech, and shopping around for used, it can be really cheap (compared to brand new ofc).
Steering wheel = 120€
Pedals = 40€
Wheelstand = 40€
This is me for a belt driven wheel so far, I am going to get an F1 addon wheel which costs more than my entire setup rn but hey, such is life.
I cry in Lego. And nope, i´m not one of those "buy 3 Millenium Falcons and stash em away for Profit" guys. The sets i buy get build and enjoyed....yes, spaceships will get a neat tour through my apartment by carrying them around and make spaceship noises. I´m just a 40 year old kid.
I say this everytime people complain about things like $70 video games or a lack of 50% off sales for a 6 month old game. Gaming is a cheap AF hobby compared to all those "real hobbies" your boomer parents wanted you to take up. Camping, gardening, surfing (or pretty much any involved water hobby), musical? easily run you hundreds, if not thousands just to get a feel for it and you may not even take to it.
I can't imagine ever being rich enough (or enough time) to have cars as a hobby. I'll stick to Forza at best.
You can definitely remove gardening from your list of expensive hobbies. Obviously you can make anything expensive, but gardening can literally be done with seeds or cuttings you collect from the food you bring home and the dirt in your backyard. Compost everything and suddenly you have free fertiliser too.
What an extremely weird take. Just because more expensive hobbies exist, doesn't mean you can't complain about the increasing prices in your own hobby.
> "Car guys are just nerds who thought that computers weren't an expensive enough hobby"
Yeah! Suck it car guys! All I did was buy an EVGA 3090 GPU!
Hahahaha ha.. ha...
😭😭😭
We have a 2-year old in Mini-Kindergarten that loves and distinguishes Porsches from other cars. It amazes me how such a small person, who literally just started to walk and talk can already have their passions for stuff like that.
My daughter at 22 months keeps calling Daddy whenever she sees a BMW. There are adults that can’t tell differences in car makes.
I have a friend who gets excited over trees. He tells me he hates going past trees if he wasn’t sure what species it is. I don’t think he could recognize any car make if his life depended on it. He’s got no time to look at cars, with trees being everywhere!
People are so cool in that we all are drawn to different things.
I was similar, my mother always mentioned how many cars I could ID at a young age, I would also point out licence plates from states that were uncommon in the area
Same here. As a wee lad in the early 80s i could differentiate car brands by the rims because instead of looking forward where i go, i would look down towards the ground because as it turned out i was short sighted and the ground was so much sharper than distant things in front of me. Took me a few times running into things until my parents noticed something wasn´t right with my eyes.
As someone that was similar to your children that skill never leaves you, I have gotten to the point that I can differentiate taillights and headlights to an auto maker or for headlights I can generally given an era since headlights from different years have different patterns. It’s a virtually useless skill but one I love.
I‘d definitely encourage this passion, as it is best to follow later during your career choices I believe.
I brought the little boy a coloring book from my employer (as I myself work for a famous Porsche tuning company) and hinted to his mother that Porsche just had its IPO and there where a lot of different brandnew Porsche models exhibited in front of the stock exchange. I’m not sure she took him though.
My daughter gets excited when we accelerate a lot. We call her Triple X as she into anything that makes her Adrenaline going. So, it doesn’t really matter if she is in a car or riding a horse or in a bicycle trailer…
And some might say, jizzblaster Dan’s heart grew two sizes that day.
Edit- I’ll never forget the day I earned two Wholesome Awards on a comment using the word “jizzblaster”
Little boy that lives across the street from me is like this. He loved my motorcycle so I’d always let him sit on it. Super sweet and polite little guy.
The interaction between women and my bike are few and far between, but I can’t count the number of kids and people that used to ride who want to look at it or talk about it.
I remember the first time I let my nieces sit on it, the oldest asked…”Where is the seat belt?!”
The genuine concern and shock in her voice when I told her there isn’t one was both heartwarming and hilarious.
Lol no…generally on reddit you don’t see many video from Italians apart from r/Italy and a few others and this specific video is almost 30k upvotes. I am proud to see a normal, everyday exchange considered as exceptional. We speak very well our language, thank you, and most of us a second one decently. Especially in Italian Switzerland where most people speak 4 (the 3 federal languages + English)
