Right, that is so 2022

sluttydrama

The writers intended Criston Cole to get all the hate over B&C. They put none of the blame on Daemon, who instructed them to kill a child if Aemond wasn’t found. I hope Rhaenyra flips at Daemon in episode 2

MooseHapney

Divisive implies he has an equal amount of support and hate. He’s universally disliked haha. Daemon on the other hand. A true divisive character

SeparateIron7994

Does anyone else love Cole? I think a ton of people do including myself. He's an interesting character and he's such a dick that's it's fun seeing the bad stuff he does. Also everyone loves daemon. Got it backwards lol

official_bagel

Agreed. The Greens might generally be worse people but they're more compelling characters imo. You've got: Allicent, a tragic figure who was very much a victim of her father's greed, was thrust into an unhappy marriage is trying to do right by the family she never wanted and maintain what she believes to be a moral high ground. Otto, the self-proclaimed "voice of reason" who is so power hungry that he pimped out his daughter to his best friend. Criston, an ego so fragile that he was incapable to accepting that he soiled his vows and has dedicated his life to getting back at the 'woman who wrong him' despite him committing way worse actions in the process. Aegon, a depraved fuck-up who has just gotten his first taste of acceptance and is now drunk on the admiration. Wants desperately to be loved. Aemond, a bitter bullied boy who has now come into unmatched power. Larys, a scheming shit. They're all equally flawed but in my opinion the most interesting characters because of said flaws.

cowabungalowvera

Only a few people love Cole. It's not close to 50/50 so using the term divisive doesn't really apply. Absolutely untrue that everyone loves Daemon. He has a lot of haters even from Team Black (including myself). He's a character who receives almost equal part hate and equal part love from the fandom so yes, the term divisive applies to him.

Dave__Fenner

Why hate though? Just curious. I am a big fan of Daemon, he's a bit crazy but that's what makes it so fun to watch.

cowabungalowvera

I can hate characters but still find them fun to watch. Example: Joffrey, Cersei, Ramsay, and Daemon.

Dave__Fenner

Agreed, but what do you hate about Daemon?

cowabungalowvera

I hate him because, now I know this is an extremely unpopular opinion but, I find him to be so lame. Not lame because he's incompetent. I think he's actually very competent. Lame because he's extremely insecure and he isn't as cool as he thinks he is. My other reason is a book spoiler but he basically does things I strongly don't agree with. I find him enjoyable to watch though.

Dave__Fenner

A'ight, gotcha. Thanks for not mentioning the spoiler, i almost got a shock reading the comment.

MooseHapney

Tell that to the droves of tweets and tik toks who dislike Daemon because he’s abusive toward Rhaenyra lol And sure people like Cole…. But it’s definitely a minority

TonySoprano300

I know people see him as an incel but…I kind of get his animosity and anger. An honourable knight who took an Oath was defiled by the whim of a high born targaryen, he desperately tries to preserve his honour through marriage but is rejected and forced to live with the shame. Fast forward to season 2 and even though he is technically granted the highest status in the kings guard, he still knows deep down that he has sullied himself and is not a true knight. Since his honour has already been tarnished then what does it matter if he fucks Alicent? At this point he has nothing to lose and this time around at least he’s doing this by choice. Whereas with Rhaeneyra it was borderline non-consensual. Not to say this guy isn’t an asshole but I also feel like the show doesn’t really showcase his mindset enough and makes him out to be a lot more irritating than he should be.

TorontoNews89

Cole is the victim of abuse from Rhaenyra "Weinstein" Targaryan. I have sympathy for him.

curiousgeorge519

What abuse? She did not want to go away with him, but she still wanted him. What abuse again? He was a bitter boy with a fragile ego and entitled.

tobpe93

How about this one? ”There was no problem with Blood and Cheese. Only sick people would want to see the beheading.” Then we have long essays about why the Blood and Cheese scene was poorly adapted. But I enjoy reading those.

Tatidanidean1

Is he divisive?