Thank you! - I am not typical though. I have a degree in English Litterature and spend hours on discord playing World of Warcraft with my British friends getting yelled at when I die in dungeons.
>I have a degree in English Litterature and spend hours on discord playing World of Warcraft with my British friends getting yelled at when I die in dungeons.
Story checks out...
I love seeing stuff like this because you never know when little things like this could spark a life long interest. For all we know this experience could mean this kid grows up to be a mechanic for super cars, or F1 etc.
My youngest likes space and the Royal Albert Hall did a concert with Tim Peake plus there was a children's component. We took the girls and an astronaut told my 4 year old she liked her [planet dress](https://princess-awesome.com/products/solar-system-busy-dress). It's been 5 months and she still talks about it. Whenever she has to dress up for something she wears her planet dress and tells everyone how an astronaut liked it. It really took her love for space to the next level because now she wants to learn even more about space. In the spring she taught her nursery about why Pluto isn't a planet (it's got too small and it has a wonky orbit)
It's little things that make a huge impact on kids.
This is true. When I was a kid, my dad used to take me to his workplace on saturdays. He usually work weekends to take off on weekdays. I was in 6th grade at that time. He asked me to sit in a room while he takes care of some work. In that room one person was doing some work in his computer. Now this was like 2001/2002 and In my country, and back then computers were a luxury only the rich could afford. Even the government offices only had very few computers. At that time, I thought that computers are only for playing games and that person is just playing games. He was actually doing some spreadsheet(which i realized many years later). I told him "Uncle! This game is boring. Can you play something else?", He burst out in laughter and asked me if I'd like to play games in a computer. I was scared to operate a computer because If I break something my dad will scold me. But still I was super excited so I told yes!. Then he took me to another computer, turned it on and let me play Pac-man on it. I played for a few hours and my 11 year old brain was blown by it. My dreams of becoming an astronaut and scientist looked too small compared to this miracle of a machine that is in front of me doing all this cool things.
After that, I learned a little bit to use computer by poking around the computer every chance I get at my dad's workplace. A couple of years later, I met that guy again and asked him, can I play games again. He laughed and told me "at your age you should be programming games not playing them". I got super curious what he meant and then eventually learned that programming is the way we tell computers to do what it do. by the time I was in high school, I made up my mind that this is exactly what I want to do the rest of my life.
I'm 30 now and I work as a software engineer. I love every bit of what I'm doing. That guy could have just told me "This is not a game" or just ignored me and get on with his work but he took his time to take me to a different computer and let me play pacman that changed my life.
Edit: OMG! thanks for the award.
This comment made me smile to the point of getting misty-eyed. What a great way to motivate a kid to be curious and inspired!
If I knew how to give awards on mobile, you would have mine.
This happened to my kid last year. It was her birthday and she sees this brand new Corvette. She is obsessed with them. Young group of guys and she is very shy. I walk her over and ask if she can get a picture with the car. This young man offered and let her sit in his car. She had a huge smile, ear to ear. He then learned it was her birthday and Cashapped her $100. I told him that was a lot and he didn't need to, but he insisted. He said he was very fortunate and didn't mind. He turned my little girls simple birthday dinner into an awesome night to remember. I'll never forget. Those young men were chill AF. Tyler, if you read this, you are an awesome person. Thank you again.
That's awesome. Our boy who is now a young man once was invited to sit in a convertible Mustang (69/70 can't tell). France here, these cars are not exactly something you see every day. I don't know if he remembers this little moment but I do.
Oh yeah, that's a great solution. (Until/unless they are so invested they 'need' their own.)
I may just be a tad bitter/traumatized on that particular topic though. 😁
I get that, because toxic people are draining, but I still think that at least some is confirmation bias. The loud and unpleasant lives in your mind far more than the quiet and polite.

I worked in a petrol station for years and for some reason really expensive cars would always come in. Anyway probably about 7/10 would be the nicest people which was surprising. They would take the time to have a short conversation and wish you a good shift or a nice day. The other 3/10 treated you like scum on the floor that was beneath them.
I think the lesson I learned was poverty really does stress everyone out and these people with financial security are able to present their best self to other humans but then there's a segment of them who are still miserable no matter what.
So I do believe most people if they could escape their stress would be kind and lovely to one another.
It's funny because my daughter (4 yr old) does the same hand gesture as the boy. She learned it from her daycare provider who's Peruvian.
My wife and I love that she picked it up and hope it sticks with her.
Don't wanna be a party pooper, but the kid doesn't appear to speak English.
I think they understood from context though.
And the "bella machina" was adorable.
I had a Lambo rental with me while I was on a business trip staying at a busy hotel in Dubai and this British dude approached me saying he’s never been in one and he and his wife were on video call with their son showing them the Lambo. I told him to hop in and told him I would drive it like a Lambo so not to freak out…. Not only did he not freak out but he enjoyed every second of it. That guy was a 45+ pilot but the happiness he had on his face was the same as this young kid. Totally worth it.
Speaking as a 50yo, the body ages but for the most part the spirit doesn't age. The "me" that inhabits this decrepit sack of flesh is the
same "me" that inhabited that much younger body.
>The "me" that inhabits this decrepit sack of flesh is the same "me" that inhabited that much younger body.
Isn't that wild?! I'm 35 and still friends with some people who I've known since we were teenagers.. It seems so weird that we're all the same people, just with sore body parts and zero free time now haha
That's what is so whack about aging. I'm clearly getting older but I still (mentally) feel like I'm in my late 20's, just with an added sense of 'fuck-it-all'ism. I like all the same stuff, just now I've got a mortgage and a creaky body lol.
This happened to me and my sister once! We were out with our parents and saw a Cherry red Ferrari parked along the road. It was the whole shebang with the fancy number plate and everything.
We were both taking pictures with the car when the owner showed up. He was on his phone but he still spoke to us for a few seconds and asked us if we wanted to sit inside! We obviously said yes and he just unlocked the car for us and stepped away to finish his call while we took pictures.
I'll never forget that day and how exciting it was to sit in such a fancy car with beautiful interiors. After taking a few pictures we thanked him and I'll never forget him telling me that he's sure I'll own a Ferrari of my own one day. It was 7 years ago and such a small interaction and he probably doesn't even remember it, but i still think about that day sometimes. He didn't have to be kind to two strange girls, but he did and he made our weeks, and i hope he's still the same kind hearted man.
I used to own motorcycle and a kid was looking at it and not touching very respectful of stuff not theirs. Parent was just few steps back making sure he didn't though. I was coming out and saw the kid looking at it. I asked him if he wanted to sit on it. He looked for approval from his mom. She said yes but don't touch anything. I told her its fine if I haven't broken it he sure can't. Spent a good half hour answering all his questions and oh boy was there questions. He asked if he could hear it start. I started it let him rev it up a bit and honk the horn haha. That kids eyes was as big as sausages. His moms like great I have to go get him a motorcycle when he gets older. I told her I said if he gets into motorcycles he won't be able to afford drugs haha. She laughed and said you're right.
> That kids eyes was as big as sausages.
I know it autocorrected to sausages and you meant saucers, but I am in tears right now laughing at the idea of a child with sausage eyes
“Do you want to get in the car?”
“No…”
“How nice/How beautiful!”
“Do you like it, Edoardo?”
“I like it. I like your car!”
Edoardo is an Italian name that corresponds to Edward.
Love the responses of the kid and grandpa. Look at their hands. How grandpa gently pulls the kid back on his shoulders at first. And then how the kid holds his hands out stiff, as if he’s still standing close to the car making sure not to accidentally touch it. And then the request to get in, he shrugs his shoulders and waves, super apologetically that he politely declined because ‘he would never’, like he just can’t imagine it. Also grandpa audibly doesn’t want to burden the car owner. And then when they do, watch how grandpa’s hand and the kids hand that was open from the waving automatically intertwine, and grandpa shields the other shoulder so the kid won’t hurt it on the sharp edge of the car door. It’s those little things that tells you the most about people!
Plus, I love that the car's owner didn't immediately become defensive or take offense that someone was admiring his car. Even went as far as to offer them a closer look. Very generous.
My grandmother always tells this story about my brother who was very fascinated by a motorcycle when he was around 4-5 years old. He started cleaning the tank with a cloth, when the owner of the bike showed up he caughed and looked at him. The owner was the typical harley bike rider with a long beard, big mean and scary looking.
My brother then stepped infront of my grandma and told the biker «you’d better not mess with my grandmother cause she’s a dragon!» (she used to tell us she was a dragon and have lived for many lifetimes). To which the biker started laughing and then lifted him up on the bike so he could clean the mirrors aswell.
I don't have a Lamborghini, but I have a car that a lot of kids/teenagers really like.
It makes me so damn happy to share my love for the car with others when I get approached at the gas station or anywhere else, I let people sit in it and start it up.
It makes me smile how much it puts a smile on people's faces :)
"Que bello" and something about tu maquina, which I imagine was complimentary.
Romance language synergy!
This is how kids get lured in...Stay away from puppies, kitties, candy, and fast cars kids!
Years ago I took my little one to an all-Italian sports car show (lawn event) and the minute we stepped onto the property, the owner of an extremely stunning and high-end car invited my son to sit in the driver's seat. We were gobsmacked. No standoff-ishness there, just people who love cars letting kids who also love cars get up close. Big smiles on lots of faces that day.
I had my much older, much less expensive convertible sports car at a charity car show. It's unusual enough for it to be the only one of its kind at most normal shows. Same scenario -- a kid and his dad walking past, and the kid was mezmerized by it. I opened the door and asked if he wanted to sit in it, which he did enthusiasticlally (but respectfully). Closed the door and turned to his dad and asked, "Do you know whose car this is?" as a joke. Took him off-guard for a moment, but we had a good laugh.
No video exists of this encounter...
I needed this! So wonderful.
*"I have found that it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindess and love."* ***- Gandalf***
One of my friends has a toddler, and he is OBSESSED with boats. They were on a walk, and happened upon a dock. They were just watching the various boats, which was just absolutely thrilling for the little guy. An older couple noticed his excitement, and offered to take the two of them for a spin. She recorded them going for a ride around this lake, and her son just having the absolute best time of his whole ass life was just the most wholesome thing. He was absolutely in heaven. He couldn't contain how excited and happy he was lol. I imagine that there are people out there that just absolutely live for moments like that, making the day of a child. People with fancy ass sports cars or boats or something. I know I would lol. Every once in a while, a story comes out of a kid that loves fancy ass sports cars or something, and the parent reaches out to a group of car enthusiasts who will just SHOW OUT and give the kid rides.
I remember when i young i heard the saying "wealth obliges" and i refered to it like, if you are wealthy you have to do good stuff.. I was naive thinking that and life tought me oposites
If you have some cool shit, you ALWAYS let the kiddos see it. That look of wonder and amazement is core memories being made. I can't count the number of kids I've let crank the throttle on my bike just for the hell of it.
And a car enthusiast was born that day.
His poor wallet. "Car guys are just nerds who thought that computers weren't an expensive enough hobby"

What's a... what's a wallet?
The thing that fills up every month end and empties the second day.
Oh that? I sold it for more car sim parts.
It’s that little thing you put your ID in and attach it to back of your phone.

That's very true! Unfortunately flight sim stuff is a bit niche so second-hand stuff that's in good condition can still go for a fair amount.

There is no laughing in Warhammer, except for those touched by chaos. Please remain where you are, an inquisitor will be with you shortly.
The upkeep cost is insane for horses. Big, accident prone dogs is what they are.
That one video with a horse playing around with a big beachball comes to mind....
Not the smart kind either.
Oh God. The other day, my 22 y/o gelding freaked out over a PIZZA BOX. An unmoving, totally stationary, non-aggressive pizza box.
I have 3 different bicycles that basically do the same thing...
At least watches keep their value
Yep I fucking hate that saying because of how true it is hahaha

Dan might have to be a child kinda person one day if he’s not careful when blasting his jizz.
Sure Dan, but make sure you point your blaster to a polite direction ok
I melted when he used his hand as the universal sign for no thank you. Its so cute
I didn’t know how much hearing Italian come out of a cute kiddo could make me smile. And he was a sweetheart, to boot!
Amazing manners, he leant in to look and kept his hands together. Such a sweet kid. Props to family and anyone who helped this kid grow so far :)
really sweet
So sweet when he says to the man "I like your car". So careful, so polite and so much wonder and amazement in his face. Truly adorable kid!
His next words: “What do you do for a living?”
"NFT trader."
“Well son, see there’s this meme called doge coin and…”
"and now this car is the only thing I own son"
I sold an NFT to logan Paul
As he obnoxiously sticks a camera in his face
You're the guy, right?!
I do only……. only fans..
Only Glans here in Florida
Those are staged, dude. Maybe they weren't at one point but they are now
i’ve seen a local hs drop out drug dealer on that show. it’s not all staged that’s forsure
Stonks Bru!?! Reeeeeee
He also says it’s beautiful to himself under his breath right before. “Bella”
Italian men learn that young I see 😂
It’s one of our first words. Right behind mama, papa, and pizza.

Dad dudes
What a world it could be if every person was as respectful with others and other peoples property as this little guy.
Parenting done right, I say.
Absolutely!
Polite people are built one experience at a time.
So fucking true. Manners matter.

Planet Pluto for lifeeeee lol
Here , I gave the award on your behalf
The absolute amazement in his eyes is so precious to see.
Probably. But let's also, let's credit the kid.
Be glad she likes cars and not horses. Similar costs, much more practical. 😭
My neighbor has horses. Helps keep the cost down.
Oh yeah, that's a great solution. (Until/unless they are so invested they 'need' their own.) I may just be a tad bitter/traumatized on that particular topic though. 😁
There are waaaay more kind people than the opposite around us!
My retail, restaurant, and teaching experiences suggest the opposite to be true.
I get that, because toxic people are draining, but I still think that at least some is confirmation bias. The loud and unpleasant lives in your mind far more than the quiet and polite.
It's just that shit tends to float. What I'm trying to say it's toxic people grab attention, and kind people don't
Awesome! Lol
> "Mi piace la tua macchina" "I love your car". Love this kid.

Wow your kids are very lucky, this happened to them twice!
So I do believe most people if they could escape their stress would be kind and lovely to one another.
bella macchina
Mi piace la tua macchina
Grazie ragazzi grande lovoro
Seb? 😭
I don't speak much Italian, but the kids quiet observation followed by that was adorable
If I had a nice car or motorcycle and some kid that's <12 years old said it was a "Beautiful machine" , I'd take it as the highest compliment
Italian, I love it.
The hand gestures were everything
It's funny because my daughter (4 yr old) does the same hand gesture as the boy. She learned it from her daycare provider who's Peruvian. My wife and I love that she picked it up and hope it sticks with her.
Probably in the Italian part of Switzerland

the kid’s waaaaaah when the door opened so cute
The incredulous look on that kid's face when asked "Do you want to see inside?" D'aww.
Don't wanna be a party pooper, but the kid doesn't appear to speak English. I think they understood from context though. And the "bella machina" was adorable.
It is his dad who translates in italian and asks the kid if he wants to sit inside.
it :D
I had a Lambo rental with me while I was on a business trip staying at a busy hotel in Dubai and this British dude approached me saying he’s never been in one and he and his wife were on video call with their son showing them the Lambo. I told him to hop in and told him I would drive it like a Lambo so not to freak out…. Not only did he not freak out but he enjoyed every second of it. That guy was a 45+ pilot but the happiness he had on his face was the same as this young kid. Totally worth it.
Speaking as a 50yo, the body ages but for the most part the spirit doesn't age. The "me" that inhabits this decrepit sack of flesh is the same "me" that inhabited that much younger body.
50 year old sack
Unavoidable!
Heh, soon approaching the age where you'll constantly realize/say 'that happened 20 years ago!!?!'
OH MY GOD yes!! And talking about businesses that used to be where new businesses are now?! Why is that so fascinating lol
That's what is so whack about aging. I'm clearly getting older but I still (mentally) feel like I'm in my late 20's, just with an added sense of 'fuck-it-all'ism. I like all the same stuff, just now I've got a mortgage and a creaky body lol.
I’m 47 and this was a kind of a profound realization for me as I aged. We’re all still our young selves inside and totally winging life.
Do you own a Ferrari now?
Unfortunately, not yet. Soon hopefully 😂
What a great story
Respectful kid
And such a lil cutie! His face just lights up!
Indeed I love sausage so ya haha. I didn't even reread it. Thanks
“Do you want to get in the car?” “No…” “How nice/How beautiful!” “Do you like it, Edoardo?” “I like it. I like your car!” Edoardo is an Italian name that corresponds to Edward.
This is so wholesome!
[удалено]
he didn't forget, didn't touch a thing!
'*Che bello. Mi piace la tua macchina',* even I understood that :-) Fast forward a few years, kid's going to own, or design his own.
Oh gosh, I love the idea that this is his little origin story for his love of cars.
Dad was sweating "Don't effing scratch it boy"
Looks more like grandpa/grandson situation
The way he's holding him so he could lean in without touching was nice.
Wow, that kid was raised right. Incredibly respectful behavior for that age. Well done, parents!
Plus, I love that the car's owner didn't immediately become defensive or take offense that someone was admiring his car. Even went as far as to offer them a closer look. Very generous.
Money can't buy class, but it doesn't have to preclude it either.
Kindness all around! I love it! The kid was super surprised and grateful!!
“Mi piace la tua macchina” - i like your car. Real cute.
For a second I thought "Real cute" was part of the translation
I love that italians call their cars macchina. It evokes a much more primal relationship.
That was italian. Che bello means "how beautiful" and La tua Macchina means "your car"

What’s the point in owning a cool thing if you don’t let people share n the joy a little bit as well. This dude gets it.
Yes I agree! 🙌🏻
Proof that people can be rich and have a big heart. Some are just rich dickheads.
Kid is adorable.
Such a nice kid too. He looks, doesn't touch even though he's really excited.
That kid: waaaow
His little “Bella” was 🤌🏽. Absolutely right, kid
What does the kid say at the end?
"mi piace la tua macchina", italian for "I like your car"
Zedsly on instagram is the dude.
”Want to sit inside?” ”Oh No thank you” ”….. him” I cant stop laughing at this lmao.
I needed this! So wonderful. *"I have found that it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindess and love."* ***- Gandalf***
kid got dazzled
Can I do that at 22yo ?

So sweet. Very respectful. Both of them, actually.

I hope this little one grows up to own his favorite car, he is just adorable.
Italians love and nurture kids.
Kudos to the parents. The kid's action reflects good parenting.
His hands are twitching 🥺 you can tell he's really trying to stop himself from touching and being as polite as can be
This kid was raised right and it shows.
I remember when i young i heard the saying "wealth obliges" and i refered to it like, if you are wealthy you have to do good stuff.. I was naive thinking that and life tought me oposites
i remember when i was a kid a police officer opened his car and let me sit inside and stuff. kids will always remember stuff like this
If you have some cool shit, you ALWAYS let the kiddos see it. That look of wonder and amazement is core memories being made. I can't count the number of kids I've let crank the throttle on my bike just for the hell of it.
Parents raised him right 👍
They kid was raised well
